| title | Time for a Change: Ecuador's Sucre, Sea Lions and Crypterium |
| body | Hello Steemit, It has been a while. For my first post in over a year I wanted to talk to the community about the real life uses for crypto, especially in the high inflation areas of South America. For several years, I have have been touting the power of DLT and it's ability to alter the way we pay, but I hadn't seen the first hand impact it could have. Until I took a vacation with my family to the beautiful country of Ecuador. The Teleférico in Quito A Little Background on Ecuador: Ecuador's fiat currency (the Sucre) failed in the late 90's due to incredibly high inflation rates and poor monetary policy by the central bank. In order to save their struggling economy, Ecuador decided to forgo their local fiat in lieu of the US dollar, and they have been using USD since. All stores and kiosks in Ecuador and the Galapagos used USD cash as their main transaction means. While some of the more "westernized" locations, such as the Hyatt we stayed at one day, took credit cards, the fee for merchants is ridiculous. I interviewed several of the store owners while visiting and found the average fee charged to merchants to be betweent 14-22%. Additionally, it is a very difficult and arduous process to bring money into the country (from foreign sales, money transfer, etc.). One of our local guides had a beautiful trail book he had written but was struggling with bringing in cash from online sales as the banks would take a large cut, undermining his profitability. Even then, traditional banking that we take for granted in the US and EU, is not available to everyone in Ecuador. There are higher minimum balance requirements as well as other restrictions making it difficult for the average citizen to easily access banking services. I was born and raised in the US and even I am wary of the purchasing power of the dollar. Especially in such a, lets just say, interesting, political climate. Imagine being from another country that uses the US currency and has to worry about volatility caused by a foreign government's trade war thousands of miles away. These people have no control, no vote over the monetary policy in the US, and are subject to the consequences of any US actions, whether good or bad. Even the Galapagos Giant Tortoises Know Something is Wrong The value of using a decentralized, autonomous currency in Ecuador and other countries lacking a strong local fiat is unmeasurable. While Bitcoin or Ethereum would be an excellent solution, unfortunately in 2018 the crypto-to-fiat infrastructure just isn't there. Buying crypto has become exponentially easier in the last 12 months, but exchanging back to fiat is still much more difficult and costly then it should be. That is where I discovered a project called Crypterium. Feel free to check out their whitepaper but TL;DR Crypterium is a system allowing people to spend any crypto in stores and the merchant receives their fiat of choice. Crypterium and projects like it would be an AMAZING addition to the economy of countries like Ecuador, Argentina and Venezuela. Vendors would save a ton of money from the CC companies, paying a .5% settling fee instead of 20+% and cryptocurrency would be better to hedge against political and trade war related volatility. The US dollar has been global trade currency for many years, will that ever change? Do you think it will ever be replaced by BTC or another crypto? Please comment below and let me know what you think. And as always, thanks for reading. Best, Spins Playing with the Sea Lions |

| title | Boycotting Facebook |
| body | It is one thing to have a data breach, it happens, but not letting users know that their data is compromised is next to criminal. I would like to let everyone know that I will be suspending my facebook account for the next 6 months in order to boycott Facebook's blatant disregard for data safety measures. I will be available on Linkedin and Steemit, two companies that have shown they can prioritize user's safety over making a quick buck. I don't just want a simple "sorry" from Zuckerberg. If Facebook is unable to protect its users from fake news and illegal data gathering, then it might just be time to move on. https://theintercept.com/2017/03/30/facebook-failed-to-protect-30-million-users-from-having-their-data-harvested-by-trump-campaign-affiliate/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/03/22/mark-zuckerberg-facebook-ceo-apology-what-he-said-on-the-data-breach.html https://www.linkedin.com/in/cryptolad https://steemit.com/@spins |

| body | Hey folks, It's been a while, but I'm back. This time with some friends. I will have them post their own welcome-to-Steemit posts later but lets just say that we plan on being way more active in the Steemit community from here on out. My friend Austin is a whiz with tradition equity management and will be helping me with technical analyses while I try to point out the bigger market picture. Austin: On Jan 22nd of this year, you can see that Vechain went parabolic to hit an all time high of $9.45. This concluded an unprecedented run since the release of its ICO in August 2017. The run to $9.45 started around $0.30 in early December which represents a 3,050% increase in just over two months. At the peek, volume was nearly 400 million in a single trading day. However, after the coin hit $9.45, volume began to drop significantly in the coming days. Momentum began to fade as overbought levels were hit and sustained. On February 6th, the coin hit its bottom and reached a low of $2.98 with volume around 110 million. 110 million in volume at this times represents about a 20% increase compared to the average volume in the 10 previous trading days. This signals that oversold levels had been reached, and we received a bounce off the short term bottom. The bounce on that day was substantial enough to last until February 22nd when $7.07 was reached. Volume was close to 200 million which was the highest single day volume since January. Again, the coin sees overbought levels, and experiences a sell-off. With the current price being around $3.70, it is time to watch prices and volume closely. It remains to be seen if volume over the next 14 trading days can be sustained. If you’re a believer in the coin, it is a great time to invest. A solid entry point would be around $3.52. At this price the downside risk is around 12% depending upon your stop loss. Anything under 3$ and I would expect the coin to make new lows (and who knows how low they could be). Anything above that, and the ensuing bounce could represent another 150+% increase relative to the coins current cap in comparable project (Volume is represented within a 24 hour window). Jacob: With an attractive list of growing partnerships, Vechain has recent rebranded to VeThor, with the VEN symbol being replaced by VET. It it an interesting project, utilizing a PoS method to secure their unique blockchain which focuses on the safe storage of information through Dapps in a wide variety of industries. The blockchain is powered by Thor Power, which will be referred to as TP for concision. TP provides the "gas" that powers the network similar to the NEO/GAS relationship. While I won't delve into the VeThor project in great detail here, on March 6th the company announced an addition to their planned node requirements. The Vechain foundation has pledged an addition 50 million VET from the (%) reserved to help incentive early network supporters. This is great news for people looking to run a node. The X node status which must be locked in by March 20th, will make staking VeThor significantly more profitable for token holders. It can only be granted by holding a minimum of 6,000 Vethor in an ECR20 compatible wallet (MEW, Geth/Parity, etc.) and users are able to upgrade to greater nodes with higher returns. I will post a follow up article later on the profitability of a VeThor node. This will help "lock up" 50 million additional VeThor which will greatly reduce the circulating supply and help pressure further appreciation in the future. I will post more late on the expected profitability of an X node later in the week when the screen shot has been taken but for now, it is looking like an attractive entry price for a potentially profitable endeavor. Thanks, to coinmarketcap.com for the lovely graphs and as always DYOR Sincerely, Cryptolads Note: This does not constitute as as investment advice. Always do your own research. Our team currently owns/plan to own VeTHor/TP. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. |

I will have them post their own welcome-to-Steemit posts later but lets just say that we plan on being way more active in the Steemit community from here on out. My friend Austin is a whiz with tradition equity management and will be helping me with technical analyses while I try to point out the bigger market picture.\n\nAustin:\nOn Jan 22nd of this year, you can see that Vechain went parabolic to hit an all time high of $9.45.
