| title | Magnetars are the most dangerous objects in space, the diameter of which does not exceed 30 kilometers |
| body | Hello everybody! In the usual human understanding, the larger the object, the more massive it is. In the case of Magnetars, or Magnetars, everything is exactly the opposite. Magnetars (Let's call it as usual, from the word "magnet") are one of the rarest classes of neutron stars. What is so dangerous and mysterious about them? Let's find out with Pertichor V! A powerful flash - the one that helped open Magnitara The existence of such objects was assumed back in 1992, but in 1998, real evidence of the existence of objects, later called Magnitars, was obtained. This was facilitated by the outbreak, the observation of which showed the presence of a powerful burst of X-ray and gamma radiation. It came from a source in the constellation Eagle - SGR 1900 + 14 - the very first Magnitara discovered in history. Magnetar SGR 1900 + 14 - Image taken by the Spitzer telescope Magnetars - well, very strange neutron stars I would like to remind you that according to scientific observations, the average life cycle of stars lasts from 10 million to 10 billion years (Source: infoanic) Magnetars live on the strength of 1 million years. What was said in the title of the article: the mass of Magnetars often exceeds that of the Sun, but the size does not. Not a word at all - magnetars are a maximum of 30 kilometers in diameter. Let me remind you that the average person will walk this distance in 2-2.5 hours. Not on a magnet, of course - it won't be able to move there. Something surprising: a small handful of Magnetara will weigh 100 million tons. (Source - wikidata) Why are Magnetars so dangerous? Magnetars are called Neutron stars, which have an extremely powerful magnetic field, along with which Magnetar has one more, the same destructive feature: gamma and X-rays emanating from it during flares. Fun fact: Magnetars have the strongest magnetic field in the universe. So, the flares of Magnetar last only some 0.001-0.01 seconds, and energy for such a negligible period of time is generated in the same amount that our Sun produces for a whole year. Why are Magnetars so little studied? The answer is simple - there are no such objects near the solar system. It is for the better - life in such conditions would not have been able to exist - would have been completely destroyed by the very first such outbreak. Where are Magnitars located? How did they come about? The closest to us Magnetar is at a distance of 9000 light years - it would be much closer - the Earth in "our understanding" would no longer exist. Thus, such objects literally sterilize the vast space around them - not only killing all life on nearby planets with their radiation, but also destroying the ozone layers on more distant objects, dooming their possible inhabitants to irreversible death. Currently, there are approximately 35 magnetars in the visible universe by scientists. It was also found that Magnetars are objects that are too compressed, as mentioned earlier - a handful of their substance will weigh 100 million tons. It is assumed that these objects are born as a result of anomalies when a neutron star "appears" - due to its speed, for example. Yes ... I wonder why such "monsters" were "created"? What do you think - can they be of any practical benefit for space? Or are they just anomalies, errors that shouldn't exist at all; and their appearance - an accident? |

Thus, such objects literally sterilize the vast space around them - not only killing all life on nearby planets with their radiation, but also destroying the ozone layers on more distant objects, dooming their possible inhabitants to irreversible death.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCurrently, there are approximately 35 magnetars in the visible universe by scientists. It was also found that Magnetars are objects that are too compressed, as mentioned earlier - a handful of their substance will weigh 100 million tons. It is assumed that these objects are born as a result of anomalies when a neutron star \"appears\" - due to its speed, for example.\n\nYes ... I wonder why such \"monsters\" were \"created\"? What do you think - can they be of any practical benefit for space? Or are they just anomalies, errors that shouldn't exist at all; and their appearance - an accident?",

| title | Did you hear the shock? Plants can speak ?! |
| body | Hello everybody! Scientists are increasingly making discoveries about the complexity of plants and their amazing abilities. It is possible that plants can actually sense and respond to vibration in sound waves. In a 2017 study, Australian scientists proved that greens “hear” the sounds of water vibrating in their roots, making them drawn to moisture. Earlier in 2012, under the command of Monica Galliano, the same group of researchers announced that they heard clicking sounds from plant roots. The scientists used a laser vibrometer that was aimed at the roots. They were immersed in water and completely silenced to make sure that the sound was coming from there. Galliano later admitted that although the clicks can come from the roots, it is not known whether they perform any kind of communication function. However, the researcher reported that she once even heard the real speech of plants using laboratory instruments, but this experience is "outside the strictly scientific field." And while it is too early to ask linguists to compile a plant-Russian dictionary, Israeli scientists have proven that greens are capable of reacting differently to sounds. For example, flowers increased the amount of sugar in their nectar when they heard the hum of a bee. They did this as a reward, the researchers say, for the insects pollinating them. On other insects, the plants seem to be offended. They did not show the same activity, because other insects can simply take the nectar with no benefit. Acute hearing appears to enable plants to prepare for crawling attacks. When greens hear the sound of chewing leaves (not their own, they feel their own), they begin to produce more chemicals to scare off hungry caterpillars with a nasty taste. Studies like these have led people to wonder if they can influence plants with specially selected sounds. Qingdao Agricultural Engineering Research Center in China has developed a special device for transmitting waves to seedlings. The creators claim that the device reduced the need for fertilizers and increased the amount of the crop. David Robinson of the University of Heidelberg in Germany criticizes claims that plants can consciously listen and respond in a special way. Plants do not have neurons that would transmit information through electrical signals, and in general, greens lack thinking machines. However, Brazilian scientists recently discovered that plants have a similar set of chemical and hormonal signals to neurons, which are transmitted through the sap. Thanks to this, for example, the tomatoes informed the whole bush about the beginning of the attack of the caterpillars. Yet plants cannot train themselves, it seems that all reactions are formed in the process of evolution. One researcher tried to reproduce the work of Galliano and listen to the "conversation" of the roots, but he failed. Robinson does not discount the possibility that plants are smarter than they seem, but believes that we should study their abilities, abstracting from the communication systems of humans and animals. “I think a lot of people are trying to humanize plants to be more like us,” he says. Tony Trevavas, professor emeritus at the University of Edinburgh, says plants can be broadly considered smart because they clearly respond to stimuli, increasing their chances of survival. |

| title | Chinese Teacher Becomes Pornhub Star Giving Math Lectures |
| body | Hi! A Chinese math teacher has come up with an unusual way to increase interest in his lectures. A Taiwanese man has posted instructional videos on the adult site Pornhub. Online or offline Students have a choice The man created a profile on behalf of the porn actor. In the questionnaire, he indicated his height and weight, noted his sexual preferences. Then he uploaded 200 videos to Pornhub. There is nothing forbidden in lectures. The mathematician just stands in front of the blackboard and explains the mathematical analysis in Chinese. The video has been watched over 1.3 million times. In the comments to the training videos, users write that although they do not understand anything, they watch these videos in order to distract themselves from the main content of the site. |

| title | Hot planet Venus. Amazing facts |
| body | Hello everybody! Venus is the second farthest from the Sun and the sixth largest planet in the solar system, along with Mercury, Earth and Mars, belonging to the family of terrestrial planets. Named after the ancient Roman goddess of love Venus. Venus is the first planet that scientists have discovered. Thanks to the Venera-8 space station, which was the first to land on the Venusian surface, unique images were obtained. And Venus-17 recorded sounds and panoramic color photographs. All this helped scientists to learn much more about Venus. What is it, the hottest planet in the solar system? Twin planet Previously, Venus was considered the twin of the Earth. They are approximately the same in size, the difference in diameter is only 650 km in favor of the latter. And the mass of Venus is 81% of the mass of the Earth. The force of gravity is also close: 1 Earth's kilogram is equal to about 850 grams. Life is not possible on the surface of the fiery planet, but at an altitude of 60 km the atmospheric conditions are close to those on Earth. The only difference is the lack of oxygen. Venus also has an ozone layer, it is located at an altitude of 100 km from the surface, at the ground at 15-20 km. No satellites Venus does not have a single satellite. Even Pluto, which has ceased to be considered a planet due to its small size, has one. Perhaps, Venus had them earlier, but either the satellites moved away, or crashed on its surface. The hottest planet The atmosphere of Venus is composed of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, which creates a greenhouse effect on the surface. The temperature on the planet reaches 470 degrees and lasts all year. Venus does not have a change of seasons, it is always hot there. Not like everyone else Unlike other planets, Venus rotates clockwise around its axis, and very slowly. 1 Venus day corresponds to 243 Earth days. But it goes around the Sun in 224 days. Closest to Earth The distance between Venus and Earth is the shortest compared to other planets. It is 38 million kilometers, while the Earth is separated from Mars by 56 million kilometers. The longest distance with Venus is 261 million km. The brightest For earthlings, Venus is second only to the Sun and the Moon in brightness. It can be seen from the earth's surface both at night and during the day. It is visible to the naked eye. She is even able to create a shadow in the absence of the moon. Not fit for life Venus has the most unfavorable atmosphere for life. The pressure on the hot planet is 92 times that of the Earth. It acts approximately as if a person were placed in the ocean at a depth of 1 km. Due to the high pressure, the gas is pressed into the surface of Venus, turning into a supercritical liquid, which in its properties does not correspond to either gas or liquid. A snapshot of the surface of Venus The clouds that often appear in the sky are composed of sulfur dioxide and droplets of sulfuric acid. By the way, raindrops do not fall on the surface, because evaporate before flying. The clouds are very thick, so they hardly let in sunlight, and also prevent the surface from radiating from space. Landing an interplanetary station in such conditions is quite difficult, but possible. True, it will not work for long, the maximum recorded time of stay on Venus is 127 minutes. No craters There are no craters on Venus. There is an assumption, this is due to the fact that they are filled with volcanic lava, which covers 90% of Venus. The surface of the planet is quite young, according to scientists, it is about 500 million years old. Despite the fact that the surface of Venus is completely unsuitable for life, scientists thought about sending colonists to it. True, it would have to stop at an altitude of about 52 km, where the temperature would be about 30 degrees, and the atmosphere is still capable of protecting from radiation. The colonists would live in balls filled with a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. And they would be protected from sulfuric acid by Teflon, from which the top layer of balls would be made. |

| title | Wow!!! What happens if a small meteorite hits the atmosphere? |
| body | Hello everybody! I want to say right away that real asteroids do not have such high speeds and natural mechanisms are unknown to science that can accelerate an asteroid even up to 10% of the speed of light. Velocities comparable to the speed of light in space can acquire only individual particles. A collision of an asteroid with the Earth's atmosphere at a near-light speed will be almost identical to an impact on the planet's surface. The outcome of such a collision will depend on the size, shape and composition of the asteroid, as well as on the angle at which it enters the atmosphere. If the impact is tangential and the asteroid only hits the upper layers of the atmosphere, then we will not even notice it, the trail from such a collision will be so weak and disappear so quickly that it can only be noticed with the help of special equipment. The reason for this is that the dimensions of the asteroid indicated in the question are too small, if it were the size of a soccer ball, the trail would be visible to the naked eye. But if such a small asteroid enters the dense layers of the atmosphere, into the stratosphere, or even more so into the troposphere, it will completely burn up there. The speed of combustion and the height to which the asteroid has time to fly depends on its shape, size and angle of incidence, but in any case, a huge amount of energy will be released during this combustion. To make the calculations, I took an asteroid's mass of 50 grams and used the kinetic energy formula, taking into account relativistic effects. As a result, it turned out that with the complete combustion of the asteroid in the atmosphere, an energy equivalent to the explosion of a 100-megaton nuclear bomb would be released. For comparison: a bomb with a capacity of 18 kilotons was dropped on Hiroshima, that is, 5555 times less; and the most powerful hydrogen bomb had the equivalent of only 58 megatons. The energy released during the combustion of the asteroid will not be concentrated in one point, as in the explosion of a bomb. Depending on the angle of incidence and how deeply the asteroid penetrates into the atmosphere, it will be smeared over a huge space and, with luck, and the asteroid burns high in the stratosphere, damage to the planet's surface will be limited to knocked out windows in several countries. . At the same time, regardless of the scenario, the explosion will be clean, that is, there will be no radioactive fallout and the damaged areas will be suitable for life. |

| body | Hello everybody! More and more news has been coming in over the past year about new records of plasma confinement in tokamaks, but the tokamak is not the only thermonuclear reactor with which one can try to do this. A stellarator (from Latin stella - a star) is fundamentally different from a tokamak in that the magnetic field for plasma isolation from the inner walls of the toroidal chamber is completely created by external coils, which, among other things, allows it to be used in a continuous mode. "Regular" stellarator. Such a magnetic trap for confining high-temperature plasma was invented by physicist L. Spitzer back in 1950, and the first sample, as part of the secret Matterhorn project, was built the following year. Why few people know about these reactors? The fact is that, with all the positive aspects, the design of the stellarator is extremely complex, which is why their main problem is high heat losses. Differences between a tokamak (left) and a "regular" stellarator (right). © Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft This heat loss is the result of a process called neoclassical transport, in which colliding ions in a fusion reactor cause the plasma to diffuse outward. Its effect in stellarators is greater than in tokamaks. Real progress in the development of these reactors came only at the beginning of the 21st century - with the development of computer systems for engineering design and topological optimization methods using artificial intelligence. But until now there has been no practical implementation of these technologies. Wendelstein 7-X. In the newest configuration of the W7-X stellarator, developed in Germany, the magnetic field is created exclusively by one winding (instead of two, as in previous versions), consisting of modular three-dimensional toroidal coils, the complex curved shape of which was calculated using the aforementioned computer systems. Optimized with the help of a special program, the W7-X stellarator was able to reach temperatures of almost 30 million ° C, which is twice the temperature in the sun's core. Wendelstein 7-X. Credit: Bernhard Ludewig / Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics. Yes, this is just another step towards the implementation of thermonuclear fusion technology, but a rather serious step. Given that various technologies are currently being developed, the implementation of one of them seems only a matter of time. Well, the W7-X stellarator is currently undergoing modernization and will resume operation in 2022. |
