Originally this was an Alpereum/qtminer guide but I have updated it. Alpereum has been experiencing some problems recently and qtminer is outdated. They both still function and are simple to use but will likely not yield the best results. [Nanopool](https://eth.nanopool.org/), [Claymore miner](https://eth.nanopool.org/help), and genoli's are all good options. I have updated this guide for Nanopool and Genoli's miner. I'll try to make a Claymore one at some point but no promises because I don't use it so I don't understand its problems. I don't like to recommend things I don't use.\nHowever [/u/RegisteredFlexOffndr's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/comments/6hkfp0/quick_and_dirty_ethereum_pool_mining_setup/?st=J3ZFLACQ&sh=99ab3bd8) might work for your Claymore needs.\n\nHey, ~~I'm pretty new to the~~ mining community  I wanted to ~~make a~~ update my quick how-to for windows because I couldn't find one that was super simple and straightforward when I set it up.\n(Note: this is brainless because you're using the exact same process I did. Watch the video, play around with it, you'll feel more comfortable once you know the parts and pieces.\nAfter the blockchain downloads(this takes a while), find your wallet address, you'll need it shortly.\n\n\n\n**Step 2**: Get your [mining software](https://eth.nanopool.org/help). I chose Genoli's Ethminer OpenCL but there are several included in the link. For this tutorial though, you should use Genoli's. Toss it in the folder with your wallet. \n\n\n**Step 3**: Choose your [mining pool](https://eth.nanopool.org/). I chose Nanopool which I've linked. You can check your hash rate and balance by entering your wallet address in the search bar on that page.\n\n\n**Step 4**: To begin mining through [nanopool](https://eth.nanopool.org/) open notepad and copy the text below into it.\n\nsetx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0\n\nsetx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100\n\nsetx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1\n\nsetx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100\n\nsetx GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100\n\nethminer.exe --farm-recheck 200 -G -S eth-eu1.nanopool.org:9999 -O YOUR_ADDRESS.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL\n\nThe bottom line should be all on one line. Replace *YOUR_ADDRESS* with your wallet address. Then replace YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL with whatever name you want or your email if you want updates. If you're using your CPU replace \"-G\" with \"-C\" and if you're not in the EU replace \"eu1\" with \"us-west1\" for the western USA, \"us-east1\" for the eastern USA, or \"asia1\" for Asia.\n\nNow save the notepad file as  a \".bat\" file and place it in the same folder as the miner. I saved mine as \"start.bat\" because that's what it does. It starts the mining process. \nSo click on the .bat file to begin mining.\nMake a shortcut on your desktop for the .bat file for easy start up.\n\nIf you want to stop mining simply hit crtl-c while the command prompt window is up or the x. So if you want to use another mining software or pool, it won't be as helpful. Sorry about that.)\n\n**Step 1**: Download a wallet and place it in a new folder on your c: drive. You'll use this for all your ethereum programs. I chose [Mist](https://github.com/ethereum/mist/releases) but the sidebar of /r/ethtrader has a whole list to choose from. Also [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6lE0Ctaeqs) is a quick tutorial on how to download and use the wallet. Watch the video, you'll feel more comfortable once you know the parts and pieces.\nAfter the blockchain downloads, find your wallet address, you'll need it shortly.\n\n\n\n**Step 2**: Get your [mining software](https://ethermine.org/). I chose qtminer but there are several included in the link. For this tutorial though, you should use qtminer. Toss it in the folder with your wallet. \n\n\n**Step 3**: Choose your [mining pool](https://www.alpereum.ch/). I chose Alpereum which I've linked.\n\n\n**Step 4**: To begin mining through the [Alpereum pool](https://alpereum.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/208552585-Pool-Connection-Info) open notepad and copy the text below into it.\n\nqtminer.exe -s useast.alpereum.ch:3002 -u 0x2E005A8D25042055BhdD64Bh65c56fhE3C042e9.WorkerName -G\n\nReplace the long string of letters and numbers with your wallet address. Then replace WorkerName with whatever name you want. If you're using your CPU replace \"-G\" with \"-C\" and if you're not in the eastern USA replace \"usaeast\" with \"usawest\" for the western USA, \"pool\" for Europe, or \"asia\" for Asia.\n\nNow save the notepad file as  a \".bat\" file and place it in the same folder as the qtminer. I saved mine as \"start.bat\" because that's what it does. It starts the mining process. \nSo click on the .bat file to begin mining.\n\nAlpereum has some [help articles](https://alpereum.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/208552565-QtMiner-Setup-on-Windows) about mining and another to check your [worker status](https://alpereum.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/208188209-Where-do-I-view-my-balance-), hash rate, and balance.\n\nIf you want to stop mining simply hit crtl-c while the command prompt window is up. Adding **--opencl-platform 1** after -G should point it at the right one. Also disable the weaker gpu in the device manager.\n\nAlso as this question comes up a lot here I'll give you a little breakdown of the .bat file. Each pool and miner is going to be a little different but the basic idea is pretty much the same as far as I've seen. \n\n- First you have the .exe that is going to be run.
