| body | Late last year Josh Sprague, founder of Orange Mud reached out to me for a chat. Josh had heard about the Run For Resilience and wanted to know more about it. I was invited to be interviewed on the Orange Mud Adventure Channel Podcast and of course, I said yes! Josh and the Orange Mud endurance crew are on a quest to learn as much as possible about the people in front of, and behind the scenes of today's endurance sports. The Orange Mud Adventure Channel highlights the most amazing race directors, athletes, and influencers in the trail and ultra running, mountain biking, and endurance sports community. The Company's philosophy is to build very simple, make the most efficient, well-crafted gear; And I have to agree! During the Run for Resilience, I wore the Phone. Flask. Vest (PFV) for the entire 1500km and loved it! So here it is 👇👇👇 Episode 53: Wayne McMurtrie, running big distances and working through PTSD Today’s call is with Wayne McMurtrie. This dude is a friggin beast! A lot of us want to run a marathon, a 5k, 100 miler, or whatever, teeny distance that may be….at least compared to him. Wayne, however, has run some epic distances as a mechanism of coping with PTSD and inspiring others to find their own outlet. Check it out here 👇👇 ~ Wayne 🗻🐐🏃 https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/orange-mud-adventure-channel/e/58304709?refid=asa&fbclid=IwAR0n6ZQL3cj95wdMZixtQ3xKAaQZX2f22mG__B4VGfVAiIi-B_Ae2CK07xk&autoplay=true |

Flask. Vest (PFV) for the entire 1500km and loved it!\n\nSo here it is 👇👇👇\n\nEpisode 53: Wayne McMurtrie, running big distances and working through PTSD\n\nToday’s call is with Wayne McMurtrie. This dude is a friggin beast! A lot of us want to run a marathon, a 5k, 100 miler, or whatever, teeny distance that may be….at least compared to him.\n\nWayne, however, has run some epic distances as a mechanism of coping with PTSD and inspiring others to find their own outlet.\n\nCheck it out here 👇👇\n\n~ Wayne\n\n🗻🐐🏃\n\n\nhttps://www.stitcher.com/podcast/orange-mud-adventure-channel/e/58304709?refid=asa&fbclid=IwAR0n6ZQL3cj95wdMZixtQ3xKAaQZX2f22mG__B4VGfVAiIi-B_Ae2CK07xk&autoplay=true\n\n",

| body | Resilience involves a reintegration of self that includes a conscious effort to move forward in an insightful and positive manner using the lessons learnt from adverse experiences. Maintaining forward momentum is an important component of resilience. Some of the most resilient people struggle daily with severe post-traumatic stress disorder. These people choose to make an active decision not to succumb to its negative effects, because resilience – like sobriety – involves an active decision that must be frequently reconfirmed. ~ Wayne 🗻🐐🏃 |

| body | During the 2018 Run For Resilience we were supported by the amazing Team at Run Down Under. I approached Travis just a few short weeks prior to when R4R was due to begin to see if we could use the Run Down Under app to allow supporters to "virtually" run the route from Brisbane to Winton with me. Without hesitation, he jumped at the opportunity to be involved, the outcome was amazing! Please support the people who support R4R, if you aren't a member of Run Down Under then check out the video below and get involved with this epic community! ~ Wayne 🗻🐐🏃 An awesome morning today heading up to Eungella for a run with the The Lost Bunyips (Mackay Trail Runners). Checking out the damage done by the recent fires, spotting Platypus and Turtles, but do you want to know the best part? It was getting back into nature, seeing the regrowth that is pushing through already and seeing that given the right conditions, even the toughest, most catastrophic events can be overcome! ~ Wayne 🗻🐐🏃 As we Celebrate Christmas and head towards the end of 2018, I want to thank the many people who; over the last 12 months have played a huge part in my personal growth journey. I want to thank those who have contributed to the concept that inevitably became my vision and then a reality. . . Run For Resilience (R4R), A Veterans story of finding resilience on the journey home from war. . . 2018 was the year that I learnt a lot about myself. I learnt that I was vastly more capable than I could have ever imagined, I also learnt that there were others who also believed in purpose that was greater than the individual. . It all started with a chance meeting with Tom Hickman the founder of Bali Hope and competing in the Bali Hope Ultra in May. It was this event and seeing how so many people from around the world, from different walks of life, with different values, ideals, hopes and aspirations could all come together for a common cause; that was greater than the individual and even greater than the sum of the whole Team. . . Our purpose was the foundation on which a sacred bond would form. . . I knew that communities who committed themselves to long periods of adversity & austerity were special. From experiences during my years in the Australian Army, to working in remote PNG as a volunteer with YWAM Ships - Australia, into Endurance Running and beyond I knew it took a special type of person who would put the welfare of others above themselves but there was something I was missing! . It wasn't until the 1st of September, the first day of the brutal 1500km, 22 day Journey from the capital of QLD, Brisbane to Central West Town of Winton, Queensland that I realised what it was. . What I realised was that these communities were built on a foundation and created through a the bond that comes from having a shared purpose. It's a special bond that can only be formed by shared experiences, extended periods of adversity and austerity, where not only do you have to rely on another person, but they also rely on you. . Only when you are willing to sacrifice for others without thought or regard for your own safety or well being in order to see them not just survive, but to thrive; then and only then can you find fulfilment. . . I give thanks to the people who helped me to do more than just survive. Those who heled me transition into a period where I am able to Thrive! . . Firstly, to my entire family! Mum, Dad, My Brother Colin and most of all Fee, My Sister who was along for the entire crazy ride that actually began well before Campfire Sessions with Fee Mc. My Nieces Teal, Tia and Ari and Scotty my Brother from another Mother, thank you all for being the pillars of support that I could depend on when my resolve faltered; . My Military Family (there's a lot of you)! All those who are still serving and those who are no longer in uniform. It is with you whom I formed that sacred bond! . To the Southern Family, thank you for letting me take over your house (on more than one occasion). Paul Franklin, Mil and Leith who came out to middle of nowhere QLD to crew on R4R. . . To everyone else who served that has shared this Journey home, Thank you; . . To My Charity Partners Andy and Zoe Cullen and the amazing Team at Resurrected Surviving PTSD, thank you for seeing my vision (Michelle Edwards, thank you for the introduction x) and for being one of the driving force that helped to make it all happen; . The Oasis Townsville Crew, John Caligari, Anita Brooker, Floss Foster and all members of the Veteran Community in Townsville, Queensland, I am forever grateful for all your support; . Terry McNally of 3 Elements Coffee and Ex Defence integration team - EDit, your coffee, collaboration and ongoing support has been immeasurable; . Bradley and Brodie of Brad & Brodie Music, thank you for you amazing talents and ceaseless energy (and congratulations on expecting the birth of your first born xx); . Closer to home, I want to give a special thank you to Luke Taylor (Ex-President) of RSL Mackay Sub Branch Inc and every member of the RSL Queensland, those sub-branch members who welcomed us into their homes and their lives you were all an integral part of our journey home; . Tony Ferris (President of RSL Q) and everyone at Anzac House in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, your support helped pave the way for our connection with the sub-branches and facilitated the connection with media in regional areas along our route that allowed us to spread the word of the struggle that Veterans and Veterans Families face; . I want to thank those who have contributed to the concept that inevitably became my vision and then a reality. \n.\n.\nRun For Resilience (R4R), A Veterans story of finding resilience on the journey home from war. \n.\n.\n2018 was the year that I learnt a lot about myself. I learnt that I was vastly more capable than I could have ever imagined, I also learnt that there were others who also believed in purpose that was greater than the individual.\n.\nIt all started with a chance meeting with Tom Hickman the founder of Bali Hope and competing in the Bali Hope Ultra in May. It was this event and seeing how so many people from around the world, from different walks of life, with different values, ideals, hopes and aspirations could all come together for a common cause; that was greater than the individual and even greater than the sum of the whole Team. \n.\n.\nOur purpose was the foundation on which a sacred bond would form. \n.\n.\nI knew that communities who committed themselves to long periods of adversity & austerity were special. From experiences during my years in the Australian Army, to working in remote PNG as a volunteer with YWAM Ships - Australia, into Endurance Running and beyond I knew it took a special type of person who would put the welfare of others above themselves but there was something I was missing!\n.\nIt wasn't until the 1st of September, the first day of the brutal 1500km, 22 day Journey from the capital of QLD, Brisbane to Central West Town of Winton, Queensland that I realised what it was.\n.\nWhat I realised was that these communities were built on a foundation and created through a the bond that comes from having a shared purpose. It's a special bond that can only be formed by shared experiences, extended periods of adversity and austerity, where not only do you have to rely on another person, but they also rely on you. \n.\nOnly when you are willing to sacrifice for others without thought or regard for your own safety or well being in order to see them not just survive, but to thrive; then and only then can you find fulfilment. \n.\n.\nI give thanks to the people who helped me to do more than just survive. Those who heled me transition into a period where I am able to Thrive! \n.\n.\nFirstly, to my entire family! Mum, Dad, My Brother Colin and most of all Fee, My Sister who was along for the entire crazy ride that actually began well before Campfire Sessions with Fee Mc. My Nieces Teal, Tia and Ari and Scotty my Brother from another Mother, thank you all for being the pillars of support that I could depend on when my resolve faltered;\n.\nMy Military Family (there's a lot of you)! All those who are still serving and those who are no longer in uniform. It is with you whom I formed that sacred bond! \n.\nTo the Southern Family, thank you for letting me take over your house (on more than one occasion). Paul Franklin, Mil and Leith who came out to middle of nowhere QLD to crew on R4R. \n.\n.\nTo everyone else who served that has shared this Journey home, Thank you;\n.\n.\nTo My Charity Partners Andy and Zoe Cullen and the amazing Team at Resurrected Surviving PTSD, thank you for seeing my vision (Michelle Edwards, thank you for the introduction x) and for being one of the driving force that helped to make it all happen;\n.\nThe Oasis Townsville Crew, John Caligari, Anita Brooker, Floss Foster and all members of the Veteran Community in Townsville, Queensland, I am forever grateful for all your support;\n.\nTerry McNally of 3 Elements Coffee and Ex Defence integration team - EDit, your coffee, collaboration and ongoing support has been immeasurable;\n.\nBradley and Brodie of Brad & Brodie Music, thank you for you amazing talents and ceaseless energy (and congratulations on expecting the birth of your first born xx); \n.\nCloser to home, I want to give a special thank you to Luke Taylor (Ex-President) of RSL Mackay Sub Branch Inc and every member of the RSL Queensland, those sub-branch members who welcomed us into their homes and their lives you were all an integral part of our journey home;\n.\nTony Ferris (President of RSL Q) and everyone at Anzac House in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, your support helped pave the way for our connection with the sub-branches and facilitated the connection with media in regional areas along our route that allowed us to spread the word of the struggle that Veterans and Veterans Families face;\n.\nTo my friends, mentors and coaches; Rhonda & Brian Swan, Calvin Coyles & The YWS Team, Charley Valher and the members of The Association your advice on this journey has been invaluable;\n.\nBaron Walton, the amazing man behind the lense who curated the R4R video you are a master videographer, a special thankyou for capturing the heart and soul of my message! \n.\nKim Barrett, Kristy Smith and Nita Manuphan from the Team at Your Social Voice and Chris Benetti from the The Funnel Division, you are all legends!\n.\nI know there will be many who I have missed by name but know that you are all in my heart for being part of this epic Journey Home from War. \n.\nTo every one of the sponsors, supporters, friends and followers of the Run for Resilience, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Prosperous New Year!\n.\nNJF Wellness Mackay & Whitsundays Orange Mud Orange Mud Australia Tailwind Nutrition Australia Hillbilly Endurance Run Down Under On The Run Fred Smith\n.\n.\nIn 2019 Run For Resilience will be asking for your support again. | body | Look past people's differences and be open to hearing their stories 👉 you might be surprised at what you can learn from a conversation.... . Over the last few days as we have prepared for the inaugural Bali Hope SwimRun I have had the pleasure of meeting people who definitely don't "swim" in my usual pool! . In fact, I don't really swim 🏊, It's not that I can't, it's just that I've never seen how it could be a fun sport... . Until I was introduced to the seemingly harmless combination of trail running and swimming, I became intrigued 🤔 . SwimRun is huge in Europe, it's growing world wide and it's an interesting race format. . Tomorrow, Saturday the 8th of December I will SwimRun around Nusa Lembongan and Cennigan Islands, the best part is I won't be alone 😱 . Teathered to a beautiful stranger by a 3 metre length of bungee cord and competing against teams from across the globe, we will swim and we will run! . I'm joined by Bali Hope Ultra Veterans Kyron, & Josh and a host of "SwimRun" Hero's who are battling the Plastic Tide to create a better world. . ~ Wayne . 🗻🐐🏃 A short video from the Bali Hope SwimRun . Thanks to the amazing media team! . ~ Wayne . 🗻🐐🏃 And December keeps getting better! 🥰👊🏃♂️🏝️ In 2019 Run For Resilience will be continuing the Journey 🏃 Watch this video 🎥 by the amazing Baron Walton that he produced for me 🤘🏽 It tells in part, my personal story of finding resilience on the journey home from war In 2019 we will be inviting Veterans, Defence Members and First Responders to join us 👉 either as a supporter, volunteer or participant Comment "RUN" in the video below and we'll keep you in the loop! ~ Wayne ⛰️🐐🏃 There are a few special people that come into our lives from time to time . Some of them is seems for only a short time; while others just never seem to leave..... . There are those who never seem to change and then there are the few who you can see transform right before your very eyes . In May this year, I had the pleasure to meet the most amazing, genuine and heart centered couple ever 🙏 . Lyndsay and Joseph 👉 I can't wait until May to see you both again 🎊🎉 . | body | A Swimrun is a multiple-stage competition which involves participants running and swimming over a cross-country race course or loop-course that involves at least 2 transitions between the swim and run stages of the race. Bali Hope Swim Run Calling all who have served, who are still serving, their families and military historians! . Run For Resilience will be running again in 2019 and I need to find routes within Australia that our Military forefathers travelled on their journey to war! . R4R 2018 was the reverse of the 1914 Troop Train route that took Troops from Central West Queensland to Brisbane and ultimately of to Theatres of war in Europe and beyond . In 2019 R4R will travel a similar such route and planning needs to begin ASAP . Please comment below, include links to websites or those who might know an epic journey that will connect our military history with contemporary veterans and promote collaboration, a sense of purpose and ignite passion among our Veteran Community! . Wayne . The IAU 24-hour World Championships have bee run and won in very trying conditions. The members of the Australian Ultra Runners' Association Team had some amazing results as detailed by Rob Donkersloot * it was 32, hot and humid and warm at night. Oppressive sums it up. * Matty Eckford had a massive dizzy spell and went head first into the railings with a sickening blow. They needed to pry his head out between the bars to release him. Matty insisted on keeping running, there was no talking him out of it (I tried) * Nikki Wynd collapsed in the evening and was non coherent. She had four bags of IV fluids. When the medics finally released her she refused to go back to the hotel, and remained with the team for the duration * Everyone was there to run for the team, and believe me they all gave it 200% and then some. It was incredible to see runners push It as far as they possibly could, they all did without exception. Amazing to witness such an incredible team spirit in what is often such an individual sport. Ewan Horsburgh 235.7 Mick Thwaites 231.3 Stephen Redfern 208.2 John Yoon 205.9 Matthew Eckford 184.8 Tia Jones 218.1 Donna Urquhart 194.5 Sharon Scholz 186.9 Nikki Wynd 143.8 Tia won the silver medal in the individual competition after battling incredibly hard all day, the men’s and women’s teams both won the silver, beaten only by the powerhouse that is Japanese ultra running. A massive thank you to the crew who were there assisting their runners achieve their success, a huge effort. Rob, thanks for keeping us up to speed during the race! ~ Wayne Taken along the Run For Resilience 2018 route between Gympie and Maryborough as I took a rest under a tree I'm about to fly back to Bali . . Just last week, I was speaking with Bali Hope founder Tom Hickman at The Lawn Canggu a mere few hours before I was due to fly home to Mackay! . We discussed how this year's Bali Hope Ultra was the catalyst to my Run For Resilience journey and how he was once again inspiring me with the RunSwim! . Each event Tom organises has a deep meaning and purpose, bringing together individuals, creating community and allowing the athletes to make a positive, lasting impact on the communities in which they are privileged to visit . The Plastic Pollution Crisis that is facing humanity and the impact we are forcing on nature is reaching critical point . There isn't a coastline on earth that doesn't have trash washing up daily and one of the biggest contributors is, unfortunately Indonesia . We can put blame others, point fingers and shake our heads at how someone else "should" make a change, but making it someone else's fault doesn't change our moral and ethical responsibility, it doesn't change our imperative to act! . Each of us has the means to be the force of change . The Bali Hope SwimRun is bringing together those who are willing to step out of their comfort zone, to challenge themselves while participating in an adventure that will educate children and help establish sustainable change and protect our oceans . The plastic tide is one that can be turned . ~ Wayne . Bali bound for an 11th hour entry into the Bali Hope 2018 SwimRun . that's right, I'll be swimming in my runners and running in my swimmers . | body | MEET OUR NEWEST AMBASSADOR WAYNE McMURTRIE – ULTRA-RUNNER An ADF Veteran with 17 years service, Wayne is an accomplished Ultra-Marathoner, Entrepreneur and Advocate for Veterans Health. Having been diagnosed with PTSD in 2009 after multiple deployments on active service, Wayne initially coped well, throwing himself in work and hobbies and living an active life. In 2015 after forced redundancy he relapsed suffered a major breakdown becoming isolated and withdrawn and became progressively anti-social, taking impulsive actions and engaging in risky behaviours. It was during this time that Wayne began running as a coping mechanism and soon found the structure and routine of training gave him the purpose and drive that he had been unconsciously searching for. Ultra-Marathons became a way of life, the unique challenges each event presented was an opportunity to discover more about himself as he pushed his body and mind beyond breaking point. The community, passion and purpose served as a process for re-connection and integration with family and friends. In 2018 Wayne set off on a 1500km over 22 days, running from Brisbane to Winton to tell a Veterans story of finding resilience on the journey home from war, he successfully raised funds to support PTSD Resurrected in the important work we do as a charity. We welcome Wayne to the PTSD Resurrected family as an ambassador helping to raise awareness, hope and healing to individuals and families in need. Run For Resilience A great blog post from Luca Turrini about his 2018 Spartathalon . A great tale that focuses on life's internal struggle, the ones that come with running ultras and everyday life. . Let me know what you think :-) . Wayne . |

| body | There is a saying that goes "Where your focus goes, your energy flows". During the Run For Resilience I had plenty of time to think. Long hours spent on the road with long periods with my own thoughts I had a unique opportunity. I came notice that on the days where I struggled and felt that the day wasn't going the way I hoped, I would only look at the run negatively, small things would be magnified a thousand times and appear bigger than they really were . The way I perceived challenges created obstacles where in reality, there were non. . What I learnt during these tough times; . ✊ Every day should to be seen as an opportunity to attempt or achieve something, . ✊ The meaning and reason is always uniquely your own; . ✊ Get up everyday and commit to reaching your goal . This is a show of true strength of character, of your toughness, hardiness and adaptability, your buoyancy, flexibility and your ability to bounce back! . Each day is a step forward on the path of your own journey home from war as you once again find resilience. . It's may be hard to see past today, no matter how long the road seems, focus on each day being a little better than the day before and let your energy flow. . ~ Wayne . 🗻🐐🏃 . 📸 @fuzionshots A few weeks ago Brianna and I were invited to join the TUF Minds Life Rescue Crew aboard the sailing cat Alba Dash for a day tip out to Keswick Island . it was an absolute blast! Take a look and get involved :-) . ~ Wayne . 🗻🐐🏃 I was excited to receive the this months issue of the IML Membership Events & News Newsletter to see the Run For Resilience Story featured. . During the Run we stopped in for Breakfast with some of the Rockhampton Members of IML . Thank you Emmagen and Institute of Managers & Leaders for your support . Here is a copy of the newsletter article 👇 . Run For Resilience, a Veterans story of finding resilience on the journey home from war. . On the 22nd of September 2018, local Mackay member, Wayne McMurtrie completed what he would argue as being the most physically and mentally demanding endeavor that he’s ever attempted. . Starting on the first of September from Anzac Square in Brisbane with only 4 weeks planning and preparation, Wayne began a 1500km, 22-day journey home from war, running from the City of Brisbane to Central West QLD town of Winton to tell a Veterans story of finding resilience. . Like many Veterans; Wayne experienced feelings of isolation, the loss of identity and purpose in the process of transitioning from service back into civilian life. He found difficulty in disengaging from the structure of military culture, the pressure to be strong, the rigid, rational way of thinking and an inability to display emotions which created difficulty for himself and his family. . Run for Resilience is the story of his own journey home from war and how he found Hope, Healing and Purpose through the challenges and rewards of Endurance running, how he rediscovered a connection not only with himself, but a community that understood the importance of camaraderie and loyalty that was forged through enduring long periods of shared adversity. . Wayne believes that resilience involves a reintegration of self that includes a conscious effort to move forward in an insightful, integrated and positive manner as a result of lessons learned from such an adverse experience. . It is the idea of moving forward that is an important component of understanding resilience, of recognizing that some of the most resilient people may have had or still have very severe PTSD that they struggle with every day. These people choose to make an active decision not to succumb to its negative effects; because resilience, like sobriety involves an active decision, one that must be frequently reconfirmed. . ~ Wayne . 🗻🐐🏃 |

| body | Run /rʌn/ . noun: run; An opportunity or attempt to achieve something. . for . adv: for; Because of this; for this reason. . Resilience /rɪˈzɪlɪəns/ . noun: resilience; Strength of character, strength, toughness, hardiness; adaptability, buoyancy, flexibility, ability to bounce back In May this year I had the privilege of being part of the first Bali Hope Ultra, an 84km overnight Ultra-Marathon that saw us run from Lovina on the north of Bali, crossing through the island heart, navigating mountainous ranges to finish on a tranquil beach on the southern coast. . While taking part in this Adventure I meet a number of inspirational thought leaders, innovators, sportsmen and women, entrepreneurs and a fellow veteran who were all actively creating positive impacts all over the world and empowering entire communities! . After our week together we departed Bali with amazing memories, new connections and lifelong friendships that were forged through trials of hardship and camaraderie. It was this unique exposure to a shared adversity that created a common bond among our small band of Endurance Athletes that left me truly inspired and fulfilled. . I'd experienced similar transformations before during my time in the military in training and on deployment. I experienced first hand the same key operational aspects of the military culture; camaraderie, intensity, elitism, and distinctiveness replicated during other Ultra-Endurance events in which I participated and which, like the military were driven by the processes of training and a shared fate. . I was inspired not only by the level of dedication and sacrifice that the Athletes and Support staff displayed but to their single minded focus and drive to accomplish their goal of completing the Bali Hope Ultra and making a lasting impact on the Children of Bali. . During this journey, not one Participant failed to complete the grueling 84km course which was achieved only through a collaborative team effort. . For some, the Bali Hope Ultra was a baptism of fire, for others it reinforced the notion that there is comfort in being uncomfortable. Ultimately, it proved that there can only be progress if we are willing to focus on a goal and leverage the support of those who are on the same journey as we are and share the same values and principles as us. . ~ Wayne . It was after leaving the Bali Hope Ultra that I was left wondering just how I could continue this journey of growth, maintain the strength and support of the community and share with other veterans how they to could find Hope. Healing and Purpose in their own lives. . I understood that the military trained us to be resilient, we were instilled with shared values forged through trials of hardship and through rigid military culture we were given structure that was predictable, hierarchical and certain. . During the course of Military Service, from basic training on; Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen are exposed to various adverse conditions and experiences that promote cohesion as a unit, instil positive attitudes and builds confidence in Self, Comrades and the Command Structure. It is this supportive and cohesive unit structure that gives a sense of connection, belonging and purpose which ultimately provides the ability to improvise, adapt and overcome difficult situations. . Common purpose, unquestioned camaraderie and loyalty are the cornerstone of confidence and for Veterans, these are difficult qualities to find in others when no longer in uniform. . There is a common saying; "you are the sum of the 5 people who you associate with the most", and as Brooker T. Washington said "Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company"! . A question I'd ask, is what if this means that you have to take an active role and seek out people who meet this criteria? . I discovered through accident that the Ultra Running Community had the very values that I was looking for. . During a time when I found it difficult in dealing with myself, I believed that others shouldn't have to put up with me either, so I started running. . What I found was that the solitary nature or endurance running allowed me to process my thoughts and I would come back from a run feeling refreshed and renewed. . I eventually realised that there were others who sought the connection, camaraderie and loyalty that can only be forged through long periods of enduring shared adversity. . Even though endurance running is viewed as an individual sport each competitor is there for the same reason, there is a shared mission can only be achieved with the support of others and it can only be understood by someone who has been there. . ~ Wayne . |

| body | Hi Everyone, On behalf of the Team at Run for Resilience I would like to thank you for your support during the Inaugural Run for Resilience. To say that this was a massive undertaking is not paying full respect to the Challenge of bringing together all the components necessary to Run 1500km across Queensland. A few stats to ponder; On average I ran 68km each day.... that's more than 35 Marathons over the 22 days run duration, We covered a total 6949km in our Campervan, Were hosted by over 25 Ex-Service Organisations, Cadet Units and Community Groups, Engaged in over 693 conversations where we shared our story and mission along the route and handed out nearly 1500 flyers, 3 Cafe's sold coffee by the cup on our behalf and donated profits to our charity partner PTSD Resurrected, I was interviewed on Radio and TV via the phone and in-person on more than 15 occasions, featuring on Paul Murray Live on Sky News, WIN News, and ABC Radio just to name a few; On Social Media we had an organic post reach in excess of 46.8k, achieving organic post engagements of over 12.5k on Facebook alone! My mind struggles to imagine just how many people heard our message during not just the 22 days of the Run for Resilience but over the 5 weeks that we traveled across Queensland to make it all happen. None of this would have been possible without the kindness and generosity of not only each supporter but also every single person we met along the way. We were privileged to be invited into homes, given driveways to park on, hotel rooms to sleep in and camp sites on which to camp. Donors will begin receiving their rewards shortly and we will also release details about how to purchase your own R4R Merchandise including Shirts, Hats and Buffs as we finalise the designs and receive final quotes back from suppliers. Even through the run is over you can still contribute via run4resilience.org or make a donation directly to our Charity Partner PTSD Resurrected https://ptsdresurrected.org |

| body | New Blogpost: Second to last day. 7km so far this morning with only 73 or so left for the day! Thanks to everyone who has help R4R to get this far 🙏 See you all in Winton, Queensland on the 22nd at 1600 hrs 🕒 ~ Wayne Welcome to Longreach a town in Central West Queensland approximately 700 kilometres from the coast. The town is named after the "long reach" of the Thomson River on which it is situated. The town is on the Tropic of Capricorn. The main industries of the area are cattle, sheep, and, more recently, tourism. Longreach is also the home of the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, which was officially opened in 1988 by Queen Elizabeth II. The purpose of the centre is to showcase the history and the culture of life in rural Australia. Since its opening, over 1 million people have passed through its doors. Longreach was one of the founding centres for Qantas, the Australian domestic and international airline. One of the airline's original hangars remains in use at the Longreach Airport and is listed on the Australian National Heritage List. The town is now the home of the Qantas Founders Outback Museum, which includes amongst its displays a decommissioned Qantas Boeing 747-200 aircraft, registration VH-EBQ, "The City of Bunbury." and QANTAS's first jet aircraft VH-XBA (formerly VH-EBA), a Boeing 707, "The City of Canberra". Any day of the week in Longreach could involve an early morning stroll around some of the towns unique architecture, or garden walks (noting that all of the streets are named after birds), followed by a shop, or coffee and cake down Eagle St, then off to see one of the towns array of museums. A visit (and maybe a small donation) to the School of Distance Education or Australian Agricultural College, ending in a sunset river cruise or to witness one of the last true outback theatres. The choice is up to you! For the more 'action attraction' type, Longreach is also home to some of the bush's biggest and best Rodeo, Horse Racing and Fishing events. So if it's action and attraction you're looking for, all rolled into one...checkout Longreach! |
