      "title": "BEYOND THE SCARS",
      "body": "Hello steemians, I want to share a story with you titled BEYOND THE SCARS. \n\n**\"A surgery is possible to correct the inadequacies\" and this was the best News to my family and my sponsors. But to me? Well…**\n\nI had always lived with a disease that had no clear diagnosis. Everyone had tried a prescription and quite a number of tests to salvage the situation, but it was all to no avail. My family couldn't afford the luxurious hospital bills and we had to settle with the affordable health centers around us.\n\n\n![Screenshot_20220811-233933.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdkawRVk9pH5b52rmb6oqPYevDoL7LXZG4U4Uzd8Me9pL/Screenshot_20220811-233933.png)\n\n\nAt one point, one of the help from medics went south, and I developed another disease entirely. I blamed it on the Nation failed health sector. My village people were not exempt either as I gave them a fair share of the blame.\n\nLiving all my life like a statue that can only be moved around by being lifted, I faced the pain and shame of the long stares and pity party in the society.\n\nI wanted to be like my mates. I wanted to experience being a teenager in a grand style. Not only that, I wanted the coke figure some of my schoolmates were beginning to have, but my body said \"no\" and it locked me in from every possibility of moving around. Furthermore, I was enslaved in my body and it was obvious to everyone.\n\nIt was a scar that could not be hidden and I had prayed for the cup to pass me by, or a miracle, but it was far from reach and I had to hope from our little house that things would get better some day and like a miracle, it did after many years of waiting and getting worse by the years.\n\nI had decided to hide indoors and keep my plight away from the eyes of all. I was tired of the unending advice, spite and the conclusion from some mothers who felt I was possessed and I was the one inflicting a strange disease on myself. Likewise, I had resigned to life's brutal fate, but the miracle came indoors searching for me.\n\n\"There's a Surgeon in another State that I would love you to meet. He is a Specialist and I trust His judgement. I'll shoulder the bills and every other financial need involved.\" It was a mix of joy and uncertainty for me.\n\nThe possibilities of being mobile again gave me joy. Being able to help myself with some personal activities and ultimately, being beautiful again. I had attached my beauty to my frail health and I felt I could never be beautiful except I'm healthy.\n\nAlso, the diseases had eaten up everything about me. It looked too complicated and, moreover, it had been there in my body for a long time. I had my reservations as we journeyed to the place of my supposed breakthrough.\n\nAfter the test, we realized it could have been corrected at the initial stage, but at the moment, a little surgery could pave a way and it was the best test results ever to me.\n\nEverything was put in place and the surgery commenced, but on the operating table, I had a strange feeling that the Surgeon was taking a risk. Like other Doctors, he really didn't know what was wrong with me, but he decided to give it a try and anyway, the bills were already paid and you know what they say about money answering all things?\n\nI felt he wouldn't want to refund such a huge amount of money. Everything became blank until I eventually woke up to an oxygen tube fixed to my nostrils. I don't know how long it was since I passed out, but I felt again that the surgery wasn't successful.\n\nA few weeks later, the Surgeon worked his way through the cast and despite the pain which he felt I shouldn't have at that time, I screamed as the flesh beneath the cast was revealed and for a moment, I forgot about the pain and became worried about the massive stitches.\n\nI knew it would leave a huge scar when it eventually heals up and I really didn't want any of that. I had enough scars in my little time on earth that can last me till I'm old. My legs, my face, my back, my arms, everywhere had a scar, and now a massive scar on my hand. It just didn't sit well with me.\n\nMy whole World came crashing down and I could also see the fear in the Surgeon as he left another process to the Nurse on duty to handle. He wasn't pleased with himself for taking such a risk, but he tried to conceal it.\n\nMy ward mate noticed the changes in my mood. The ever smiling woman was not smiling, neither sad, but wore a straight face. My ward mate and her husband felt I should at least be grateful for the success of the surgery and if at all it wasn't 70% perfect, I should still maintain my joy, but that wasn't my problem.\n\nThe scar was and evidently, the supposed success marked the beginning of losing the use of my hand completely. The Surgeon said it would only be temporal, but he isn't sure either.\n\nAs I wept silently that cold night, I told God I really didn't want another scar. Not something this much. What would I do with a fixed hand that is immobile and filled with scars? Please, just take it away, and while I wept sour, \"what would you show them as evidence?\" asked a voice in my Spirit.\n\nI really wanted better evidence. A beautiful one at that and then again, the story of Jesus popped up. His disciple, Thomas, said He wasn't Jesus and until He dipped His hand in those scars, Thomas found it difficult to believe it was the same Jesus who died 3days before that was standing there right before him with other brethren.\n\nThere would be people who would doubt your success story. They will doubt the possibility of what God has made of your life, but the scars will speak of itself. It will testify to others that God is faithful and He still keeps His promises of making us beautiful despite the scars.\n\nLike Alessia Cara sang, \n*She don't see her perfect*\n*She don't understand she's worth it*\n*Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface…There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark*\n*You should know you're beautiful just the way you are*\n*And you don't have to change a thing*\n*The world could change its heart*\n*No scars to your beautiful*\n*We're stars and we're beautiful*\n\n**There are scars that shouldn't be hidden. It makes us beautiful. It tells our story. You might not be \"perfect\" like everyone else, but you are your kind of beautiful. Stop hiding your scars. Stop trying to change the situation. Go with the flow and let each passing day and experience be a ladder to growth to a better you.**\n\nLet beauty exhume from those places that you have felt so imperfect. This is possible when you don't judge yourself by what you see in others, what you hear others say or do. Be your kind of unique and recognize that there's surely scars that adds to your beauty. You can change narratives and change the World's perspective towards your situation.*\n\nAlways remember that there's no better you than you are, and you are a star. There's no scar in you, but a star shining bright in you, making you beautiful and lighting the path of others too. Let them see the evidence.\n\nThere's so much more to share, but I hope this little shines hope to your heart. There's a back story to the disease. I wore a brown gown which I thought didn’t suit my skin color and I plaited a hairstyle using thread.\n\nI had been looking at the picture with irritation for years until one day, I got hold of it and tore them into pieces. I doubt if my mother ever knew what happened to the picture till date.\n\nGrowing up as a black-skinned girl, I watched them give privileges to light-skinned girls, let me cite an example. During a Christmas carol in my primary school, my teacher picked a girl who had the same dark skin as mine and used her as the devil, while a girl with fairer skin was given the role of Jesus to play. This might be done well-intentioned, I mean, a lot of people grew up believing Jesus was light-skinned while the devil was black, so my teacher might have done that with the same assumption in mind but it didn’t change the reality that she chose a dark-skinned child to play the role of the devil.\n\nEven as a child, I thought black was dirty and I didn’t see the beauty in being a dark-skinned girl. I grew up getting used to the name “Blackie”, “ “Omo Dudu”(A black Child in Yoruba), “ Black and Shine” e.t.c, sometimes it sounded like an appraisal, sometimes an insult. Most times I wished I was just addressed as a normal person and not given a tag because of my skin color. I gradually became insecure because of my skin color and it affected me in several ways.\n\nMy insecurities got worse when I was in University, I began comparing my skin tone with others, wishing my skin color was a little lighter and blaming my skin color for the way I am being treated. The thing is, I had people who complimented me but I never accepted the compliments rather I mistook them for flattery. I never really accepted that I was beautiful enough to be complimented.\n\nI would shy away from pictures and group photographs. I would intentionally fail to answer questions during class and sometimes hide from others. The days I agree to take pictures, I would make sure it was taken with a phone that has a good camera quality, and ill check out for the sun before taking the pictures, I thought the sun made me shine brighter and the pictures would come out nicer but what I didn’t know was that I didn’t need the sun to make me shine, I could shine as bright as I wanted only if I wore my confidence like a cloak.\nI let my insecurity get the better of me and it weighed me down a lot.\n\nAs time went by, I gradually started to accept my color, started reading articles on how to maintain dark skin, began to focus more on people with dark skin and I began embracing myself. That was the most beautiful step I took. I started taking more pictures, and group photographs and started mingling with some of my coursemates.\n\nAlong the line, phrases like “You need to see yourself before others can see you”, and “The way you carry yourself is the way others will carry you” started to make sense to me.\n\nWhen I look into the mirror I no longer see just a black girl, I see a very pretty girl with dripping melanin, I see a girl whose beauty shone like a daffodil blooming under the rays of the sun. I see ME.\n\nI realize that the moment we start accepting ourselves for who we are, what we are, and what we stand for, that changes everything around us including the way people see and relate to us. Everything becomes different once we learn to accept who we are, it doesn’t matter if you’re dark, light, short, tall, fat, or skinny, once you become confident in yourself, nothing or nobody will be able to stop or belittle you. People will learn to accept and adjust themselves to suit YOU.\n\n**Now as I look at myself in the mirror, I remember what Upile once said: “ I am dripping melanin and honey. I am black without apology”.**\n\nNobody is ever going to take that away from me again, nobody is ever going to make me feel less of myself again.\n\n##### Story by Alicia D., shared by @sirpee6.",

      "body": "Moimoi is a Nigerian food made from beans. The beans is peeled through the addition of water. This enables the outer covering to be soft and removed. Water is then added to the peeled beans in excess to soften its tissues, this process shouldn't take more than ten minutes. Fresh pepper is added to the peeled beans before being grinded using the grinding machine. \n\nThe mixture is supplemented by adding salt, vegetable oil, prawn and little amount of water. Place a pot containing a cup of water on fire. Get a thick transparent nylon to dish your mixture for cooking. As you pour it in the nylon, add a portion of boiled egg before tighten it. That's one way of finding fulfillment in life. \n\nThe chain of goodness event initiated by @steemwomensclub has helped more people in our community. This is due to the serious hand being used to handle this because being in need is a general thing. These people work selflessly to make sure children becomes successful. This aim is not easy to achieve since they depend mostly on what people give to them. This and some other reasons is why i gave it a thought to pay a visit to the orphanage home for **my second chain of goodness  event**. We bought some items as shown in the picture above; \n* Spaghetti\n* Tea\n* Milk\n* Cheese balls\n* Tissue paper\n* Biscuit \n* Noodles\n* Detergent and bathing soap.\n\nWe took it to the orphanage home for the children and gave it to them.
