      "body": "Blockchain technology powers all of the Cryptocurrency that we know and love today. However, its implications have a far greater impact in our world than we now realize. The rise in popularity of Cryptocurrency has brought with it much excitement, as well as much debate. In all this hype, many of us seem to have a misunderstanding about Blockchain and Cryptocurrency. In this article, we will discuss these two subjects in order to get a better understanding of what Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies really are.\n\n# Understanding the Problem\nIn order gain a better understanding of what exactly Blochain technology is, let us start by first understanding the problem. At its root, the problem we face today is in transferring assets from one party to another. In the current system today, this problem is addressed by using a trusted third party to manage the transaction. As an example, today, if I wanted to transfer money from the United States to my relatives in Austrellia, I would need to give my money to a trusted third party like MoneyGram. Once MoneyGram receives my money, they then ensure it is transferred to the appropriate account in Austrellia. This process can take several days. And, MoneyGram can take a very large fee for providing the service. \n\nNot only is this process slow and expensive, due to recent events, some have dven questioned whether or not we can trust these middlemen, like Banks.\n\n# Enter Blockchain, the Solution to Our Problem\nThis issue of slow and expensive transfers is what Blockchain technology aims to solve. Blockchain technology solves this problem by removing the middleman altogether. A quick online search for Blockchain reveals that it is “a digital ledger in which transactions made in bitcoin or another cryptocurrency are recorded chronologically and publicly.” \n\nOkay, what the hell does that mean? Well, let’s break it down so we can better understand it. First, Blockchain is a digital ledger. For those not aware, a ledger is basically a record tracking the financial accounts of some type. In other words, a ledger is a record that tracks the movement of some kind of financial account. For example, a cash ledher tracks the amount of cash going in and going out of an account. \n\nNext, transactions are recorded chronologically and publicly. Transactions in the Blockchain ledger are recorded starting from the earliest transaction to the latest transaction. This means that as transactions are added to the ledger, a traceable history of every transaction is available. Since this record is public, anybody can view it at any given time. \n\nYou have also probably heard that Blockchain is decentralized. What this means is that, while there is only one global centralized ledger, no one entity is responsible for keeping it up to date and maintaining it. Instead, it relies on a network of volunteers — called miners — that are all given the responsibility of keeping the ledger updated. \n\nWith all these people (or computers) trying to keep the ledger updated, how do we know which one to follow? Well, there are a few methods that have been developed to solve this problem. All of which may make your eyes roll from their complexity. But, in short, math. \n\nIt is important to understand that while Blockchain technology is often said to be decentralized, this may not always be the case depending on the implementation. Ripple, XRP, is an example of a cryptocurrency that utilizes a centralized Blockchain implementation.\n\nIn summary, Blockchain is a digital record of transactions that is publicly available. Blockchain solves the problem of transferring assets by eliminating the middleman altogether. \n\nThis new technology has a few benefits over the old solution. First, is its speed. Compared to traditional solutions, which can take days, Blockchain technology can accomplish the same transactions in minutes. Second is cost. Utilizing Blockchain technology can dramatically reduce the cost of such transfers. Third is trust. More specifically, the lack of trust. Since Blockchain technology removes the “trusted third party” altogether, there is no need to trust and hope your money gets to its destination safely. This is one thing that causes many beneficiaries of the traditional system, like banks, do not like and oppose. \n\n# What is Cryptocurrency?\nEarlier, we discussed how the Blockchain technology is a public ledger that can be used to transfer assets. So, now we move to one such use case for this technology — Cryptocurrency. As its name implies, Cryptocurrency is a currency that utilizes Blockchain technology to perform transactions. Cryptocurrency utilizes Cryptography techniques — hence the name “Crypto” — to regulate the supply of the currency and to verify transactions. Because of the nature of the underlying Blockchain technology, Cryptocurrency can function even without a central bank. \n\n# Conclusion\nIn this article, we covered what Blockchain is, as well as what Cryptocurrency is.       "body": "<html>\n<p><img src=\"https://i.imgur.com/nczRMR0.png\"/></p>\n<p>One of the primary reasons I started this blog was to address a growing issue that greatly concerns me. Cryptocurrency has brought many opportunities to make financial gains. However, the influx of new, less experienced investors, has brought with it a growing concern. As I discussed <a href=\"https://steemit.com/cryptocurrencies/@silver79/a-concern-in-the-cryptocurrency-community\">in an earlier post</a>, many newcomers are coming into this space with little or no clue what they are getting into, and having the wrong expectations. It is even made worse as some of these newcomers are throwing in thousands of dollars of their hard-earned money into what is essentially a gamble since many seem to have done little or no research prior to entering the game.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>In order to help better inform other people about the game of Cryptocurrency investing, I have decided to start this series called \"Journey into Cryptocurrency\" where I share with everyone my own experience in Cryptocurrency investing, including my wins, my losses, and the important lessons I learned along the way. For the record, <strong>I am not a professional trader nor a financial advisor</strong>. And, this series is not intended to teach you to be an overnight millionaire. The intent of this series is to share with you what I have learned along my journey thus far so that you will not make the same mistakes I made. But more importantly, the intent of this series is to just keep it real. Like amny others reading this, I am just a regular individual that wants to help other people.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Throughout this series, I may, at times, mention products or services offered by firms. The products and/or services I mention throughout this series are ones that I have personally used and/or continue to use to this day.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>A second reason I am doing this series is to learn. It is said that the best way to learn is to teach. Throughout this series, I intend to teach what I have learned so far, as well as to learn from engaging discussions within the community. I am an avid learner and I am always trying to gain new knowledge and skills to better myself.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>If you find the information in this series helpful, or if you know someone that can benefit from this series, it would be greatly appreciated if you shared this with them. As a Computer Science student, I was aware that my career path was in high demand and that numerous job opportunities were available. I also knew that times were quickly changing and that the traditional path to success was no longer a guarantee. It is for that reason I begun reading as much as I could. I knew that it was important to learn new skills that were not always taught at school if I wanted to succeed in this information-driven economy. And in this post, I share the top five books about the subjects of Business and Entrepreneurship that I have read thus far.&nbsp;</p>\n<h1>5. The Lean Startup</h1>\n<p>Eric Ries' The Lean Startup is one of the first book I have read in this subject. It challenged the belief of \"getting it right the first time\", which many of us, myself included, are conditioned to believe in school. The Lean Startup addresses the need for speed and rapid iteration over the traditional structured approach in product development and business systems in today's rapidly evolving environment. In his book, The Power of Broke, he challenges the notion that more capital is the solution to the challenges most startups face. In fact, Daymond John argues that startups with an abundance of capital tend to do worse than those with scarce capital. He argues that entrepreneurs with an abundance of capital tend to believe that many challenges they face can be resolved by throwing more money at the problem instead of considering better alternative solutions.       "body": "Hey all. I got too caught up with making articles that I forgot to introduce myself. But, I suppose it is better late than never. \n\nHello Steemians! My name is Patrick. But, I often go as Silver online. I am a very tech savvy individual with a diverse set of interest. I love programming. I first started when I was 14 with Objective-C (bad idea). Since then, I have done the basics they teach you at school — Java and C++. But, what I really enjoy is developing Web Applications. I am currently working on a Laravel project, which I am not yet ready to discuss publicly. \n\nOutside of technology, I also enjoy the game of investing. I have read countless books on the matter, and have done a lot of paper trades to test my understanding on the Stock Market. Within the last six months, I decided to invest in Cryptocurrency to really test my knowledge when it came to putting my own money in the line. It is definitely one thing when you don’t have any money at stake. Having real money at stake is a totally different experience because you are really testing how well you handle your emotions. As such, I have made money, lost money, and learned very valuable lessons. I enjoy every bit of it. And, I learn very quickly by actually doing it. The game of money is a very exciting one. \n\nI am also in the process of starting a business. We are at the product development stage right now. With this business, I hope to, in addition to helping a lot of people, build an income generating asset. Robert Kyosaki said that to build wealth, we need to shift our focus from  income to assets. \n\nI am also self-publishing a Kindle Book about investing lessons in cryptocurrency that I have learned so far. The reason I am doing this is that I see quite a lot of people getting in Cryptocurrency with a lack of understanding of basic investing. In addition, there are just so many people pretending to be experts, trying to sell very expensive courses on the matter. So, I see an opportunity to help others by sharing my own experiences, as well as the lessons I learned so that they don’t make the same mistakes I made. Unlike the others, this is just going to be a straightforward book. No upselling a course. No promoting an investment or idea. Its intent is to highlight what factors to consider, from someone who has been there for a while and has made those mistakes. \n\nAnyways, enough about me. So, what will I contribute to the Steemit community? Well, I can assure you I will post only articles that think can add value to other people. I will primarily be posting articles about my two passions: Technology and Investing. As you can see by my earlier posts, I tend to put a lot of thought into what I publish.
