| title | CBD consumption. THC positive? |
| body | The potential benefits of CBD oil have gained more and more attention in recent years, and the number of studies performed on the matter has risen considerably. This trend can be observed by performing a simple search on Google Trends for “CBD”; the figures have doubled in the last year. But despite that, skepticism still surrounds CBD, given that - like THC – it is a component of the cannabis plant; research and clinical trials continue as studies seek to define the concrete benefits of this chemical. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are two of the most well-known chemical compounds that are parts of the cannabis plant. They have a similar structure on an atomic level, but their effects and uses can be very different. THC is also the only substance belonging to the cannabis plant which is potently psychoactive. While TCH is responsible for prompting sensations, CBD is actually helpful in relieving all those symptoms. Besides that, studies have shown that CBD actually helps people that face different contemporary medical conditions like depression or anxiety. Even though CBD is still a controversial substance, it has proven benefits in treating the following conditions: - PTSD - Seizures - Schizophrenia - Epilepsy - Crohn’s Disease - Inflammatory bowel disease Conversely, THC can have some quite different effects: - Appetite stimulation - Detrimental effect on motor skills - Muscle spasms - Inducing sleep - Anti-inflammation - Reducing nausea - Increased good mood As substances rise in popularity, so do the number of questions surrounding them – especially those related to testing. There are some European countries where CBD consumption is legal under certain conditions, but within most countries a prescription is needed. Switzerland, for example, is the home of the world’s first tobacco-and-hemp cigarette, which can be purchased in supermarkets – it contains less than 1% THC and a high amount (10% – 20%) of CBD. But the question many CBD consumers have is: will CBD-oil consumption lead to a positive THC test? The answer is conditional. Does CBD-oil consumption lead to a positive THC urine test? It doesn’t depend only on the test used, but also on the CBD product consumed. There are manufacturers that produce CBD products that are completely THC-free, whereas other products contain a slight amount of THC (enhancing some medical benefits). The tests in our range, for example, are designed to detect traces of THC, not CBD. Generally, in order to test positive for THC following the use of CBD oil, the amount of CBD oil would need to be extremely high. The urine drug screening test for THC and its metabolites is known to have very little cross-reactivity with other cannabinoids that are not psychoactive (like CBD). Nonetheless, a consumer using extremely high daily quantities of CBD (1000 mg a day or higher) may be exposed to around 3 mg of THC per day, possibly enough to trigger a positive result during a drug screen. | title | Mixing antidepressants and alcohol |
| body | There has been an overwhelming increase in the number of burnouts, depression and anxiety cases all over the world. Social pressure, careers, family problems, financial challenges, and the search for identity and meaning: all of these can allow for the aforementioned mental health issues to creep into one’s life; often hand in hand with alcohol consumption. There is a persisting misconception that alcohol dulls the symptoms of depression, when in fact it can worsen the condition. Many people remain unaware of this, and prefer to numb themselves with either alcohol alone or in conjunction with antidepressants. Awareness of this issue is of utmost importance. In truth, there are numerous side effects that can crop up when mixing these two substances and the consequences might not be worth the trouble. Alcohol has negative effects even when consumed by itself: decreasing the quality of sleep (although it gives the false impression that it doesn’t), inducing sedation/anger, creating hangover effects (headaches, nausea and vomiting) which in turn worsen the symptoms of depression, and cause weight gain, high blood pressure, etc. Antidepressants are drugs used for the treatment of major depressive disorders by alleviating symptoms, but these are often also prescribed for conditions like social anxiety disorder, dysthymia, chronic pain, eating disorder, etc. These are used at the highest rates in the United States, but some European countries like Iceland, Denmark, Sweden or Portugal are not lagging far behind. Mixing antidepressants with alcohol is not only ineffective in its purpose (as it counteracts the effects of the antidepressants), but it can also become dangerous, depending on the amount and type of substances combined. The following situations might occur: 1. You may feel even more depressed or anxious The combination of antidepressants with alcohol can actually make one feel more depressed afterwards. As alcohol acts like a sedative that slows down the nervous system, it can actually also prevent the antidepressants from doing their job. There is a misconception that alcohol lifts up the mood; it does but that is just a short term effect of it. 2. You may have trouble sleeping Just as in the case of depression and anxiety, there is a misunderstanding between alcohol helping one to fall asleep more easily (short term effect) and actually aiding sleeping well throughout the night. Even though alcohol might induce a sleepier state, it actually disturbs sleep quality during the night which does not only affect one’s overall health and mood, but actually has long term effects physically and promotes depressive tendencies. 3. Increased medication side effects Antidepressants alone can cause a certain range of side effects, the risks of which are increased by adding alcohol to the equation. Some of these side effects include nausea, restlessness, nervousness, sedation, impaired thinking or extreme drowsiness. | title | 20 facts about alcohol consumption |
| body | Alcohol abuse and binge drinking not only damages an individual’s health, but also has consequences affecting those around them. Unfortunately, this is not enough to stop irresponsible drinking behavior, which can cause tragic accidents or painful diseases all around the world. It is important to know some facts about alcohol consumption, even if we consider ourselves only ‘casual drinkers’. One should be aware of what too much drinking means and where those limits are. Below are listed 20 facts about alcohol consumption that we hope will increase awareness of the subject: 1. Women absorb alcohol into the bloodstream faster and metabolize it more slowly than men. 2. Alcohol is involved in one-third of drowning accidents. 3. Alcohol goes directly into the bloodstream, which is why it affects every system in the body. 4. The path of alcohol in the body is: mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, brain and the liver. 5. Alcohol misuse is associated with very many deadly traffic accidents. 6. Only time will sober a person up. Drinking energy drinks, exercising or taking cold showers will not help. 7. A person is injured by drunk driving every 2 minutes. 8. The highest rates of drunk driving occur among drivers aged 21-24. This age group makes up 35% of alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal collisions. 9. Single-vehicle collisions are much more likely to occur when drink-driving is a factor. 10. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for teens. Roughly one third of these accidents involve the use of alcohol or another substance. 11. On average, those arrested for drunk driving have done so up to 80 times before being caught. 12. Alcohol affects the body’s responses. It slows down the brain which in turn makes us more likely to have an accident. 13. Alcohol dilutes itself in the water volume of the body. This is why vital organs that contain a lot of water (such as the brain) are particularly vulnerable to the effects of alcohol. 14. With a BAC (blood alcohol content) level of .08 g/dL, it would take approximately six hours after drinking for the body to completely eradicate alcohol from its system. 15. A driver with a BAC of .08 g/dL is 11 times more likely to be in a fatal accident than a driver who has consumed no alcohol. 16. You can measure your BAC with a breathalyzer 15 minutes after you consume your first drink. 17. Among the European countries, Finland tops in alcohol based road accidents. 18. Approximately 17% of men and 8% of women will be dependent on alcohol in their lifetime. 19. Men are about twice as likely as women to drive under alcohol influence and to be involved in a fatal collision. 20. To determine if a driver is under alcohol influence, a police officer will typically choose to use a breathalyzer. A breathalyzer is a machine that estimates a driver’s blood alcohol content level by determining the amount of alcohol in his or her lungs. Driving under alcohol influence is a serious matter and can have deadly consequences within seconds. Make sure you and your loved ones are safe by abstaining from alcohol before driving and avoiding excessive alcohol intake in general. Alcohol tends to make one feel over-confident and more likely to take risks while driving. This increases the risk of accidents and can have repercussions on any road user, including you. If you notice signs of alcoholism, or you just want to determine the level of alcohol in one’s body, a breathalyzer is the perfect solution for that. Here you can order your own alcohol tester. Roughly one third of these accidents involve the use of alcohol or another substance.\n\n11. On average, those arrested for drunk driving have done so up to 80 times before being caught.\n\n12. Alcohol affects the body’s responses. It slows down the brain which in turn makes us more likely to have an accident.\n\n13. Alcohol dilutes itself in the water volume of the body. This is why vital organs that contain a lot of water (such as the brain) are particularly vulnerable to the effects of alcohol.\n\n14. With a BAC (blood alcohol content) level of .08 g/dL, it would take approximately six hours after drinking for the body to completely eradicate alcohol from its system.\n\n15. A driver with a BAC of .08 g/dL is 11 times more likely to be in a fatal accident than a driver who has consumed no alcohol.\n\n16. You can measure your BAC with a breathalyzer 15 minutes after you consume your first drink.\n\n17. Among the European countries, Finland tops in alcohol based road accidents.\n\n18. Approximately 17% of men and 8% of women will be dependent on alcohol in their lifetime.\n\n19. Men are about twice as likely as women to drive under alcohol influence and to be involved in a fatal collision.\n\n20. To determine if a driver is under alcohol influence, a police officer will typically choose to use a breathalyzer. A breathalyzer is a machine that estimates a driver’s blood alcohol content level by determining the amount of alcohol in his or her lungs.\n\nDriving under alcohol influence is a serious matter and can have deadly consequences within seconds. Here you can order your own alcohol tester.\n\nSources:\n\nwww.madd.org\n\nwww.newbeginningsdrugrehab.org\n\nwww.drinkdrivingfacts.com\n\nwww.cafebabel.co.uk\n\nfacts.randomhistory.com",

| title | Detection time of cannabis in the body |
| body | For how long is cannabis (marijuana, hashish, etc.) detectable in the body? Many consumers of cannabis products wonder for how long marijuana or hashish will remain detectable in the body. Afterall, nobody wants to risk losing their driving license or to test positive as part of an investigation. The detection time of cannabis strongly depends on how intensively it was consumed prior to the test and which method will be used for testing. The detection time for blood, saliva, urine and hair testing is very different. Detection times of cannabis in blood In blood, active THC can only be detected for a few hours after consumption, whereas the degradation product/metabolite THC-COOH can be detected for a longer time frame in cases of regular consumption. A blood test is usually performed following an accident or during traffic control by the police - if the result of the rapid test performed was positive. Detection times of cannabis in saliva It is difficult to detect cannabis consumption in saliva – it remains detectable only for a few hours, after which individuals will test negative. The saliva rapid tests detect exclusively active THC and not its metabolite (degradation product) THC-COOH. It is only possible to detect cannabis consumption with a saliva test if the consumption took place within a few hours before the test. Detection times of cannabis in urine The question of how long cannabis consumption remains detectable in urine is not straightforward. Here it is really important to have a background on the ‘consumer behavior’. In cases of one-time consumption, it can be said with relative certainty that the detection time is 1-3 days after intake. However, if a person has consumed cannabis more than once, regularly or heavily over a period of time, the time span for detection becomes substantially greater. Since it is the metabolite THC-COOH examined in urine tests, the question about the time of consumption can usually not be answered very precisely. With regular cannabis consumption, the metabolite THC-COOH accumulates faster than urine can eliminate it from the body. Therefore, there are cases in which a urine test can still be positive for 2-3 months, even if consumption has not taken place since this time. This can have disastrous consequences, particularly in the case of police traffic control, when urine rapid tests are performed. The Drug-Detect Cannabis (THC) urine test allows you to test urine samples for traces of THC just as the police do, for example. Detection times of cannabis in hair In hair, consumed substances are permanently “stored”. This means the longer the individual’s hair, the greater the chance of cannabis use detection in a drug screening. Here, one assumes an average hair growth of about 1cm per month. Subsequently, this means that a hair strand of 6 cm is a record of consumption behavior over the past 6 months. Our Forensis Hair Follicle Test Cannabinoids (THC) is such a test which can be ordered at home and performed both privately or for legal matters. Here you can find an overview of the detection times of many other drugs in saliva. |

| body | Opioids encompass different substances, such as heroin or morphine, but they all have the same method of action. Prescription opioids, which have more or less the same method of action as natural opiates, include drugs such as hydrocodone, oxycodone and fentanyl. With prolonged use, the user becomes both increasingly tolerant to the substance, as well as dependent on it, requiring increased dosage and suffering a barrage of negative symptoms upon abrupt discontinuation (opioid withdrawal symptoms). The deaths caused by opioid overdose, especially from prescription drugs and heroin, have reached epidemic levels all over the world. Opioids include all substances producing a morphine-like effect. One can differentiate between natural opium derivates and synthetic drugs. Short term effects of opioids/opiates intake: Feeling of euphoria Pain relief Drowsiness Sedation Opioids/opiates side effects: Lethargy Paranoia Respiratory depression Nausea Pinprick or pinpoint pupils Facts about opioids/opiates: 1. The risk of crossing the thin line between capitalizing on the analgesic effects of opiates/opioids, and becoming addicted, is very high; 2. The medical use of opiates includes pain relief (acute pain after surgery, injury or trauma, cancer pain, pain arising from disease), anesthesia, cough suppression, diarrhea suppression, de-addiction (in the case of heroin, for example); 3. Mixing opioids or opiates with alcohol is highly dangerous (increased risk of adverse events and overdose); 4. Opiates can be addictive, even as a prescribed drug; 5. Opiates/opioids use can be lethal, irrespective of a person’s history of use; 6. Fentanyl, a new synthetic opioid painkiller, is one of the most dangerous substances at the moment, being 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Fentanyl is also tasteless and odorless, making it hard to recognize. 7. High doses of opioids, especially potent opioids such as fentanyl, can cause respiratory depression, which can be fatal; 8. Fentanyl is extremely dangerous especially when taken in combination with other drugs, e.g. if the consumers are not aware that those drugs are cut with this substance. Most cases of this kind are lethal; 9. Even 2 mg of Fentanyl is a lethal dose; 10. Carfentanyl is an analog of the synthetic opioid analgesic fentanyl, and it is 10.000 more potent than morphine. If the opiates are prescribed to treat pain only for a short time period, these are less likely to lead to an addiction. Problems often appear when the patients develop a tolerance for the drug and the initial prescribed doses does not have the initial effect. If you suspect that a friend/family member is using opioids without prescription or supplements to the prescribed doses, there are Opioids substance test that can confirm/contest the suspicion in order to offer in time the needed help. Overdose death is preventable. |

The deaths caused by opioid overdose, especially from prescription drugs and heroin, have reached epidemic levels all over the world.\n\nOpioids include all substances producing a morphine-like effect. | title | LSD: Effects and facts |
| body | LSD, also known as acid, is one of the most potent mood-changing chemicals around; even if consumed in tiny amounts, it can still produce 12 hours or more of unpredictable effects. The drug is derived from a very poisonous ergot fungus, a mold that grows on grains. LSD is a psychedelic drug which has psychological effects and it is commonly used as a recreational drug or for spiritual reasons. Physical effects of LSD: - Dilatation of pupils - Increased temperature - High blood pressure - Increased heart rate - Sweating and nausea Even though the effects of LSD are more pronounced on a mental rather than physical level, some consequences linger following long term use of the drug. First of all, individuals can develop tolerance for the drug, and then require a larger dose of LSD for the desired effects. If the dose is too high, this can lead to a life threatening level of toxicity. A cardiovascular collapse or sudden heart failure is also a high possibility following a long term use of the drug. Mixing LSD with other drugs poses a serious health risk and can also drastically increase the chances of a bad trip. Mixed with alcohol, LSD can cause nausea and vomiting. Psychological effects of LSD: - Euphoria and well being - Hallucinations (seeing/hearing things that aren’t there) - Confusion and trouble concentrating - The delusion that one has extreme mental clarity - Unusual thoughts and increase in associative and creative thinking - Over-awareness and over-sensitivity to music and noise - Paranoia, fear and panic - Occasional bad trips; so powerful that the effects can be irreversible (especially among people that have mental health issues in their family) The mental effects of LSD are unpredictable and differ a lot based on the drug dose. Effects usually start to show 30-45 minutes after consumption and can last from 3 to 12 hours (factors that can influence this are the user’s metabolism, the tolerance level towards the drug, etc.). There can also be psychological long term effects of consuming the drug such as flashbacks, paranoia or even psychosis. The flashbacks can occur a few weeks, a few months or even a few years after consumption and can last for a minute or two. Facts about LSD: - It was first synthesized in 1938 in Basel, Switzerland - It is also known as “Lucy”, “yellow sunshine”, “trips” but has various names used on the streets - LSD does not create a physical addiction, but it can become addictive on a psychological level - Tripping on LSD has aided at least 2 Nobel Prize winners in their scientific discoveries. - After its discovery in 1938, LSD was used experimentally to treat neuroses, drug addiction, autism, alcoholism, terminally-ill cancer patients and to study the mechanisms of psychotic diseases such as schizophrenia. If you suspect that a friend or someone close to you is using LSD, try and have a frank discussion with them or seek professional help. |

| title | Detection time of drugs in saliva |
| body | Substance testing has been in use for many years, particularly by law enforcement officers and security agencies; but these days, such tests are available for every individual to order online and perform in the intimacy of their own home. There are multiple ways of substance testing, which differ mainly based on sample type (hair, urine, saliva, etc.) and the time frame that has passed since the consumption of the substance/substances. In this article, we will focus on the particulars of saliva testing and its comparison with other forms of testing. Saliva testing Normally a saliva test is performed in order to find out if the person tested has consumed any illicit substances in recent hours. Due to the short time window in which it can be detected, saliva is a suitable sample matrix for determining the impairment of the person in question at the moment of testing. Whereas a urine test could also indicate this, such tests do not come with a 100% assurance that the tested person is still under the influence of that specific substance, but rather if the substance was used in the recent days. Oral fluid testing of any type however cannot be used to speculate or verify frequency or longevity of drug use by the tested individual. Saliva testing has one of the shortest time frames of detection compared to other testing methods. It is generally unable to detect the presence of substances for longer than 72 hours from use – though this can at times be reduced to even just a couple of hours. However, drugs are detectable within just a few minutes after consumption, and results are nigh on impossible to manipulate. Although there are some guidelines regarding the time frames in which drugs remain detectable in saliva, we want to emphasise that this rests on a number of factors - namely the substance used, the way it was consumed, and so forth. As an overview, the table below gives the time frames for the detectability of the most commonly-used drugs: Stop doubting, start testing! |

However, drugs are detectable within just a few minutes after consumption, and results are nigh on impossible to manipulate.\n\nAlthough there are some guidelines regarding the time frames in which drugs remain detectable in saliva, we want to emphasise that this rests on a number of factors - namely the substance used, the way it was consumed, and so forth.\n\nAs an overview, the table below gives the time frames for the detectability of the most commonly-used drugs: \n\n\nStop doubting, start testing!",
