Everybody wants to look through the binocular and see the paradise: the green hills and white beaches of Martinique. We always imagined our arrival to be more ore less like this. But as winds and weather changed only hours before our arrival it was clear it'll be different. The wind increased and turned to northern directions so we had to tack for the last miles. A lot of squalls brought as rain and the waves got higher. The green hills on the horizon were hidden in the dust even though we were quite close. It wasn't as epic as we imagined our arrival to be, but still: we just crossed the fu**ing Atlantic Ocean!\n\n![106.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWgFruu7H23dJTCyjaz5pjygz6bjxwQ2XSofR6BHdo2iJ/106.jpg)\n\nAfter 27 days with nothing else than water around us we finally reached our paradise, that's the day we always thought about and worked for during the last year. \nThe weeks between Tenerife and Martinique were mostly smooth and easy. In the first week we sailed directly to the south until we reached the Cape Verde Islands, trying to find the tradewinds. Until we finally found them south of this Archipelago we had some windless days. A big “ThankYou” to our friend Nici who checked and analyzed the weather for us and told us were to go. We all started sailing together in the same sailing club, right now his sailing project is having a rest at the Faröer Islands.\nWith the tradewinds in our back we sailed directly to the west, LIV is getting faster and faster. The winds are good and stable and our new Parasailor is the perfect sail for this kind of sailing. We spent our time playing cards (a bavarian game called “Sheaphead”), reading the fantastic stories of Patrick O'Brian and many others, fishing, bathing, we think about the future and enjoy every sunset, we discuss our dreams, do sports and bear Simons jokes. We have massage sessions, solve a riddle everyday and enjoy the best food a crew ever had during a crossing. And our best and most important companion: a lot of good music! At 28° Celsius its a pleasure being pulled after the boat. (The source of our temperature-sensor is by the way still a mystery to us). The only bigger accident happened two days before the arrival. Jens fires the ace of hearts into the water and we have to enjoy the last days cardgamefree after 485 games of “Schafkopf”. Luckily only for two days – and also most of the can food stayed at the end where it belongs - in its cans. Only two to three times we had some of them and noodles with pesto even just once! We were mostly dining like kings! Nevertheless we can not wait to enjoy the fresh foods of the caribbean islands! Corralejo is the perfect home base for a surf trip! With its laid back flair we could stay here forever; cool bars and cafes, lots of nice people and there's something going on every night! The surf spots are close, buses and rental cars are cheap as well as hostels and apartments! We meet our homies and join their “Chaos Tour” for a while. Some say this is “the best” at days with perfect conditions. It's not, but for a surf with a SUP the waves are quite good, but only at high tide. Jens catches wave after wave with our SUP. Some locals are rocking the waves with their boards but the few other surfers aren't having fun – Basti catches hardly waves. Every few minutes there's a party boat, a speed boat or a jet ski tour coming. We hadn't planed it, but somehow we spent a day at this small island. Completely unexpected we find a small reefbreak.\nWhat's better than to throw your board into the water, jump off the boat and paddle into the line up only minutes after your breakfast on deck?!\nThe swell of this nice right is always less than in Fuerteventura, but with the reef only 40 – 100 cm under the surface you can only surf small waves up to 1 metre. Just bring your neoprene shoes and start cruising! It's a perfect spot, especially for your SUP and there's no other surfer! Without a yacht you can catch a taxi boat. The wave is so good, on some days you don't want to be anywhere else! There are two peaks, an easy right and a peak you can surf in both directions. Most of the surfers in the line up are locals and there is quite a number of SUPs, but everyone is nice and chill. With the waves getting higher Rocky Point is getting quite tricky because of the rocks on the ground.\nWe anchor with our tender right next to the line up and 2 minutes later we surf the first wave of the day! North of the beautiful little village Valetta de Famara is a huge surfing spot, and even when there's a “no swell” forecast for the whole island you can catch some waves there! You'll find a nice left on the southern and a good right wave on the northern end of the bay. Both break on rocky to sandy ground. Between them there are many other peaks but you can't surf them that long, but that's the place for the surf schools and beginners. That gives the surfers more space and everyone is nice and chill.\nThe village itself is beautiful, laid back and authentic, beside the surfers there are no other tourists – our favourite spot on Lanzarote!\nWe use the easy left to get back the feeling for our boards. Even though the waves are only one metre high we have lots of fun, the beach and the weather are simply perfect! The last two weeks from Gibraltar to the Canary islands have been the hardest everyone of us experienced. But first things first. \nAlready in Gibraltar (or ‚Gib‘ how the locals say) we  had our first delay, because our gear box makes a hell of trouble. So we set sails three days later as planned. Nevertheless the atmosphere was good, as we passed Tarifa and headed out on the Atlantic with great speed. Wind direction is perfect and Morocco is whooshing by. A deep pressure area is moving from the Azores and shall reach us in two days with southwesterly winds. That would be straight from the Canary Islands. So every mile we counts as we break speed records. Seven knots and a bit. We are optimistic.\nThe deep pressure area hit‘s us earlier than we thought – and hit’s us hard. Day by day we are tacking against the wind and are only creeping towards the Canary Islands. With reefed genua sails we are hardly able to stay upwind and we almost stay were we are. The jib, we bought exactly for this situation still in the sewing factory. Pretty bad timing. We are drifting from one side to the other. The wind is blowing with 30 to 40 knots and the waves are reaching heights about eight metres. It is gigantic to see what mountains of water are rolling underneath of us. Sometimes a breaking one changes our cockpit into an aquarium. A real trial of strength for our old lady. Apropos lady – Paula is aboard. She is the only one of us who manages to put a pot of noodles on the stove from time to time. Sounds simple, but it isn‘t. Not in this conditions. The interior is a diagonal space and a boat swing at the same time. Below deck we are only able to lay straight, otherwise we are getting sick. But there are plenty things to do -  writing logbook, bailing out water from the bilge, tooth brushing, getting new pills against seasickness from the medibag. The easiest thing become a torture. A heated can or a warm porridge are bringing fresh energy in irregular spacings. Except for Basti. The poor guy got at the same time diarrhoea. The stinkingness-factor is increasing rapidly. Everything is damp, the jackets are stinking, the grease of our hairs is sticking to our pillows and we don’t know yet how the weather is changing the next days. We are dreaming of the small things. Our GPS is able again to calculate an estimated time of arrival. Unfortunately just a little ray of hope. During the night we get hit by a thunderstorm. „All hands!“ is Basti shouting from a pitch-black cockpit. All mast sliders which connect the mainsail to the mast have broken. Shortly after that, the halyard also breaks and our mainsails is drifting alongside the boat. As if that wasn’t enough, there is a oil tanker heading towards us. Probably the crew is sleeping in their comfortable beds and the autopilot is steering. After plenty of trys to get someone on the radio they finally responded and changed the course. With daylight the clouds are clearing up and some long missed sunbeams are warming our faces. Thats enough of the hard times for now! Wind is decreasing and we are back on track to Lanzarote. What a good feeling! After a shower and fresh clothes we eat grilled vegetables, orange, mango, rice, porridge with fresh apples, some tortilla chips, cheese and salami.
