      "body": "The SPDR S&P 500 ETF is the most traded ETF on the NYSE with over 63,000,000 shares traded every day. For those of us new to the investing world an ETF is like a mutual fund, but trades like a stock when the market is open. They tend to be more liquid than mutual funds and can be bought or sold whenever the market is open. If you want to check it out you can go to a place like Yahoo! Finance page and search for the stock ticker SPY. You can get to the Yahoo! Fiance page here https://finance.yahoo.com/. This market fund has a market cap just over a quarter trillion dollars. It is considered one of the most diversified ETFs out there. It represents stocks that have a combined market cap of 22.6 Trillion USD and these companies create most of the wealth on the US exchanges.\n\nThe index has components that are restaurants, retailers, manufactures, marketing companies, mining companies, heavy industry, utilities, tech companies and conglomerates. If someone wants to invest in the stock market in general this is a great place to start! However, it does have some weaknesses for those off us that are income minded investors. The quarterly dividend only represents about 1.86 %. If you invested a $1,000,000 in the SPY and wanted to only withdraw the dividends you would only receive $18,600 per year in income. If you wanted to live off this theoretical million dollar portfolio you would need to also sell shares and dig into the principal. It also means that one day, if you live long enough, you will run out of money. This doesn't seem to be the best use of what takes most people a lifetime to accumulate!\n\nMany investment articles are written about how much you can withdraw from a portfolio and not run out of money.       "body": "The SPDR S&P 500 ETF is the most traded ETF on the NYSE with over 63,000,000 shares traded every day.  For those of us new to the investing world an ETF is like a mutual fund, but trades like a stock when the market is open.  They tend to be more liquid that mutual funds and can be bought or sold whenever the market is open.   If you want to check it out you can go to a place like Yahoo! Finance page and search for the stock ticker SPY.  You can get to the Yahoo! Fiance page here https://finance.yahoo.com/.  This market fund has a market cap  just over a quarter trillion dollars.  It is considered one of the most diversified ETFs out there.  It represents stocks that have a combined market cap of 22.6 Trillion USD and these companies create most of the wealth on the US exchanges.\n\nThe index has components that are restaurants, retailers, manufactures, marketing companies, mining companies, heavy industry, utilities, tech companies and conglomerates.  If someone wants to invest in the stock market in general this is a great place to start!  However, it does have some weaknesses for those off us that are income minded investors.  The quarterly dividend only represents about 1.86 %.  If you invested a $1,000,000 in the SPY and wanted to only withdraw the dividends you would only receive $18,600 per year in income.  If you wanted to live off this theoretical million dollar portfolio you would need to also sell shares and dig into the principal.  It also means that one day, if you live long enough, you will run out of money.
