      "body": "In the late winter and early spring  I focus my energy beyond the protection of the inside sounds, creeks, and rivers to fish crab pots in the Atlantic Ocean.  Female crabs like to move towards deep salty waters off the beach around inlets and patches of mud.  This is one of the only strategies this time of year to produce any quantity of crabs.       "title": "The unrelenting force of erosion",
      "body": "Wind, tide, and waves can be so random yet so precise in their ability to change a landscape.  This is Masonboro Island on the coast of Southeastern North Carolina.  It is an undeveloped stretch of coast that only can be accessed at certain tides.  This leaves it empty a lot of the time and especially in winter.  The consolidation of shell and sand is evident in the layers of this mini beach cliff. The chunkiest shells lock together and the sugary sand flows downward  by never ending  wind gusts.       "body": "In the late winter and early spring we get many types of algae that blooms and floats freely with the currents until it grabs on to any fixed object.  We have hundreds of traps that snag this algae which makes for a long day of clearing.  When this mass of grass appears out of the depths it means that our pace slows down to clear it off.   It also means there are probably no crabs in the trap due to it being hidden under the hundreds of pounds of immense vegetation.  Not only is it heavy but it wraps up the line so securely that most times you have to rip it, just to remove it.
