bodyI totally agree. I was raised by a community of teachers and the importance of education was something I took for granted. While there are certainly lines of work that do require years of dedicated study and some colleges do a great job of familiarizing their students with the companies and work styles that will be their future, these aren't givens. Too often, the real function of education is reinforce class division. You don't have to feel guilty about your silver spoon if you can say you made your own way because you attended an ivy league institution. It seems to reflect on one's intelligence, as well, though an argument to that effect wouldn't stand scrutiny. There is some real social mobility and I don't mean to belittle that, but I am cynical enough to say that it too often comes more from rubbing elbows than from gaining skills. By my assessment, colleges do more to install irrational elitism than to improve society.

"body": "I totally agree. By my assessment, colleges do more to install irrational elitism than to improve society.",

bodyThem (coworker): "You really can't get anywhere without college." Me: "Anywhere? We're here right now, working and making good money to pay rent and live well." Them: "Yeah but you can't get a purposeful job." Me: "Bob (other coworker) finds this job purposeful. I find this job far closer to purposeful than any of the others I had and am using it as another stepping stone to the next one." Them: "But you could skip all that with college." Me: "Going to college I would lose $45 an hour and have to put up with a lot of bullshit that is totally meaningless to me for FOUR YEARS, that would lack far more purpose, doesn't even serve customers, and here I'm making almost $12 an hour surplus building relevant skills whilst being purposeful, directly to customers." Them: "But you can't made good money." Me: "Don't our managers make around $60,000 a year?" Them: "Sure but not six figures." Me: "My dad started as a mechanic in 1982 and now makes six figures as an electrical engineer. He makes per hour what college students lose per hour, and his job is essential to manufacturing and global trade." Them: "But I bet his colleagues make more and he's lower than them." Me: "No, his work and skill portfolio has been built over the years by what the market and employer wants, thus it's so incredibly relevant that he fits in a team perfectly and supports multiple roles. His biggest problem as a workaholic may just be, being too valuable." Them: "That story's like one in a million. What the hell are you doing instead of school?" Me: "My focus is in nonviolent solutions and skill sets; our nonprofit is currently printing a youth independence guide that champions children's rights- including discrediting the danger of school that rejects childhood autonomy." Them: "How do you run a nonprofit without any education?" Me: "I learned different skills in different places, work, volunteering, friends. I had the time on my hands once I dropped out of high school." Them: "This is ridiculous, I can see people complaining about college being expensive but to suggest kids shouldn't go to school is too far. Kids have to go to school to gain discipline and guidance from experienced adults." Me: "What do you mean by discipline? Forcing kids to do things? There's really no feasible way to gain personal autonomy in the community if one's autonomy in the classroom is constantly disrespected. From elementary through high school, kids are spending 40-60 hours per week on school and homework. If they were paid for this, it would be illegal due to child labor laws. Is this really helping anyone thrive?" Them: "Well maybe advocate for more efficiency and decreasing hours spent on school, sure." Me: "No, it's not my place to tell other people how to live. I only advocate for making school voluntary, and eradicating child labor laws so schools have to compete with the standards of paid positions." Them: "Don't tell me you want to get rid of child labor laws. They'd be worked like slaves and taken advantage of by greedy employers." Me: "What makes you think employers are greedy and schools are generous? At least employers compensate for their time and provide skills training relevant to the market. Right now kids are taken advantage of by abusive parents and schools that have total control over these kids. Realistically, anyone trying to become independent that likely has mental health issues and bills to pay cannot afford to spend 40 hours a week on a job that does not compensate. Don't you think it's an odd coincidence that most kids in most countries, developed and developing, spend 10-12 years forced into obedience centers and then come out handicapped and convinced their only option is furthering the same system? Seems to me like school is just a scam praying on a vulnerable class of people." - Captain

titleCytonomy: An Ode to the Decentralized Self
bodyAutonomy (n.) - law of self; self-rule. Cytonomy (n.) - law of cells; cell-rule. You cannot force anyone to do anything. If your goal is to change anyone, you will fail. Any desire you have to change others is your desire to have power over your own life. If someone prevented you from autonomy over yourself for so long, perhaps you redirected this desire to others. You are made of over 37 trillion cells. 50 to 100 million cells die and are born every sentence you read here. Whole worlds and epic stories have lived and passed. If you want to change a whole world, save yourself. How are you to care for whole other worlds when you can't even care for your own? How are you to save the Planet Earth if you don't even know how to be yourself? It doesn't matter if free will is "real" or not, because we perceive it. This is fundamental to being human. You are alive and know you are alive, all you do is a choice. Chemical reaction still ends with action. You may be compelled to erase yourself for the sake of the larger group, for the sake of others. It seems right? Your cells drive this, they know how to be a collective very well. They push you to be a collective too. You are made of them, but you are beyond them. You may be your cells' god. Thanks to them, you perceive. But they cannot perceive you. **You are the collective, you don't have to erase yourself to join other worlds called humans.** **What the individual human but nature's best collective formed?** *Over 37 trillion cells acting autonomously, interacting voluntarily, specializing in different fields, and formed together so seamlessly they perceive themselves as One.* If you feel that desire to join the collective, you can do so best by becoming a strong individual- making your own collective stronger, clearer, more enlivened. Humans are pack animals. We love to share, we love to enrich the lives of others. This is prevalent even in the most jaded and suffering individuals, who yearn to be heard and seen. But if you want to actualize this kind of community, strong individuals coming together, you must first become comfortable with who you are. Good action only comes from good being. If you know how to be- while your world of cells takes care of each other- then you will build a sense of reality and acceptance from the inside out. You will not always be joyful, and will not always suffer. But you will be the clearest version of you in this world. You will be actualized. Imagine then, if you walked a path deep into yourself and the darkest parts. Slowly peeling back layers. Imagine experiencing who you are with every part of you - your organs. Your skin, heart, brain, lungs, taste. Emotions, hormones, chemicals, metabolism. Many of us experience the world through our ears and eyes only, and even then we are distracted by our minds running around all the time. And our phones become second minds, hives of bees buzzing. But what if you felt your heartbeat, your feet moving, your breathing and your physical & emotional sensations- in the backdrop at all times? If you were suddenly blind, a huge part of reality would be missing. You would not be able to recognize so much of reality. Over years, you might forget what you look like. Other senses would compensate to reconstruct reality and who you are. Now imagine how much of reality you are missing by ignoring those senses. When you play a first person video game, you can see and hear what the character witnesses, but you know you are not that character. You already have more physical sense of yourself in reality than them. You feel how you sit, breathe, touch. Warm, cold, itchy, calm, hyperactive. Knowing how you react in each situation helps you know who you are. If you aren't aware of your sensations, do you really know who you are? Maybe being aware means suffering, and feeling a lot of pain. But just because you ignore it doesn’t mean you are free of it. The buzzing bees in our lives, the agitation, the restlessness. Is your world- your self- made up of tiny cells suffering together, shaking in different ways as they try to manage? If you are your cells’ god, are they confused at why their world is suffering so much? Why would their god let their world suffer? How is their god everything without being aware of them? You are “One”, made of many. Many experiences and living organisms that act independently. You are a city, a planet. If you care for your world, your world will become more of itself and how it’s supposed to be. More harmonious- world peace. It does not mean everything is joyful and comfortable all the time, but that the metabolism of joy and suffering is smooth and in harmony with the greater universe. Just as you metabolize food, you metabolize how you feel- ability, acceptance, and presence. **Your desire to change others, save the world and find purpose in life may then, just be a collective cry for help from your own body. Your cells cannot speak to you normally, but they have ways of working together, millions of cells in protest, request, and distress.** When you first sit down to listen to your body speak, you may hear an incessant wave of pain and suffering. Millions and billions of little voices, acting as bigger voices, overwhelming you. But maybe it is easier to experience this pain if you view it not as hopeless, meaningless suffering, but as part of reality and necessary to heal. You may love healing and seek out healing, you may love to take care of yourself. And still at times mistake numbing for healing, and mistake suffering for doing something wrong. In this conversation, there is no right and wrong, there is no true or false. Those things exist regardless of our acknowledgement- those things are not at threat even though we are focused elsewhere. Here, in this space, there is simply a conversation. Between you, and your world, about what is. It may then, be easier to live through this suffering, if you see it as listening to your Self and your cells. And know at the base, that this suffering is fundamental to healing. Without it, you will forever be on the same path, deepening its grooves and getting further stuck. If you ignore suffering, you will become it. And that will be who you are. None of us knows for sure if The Self is a real, single thing. It could be an illusion. But we do know, that this is a useful illusion. You were born with the gift of this illusion, and are far more powerful and larger than all the micro-organisms within you. If these cells knew that, instead of feeling and acting empowered, you were acting helpless and judging yourself based on other humans, your cells would be confused. Those worlds called humans are lightyears away- and those worlds are also very powerful to either help or hurt you. So why then, would you judge yourself based on them when you are so young in your empowerment? Your cells may see that they are so good at interacting in a community, but you are completely clueless. They would see your need for love and interconnectedness, your need for intimacy and realize how much that drives you as human, and defines you as human. They would see though, that you are hardly ready to care for yourself, let alone be with others. So then, perhaps being lonely and being alone is not a curse but a gift, the gift of the right suffering, a way of learning how to be with you. **If you can’t even be with yourself, what makes you think someone else knows how to be with you?** Are you relying on biological instincts for this? Humans are more than that. You cannot force anyone to do anything. You cannot convince them if they don’t want to be convinced, in fact, they are shattered in a million pieces, and learning how to live as human. And their parents and grandparents did the same. How could you possibly think you would have influence over them, if they don’t even know who they are? You are trying to bounce a deflated basketball in water. You may find as you focus on your Self then, that you care less and less about forcing people to do things. You will learn repeatedly, deeper each time, that it is so pointless. Attempting force is what broke them in the first place, what disrupts our existence and the soundwaves of the universe. Force is violence. None of the cells that make you up are forcing themselves or other cells to do anything. They simply interact. It is you who learned how to attempt force, it is fundamentally a human interaction- but this too is an illusion. You know that when you “force” someone to do something, you are merely convincing them of something they don’t want to do internally. This means they may choose to do it- out of hate or fear or manipulation- but they fundamentally don’t believe it and their cells scream in protest. When you desire to force them, isn’t your deeper desire a wish for them to believe? To care for you and empathize with your perspective- so you aren’t alone and can experience the joy of enriching the life of another? **If you want to enrich their life, respecting their autonomy is the first, only, and last step.** When another is suffering, it is fundamental this process isn’t interrupted. Your suffering must not be interrupted. Sometimes, if you sit back and let it be, others will gravitate to you naturally and ask for advice. If you are able to put yourself in the midst of the universe of humans, they will see you more. They will see you being centered from the inside out, they will see that your cells are interacting together better and better with each cycle, that your personal civilization is in harmony with itself and at peace with existence. **They will see that even though you are conscious of your own life, it has not made you insane.** They will gravitate towards your success and want to emulate it. Their cells drive them towards being a collective, and they sense that you are a powerful collective simply by being the clearest individual. And by the time you have that kind of power, you will be so fulfilled with your own self and meeting your own needs, you won’t need to change anyone or anything anymore. - Jack Wahlquist (seacaptain), 8/8/16

Why would their god let their world suffer? How is their god everything without being aware of them?\n\nYou are “One”, made of many. Just as you metabolize food, you metabolize how you feel- ability, acceptance, and presence.\n\n**Your desire to change others, save the world and find purpose in life may then, just be a collective cry for help from your own body. Your cells cannot speak to you normally, but they have ways of working together, millions of cells in protest, request, and distress.**\n\nWhen you first sit down to listen to your body speak, you may hear an incessant wave of pain and suffering. Millions and billions of little voices, acting as bigger voices, overwhelming you. But maybe it is easier to experience this pain if you view it not as hopeless, meaningless suffering, but as part of reality and necessary to heal. \n\nYou may love healing and seek out healing, you may love to take care of yourself. \n\nIt may then, be easier to live through this suffering, if you see it as listening to your Self and your cells. And know at the base, that this suffering is fundamental to healing. Without it, you will forever be on the same path, deepening its grooves and getting further stuck. If you ignore suffering, you will become it. And that will be who you are. \n\nNone of us knows for sure if The Self is a real, single thing. \n\nYour cells may see that they are so good at interacting in a community, but you are completely clueless. They would see your need for love and interconnectedness, your need for intimacy and realize how much that drives you as human, and defines you as human. They would see though, that you are hardly ready to care for yourself, let alone be with others. \n\nSo then, perhaps being lonely and being alone is not a curse but a gift, the gift of the right suffering, a way of learning how to be with you. **If you can’t even be with yourself, what makes you think someone else knows how to be with you?** Are you relying on biological instincts for this? Humans are more than that.\n\nYou cannot force anyone to do anything. \n\nYou may find as you focus on your Self then, that you care less and less about forcing people to do things. \n\nYou know that when you “force” someone to do something, you are merely convincing them of something they don’t want to do internally. This means they may choose to do it- out of hate or fear or manipulation- but they fundamentally don’t believe it and their cells scream in protest. When you desire to force them, isn’t your deeper desire a wish for them to believe? To care for you and empathize with your perspective- so you aren’t alone and can experience the joy of enriching the life of another?\n\n**If you want to enrich their life, respecting their autonomy is the first, only, and last step.** When another is suffering, it is fundamental this process isn’t interrupted. \n\n**They will see that even though you are conscious of your own life, it has not made you insane.** They will gravitate towards your success and want to emulate it. Their cells drive them towards being a collective, and they sense that you are a powerful collective simply by being the clearest individual. \n\nAnd by the time you have that kind of power, you will be so fulfilled with your own self and meeting your own needs, you won’t need to change anyone or anything anymore. \n\n- Jack Wahlquist (seacaptain), 8/8/16",

titleChaos Theory: a poem
bodyIn the world I saw chaos, so I sought to turn it around. But the world wasn't working right, and so it spiraled down. What was happening? I stopped, sat, and let it be. The world was just fine; this chaos was in me. I sought to help others but it was me who suffered more. From another, who came and left chaos at my door. They too had tried their best, to foster my way through. But at that time, I was fine- the world created me anew. In the world I saw fury roar, but now I stayed quite still. All the people needed then, was a space for chaos to fill. Until it unwound and became clear again, I'd listen as it rose. And slowly music formed itself- nature's sound composed. Years passed before a friend requested my humble advice. She'd been confused at my acceptance- our world was in strife. We'd grown apart over new changes so I decided to say goodbye. So I said it clear, here's my acceptance and this is the reason why: "I love myself, so myself I keep. I love you too, so I set you free." And with that, the day settled, and the world was within me.
