My thoughts so far is that the Blockchain technology is a decentralized database that is immutable, meaning nothing old can be changed. But what happens when the core team want to change the way bitcoin is (with a consensus vote).       "body": "What's going on everyone.\n\nI'm new to the crypto world, and like some people was blown away by bitcoin and how there has can only ever be 21 million bitcoins. I've always thought the way financial systems with central banks work was a bit fishy (creating money out of thin air essentially making the public pay it back in some form) and loved the idea of having a standardized (-ish) world currency using technology and the internet.   \n\nAlthough the argument between whether Bitcoin is a store of value or a currency continues to be debated but I'll keep to the vision **Satoshi Nakamoto** intended of BTC being a currency (or a 'peer-to-peer Electronic Cash system' as his Bitcoin white paper was titled ).\n\nI like tax (I know, I must be fun at parties right?). I love how they pay into services that much of the developed countries take for granted however this is where my question lies. Is there any tax when purchasing goods (or services) with Bitcoin??\n\nI've never used it as a currency before, not that I don't want too it's just that I can't. There is no where locally that accepts Bitcoin as a currency as I live in a city situated in England and not say San Fran or Amsterdam. So I'm going to take a guess how a bitcoin transaction for goods occurs (please correct me if I'm wrong). You go to buy some nice shoes and at the counter it gives the option to pay in BTC. The shoes are £50 in GBP (the Great British Pound) but using the bitcoin QR code I'd be able to buy the shoes for whatever the exchange rate for BTC->GBP is at that current time. My bitcoin goes to the shopkeepers wallet and happy days I get to wear my new shoes! .... Only to walk outside into the constant English rain and get them all muddy.\n\nThe £50 for the shoes however included VAT, the Value Added Tax approx 20%; £40 goes to shop and £10 goes as tax. I'm assuming, and pretty sure of due to my basic knowledge of how a bitcoin transaction works, that instead of the £40 going to the shop and £10 going as tax instead the shop get the full £50. This means that the doctors and policemen and schools will get less money since I paid for my shoes in Bitcoin as opposed to GBP - which in my opinion, as the boring person who likes paying a bit of tax, is wrong.\n\nI get that at this time bitcoin isn't 'big' enough to make much difference to the tax world (correct me if i'm wrong here) but eventually when bitcoin kicks off, which I fully believe to happen sooner rather than later, countries will have to adapt - but for now, is what I'm saying correct in that bitcoin for goods is a way of that particular shop avoiding tax???\n\nWhere I live there is a very clever-ish, although unsuccessful at the moment, 'cryptocurrency' for Liverpool city called the [Liverpool Local Pound](https://www.colu.com/community/liverpool) , LLP, (although I used the term cryptocurrency lightly as there is no mining process like bitcoin and is essentially just an electronic currency same as PayPal, £1 GBP= £1LLP). They can only be used in independent local small businesses with the advantage that \"it means more money for the small businesses\". The 'extra' money to the business I'm assuming comes from the avoidance of paying tax, if my scenario above is correct... which I don't fully agree with (although I am all for going to local independent shops).\n\nAnyway, for those of you who are actually cool/lucky enough to use Bitcoin as a form of currency, is it just tax avoidance?
