body![Salah.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYvq5QN3a1eftA5HqYHwcKYGJBRFwPSo8jgsK3wZjwJbz/Salah.jpg) Liverpool are deservedly in the final of the Champions League, and are looking to win Europe’s biggest club competition for the 6th time in their history. Liverpool have impressed many supporters this season with their attacking displays of football both at home, and on the continent. On their day, Liverpool are capable of beating any team, and possess the likes of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Emre Can, and Sadio Mane in their talented front line. ![firmino.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZKUCS4jR7JrgDrAqCADEmpMWg5rHnmw5NbfQLMgZPyBE/firmino.jpg) With Liverpool making it to the Champions League final, and Mo Salah breaking Premier League goal scoring records, fans and pundits alike are queuing up to sing their praises. However, are Liverpool really as great a team as the media and supporters are making out? Are they a genuine European footballing power? Or are they having a good season albeit, punching slightly above their weight? First of all, no one can state that Liverpool are not one of the legendary clubs of European football history. Their record of trophies alone means that their status will always be that of a major football club. 18 domestic titles and 5 European Cups is something any supporter would be proud of. Not to mention the various domestic cups they have won in the past. But for the basis of this article, we are looking at Liverpool as a football club in their current form, and cover some of their recent campaigns, rather than dwell too much on the distant past. First we will look at Liverpool’s Premier League campaign for the season just ended. Liverpool finished in 4th place in the league, scoring 84 goals and conceding only 38 in the process. This gives them the second best goal scoring record in the league after Manchester City’s whopping 103 goals, and also gives them the joint fourth best defensive record, along with Chelsea, but not as good as the two Manchester clubs, and Tottenham. How did Liverpool fair when playing against their top 6 opponents? There is a mini league of the top 6 clubs which will illustrate how the biggest teams in England compare, when based purely on their form against each other. In this season’s mini league Liverpool finished 5th out of six, behind the two Manchester teams, Tottenham, and Chelsea, but above Arsenal. Their record in the mini league is scored 16, and conceded 21 goals. The second worst after Arsenal. Liverpool were applauded for being the first, and one of only two teams this season, to beat the runaway Champion Manchester City. But in their five games against top six opponents they won a total of ten points with only two wins and 4 draws. Beating Manchester City and smashing Arsenal 4-0 on the opening game of the season, accounting for the two wins. The second game against Arsenal resulted in a draw, and they also manged draws against Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester United, all of which were home games. If you look at the away form against top six clubs, Liverpool managed just one point out of a possible 15, with that point coming against the weakest team in the pack; Arsenal. The other games resulted in a 5-0 loss to Man City, a 2-1 loss to Man United, a 1-0 loss to Chelsea, and a 4-1 defeat at Spurs. With that in mind, it put into question Liverpool’s ability to beat the very best teams. Yes, they may well score four or five goals against inferior opposition, but when they play the big teams, it is clear that they struggle. But what about Liverpool’s European form? They are in the final after all, and any team that gets there surely deserves it on merit. That is correct, despite how you get there, you can only beat the teams that are put in front of you, and Liverpool are clearly in the final on merit. The two wins against Manchester City in the Quarter Final stage alone, gives them credibility. Over the two fixtures, manager Jurgen Klopp got the tactics spot on, and showed just how you beat a team like City. But what about the rest of their European campaign? Liverpool had possibly the best group they could have asked for. The opponents in the group stage were very weak, and the only surprise that came out of the group was that Liverpool didn’t top the group by more points. Their opponents in the group stage were NK Maribor (who?) Spartak Moscow (not exactly a team full of star players, and Sevilla, the seventh best team in the Spanish League based on this year’s table. Liverpool then played FC Porto in the first round of the knockouts. This is probably the worst Porto team in some time, and it is no surprise that Liverpool beat them convincingly. I would genuinely expect any team in the top 10 of the Premier League, to beat the current Porto team. Liverpool then of course did the double over Man City, which has to be the highlight of their season so far, and does deserve admiration and respect. City went into the game as heavy favourites, but got the tactics wrong, leaving them open to Liverpool’s counter attack. No complaints here. Liverpool deserved the win. Liverpool then went on to face Roma in the Semi Final where they won the first leg convincingly, but were very lucky to come through in the end following a Roma fightback in the second leg, where Roma were unlucky with some of the refereeing decisions given. ![roma.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSc39XgCrjBjRB3UsEwwq1PiWN3GUnc1a6shhgucBNT1K/roma.jpg) Roma are no minnows, having finished third in the Italian league this year, and having beat Barcelona in the quarter finals. However they were the best possible choice that Liverpool could have had at that stage, with the alternatives being Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich. Although Roma are a good team, able to beat big teams on their day, they are not in that elite category of teams feared across the continent. Chelsea for example were knocked out by Barcelona, and Spurs by Juventus. Both teams that have a higher status in Europe. If Liverpool go on to win the competition, it will be great for the Premier League, and the English game. They will also most likely be supported by most neutrals who do not want to see Real Madrid win it again after dominating for the past few years. As stated previously, if they do win the Champions League, then they will have deserved it as they will have beat every team put in front of them. My intention here is not to discredit their achievement, but rather to put some perspective on it. But whether Liverpool win it or not, you could argue that their season has been good, if not great. But the media, in England at least, seem to constantly suggest that Liverpool are this great team, and that they are a serious football power-house. The coverage of Liverpool in the newspapers, and on TV, and the praise they receive from pundits, is disproportional to their performances on the pitch. Once again, it is important to note Liverpool’s rich history, and the successes they have had in the past, and this could partly explain the fascination with the club. There is also the fact that Mo Salah has mesmerised fans up and down the country, with his performances for Liverpool this season, resulting in a golden boot, and record goal scoring campaign. But based on current, and recent form; where do Liverpool stand amongst the top six clubs? Well, on recent form this is easy, they are fourth. And as they say, the table doesn’t lie. But if you look over the past 5 seasons, or even the last ten seasons, then you would have to say that Liverpool are the sixth. Being a top six team is an achievement on it’ own, but why are Liverpool still seen by many to be a top two or three club. Again, we know the history of the club, but even based on recent form, it seems that everyone always expect Liverpool to do much better than they end up achieving. At the start of each season you will start to see the pundits in the media state their predictions for the season. Who will win the league, which team will get a Champions league spot etc. Every single year without fail, a large portion of these “experts” predict a Liverpool success, even when there is very little reason to think so. Why is this? Are people basing their opinions on past successes? Do they genuinely believe that Liverpool are going to surprise everyone? Or is it simply a case of the media being dominated by ex-Liverpool players, and fans? Most journalists are at the age where the Liverpool were the dominant team of their childhood era. Could this be the reason for the biases? ![Klopp.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdUr1pyXCt8nCsdR5KcCY72oFe48R55jMPujy83BbF6QU/Klopp.jpg) In the last ten years, United, City, Chelsea, and Arsenal have all been more successful than Liverpool. Whether you base it on trophies won, or final league positions. The closest team to Liverpool right now, and the team that is probably best to measure them against is Spurs. They are in a very similar position at the moment. Both are teams that are showing progress, are regularly competing with the bigger teams in English football, but both seem to fall short at the final hurdle. Historically, Liverpool are by far the bigger team, but what about in recent years? If you were new to football and were to believe the media hype, you would assume that Liverpool were currently the better team, or at least the more successful of the two in recent years. But this isn’t really the case; in the last 10 years Tottenham have finished above Liverpool 8 times, including 8 of the last 9 seasons. In that time Spurs have failed to win a trophy, where Liverpool have won one, albeit the League cup back in 2012. So what can Liverpool do to return to their glory years? Especially if they do not win the Champions League Final this month? It is not an easy task; the way money has come into the game, giving oil rich billionaire backed clubs a huge advantage, it is more difficult than ever for a team in Liverpool’s position to force their way back into the setup. They are however, doing the correct thing. The only thing they really can do, which is to attract all the top players they can get, without paying silly amounts. They have a great manager in Jurgen Klopp, who has brought stability to the club. They are purchasing top players, but only players that haven’t been snapped up by the big clubs yet, mostly young talented players. And when they do sell their best players, they are receiving the highest amount possible, and reinvesting in the next big thing. They are doing everything right, but they need to take baby steps. They don’t have the options available to Chelsea, Man City, and PSG, where they can take punts worth hundreds of millions, on players from all over the world. Liverpool were a great team in the past, but are currently a sleeping giant. They don’t however need the pressure and the hype which comes from the media. They are better left to keep quietly [progressing as they have been, and maybe then, the sleeping giant will awake. Photos by Getty Images

This gives them the second best goal scoring record in the league after Manchester City’s whopping 103 goals, and also gives them the joint fourth best defensive record, along with Chelsea, but not as good as the two Manchester clubs, and Tottenham.\n\nHow did Liverpool fair when playing against their top 6 opponents? There is a mini league of the top 6 clubs which will illustrate how the biggest teams in England compare, when based purely on their form against each other. \n\nIn this season’s mini league Liverpool finished 5th out of six, behind the two Manchester teams, Tottenham, and Chelsea, but above Arsenal. Their record in the mini league is scored 16, and conceded 21 goals. The second worst after Arsenal.\n\n\n\nLiverpool were applauded for being the first, and one of only two teams this season, to beat the runaway Champion Manchester City. But in their five games against top six opponents they won a total of ten points with only two wins and 4 draws.\n\nBeating Manchester City and smashing Arsenal 4-0 on the opening game of the season, accounting for the two wins. The second game against Arsenal resulted in a draw, and they also manged draws against Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester United, all of which were home games.\n\nIf you look at the away form against top six clubs, Liverpool managed just one point out of a possible 15, with that point coming against the weakest team in the pack; Arsenal.\n\nThe other games resulted in a 5-0 loss to Man City, a 2-1 loss to Man United, a 1-0 loss to Chelsea, and a 4-1 defeat at Spurs.\n\nWith that in mind, it put into question Liverpool’s ability to beat the very best teams. Yes, they may well score four or five goals against inferior opposition, but when they play the big teams, it is clear that they struggle.\n\nBut what about Liverpool’s European form? They are in the final after all, and any team that gets there surely deserves it on merit. That is correct, despite how you get there, you can only beat the teams that are put in front of you, and Liverpool are clearly in the final on merit.\n\nThe two wins against Manchester City in the Quarter Final stage alone, gives them credibility. Over the two fixtures, manager Jurgen Klopp got the tactics spot on, and showed just how you beat a team like City.\n\nBut what about the rest of their European campaign? Liverpool had possibly the best group they could have asked for. The opponents in the group stage were very weak, and the only surprise that came out of the group was that Liverpool didn’t top the group by more points.\n\nTheir opponents in the group stage were NK Maribor (who?) Spartak Moscow (not exactly a team full of star players, and Sevilla, the seventh best team in the Spanish League based on this year’s table.\n\nLiverpool then played FC Porto in the first round of the knockouts. This is probably the worst Porto team in some time, and it is no surprise that Liverpool beat them convincingly. I would genuinely expect any team in the top 10 of the Premier League, to beat the current Porto team.\n\nLiverpool then of course did the double over Man City, which has to be the highlight of their season so far, and does deserve admiration and respect. City went into the game as heavy favourites, but got the tactics wrong, leaving them open to Liverpool’s counter attack. No complaints here. Liverpool deserved the win.\n\nLiverpool then went on to face Roma in the Semi Final where they won the first leg convincingly, but were very lucky to come through in the end following a Roma fightback in the second leg, where Roma were unlucky with some of the refereeing decisions given.\n\n![roma.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSc39XgCrjBjRB3UsEwwq1PiWN3GUnc1a6shhgucBNT1K/roma.jpg)\n\nRoma are no minnows, having finished third in the Italian league this year, and having beat Barcelona in the quarter finals. However they were the best possible choice that Liverpool could have had at that stage, with the alternatives being Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich.\n\nAlthough Roma are a good team, able to beat big teams on their day, they are not in that elite category of teams feared across the continent. Chelsea for example were knocked out by Barcelona, and Spurs by Juventus. Both teams that have a higher status in Europe.\n\nIf Liverpool go on to win the competition, it will be great for the Premier League, and the English game. They will also most likely be supported by most neutrals who do not want to see Real Madrid win it again after dominating for the past few years.\n\nAs stated previously, if they do win the Champions League, then they will have deserved it as they will have beat every team put in front of them. My intention here is not to discredit their achievement, but rather to put some perspective on it.\n\nBut whether Liverpool win it or not, you could argue that their season has been good, if not great. But the media, in England at least, seem to constantly suggest that Liverpool are this great team, and that they are a serious football power-house. The coverage of Liverpool in the newspapers, and on TV, and the praise they receive from pundits, is disproportional to their performances on the pitch.\n\nOnce again, it is important to note Liverpool’s rich history, and the successes they have had in the past, and this could partly explain the fascination with the club.\n\nThere is also the fact that Mo Salah has mesmerised fans up and down the country, with his performances for Liverpool this season, resulting in a golden boot, and record goal scoring campaign.\n\nBut based on current, and recent form; where do Liverpool stand amongst the top six clubs? Well, on recent form this is easy, they are fourth. And as they say, the table doesn’t lie. But if you look over the past 5 seasons, or even the last ten seasons, then you would have to say that Liverpool are the sixth.\n\nBeing a top six team is an achievement on it’ own, but why are Liverpool still seen by many to be a top two or three club. Again, we know the history of the club, but even based on recent form, it seems that everyone always expect Liverpool to do much better than they end up achieving.\n\nAt the start of each season you will start to see the pundits in the media state their predictions for the season. Who will win the league, which team will get a Champions league spot etc. Every single year without fail, a large portion of these “experts” predict a Liverpool success, even when there is very little reason to think so.\n\nWhy is this? Are people basing their opinions on past successes? Do they genuinely believe that Liverpool are going to surprise everyone? Or is it simply a case of the media being dominated by ex-Liverpool players, and fans?\n\nMost journalists are at the age where the Liverpool were the dominant team of their childhood era. Could this be the reason for the biases?\n\n![Klopp.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdUr1pyXCt8nCsdR5KcCY72oFe48R55jMPujy83BbF6QU/Klopp.jpg)\n\nIn the last ten years, United, City, Chelsea, and Arsenal have all been more successful than Liverpool. Whether you base it on trophies won, or final league positions.\n\nThe closest team to Liverpool right now, and the team that is probably best to measure them against is Spurs. They are in a very similar position at the moment. Both are teams that are showing progress, are regularly competing with the bigger teams in English football, but both seem to fall short at the final hurdle.\n\nHistorically, Liverpool are by far the bigger team, but what about in recent years? If you were new to football and were to believe the media hype, you would assume that Liverpool were currently the better team, or at least the more successful of the two in recent years.\n\nBut this isn’t really the case; in the last 10 years Tottenham have finished above Liverpool 8 times, including 8 of the last 9 seasons. In that time Spurs have failed to win a trophy, where Liverpool have won one, albeit the League cup back in 2012.\n\nSo what can Liverpool do to return to their glory years? Especially if they do not win the Champions League Final this month? It is not an easy task; the way money has come into the game, giving oil rich billionaire backed clubs a huge advantage, it is more difficult than ever for a team in Liverpool’s position to force their way back into the setup.\n\nThey are however, doing the correct thing. The only thing they really can do, which is to attract all the top players they can get, without paying silly amounts. \n\nThey have a great manager in Jurgen Klopp, who has brought stability to the club. They are purchasing top players, but only players that haven’t been snapped up by the big clubs yet, mostly young talented players. And when they do sell their best players, they are receiving the highest amount possible, and reinvesting in the next big thing.\n\n\nThey are doing everything right, but they need to take baby steps. They don’t have the options available to Chelsea, Man City, and PSG, where they can take punts worth hundreds of millions, on players from all over the world.\n\nLiverpool were a great team in the past, but are currently a sleeping giant. They don’t however need the pressure and the hype which comes from the media. They are better left to keep quietly [progressing as they have been, and maybe then, the sleeping giant will awake.\n\nPhotos by Getty Images",

body![South-Korea-2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmT2JppDaDMA6cLX9zDQNrxD9TR2Wpc4yCFg7Mg36EK3P5/South-Korea-2.jpg) Over the last week or two we have been conducting interviews with overseas Spurs fans from around the world. We want to understand the level of support outside of England , and what it’s like to be a Tottenham fan living abroad. Today we meet with Won Soulchan, a Spurs fan from Seoul. OK to start off tell, us your name, and where you are from? Hello, my name is Won, Soulchan. I’m from Seoul, Korea and have lived the whole 22 years of my life here. Are you part of any supporters club, and if so, tell us a bit about it? I lead the South Korea supporters club. We started as an online community and this is still our dominant, and most popular way to share everything ‘Spurs’ related. For this reason, we function as a big online community rather than as a supporters club. How many members do you have? And do you meet often? We have 5,500 members in our online community but for our supporters club, we have 1,000 people. Like I said, we mostly function as an online spurs community. Here in Korea, we have 8-9 hours of time difference with UK. Therefore, it’s hard to pick a date and watch games together since we mostly have games late at night in Korean time. But, when we do have some great game time, we gather around and watch the game together. We order Korean chickens and beers for the group. Last time we watched the North London Derby with the Korean Gunners which we won with Kane’s header at Wembley. Where do you watch games? And how many people meet to watch? Unfortunately for us, we don’t have any Spurs pub in Korea, Therefore, we pick a place we can use to watch the game with some food and borrow it for the group. Participating fans are variable depending on how big the place we borrow is and how good the game time is. We usually make 30-40 people per game. Why Tottenham? How and why did you end up following Spurs? I am fascinated by how the team grows and gets better. The club is in a completely different place compared to where we were 10 years ago. I really enjoyed seeing them getting better without ‘Big Money’ like some of others clubs do, and stick with our way to success. We proved ourselves in every different way and only thing we need now is a trophy. Would you say that Spurs were a big club (in terms of support/fan base) in your part of the world? In Korea, we started to watch Premier League games after 2002 World Cup which took place in Korea and we accomplished 4th in the competition. After that, we had Ji-Sung Park who played at United and Young-Pyo Lee who played at Spurs. That’s when the fan base started to grow and United has the biggest fan base since they had Park at the team and won a lot of trophies. It is followed by Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Spurs. Even though we had Lee playing here, we were not the dominant team in terms of fan base. ![South-Korea.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSrzmwfeb4rfg5DE3trE4u3S6ZbMQUkuLa8Jxaa6sA3MQ/South-Korea.jpg) Is Tottenham’s profile growing in Korea? Absolutely. As you can easily guess the reason, the presence of Sonny in our team makes a lot of people pay attention to Spurs. Plus, the fact we are getting better every season is another good reason to follow Tottenham. But sadly, I think a lot of people are still all about Son, and not about the team. Therefore, many Koreans blame some of the other players at Spurs without any justified reasons. Of course, there are great fans joining our fan group and we consider it a good thing. Do you get to attend many live games? If so, how often? Oh well, for me, I’ve never been to the UK. But many members of our group share photos and experiences they have had at White Hart Lane or Wembley. Since we are on the other side of the world here, watching live games is on the bucket list for most of us. Do you have any sort of relationship with the club, and/or other supporters groups? Yes, we do. Before the start of this season, Son brought Walker, Wimmer, and Davies to Korea. I know two of them are gone already but the club and their sponsor, AIA, contacted us to bring our members to the airport. We shared good times there as you can see on the picture. Also, when we do gatherings, AIA support us and provide some Spurs goods for the group. Do you get many English Spurs fans visit Seoul? And if so, what is their response/reaction on seeing the local support? I have some English Spurs fans connecting me when they visit here and I try my best to help. But unfortunately, there are not many things that I can do. Our gathering requires a lot of options and we have some limitations so I haven’t had a chance to invite a local fan, but I’d love to see them come here. How would you describe Tottenham’s season so far? Are you happy with performances? Yes, I think we are on a good run. We have shown what we are capable of in the Champions League and we are currently 4th in league. Hopefully we can finish in top four or above, and win FA Cup. It’d be wonderful to see these young players getting the trophy they deserve. Which players have stood out for you the most this year? I want to pick Vertonghen. Toby has suffered an injury for a very long time and Sanchez has done a good job but he showed some mistakes in each game he played. Because of these reasons, Jan had to do a lot of work in defense, and he has showed a lot of class defending for the team. Are there any specific Tottenham players that are admired or particularly popular in your Korea? Son, of course. As I mentioned, for a lot of non-Spurs football fans, it’s all about Son. Other than Son, I think everybody admires Harry Kane. He is doing very well every season and personally I am a big fan of his. Hope he gets the golden boot again! How do you feel about the management of Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino took over? We call him ‘Godchettino.’ It’s kind of Korean trendy thing to put ‘god’ in front of someone who is doing a really good job in their field and I think he is one of them. Before he came here, we were unstable in many ways. Showed bad performance against teams like Liverpool and City and results were not consistent. Now, more often than not, most of the games are fun to watch. Also, we showed some very good performances against the world’s biggest teams, like against Real Madrid and Juventus. How do you think that the new stadium will affect the club? Positive. It’s always good to watch the photos of the new stadium building up. It will be a wonderful feeling to see Kane kick-off for the very first game at our new stadium. And finally, anything you want to say or add? I just want to say there are a lot of supporters on the other side of the world here in Korea. They might start to support the team because of Lee or Son, but we end up supporting ‘Tottenham’ as a team not only for a Korean player. Of course, it is great bonus while supporting Spurs and seeing Son doing very well at the team. Toby has suffered an injury for a very long time and Sanchez has done a good job but he showed some mistakes in each game he played. Because of these reasons, Jan had to do a lot of work in defense, and he has showed a lot of class defending for the team.\n\nAre there any specific Tottenham players that are admired or particularly popular in your Korea?\n\nSon, of course. As I mentioned, for a lot of non-Spurs football fans, it’s all about Son. Other than Son, I think everybody admires Harry Kane. He is doing very well every season and personally I am a big fan of his. Hope he gets the golden boot again!\n\nHow do you feel about the management of Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino took over?\n\nWe call him ‘Godchettino.’ It’s kind of Korean trendy thing to put ‘god’ in front of someone who is doing a really good job in their field and I think he is one of them. Before he came here, we were unstable in many ways. Showed bad performance against teams like Liverpool and City and results were not consistent. Now, more often than not, most of the games are fun to watch. Also, we showed some very good performances against the world’s biggest teams, like against Real Madrid and Juventus.\n\nHow do you think that the new stadium will affect the club?\n\nPositive. It’s always good to watch the photos of the new stadium building up. It will be a wonderful feeling to see Kane kick-off for the very first game at our new stadium.\n\nAnd finally, anything you want to say or add? \n\nI just want to say there are a lot of supporters on the other side of the world here in Korea. They might start to support the team because of Lee or Son, but we end up supporting ‘Tottenham’ as a team not only for a Korean player. Of course, it is great bonus while supporting Spurs and seeing Son doing very well at the team.\n\nDisclaimer – Content first appeared on another website of which I am the original content creator/author, and can be found here http://coyslife.com/2018/04/09/interviews-with-overseas-spurs-fans-south-korea/",

body![Brazil-Spurs-1.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmd4MPcYDazSUSPL4v161ZiX6avAh6boE3ekdZRhcVhzR5/Brazil-Spurs-1.jpg) In England we may have invented the beautiful game of football. But if there is one country that has truly shown the world how to play it, then it is Brazil. Supporters of all countries have been mesmerised over the years by the abundance of talent that Brazil has produced, including Pele, Ronaldo, Romario, Zico, Socrates, Jairzinho, Ronaldinho, and Neymar, to name only a few. Brazil is a geographically massive country, with a vast, and hugely diverse population, united by their love of the game. There is therefore perhaps no greater compliment to Tottenham than the knowledge that there is a growing fan base in Brazil, who are passionate about Spurs, and their support for the club To find out more, we meet with Diego, the President of the Official Tottenham Supporters Club of Brazil What is your name, and where are you from? Diego, I’m 32 years old and I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Are you part of a fan club, and if so, tell us a little bit about it? Yes, I am president of Brazil Spurs, we have fan clubs in different states of the country and the number of Tottenham fans is growing every day. We are a very active fan club where we frequently interact on social networks (facebook, instagram, twitter and whatsapp), we meet to watch Tottenham matches and also to play football matches between members How many members do you have? And do you meet often? In our online communities we have about 5,000 followers, but I believe that in Brazil there are approximately 2,000 fans which follow the club news daily. We meet once a month and for all games of great importance. ![Brazil-Spurs-2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmccPxagbEDFtDTFimDgvsNTSmSJcMWEncp9dv9Uk4kJeZ/Brazil-Spurs-2.jpg) Where do you watch games? In Rio de Janeiro we met at the Lord Jim Pub, in São Paulo they meet at the O’malleys Pub, and in Curitiba we met at the Salty Pub. Our country is immense geographically, so we also have meetings in other cities like Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Manaus and Recife. About 20-25 people meet at each location. Why Tottenham? How and why did you end up following Spurs? I followed the Premier League and I was fascinated by Tottenham’s history, the club’s rivalry with the other London teams, and the fact we could compete with teams even without having the same budget as the other clubs. Would you say that Spurs was a big club (in terms of support / fan base) in your part of the world? Yes, Tottenham fans in Brazil grew a lot with the arrival of Brazilians at the club like Gomes, Sandro, and Paulinho. We also had a great increase of fans with the performances of Gareth Bale in the UEFA Champions League. Is Tottenham’s profile growing in his part of the world? And if so, can you elaborate? Yes, Tottenham games are being broadcast more frequently in Brazil, the UEFA Champions League matches attract new fans and the arrival of Lucas Moura can still bring us many new members. Do you get to watch games live in Brazil? Yes, all Tottenham games are broadcast on TV, we watch all matches live. Do you have any type of relationship with the club and / or other supporters groups? Yes, we keep in touch with the club via e-mail, on social networks, and we have had online interviews in the past with players such as Chadli and Townsend. We are always present at the annual official fan event hosted by the club. Do you get a lot of English Spurs fans in Brazil? And if so, what is their response / reaction to seeing local support? Yes, we have a base of Englishmen who live in Rio de Janeiro and frequent the bars to watch the match with us. We also welcome English, American, Scottish and Australian tourists who cheer for Tottenham. All are well received well, and they really like our support. ![Brazil-Spurs-3.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSZJE1wef94ExPEsr9sVmRUCzPopogXoyCEyHvaU8GZvC/Brazil-Spurs-3.jpg) How would you describe Tottenham’s season so far? Are you happy with performances? Yes, I was worried at the start of this season after the moving from White Hart Lane, and feared the matches at Wembley. But we managed to improve our football during the season. We suffered a disappointment to be eliminated by Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, but I am sure we will return next season. We have the possibility to finish as winners of the FA Cup, which would be wonderful for fans and players. Which player has stood out the most for you this year? Heung Min Son; the Korean scored many vital goals, was decisive in important games and gave us many assists. Are there specific Tottenham players that are admired, or particularly popular in your Brazil? Yes, Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, and now Lucas Moura. How do you feel about Tottenham’s management since Mauricio Pochettino took over? Excellent, he has improved the ranks of young players coming through the club, brought players in that have become important, and helped them to grow with his management, and training. He knows how to manage the team well by giving everyone the opportunity to show their potential. Now we fight equally with any club in the Premier League and the World! How do you think the new stadium will affect the club? Wow, it will be a fantastic stadium, we are all eager to see it ready. I believe it will improve the club’s finances, and attract top players from all over the world. I look forward to celebrating great titles at the new stadium. What would you like to see from Tottenham moving forward, for the rest of this season and beyond? I hope that Tottenham will secure their place in the next Champions League, win the FA Cup, and hopefully in the future we can celebrate the Premier League title in our new stadium, it would be a dream come true. And finally, anything you would like to add? I want to thank you for the platform that you are giving to the official Spurs supporters club of Brazil, it is very nice to know a little more about our friends around the world. I hope our fans can further increase this interaction among Spurs supporters worldwide. We will always be together for Tottenham Hotspur! We want to understand the level of support outside of England , and what it’s like to be a Tottenham fan living abroad. Today we meet with Tolu, A Tottenam supporter from Lagos Ok to start off tell us your name, and where you are from? My name is Tolu Junaid. I am 46. From Lagos Nigeria, where I still live now. Are you part of any supporters club, and if so, tell us a bit about it? Yes I am part of the Nigeria Spurs Supporters Club. an official supporters club in Nigeria. We have been in existence informally since 2007, but became official in 2015. How many members do you have? And do you meet often? We have just over 150 members. We meet when we can to watch games as a group, or as individual members. Many of the members are in others states in Nigeria so as a larger group we meet 1-3 times a year. However we all constantly in touch on social media as we have a WhatsApp group which is extremely active every day!! Where do you watch games? And how many people meet to watch? We tend to meet in Lagos and decide location which is a bar or club. Typically between 2-40 members at a time. Like I mentioned, it depends on how many people can make the meetings. Supporters sometimes meet in smaller groups on match days Why Tottenham? How and why did you end up following spurs? In Nigeria in the 80s we kids followed football reading Roy of the Rovers, Tiger & Speed, and Tiger & Scorcher comics. In these comics you always had interviews and profiles of football players and in 1984 there was a profile of a Nigerian footballer called John Chidozie who joining Spurs and that was how I followed the team and became a supporter. Would you say that spurs were a big club (in terms of support/fan base) in your part of the world? No. not at all. In fact many other football fans always tell me (or others) that I am the first ever Spurs fan they have met. It’s understandable because most of the football fans in Nigeria are recent football followers due to the advent of satellite TV and younger guys that started following football in the 2000s. Is Tottenham’s profile growing in Nigeria? And if so, can you elaborate? Yes it’s growing as we now have quite a few younger Spurs followers in our supporters club and other football fans recognise our players and praise our team because of the improvements we have made on the pitch. Do you get to attend many live games? And if so, how often? Most of our members do when they happen to be in the UK. I attended a Spurs vs West Ham game live at White Hart Lane when i was last in London in 2013 ![Nigeria-Spurs-3.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbTfXCSFNXm3fE6fe3u7BzhLK1N9Te5jfkBRwJ4NePr7G/Nigeria-Spurs-3.jpg) Do you get many English spurs fans visit your area? And if so, what is their response/reaction on seeing the local support? That has happened once when a UK based journalist who is a Spurs supporter was in Nigeria. We had a few of our members take him out and watch a game together. How would you describe Tottenham’s season so far? Are you happy with performances? Well we expected it to be difficult but it has actually been a good season. However there is a noticeable feeling of slight disgruntlement. Why this is happening amongst our supporters is due to the relative success we have been having in the last couple of seasons under Pochettino. We are competing with the bigger teams despite all the financial odds against us however many of our fans feel we need a trophy pretty soon and we always just fail to achieve this at the crucial moment. For me as a fan, I know it’s tougher now with the mega bucks of other teams and I hope with the move to the new stadium, at some point we will be able to compete favourably. Which players have stood out for you the most this year? Player of the season for me – Jan Vertonghen. Eriksen, Alli, Son, and Kane typically always show their brilliance but Vertonghen has been our rock this season. Are there any specific Tottenham players that are admired or particularly popular in Nigeria? Yes Dele Alli (due to his Nigerian roots), Harry Kane, Heung min Son, Christian Eriksen, and Mousa Dembele How do you feel about the management of Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino took over? It’s been an upward trajectory ever since he came in and also because he has a good rapport with Daniel Levy we have significant stability which has obviously translated to good showing on the football field. ![Nigeria-Spurs-2 (1).jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUpWBbtTzgXCtZxCiDcahXKFso34iZRhH8eJ9r1JkCUQ2/Nigeria-Spurs-2%20(1).jpg) How do you think that the new stadium will affect the club? The positive will be more revenue which can be translated to improving the team. But the negative will be that we may have to pay back loans so Enic may not be able to invest in the team for a few years What would you like to see from Tottenham going forward, for the rest of this season and beyond? Business wise I think everything is fine for now. New stadium, more revenue streams in terms of ticket sales, stadium naming rights, kit sales, NFL 10 year contract, other sponsorship deals etc. In terms of the team, I feel Pochettino should use majority of his squad more. For example Kane was out for a while and during that time we played well. I sometimes feel the other lads like Eriksen, Son and Alli step up whenever Kane is out. Kane was rushed back in my opinion and since then we have suffered a major dip in form. He’s not fully fit to me and he needs a breather from time to time. Kane also does not have to play always. Being the golden boy of Spurs and England I feel there is particular pressure on him to play always. So in future we also need to invest in another striker of good calibre to be part of the team. We also have no choice but to improve our pay structure in order to attract better players. We actually have no choice here if we intend to compete and win trophies. And finally, anything you would like to add? Well I know we are disappointed with our FA cup and Champions League exits, however this season we felt was going to be tough has actually been very good at Wembley. We hope when we eventually move into the new stadium we will now have the strength to be able to compete with the bigger teams. COYS!!! In fact many other football fans always tell me (or others) that I am the first ever Spurs fan they have met. It’s understandable because most of the football fans in Nigeria are recent football followers due to the advent of satellite TV and younger guys that started following football in the 2000s.\n \nIs Tottenham’s profile growing in Nigeria? And if so, can you elaborate?\n\nYes it’s growing as we now have quite a few younger Spurs followers in our supporters club and other football fans recognise our players and praise our team because of the improvements we have made on the pitch.\n \nDo you get to attend many live games? And if so, how often?\n \nMost of our members do when they happen to be in the UK. I attended a Spurs vs West Ham game live at White Hart Lane when i was last in London in 2013\n\n![Nigeria-Spurs-3.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbTfXCSFNXm3fE6fe3u7BzhLK1N9Te5jfkBRwJ4NePr7G/Nigeria-Spurs-3.jpg)\n\nDo you get many English spurs fans visit your area? And if so, what is their response/reaction on seeing the local support?\n \nThat has happened once when a UK based journalist who is a Spurs supporter was in Nigeria. We had a few of our members take him out and watch a game together.\n\nHow would you describe Tottenham’s season so far? Are you happy with performances?\n \nWell we expected it to be difficult but it has actually been a good season. \n \nWhich players have stood out for you the most this year?\n \nPlayer of the season for me – Jan Vertonghen. Eriksen, Alli, Son, and Kane typically always show their brilliance but Vertonghen has been our rock this season.\n\nAre there any specific Tottenham players that are admired or particularly popular in Nigeria?\n \nYes Dele Alli (due to his Nigerian roots), Harry Kane, Heung min Son, Christian Eriksen, and Mousa Dembele\n \nHow do you feel about the management of Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino took over?\n \nIt’s been an upward trajectory ever since he came in and also because he has a good rapport with Daniel Levy we have significant stability which has obviously translated to good showing on the football field.\n\n![Nigeria-Spurs-2 (1).jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUpWBbtTzgXCtZxCiDcahXKFso34iZRhH8eJ9r1JkCUQ2/Nigeria-Spurs-2%20(1).jpg)\n \nHow do you think that the new stadium will affect the club?\n \nThe positive will be more revenue which can be translated to improving the team. \nBut the negative will be that we may have to pay back loans so Enic may not be able to invest in the team for a few years \n \nWhat would you like to see from Tottenham going forward, for the rest of this season and beyond?\n \nBusiness wise I think everything is fine for now. We actually have no choice here if we intend to compete and win trophies.\n \nAnd finally, anything you would like to add?\n \nWell I know we are disappointed with our FA cup and Champions League exits, however this season we felt was going to be tough has actually been very good at Wembley. We hope when we eventually move into the new stadium we will now have the strength to be able to compete with the bigger teams. body![Colorado-Spurs.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeg3rDZYASqT74oismV2QJHZZducrxcfNXLRsmwmnwCuM/Colorado-Spurs.jpg) Over the last week or two we have been conducting interviews with overseas Spurs fans from around the world. We want to understand the level of support outside of England, and what it’s like to be a Tottenham fan living abroad. Today we met Joe, a Spurs supporter living in Denver OK to start, tell us your name and where you are from? Joe Goebel, 38 years old from Simi Valley California. I have lived in Denver the past 11 years. Are you part of any supporters club, and if so, tell us a bit about it? The Colorado Spurs! We were formed about 5 years ago after realizing that we had to have a bank account and elections for positions in the supporters club! Only Daniel Levy! How many members do you have? And do you meet often? We have about a 100 members. We meet every weekend for the match and we get a decent crowd for mid-week matches. Where do you watch games? And how many people meet to watch? We watch at Esters Neighbourhood Pub in Denver. Depending on the match, about 40-50. Derby’s and other big matches we get close to 80 Why Tottenham? How and why did you end up following Spurs? I had no other choice! My half-brother’s dad and granddad were from Edmonton (brother’s dad was best friends with NBA’s Steve Nash’s dad growing up). My brother was born there and therefore our entirely family ended up supporting Spurs, including my other brother from my dad’s side, several of my friends and now fiancé…all massive Spurs fans. I’ve been supporting Spurs since I was 10, when I had to rush to the driveway of our home and fetch the LA Times and read the result in the back of the sports section. Would you say that Spurs were a big club (in terms of support/fan base) in the States? Not massive, but it’s caught on so much that if I’m wearing any kind of Spurs gear, I will have at least one person recognize it in public, so I guess that’s a big deal for us Yank supporters! Is Tottenham’s profile growing in America? And if so, can you elaborate? Yes, most definitely. First of all, we are on almost every week in a prime slot. Second, Spurs have done a fantastic job promoting the brand to US fans. Whether it be linking up with the NFL teams that go over, or continuously making the trek in the pre-season to the states. They try to hit different markets every time which is very smart. Say what you will about Daniel Levy and his wage structure or transfer policies, but the man knows how to market the brand and bring the most money and value to the club possible. Do you get to attend many live games? If so, how often? I’ve only been to five matches. The FA Cup at Craven Cottage last year (Kane hat trick), then Stoke the week after (Kane hat trick), a loss to the Saints the year before, the MLS game here in Denver and then the infamous taxi for Maicon match in 2010 (what a first match to attend!). Do you have any sort of relationship with the club, and/or other supporters groups? The club hooked us up with special privileges and access to the team when they were here for the MLS match in return for us setting up some cool events for all supporting clubs visiting that week. All Spurs clubs here in the states, and around the world for that matter have been so brilliant. We welcome any outsiders coming in with open arms. Usually send them home with one of our scarves as well. Do you get many English Spurs fans visit your area? And if so, what is their response/reaction on seeing the local support? Not a huge amount but when we do, the response is always the same…SHOCK. They are shocked at the level of our knowledge and the amount of supporters in such a small city. How would you describe Tottenham’s season so far? Are you happy with performances? Well, anyone from our supporters group would tell you that I am one of the more critical supporters. I think we’ve improved (I hate that moniker but I’ll use it anyway), but we have missed a few opportunities to give ourselves a huge boost for next season. Great accomplishments this season beating Madrid and holding our own v Juve but we did bottle the second leg v Juve and the semi in the FA Cup. I just feel like we have one of the best XI’s in the world and we need to start proving it instead of being okay with improving. Which players have stood out for you the most this year? Sonny has made another giant step this campaign and is one of the most underrated players in the world. Dembele has been sublime when healthy. Eriksen has really surprised me by keeping his level of performance consistent this season. I would say we’ve got one for the future in Sanchez as well. He’s so young and composed already. He reminds me so much of Ledley with his ability to make up ground, push a player off the ball and play from the back (him growing up as a midfielder helps). If you had my vote, Jan Vertonghen is our POTY. Are there any specific Tottenham players that are admired or particularly popular in your country? Kane of course. The young fans love Dele. The older fans admire Moose. Lamela splits the crowd. I tend to love and hate most players depending on the week. How do you feel about the management of Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino took over? Incredible what he’s done with the level of fitness. I hear that all comes down to Jesus Perez who is basically Poch’s bad cop. I love the camaraderie of the squad. I like that Poch is a players manager who they can trust. I think he has brought the club to a level that we haven’t seen since maybe the Bill Nich days. He’s trusted and brought in some of the young lads which is fantastic, but it’s something I’d like to see more. I do believe he’s one of the top managers in Europe but he will have to prove to me that he can stack up to the big boys in the big matches tactically on a consistent basis. All in all, I’m a massive fan of Poch and I tend to be a tad critical but he’s a great manager for the club. How do you think that the new stadium will affect the club? NFL deal is great, especially for marketing purposes. The stadium looks like it’s going to be top notch and over time will be a huge factor in revenue. I hope to God that it will help bring prosperous things to the surrounding areas as well. The stadium with the state of the art training ground should be a very big contributing factor to the recruitment of top players in Europe What would you like to see from Tottenham going forward, for the rest of this season and beyond? Play more young kids. I’d love to see players like KWP, CCV, Kazaiah, Reo get some real time in the domestic cups next season. Please for crying out loud up our wage structure. Do whatever you can to keep Kane including giving him some ownership when he’s retired (not kidding). Moussa Sissoko seems like a nice lad, but please sell him for whatever you can get, we just need to cut our losses Disclaimer – Content first appeared on another website of which I am the original content creator/author, and can be found here http://coyslife.com/2018/05/01/overseas-spurs-fans-colorado/

body![Hawking.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeJ9HKp9MECtz6x8UCcuFVp4rnuFfevzryA7FDn1LmniG/Hawking.jpg) The late Professor Stephen Hawking once famously held a party for Time Travellers, but only sent the invitations out after the party took place. Unsurprisingly, none showed up. The media are now reporting that the genius physicist’s family are to invite Time Travellers to his funeral. It is a funny story; however it does raise some genuine questions for those who have seriously considered the possibility of time travel. There has never been any solid proof of time travellers’, but if time travelling is achieved at some point in the future, then you would expect to see them all the time, at every historically important event. ![Hour Glass.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQBfzicDM2B9L42dMtZ7i95XGJPi59aTyWRFxm7ZvHywk/Hour%20Glass.jpg) There are, in my opinion, 5 possible reasons for why we don’t see them 1- Time travel is impossible and cannot physically be done 2- They don’t go back in the same timeline in order to preserve their own, so the universe splits into a duplicate identical earth with the same history up to the point of the jump 3- Similar to the above but the traveller jumps back to any possible number of almost identical parallel universes. So there are time travellers popping up all over the place, but the likelihood of them appearing in our particular universe is small when the possible number of universes are infinite 4- Time travel is possible in the future but they can only go back as far as the time that time travel was invented and no further. Hence we don’t see them in this pre-time travel age 5- Time travel goes on all the time right under our noses, but is so regulated and controlled in the future that very strict measures are in place to ensure they are not spotted. With future technology this should be easy for them to do without us noticing There are probably other possible reasons, and I would love to hear other people’s theories, however these are the only ones I can think of other than, they choose not to, which I would find unlikely. Or is it a case of point number one; that it is physically impossible to do so, and that no amount of technological improvement in the future will allow us to ever time travel?

bodyHi @jesusrosales I appreciate that the changes weren't that big in the grans scheme of things, and yes they should have had enough to win the game regardless. I suppose my point was that if you are going for that kind of record, then you should do absolutely everything in your power to achieve it, and that includes playing your best player. However, I agree that the attitude was wrong. This goes to show that even the best players in the world are only human. And it makes me appreciate them more in some ways, as it shows just how good they are when they make things look easy.

bodyHi @scotty84. I differ in some aspects, if we take a look there were the headlines, except for Messi, who is a crack, but the coutinho, Suarez, Dembele (which cost $ 105 million that can even be $ 140 million), Rakitic, Busquets , Iniesta, in other words, played the luxury team, except for Messi and the two defensive centrals, and yet Pique entered the game and even with him on the court each attack of the Levante was a goal opportunity. I believe that they failed in the attitude, they saw in their tie in the classic undefeated confirmed, left confident yesterday and lost a nice opportunity to make history. We will see what happens. Greetings Scotty.

bodyNo way on earth is Egypt getting to the semi final to the World Cup! I have a better chance of winning the Grand National on the back of a three legged Rocking Horse. Salah has been great this year, and fully deserves the credit he is being given. But we must be cautious not to over-hype him. This is the first time in his career that he has ever really done anything like this, and he will need to do it for consecutive seasons before we can start to really talk about him in the way we do with Europe's elite players. Having said that, he has been immense this year, and I do expect him to carry this form into next season.

bodyYou have to give credit to Newcastle, they have a good team there and have done so well considering they don't even have a proper striker. Credit has to be given to Benitez here. He has brought them up from the Championship, into the Premier League, and has done well with very little money to spend. Newcastle fans may be worried that they'll lose him to a bigger club, especially as a lot of high profile jobs will be available soon.

He has brought them up from the Championship, into the Premier League, and has done well with very little money to spend. Newcastle fans may be worried that they'll lose him to a bigger club, especially as a lot of high profile jobs will be available soon.",

bodyI don't know why they decided to rest players in this game, it's not as though they have much else to play for this season. Yes, they should have had the quality to beat this team regardless, but when you are after such a record, you should go all out to win the game.

bodyReal Madrid haven't been at their best domestically this year, but this performance shows that they still have the quality to roll teams over. However, Ronaldo has really carried the team at times this year, and helped to paper over some of the cracks that would otherwise be more evident. They really have to strengthen the squad in the summer and bring in some top players. Benzema has been useless for some time now, and Modric, although still world class, is getting on a bit in age. They should still be strong enough to see off Liverpool in the Champions League final, and if they win it then that would be a huge achievement considering how bad they have been at times this year. Not sure why Bale is often made the scapegoat by Real Madrid fans, as I think he has been very good since he joined them, but has just been quite unlucky with injuries.

bodyLiverpool have been great this year and deserve their top four place, and qualification for next years Champions League. It will be some achievement to win the final this year, as although the Real Madrid team is weaker than in recent years, they will still be favourites. Getting to the final though is fantastic for Liverpool, especially as they wouldn't have been expected to at the start of the season. However, they must be disappointed with the way that their league campaign has fizzled out a bit, and allowing Tottenham to overtake them into third place. They will have to be more consistent next year in order to mount a serious title challenge.

bodyThis was Arsenals first game this year that they have picked up points away from home. If they do not improve their squad very significantly over the summer, then I fear they will drop further away from the pack, and will really struggle to get back in amongst the top teams. Whoever replaces Arsene Wenger really has their work cut out for them.

bodyThis is quite possibly the best ever Premier League team. I'm not sure another team will get to 100 points for a very long time. City have been immense this year and are worthy Champions. The teams below them are going to have to really strengthen their squads in order to compete.
