We are the only occupants of the house. \n\nThe whole house seems to be undisturbed and the doors were locked whilst we went out and still locked when we returned. \n\nOur biggest concern is  **why** just these two items have gone. \n\nThey were in place yesterday but the shades only are missing. \n\nThe light bulbs are in place. \n\nWhy would someone enter a house remove a light bulb take off a lampshade then put the bulb back and repeat it in another room then go off with just them? \n\n![lampshade.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmc3DcsR1ZCVKrtwMNQJmFiRova7UpotkSbzwA9FUQCLL9/lampshade.jpg)\n\n\n\nWe are quite compos mentis and have questioned each other as to the possibility of hiding them and are certain this is not the case. \n\nWe live in a small housing estate of a dozen houses, in a small town in England with a very low level of crime, so maybe we have got a little lax from time to time.\n\nUntil today we would only lock our back door when we are both away from the house and when we go to bed.\n\nSo possibly someone came in during the evening whilst we watched television, crept upstairs took out the light bulb, unscrewed the lampshade fixing ring, removed the lampshade, put back the fixing ring and light bulb. Then went into a second bedroom and did the same there. \n\nThat's it. \n\nTook nothing else! crept back downstairs and left.\n\nWhen we went upstairs to bed was the first moment that we realised what had happened.\n\nIt is so bizarre, why take lampshades? Why leave behind cash, jewellery, credit cards, books etc.\n\nHas anyone any ideas.\n\nDo you know anyone else that's lost their lampshades?",

      "body": "![Christian.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmcDshuqdWm8eLbZa7DxuR4axKDAnFhnWPjZkqiWjS6uPD/Christian.png)\n\n**Reading the Bible is great**, but reading it in everyday language, I believe, helps put it into perspective.\n**Even better** is knowing the background of the writer and *understanding why* and to whom he was writing.\nSo these blogs, one for each of the New Testament Books hope to achieve just that by giving the background for each of the books of the New Testament as written in  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1600065945/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=1600065945&linkCode=as2&tag=liveto100ande-21&linkId=3662696c298b15f4cd86020a39cb23ed\">The Message.</a>\n\nI CORINTHIANS \nWhen people become Christians, they don't at the same moment become nice. This always comes as something of a surprise. Conversion to Christ and his ways doesn't automatically furnish a person with impeccable manners and suitable morals. \n\nThe people of Corinth had a reputation in the ancient world as an unruly, hard-drinking, sexually promiscuous bunch of people. When Paul arrived with the Message and many of them became believers in Jesus, they brought their reputations with them right into the church. \n\nPaul spent a year and a half with them as their pastor, going over the Message of the \"good news' in detail, showing them how to live out this new life of salvation and holiness as a community of believers. Then he went on his way to other towns and churches. \n\nSometime later Paul received a report from one of the Corinthian families that in his absence things had more or less fallen apart. He also received a letter from Corinth asking for help. Factions had developed, morals were in disrepair, worship had degenerated into a selfish grabbing for the supernatural. It was the kind of thing that might have been expected from Corinthians! \n\nPaul's first letter to the Corinthians is a classic of pastoral response: affectionate, firm, clear, and unswerving in the conviction that God among them, revealed in Jesus and present in his Holy Spirit, continued to be the central issue in their lives, regardless of how much of a mess they had made of things. Paul doesn't disown them as brother and sister Christians, doesn't throw them out because of their bad behavior, and doesn't fly into a tirade over their irresponsible ways. He takes it all more or less in stride, but also takes them by the hand and goes over all the old ground again, directing them in how to work all the glorious details of God's saving love into their love for one another. \n\n\n2 CORINTHIANS \nThe Corinthian Christians gave their founding pastor, Paul, more trouble than all his other churches put together. No sooner did Paul get one problem straightened out in Corinth than three more appeared. \n\nFor anyone operating under the naive presumption that joining a Christian church is a good way to meet all the best people and cultivate smooth social relations, a reading of Paul's Corinthian correspondence is the prescribed cure. But however much trouble the Corinthians were to each other and to Paul, they prove to be a cornucopia of blessings to us, for they triggered some of Paul's most profound and vigorous writing.\n\n The provocation for Paul's second letter to the Christians in Corinth was an attack on his leadership. In his first letter, though he wrote most kindly and sympathetically, he didn't mince words. He wrote with the confident authority of a pastor who understands the ways God's salvation works and the kind of community that comes into being as a result. At least some of what he wrote to them was hard to hear and hard to take. \n\nSo they bucked his authority—accused him of inconsistencies, impugned his motives, questioned his credentials. They didn't argue with what he had written; they simply denied his right to tell them what to do.\n\nAnd so Paul was forced to defend his leadership. After mopping up a few details left over from the first letter, he confronted the challenge, and in the process probed the very nature of leadership in a community of believers. \n\nBecause leadership is necessarily an exercise of authority, it easily shifts into an exercise of power. But the minute it does that, it begins to inflict damage on both the leader and the led. Paul, studying Jesus, had learned a kind of leadership in which he managed to stay out of the way so that the others could deal with God without having to go through him. Now a small handbag or a laptop case is the only free luggage.\n\nFor those of you unaware of Ryanair is a low-cost airline carrier. \nTheir approach to European flying is that as the journeys are usually no more than four hours, then treat it as a bus journey with no frills.\n\nThis is fine as long as you accept it for what it is. \n\nTheir advertised price to say Rome from London may well be as little as £19 [do your own conversion!]. But and it's a big but, that's just one way, if you want any luggage, or sit with your companions or even return to London it is all extra.\nBut hey, don't moan about it, if you don't like it, fly with another carrier or go by boat. \n\nIt is one of choice.\n\nThat simple phrase, \"it isn't so much what happens to you, it's how you deal with it.\"\n\nSo how do you deal with the mindless questions at airport check-in and security. Do you get stressed out when you are singled out to take your shoes off. What's your attitude when after being hassled to board the plane, and it just sits there for another 20 minutes.\n\nIf it wasn't for terrorist we wouldn't have these problem. I for one prefer the inconvenience to being blown up!\n<center>\n![flight queue.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaYo2GUHsQguMfDLkqr2FDntL7pHdbMsEy41BSbb4WKEm/flight%20queue.jpg)\n</center>\nIn the summer my wife and I went to Budapest, we were sitting in the airport lounge playing cards. A good way to relieve the boredom of waiting for your flight.\n\nWe suddenly heard an announcement that our flight was boarding and would the last passengers go to the gate. We had got so carried away that we forgot to check the boarding time.\nAnyway, we rushed up to the gate only to find a long queue still waiting to get on. \nWell, at least we enjoyed our card game for longer.\n\nThis is the time to start remembering “Is there anything I can do to change the situation? If Yes then do it straight away, if No, then sit back and let it sort itself out.” There is no point in getting all stressed out over things beyond your control.\nJust keep your blood pressure down and your stomach calm when faced with these circumstances that you have no control over. \n\n\n\nNow when we got to Budapest we needed a different currency. Our great stalwart £ is not used by other European countries so we had to get used to Euros. You over in the states are so fortunate that you can travel from coast to coast on your vacations using the same currency all the time.\nIt takes a bit of time but I tend to judge the finances of a country (is it cheaper/more expensive than England), by the price of beer! I usually do this before I leave home so that I know if it is going to be a cheap or expensive holiday.\nFortunately Budapest beer (whilst inferior to English Ale) was slightly cheaper so....\n\nI decided to write this because I have just read some reviews of the hotel we stayed in. Now we found it very good, with pleasant staff, a decent room and a good selection of food for breakfast. But the reviews, well here's a selection.\n\nAvoid this hotel. Terrible smell in the room. No aircon. Staff completely clueless. Hugely overpriced. I borrowed the only iron and ironing board in the hotel and risked electric shock from the iron and decapitation from the ironing board! \n~\nI was very disappointed. Very old fashioned rooms, artificial flowers everywhere, dirty carpet. The receptionist was very lazy and unhelpful. The waitresses the same. They charge too much for this quality. \n~\nWe stayed there in a group of 112 doctors travelling to East Europe for a conference. There were a huge amount of problems we faced..\n1. We people reached at around 10 in the night and it took the hotel 4 hrs to get everyone checked in, only to realize that there were no fans or AC's in the room. \n2. Reception person says kindly deposit all your passports here and we will give them back tomorrow. Only after a lot of discussion did he agree to scan them and give them back in the night only.\n3. Breakfast next day was very ordinary but services were horrible. Just to give an example, six boiled eggs would come at a time catering to 100 plus people and then you have to wait for 15 min. Everything would finish and take years to replenish.\n\nWE never had these problems. I'm sure there are people who wherever they go immediately try to find fault. They are not satisfied until they find something.\nOur aircon worked, had plenty of food at breakfast. It didn't matter that the wealthy pagan Romans didn't read it. Just as it doesn't matter today that most people today have little or no interest in the Bible.",

In modern parlance 'it's a best seller'.\n\n**Reading the Bible is great**, but reading it in everyday language, I believe, helps put it into perspective.\n**Even better** is knowing the background of the writer and *understanding why* and to whom he was writing.\nSo these blogs, one for each of the New Testament Books hope to achieve just that by giving the background for each of the books of the New Testament as written in  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1600065945/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=1600065945&linkCode=as2&tag=liveto100ande-21&linkId=3662696c298b15f4cd86020a39cb23ed\">The Message.</a>\n\n\n\n\n\nHere is how it is introduced in The Message.\n\n## ROMANS ##\nThe event that split history into \"before\" and \"after\" and changed the world took place about thirty years before Paul wrote this letter. The event—the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus—took place in a remote corner of the extensive Roman Empire: the province of Judea in Palestine. Hardly anyone noticed, certainly no one in busy and powerful Rome. \n\nAnd when this letter arrived in Rome, hardly anyone read it, certainly no one of influence. There was much to read in Rome — imperial decrees, exquisite poetry, finely crafted moral philosophy—and much of it was world-class. And yet in no time, as such things go, this letter left all those other writings in the dust. Paul's letter to the Romans has had a far larger impact on its readers than the volumes of all those Roman writers put together. \n\nThe quick rise of this letter to a peak of influence is extraordinary, written as it was by an obscure Roman citizen without connections. But when we read it for ourselves, we begin to realize that it is the letter itself that is truly extraordinary, and that no obscurity in writer or readers could have kept it obscure for long. \n\nThe letter to the Romans is a piece of exuberant and passionate thinking. This is the glorious life mind enlisted in the service of God. Paul takes the well-witnessed and devoutly believed fact of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth and thinks through its implications. How does it happen that in the death and resurrection of Jesus, world history took a new direction, and at the same moment the life of every man, woman, and child on the planet was eternally affected? What is God up to? What does it mean that Jesus \"saves\"? What's behind all this, and where is it going? \n\nThese are the questions that drive Paul's thinking. Paul's mind is supple and capacious.
