| title | Moving to become more aware |
| body | I have been training for more than a decade now. What I want to share with you is why. I never aspired to a certain physique, a particular size or strength however I would always feel this urge to train. Through out the years I dived into Tae Kwon Do, running, calisthenics, crossfit, olympic weightlifting and gymnastics. Over the last year it became more and more clear to me why I actually feel this need to keep on training. Training and moving are the processes by which I explore my physicality and through which I am learning how to use my body. What do I mean by that? Along the lines of training regularly I personally constantly discover areas and functionalities of my body that I have barely any or even no control over. By recognizing that I really didn’t know much about my body and how I can potentially use it, I became very attentive and observant. We all take our body and our ability to move for granted and I believe that is a big arrogant mistake. The act of walking is a complex activity that most people perform without even thinking about it. But you all might have experienced a situation where one of your legs was in compromised state. Now all of a sudden walking has become a different ball game. In my training and or practice I use exercises and movement as a magnifying glass to observe particular parts of my physical structure. I look at how my body behaves under certain circumstances and see whether that is the way I want it. If not, I try to voluntarily change the motion as detailed as possible. I’ll walk you through one example: The next time you perform any exercise instead of relying on your predetermined idea of what that exercise should do, take a step back and observe what you are perceiving. By perceiving I mean which muscle do you sense? Do sense them on both sides of your body equally? Can you perceive how your joint and bones are stacked? Are they unevenly positioned? Start observing while you are in a static position first. Once that becomes easy start “watching” yourself as you move. Once you become better at watching yourself as you move, you can start to try to change your movement voluntarily while you are observing. Now try to feel what alterations a slight change in movement potentially offers. You might be nothing less but astounded by the impact. Such an experience shows you on the one side how little aware you are but on that same note you can start to really grasp your own capabilities. Most people only maybe use 5 percent of the body’s capabilities and it is a shame not to explore more throughout one’s lifetime. There sure are many ways to become more aware, but I believe that the journey towards more awareness can only always start with internal observation. So start observing what ever you can internally observe. The outside world will never help you. In my case moving is the mean I use to become more aware. |

| body | We are impressed, inspired, and mesmerized when we see people in their fields of excellence. There’s a certain energy about it. Copying is a major learning strategy. Here is where we take a wrong turn. We are all inclined to falsely conclude from our experience of observing someone being brilliant and passionate in his profession that we should aspire to the same framework (Carreer, job, education etc.) in order to develop our own excellence! Yet we don’t understand that what we admire or even envy is not the framework but rather the level of excellence and the depth of understanding itself. So we ourselfs need to find and cultivate our own framework in which we can express our own majesty! There is no copy paste! |

| title | Habits and Compulsion |
| body | Habits and Compulsion “We are creatures of habit” has one phrase all of us most likely have heard before. I would rather say most of us are enslaved by their habits. Just to get things started here’s a definition of the term “habit”: A habit is, something that one does often and regularly, sometimes without knowing that one is doing it. (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/) Habits are parts of our everyday life and as such most habits are carried out almost unconsciously. Since they are such a subtle part of our lives problems usually arise when we either want introduce a new habit or when we want to get rid of one. We’ll be taking a look at where most of the problems come from when we want to get rid of an old habit. How do you get rid of a habit – you stop doing it. We all know that this is the only way really. But at the same time we see that just stopping a habit very often leads ta a relapse and doesn’t seem to be a sufficient enough process to break a deeper structure that underlies every habit. I think the relapse is always linked to the fact, that the habit is never consciously resolved. As long as we act habitually we rarely question that action or behaviour. So we don’t necessarily can explain why we do certain thing without thinking about it more in depth first. The good thing about trying to get rid of any habit is that all of a sudden thoughts start to arise about the particular habit you’re trying to get rid of. if you pay attention you will find that you have unconsciously made a case for why you do it. We will find that we always have a certain string of justifications behind each of our habits. These strings justifications always end in a positive affirmation. We all like to have a final positive argument to why we do things the way we do them even if the behaviour itself is damaging – think about a smoker, he or she will always have a reasoning not to quit. If we start to look closely we will find that almost always we are not attached to the actual action, but rather to all the concepts, thoughts and ideas that our mind has attached to set action. The string of justification also is a result of these concepts and ideas. Now, if we stop a certain habit, our mind starts to rebel and begins to form negative projections opposing our very own justification as to why we usually act this way. So your mind tries to trick you into continuing with the habit you’re trying to stop by suggesting how negatively the neglect of that habit will impact the future. To illustrate this idea let’s use an example: (It might be overly simplistic but it showcases well where the big problem with breaking habits lies.) I used to drink coffee for the longest time. And every morning it would be the first thing to brew my coffee. So I decided to stop having coffee and of course once I had the thought of no more coffee my mind started to argue in the following way: - I need my coffee to start the day well, - I need my coffee to be energetic, - There’s research that shows the health benefits of coffee. - I enjoy it, - It makes me feel good - and so on. Now if we look at the string of justification that my mind came up with – and right here I want to point out we are only making these justifications in front of yourself, because frankly nobody cares whether I drink coffee or not – I’ll simple invert these justifications and we’ll find all the negative projections and doubts that the mind will throw at us: - My day won’t start well, - I’m not going to be energetic - What about the health benefits? Am I going to neglect them? - What can I enjoy if there’s no coffee - I will not feel good then. Nothing wrong with coffee, but everything is wrong with our own ideas about it because you can clearly see how heavily entangled a cup of coffee is with our own conceptions about how it impacts our lives. Truth is that you are absorbed in the fairytale your mind built around a simple cup of hot black water. This is just a simple example but I believe it clearly illustrates what we are actually a prisoner of - which are the concepts and justifications our minds have created behind the things we do. Again it is important to see that our mind creates these structures for ourselves (and really for ourselves only) by which we are so easily imprisoned. Many of these prisons are real fortresses! What to do about it? Well there are tow steps that you need to take. First one you need to roll out all the justifications your mind wants to use to hinder you from dropping that particular habit. Once you can see all the arguments you have to chance to objectively observe them. You have to drop the justification and your mind’s negative projections and start observing when you go for the second step. Which is to stop the habit you are imprisoned by for a sufficient amount of time. You have to keep observing what happens as you don’t act out that habit. At the moment you stop the habit you have to be ready to objectively observe. If you can’t keep your old justifications aside, you can never observe how things actually are turning out. This is most likely the number one reason why people always fall back into old habits because they never truly drop there string of justification, step back and observe for a long enough time. So for my coffee story: I haven’t had coffee in weeks and none of the negative effects my mind would project happened. It feels more like there is one thing less in my life I need to worry about. The experiential knowledge liberates you from your habits or should I say form your compulsions. Sticking to the coffee story – experiencing that not having coffee doesn’t impact the quality of life at all is the real liberation. One more thing to consider: Depending on the habit there maybe some physical withdrawal symptoms. You just have to understand that this is simply your body. As much as your mind tried to convince you with negative projections not to drop that habit so does your body. Your physiology is accustomed to a certain level of caffeine, so now it needs to get used to not having it. Your body now rebels and wants to make you get that coffee. Here comes the thing you need to understand, or at least need to be aware about. The situation is as such: You have decided to stop drinking coffee and to drop all the nonsense justification you came up with as to why you have to drink it. On top of your mind now your body also annoys you with headaches because it wants that caffeine – and just to be clear your body wants caffeine and not coffee. Looking at it this way we can plainly see that either the mind, the body or both can potentially beat you into submission. My question to you is who is in charge? Your body, your mind or is it you? If you give in to your body’s desire, clearly you are not in charge! If you give in to your minds projections, clearly you are not in charge! Your body and your mind both should be directed by you. However most of the time we find it is the exact opposite and your mind or your body direct you. I am not saying that it is easy to break habits but at least you know who exactly you are submitting to. Compulsiveness always arises from being attached, so stripping away compulsiveness leads to liberation. |

| body | Who we are and what we have accumulated over time are two different things. When I say what ''we have accumulated'' I am not exclusively refering to material things but also all our experiences. However we mistake ourselves with the things and qualities we have gathered. We falsely identify at some point with all the things we have acquired. Let's use an example here. What has someone aquired when he or she graduates from Medical school? Knowledge, skills experience and a diploma. I think we can all agree on that. Then again knowledge, skills and experience are something different from you. It is YOUR knowledge, YOUR skills etc. It is not YOU. Now all the things you have gathered you can use. But in order to use something you don't have to identify with it. The more you identify yourself with the things you have accumulated the more you lose the real you. What ever you accumulate will always only be yours - it can never be you! Now, when we live identified with the qualities and things we have accumulated, we will never be ourselves. What will happen if all you’ve ever accumulated falls apart or ceases? You will still be there but all that was yours is gone. I guess we all prefer to mold ourselves into existing ways furthermore we like to identify with certain roles. Why? Because it is always easier to use or adopt a pre made structure and follow it instead of uncover one's own structure. We all should learn how to become ourselves. And no, neither your name, nor your job, nor your family, nor your friends, nor your diploma, not your status, not your bank balance are you. Understand the difference between you and yours! It is a dark path because nobody can shed a light for you there. But when you don't know darkness - you can never know light. |

| title | Identifying the underlying principles upon which we act! |
| body | What made me think about this concept more in depth was a boat ride to one of the island off the coast of Sabah. A profound sadness welled up as the boat passed loads of plastic trash floating on the ocean’s surface. Not just floating but trash being washed up ashore almost everywhere. I wanted to understand why the sight of pollution caused such sadness. I began to think about the usual slogans we constantly make use of and always push as an argument for stopping pollution. “We are harming nature!” or “We are destroying the planet!” When we look at these statements it is necessary to consider whether we are actually capable of the things we claim to be a good reason not to pollute the environment. Are we harming nature? Are we destroying the planet? Let’s dive into the idea of mankind harming nature and destroying the planet! I believe it is of the highest importance to dwell into such enormous ideas because they often need to be put into perspective. Only from the proper perspective can we actually derive an honest motive. “Planet” and “nature” are these words that are surrounded by a vast cloud of adjacent meanings to the individual. Let’s start out with the destruction of the planet. The first clarification I want to make here is that the destruction of the planet is NOT synonymous whit the annihilation of life! The planet had been spinning well without any form of life for at least 800 Million years as recent research suggests. What events or circumstances are necessary to destroy planet earth and I mean the planet! Two scenarios that come to mind are the collision with a celestial body of adequate size and a black hole? There maybe more but these events should clearly give you an idea about the magnitude of the event that is needed to in fact destroy the planet. So I guess we do not have the power to actually destroy the planet! And please any scenario that would involve people drilling to the earth's core and trying to blow it up from the inside, would just illustrate plain stupidity by destroying the very place we inhabit. What about harming Nature? When we leisurely speak about harming nature we thoroughly have to consider what nature is and how it can even be harmed. It is sure not today’s eco-system. I would define nature as a system or entity that can give rise to any form of live. Again some perspective is needed. The earth has been spinning for 4,6 Billion years and mankind has been around for about 2 Million years (homo habilis). Throughout these 4,6 billion years many different forms of life had roamed the earth under very different circumstances. We only know about most past forms of life that have inhabited our planet and of most present forms of life. Looking at the sheer variety of past species we should not claim that only the present circumstances are the best or the only under which existing or future forms of life can or cannot develop or thrive. Nature is not our eco-system. We almost always refer to nature synonymously as our current eco-system. I would state that our eco-system is nothing but the momentary expression of nature. Like the dinosaurs were an expression of nature at their time. Surely we are heavily influencing today’s eco-system by our acts of pollution but we are not harming nature, as a system that can give rise to any from of life. Nature’s ability to give rise to forms of life under the most hostile of circumstances is evident throughout the history of the planet and even today. We find life in the abysses of the world’s oceans, even in acidic pools and hot springs we find nature has manifested itself. When we look into Chernobyl we see that even our current eco system is capable of adapting to circumstances believed to be detrimental to life. In the still highly radiated area that poses a threat to people other forms of life are thriving. What events and circumstances can harm or destroy nature? I believe that only the actual destruction of the planet is how nature will go extinct. The other more mystical scenario would be nature itself (as an entity) leaving the planet – which would cause any form of life to end. After I came to these conclusions I needed to accept the fact that the destruction of the planet and an eradication of nature are two scenarios which I can never oppose. So why should we then care or stop polluting our eco-system? First and foremost, because we are a part of this eco-system. That very system in its current state is incredibly suitable for us humans to thrive in. We have no idea how well or if even we can adapt to changes we are inducing so recklessly. One thing to me seems for sure: Nature will easily adapt to what ever damage we inflict, enough time given. Let’s face it in these cosmic timeframes human history is nothing but a blink. 100.000 years from now all that exists today will be perished. To me finally nothing but deep respect for all other creatures and species is the reason and cause not to be reckless, not to dump trash, to care and to pick up some plastic bottles on a beach. That is as honest as it gets. This is the underlying principle I can always carry and act upon. I cannot safe the planet, but I sure can show my respect to Nature. How arrogant have we become to think that we could surpass Nature? - The delusion of grandeur is the hoax by which we fall - |

| title | Decisions & Actions |
| body | If you want your life to change, you have to act. Check out another episode of me rambling about stuff :). In all seriousness though every decision that we make is only as strong as the action we take to put it into reality. Decisions should never be based on circumstances but they should always be based on our own expectations. | title | Training Vlog #1 |
| body | Hey guys so here's my first Training Vlog for you. I'll upload one Training video weekly and share them with along with explainations and some insight I've gained over time about training and movement. So today I have footage of my Lowerbody session (sorry no warm up included - next time ;)). I'll outline how I go about my training sessions. Before I get into the actual training I'll warm up. 2 things I usually try to cover with my warm up. One: I pick a weakness like an underdeveloped structure or muscle and would do some remedial work to improve activation and integration of that particular structure or muscle. Right now I start every session with some rotator cuff work and some glute medius work. I'll post a video about that in the future. I would work on these two things regardless of whether I have a lower or upperbody session coming up. Two: I'll do two exercises that are very specific for the upcoming session. In this case I did some stretching for my calves and some back extensions on a GHD. Why the calves? Since squats were the first exercise of today's session I want to maximize mobility in the ankles. I use a seated calve raise machine to stretch out for 30 to 45 seconds right after the stretch I would do 20 to 30 bodyweight calve raises to activate the muscles. I just do one set. Next back extensions on a GHD for 3 sets for 8 reps. I'll do them to activate the posterior chain, and to stretch the hamstrings. Here's the workout! I started of with backsquats following this structure: 2 sets 5 reps - 70 kg (not in the video because that's just a further warm up) 2 sets 4 reps - 100 kg (these 2 sets should be reasonably heavy but not strain you) 2 sets 3 reps - 110 kg (these 2 sets should should challenge you but not to your limit) 2 sets 2 reps - 120 kg (the second rep on each set should be really tough) 2 sets 1 rep 130 kg (this will not be your maximum weight rather some weight you can handle with perfect form) After the Squats to finish the Session I did Snatch Deadlifts. These are fantastic for the Glutes and the Quads. I did: 2 sets 4 reps - 70 kg 2 sets 3 reps - 100 kg The Snatch Deadlift really forces you to maximise the use of your quads to drive the weight of the floor. You really need to pay attention on maintaining a stable hip. If you lose your hip position your hamstrings will turn on and that's something you want to avoid in this exercise. Next week I'll post an upperbody session. Until then enjoy your training :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqoYJUD0-GQ&t=5s |

| body | Here's a beautiful hearty dish you have to try Ingredients: 1 - 2 Plaintains, couple of Scallions, 1red Onion, 1-3 cloves of Garlic, 1-2 tablesponns of Vinegar (rice vinegar is a great choice), a beautiful piece of Beef, Salt and Pepper, Coconutoil. Maybe some coriander as garnish First things first. Take your meat out of the fridge 30 to 60 minutes prior to cooking. The meat will relax and will cook more evenly when it's at room temperature. Now steam the Plaintains. It's best if you just cut them into chunks. Don't bother peeling them at this stage. How to know when they are done? Simply use the tip of a knife to poke into the Plaintain. When you can smoothly draw the knife back out they should be nice and soft and ready. Take the out of your steamer and set aside. Chop up the garlic drizzle some salt on top and use the flatside of your knife's blade to grind the garlic down until it is almost a paste. Mix the Garlic with 1 - 2 tablespoons of Vinegar and set aside. Before the fun part begins dice the red onion and chop the scallions. Let's do the beef. Start a Frying Pan with some Coconutoil and wait until the pan is properly hot. Put the meat into the pan and it should sizzle away. If there's no sizzle take it out right away and wait fot the temperature to rise. If it is not hot enough the meat will boil instead of frying. Depending on the thickness of the meat anything from 1 to 4 miuntes each side could be needed. I like to flip the meats I cook more often than just once. To me it seems that this way the cooking process is more evenly distributed. Once the meat has reached the disired doneness take it out of the pan and let it rest. All the burnt bits remaining in the pan a little packets full of flavour. So don't scrape them away. Add a little bit of Coconut oil and the red onions to the pan an put it back on the stove. The Plaintains are cooled off and can now be peeled easily. Once peeled put them in into the hot pan and let them take some colour. Since they've been cooked already it's really just about getting some nice caramelisation on the chunks. After 90 seconds put in the Vinegar Garlic mixture. The liquid will now dissolve the little burnt bits an will start to form almost a sauce. turn off the heat and throw in the scallions and let everything come together. The meat is well rested and you can cut it without it losing any juices. To serve it up make a nice bed with the sweet and sour Plaintains. Put some slices of meat on top and garnish with some corinader. There you have it :) It's tasty a F+#*, it's healthy, it's colourful, it's easy to make and a pleasure to enjoy |
