| title | The Motley Fool 100 Index ETF |
| body | The Asset Management team of the Motley Fool has jumped into the ETF world and launched a new product called “The Motley Fool 100” (ticker: TMFC). The 25 year old company was founded by brothers Tom and David Gardner and is located in the DC suburb of Alexandria, VA. The fund will be listed on the CBOE ETF marketplace. The ETF will be a market-cap weighted index, which measures the performance of the 100 largest companies in the Motley Fool universe of stock picks centered around all of their services such as their flagship Stock Advisor, Rule Breakers, Hidden Gems, and the Million Dollar Portfolio. The chosen 100 are open buy recommendations from these services. Having been a member of the Stock Advisor, I bet that such core companies such as AAPL, AMZN, and NVDA will be part of the 100, as well as Netflix. Every company included in the index is incorporated and listed in the U.S. The Motley Fool has calculated the returns of the 100 as if it were open in 2007, and in 2017 for example, outperformed the S&P 500, 31.19% to 21.83%. In the sector breakdown of the 100 index, the Information Technology sector reigns supreme with a 47.1% weight, with Consumer Discretionary in 2nd with a weight of 19.4%. Healthcare, Financials, and Industrials round out the next 3 spots with a weight of 12.7%, 7.5%, and Industrials 4.6% respectively. From the Motley Fool, “At the Motley Fool, we are looking for the companies that are going to drive innovation for the next decade and beyond, which may explain the current overweighting of the index to the tech sector and underweighting to the other sectors, such as industrials and energy.” Here are some weightings of individual stocks in the Motley Fool 100: Apple: 8.2% Alphabet: 7.7% Microsoft: 6.8% Amazon: 6.5% Facebook: 5.1% The TMFC traded at $19.12 on 2/6/2018. |

| body | On February 6th, after hours, the media, entertainment, resorts, and studio giant of the Walt Disney Company announced its 1st Quarter 2018 Earnings. Here is how they fared with EPS and Revenue: Disney reported an adjusted EPS $1.89 EPS beating Wall Street’s expectation of $1.61. For the revenue side, Disney reported $15.35 billion vs an expected $15.45 billion, a slight miss. The recent GOP tax overhaul and other benefits contributed $1.6 billion to the adjusted earnings per share number. . The new ESPN Streaming Service The most interesting part of the call had to do with its embattled sports network of ESPN, where recently this year, they have been engaged in the political and controversial crosshairs of the NFL kneelers vs the National Anthem :”standers”. DIsney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger discussed the company’s ESPN Plus, the sports network’s first direct-to-consumer streaming service, that will price at $4.99 per month. Iger mentioned that they service will offer programming that is not available on the current channels. The target audience for this streaming service is for the ultimate sports fan, who will want more coverage than just the regular cable sports channels. In the November 2017 earnings call, Iger mentioned that it would charge substantially less than Netflix for streaming with their recent purchase of Hulu from its Fox acquisition as part of that strategy. Taking on Netflix Continuing its strategy to offer more direct to consumer streaming services, CEO Bob Iger discussed the streaming service in 2019 that will directly compete with Netflix, and will be substantially cheaper at $4.99 per month compared to the $12.99 a month. Starting in 2019, Disney will pull its movies and content from Netflix as the new service comes online. Disney already produces its own content with such powerhouse brands of Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, as well as Disney Channel favorites like Sofia the First and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. So, Disney will spend much less for new content. Netflix on the other hand has said it plans to spend up to $8 billion on content in 2018. The Next Great Marvel Movie: The Black Panther Disney’s next great movie will be another one from Marvel - The Black Panther, an African super-hero from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. Iger said during the earnings call that ticket presales for this movie are outpacing every other superhero movie ever made. Critics are loving the movie too, as the film has received a 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes as reported by Graeme McMillan. The movie will definitely be expected to contribute the Lion’s share of the Studios revenue as reported in April 2018. As reported by Gabrielle Russan from the Orlando Sentinel, Disney’s domestic theme parks and resorts jumped 6 percent in the first quarter that ended in December that exceeded analysts expectations. The Resorts division generated $5.2 billion in revenue, more than the $4.87 billion expected. From Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy, its Pandora World of Avatar at the Animal Kingdom helped bring record attendance to the Parks. Disney is a great company and a must add to any long term portfolio. Disney pays a dividend yield of 1.58% with the stock trading around $106. |

| title | What is the Classic Foolish Four? |
| body | What is the Foolish Four? The Foolish Four is a stock dividend strategy based on the Dogs of the Dow. This strategy and the unique twist from the regular Dogs of the Dow strategy was created by two legendary investors, Tom and David Gardner. These two brothers are the Founders of the company called, “The Motley Fool”, where they cater to individual investors to navigate through the stock market with Buy and Hold recommendations. Before we talk about the Foolish Four, we first must discuss the Dogs of the Dow where it is derived from. The Stock Buying and Dividend Return Strategy - The Dogs of the Dow, and Puppies Too The Dogs of the Dow is a systematic stock buying system, where an investor will take the ten of the thirty worst Dow Stocks, and invest an equal amount into each of the 10 stocks. The average returns of the Dogs of the Dow are 8.6% calculated all the way back from 2000(Source: DogsoftheDow.com). The investor updates the portfolio only once a year, replacing the new Dogs to the list and replacing them with the Dogs that do not qualify in the recalculation. Most investors will create and update their Dogs of the Dow portfolio on January 1st of every year. Michael Higgins created the Dogs of the Dow system. He had a derivative of the system, which uses only five of the stocks, called the “Small Dogs” or “Puppies” of the Dow. This derivation takes the five cheapest Dog stocks in terms of stock price, and the investor allocates in equal amounts into each stock. For example, if General Electric, Merck, Pzifer, Caterpillar, and Coca-Cola were this year’s puppies, you could allocate $1,000 to each of those stocks in a $5,000 stock portfolio. Mr. Higgins theorized that there is more volatility in smaller priced stocks, which could lead to more gains over the regular Dogs of the Dow. The Classic Foolish Four The Foolish Four uses the five Puppies for this strategy but with a slight twist. In theory, the puppy that is the cheapest, is usually the laggard of the group for good reasons, because they are struggling or underperforming. The Foolish Four ignores the worst Puppy and only uses the next four puppies. However, the Foolish Four will “double down” on Puppy #2, meaning that they money that was supposed to be allocated to the worst puppy, will go to Puppy #2. In the example below, Verizon(VZ) from the previous table, was removed and replaced by another investment into Pfizer(PFE). The Foolish Four is a great system to put some money to work, taking advantage of Dividend returns. This system is easy and mechanical, meaning you only have to maintain it only once a year. In the next installment of the Classic Foolish Four we will look at 2017’s Foolish Four, and Dogs of the Dow. |

| title | Aggressive Options Trading Going into this Volatile Week |
| body | The Dow and SPX keep hitting new highs. The stock market that has gone parabolic has gone even more parabolic. New retail money is coming in for Fear of Missing Out on this raging bull market. Big earnings announcements coming up with blue chip tech stock behemoths of AAPL, FB, BABA, and AMZN scheduled to report this week. Also, this week is coupled with the Federal Reserve meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, adding to a potential doozy of a week for volatility. My plan is to buy up weekly call options on the tech stocks that have upcoming earnings this week and try to scalp the rising implied volatility of the options. I will keep tight stops in case the stock market decides to dive. To hedge my tech stock earnings bets, I will have a Put Ratio Backspread on the QQQ or the XLK, depending on the bid/ask spreads of the At The Money options. For Example, with Facebook trading at $190, I will look to get into some 195 and 200 calls for the February 2nd expiration. I will keep tight loss stops, and look to exit when the options get a 20 to 30% profit. I like that Facebook is trading at $190, as a powerful bullish stock like Facebook will gravitate towards pinning at the $200 mark this week. This happened to BABA last week, and is now trading at over $203 a share. As for the QQQ hedge against a tech wreck early in the week, I will look to put on a Put Ratio Backspread. The beauty of the Put Ratio Backspread is that you can set this options strategy for a “credit”, so if QQQ also explodes to the upside, I will make money by keeping credit received. A sample trade of a QQQ Put Ratio Backspread: Sell 2 FEB 2018 172 Puts Buy 3 FEB 2018 169 Puts Credit: $84 Max Risk at Expiration: $516 If the QQQ continues its bullish run, I will make money with the credit. If the market tanks below my 169 strike, then I will make money on the trade. If I happened to keep this trade on through expiration, and it closes at the 169 strike, then I will realize the maximum risk(loss) of $516. I plan to open this or a similar trade(depends on the current stock price) on Monday morning, and close no later than Friday afternoon this week. As a general warning, don’t invest and trade money you can’t afford to lose. Additionally, have a trade plan and execute it properly. With the markets at all time highs again and again, a trader must be cautious as a big down day could occur to counter this amazing parabolic run. |

| title | The Federal Shutdown and the Bullish Unbalanced Iron Butterfly Options Trade |
| body | This week was an eventful week if you are a cryptocurrency trader or Bitcoin enthusiast. My thoughts and ideas that I have gathered in the past few days on the stock market, the climate in Washington DC, and Blockchain. Government Shutdown: The VIX and the stock market have no fear, barely moving to a possible shutdown on Friday VIX is still elevated, but will completely deflate when Washington agrees to a budget deal soon. As of late Friday night, Congress did not reach an agreement to fund the government, and as of this writing are both sides of the aisle are digging into their positions. I expect the Stock Markets to rocket up after any agreement, and I think it will happen either late Sunday night or sometime on Monday. The market always responds to news to the upside only, as in the last year, the Dow shot up after Fed meetings, unemployment jobs reports(good or bad), and Congressional Events such as December’s “Kick the Budget Deal to January” Bill and the landmark Tax Reform bill. Both sides will declare victory in the deal, and the market will continue to drive to Dow 30,000. Unbalanced Iron Butterfly Trade Since my prognosis is a quick resolution with the Dow Jones soaring soon after the news breaks, I will take a shot with a low risk bullish trade using the DIA ETF as my options instrument. The options strategy that I will deploy will be the Unbalanced Iron Butterfly. While the regular Iron Butterfly has two equal call and put credit spreads on each side, the Unbalanced Iron Butterfly has one side that has more risk than the other, skewing the bias to be bullish or bearish instead of a delta neutral trade. If setup correctly, the risk is only to the one side of the options trade(vs the regular Iron Butterfly, where the risk is to both sides if the stock goes wild). Here is my Unbalanced Iron Butterfly Trade opened on 1/19/2018: Call Credit Spread Sell 1 FEB 2018 259 Call Buy 1 FEB 2018 260 Call Put Credit Spread Sell 1 FEB 2018 259 Put Buy 1 FEB 2018 257 Put Total Credit of Spread: $1.25 Max Risk: $0.75 Days to Expiration: 28 The DIA has to close at the common strike of 259 on expiration(February 18th), to receive the maximum profit of $1.25. Some Notes on this trade: To Reduce the risk to one side, the credit of the spread must be greater than the width of the shorter spread. What’s that? For example, the Call side width is $1.00(260 minus 259), and the credit is $1.25. So, if Dow Jones takes off, I can still make $.25 on this trade. I will lose on this trade if the DIA closes below the 257 Strike. Trade in small lots, only risk what you are willing to lose. Trade Plan Loss Exit: If the trade, closes below the 257 strike, close the trade immediately and take the loss. Profit Exit: Look to take about 30% of the credit for profit, which is $1.25 x .30 = $.38. The Return would be the Profit/Max Risk, which calculates to be a 50%($.38/.75) return on max risk. I expect the Congress to finish their drama by Sunday night or Monday morning. However, in case of a prolonged fight, the options are good until the February 18th expiration day. Since I am a net seller of option premium, I benefit from Theta decay, as opposed to option buyers, who have decaying assets as it approaches expiration. Also, if the Dow Jones trades sideways(which is ideal), then my position is still good. |

| title | Kodak Rises from the Ashes with a Blockchain Project and Cryptocurrency |
| body | Eastman Kodak’s(KODK) stock price has jumped over 100% today, even after going up over 65% yesterday, hitting a high of $13.28, after opening up 2018 with a price of $3.10. Turns out that they are jumping on the Blockchain bandwagon, as announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. As a Gen Xer, I remember Kodak through having to buy film for my camera as a kid, and waiting for the film to get developed hoping my pictures turned out decent and that I didn’t accidentally close my eyes, ruining the “Kodak moment” that can never be repeated. I haven’t heard any significant news from Kodak in a very long time. I thought read that they went bankrupt, and assumed some big corporation bought the Kodak brand name, and buried it in a brand portfolio somewhere. Then, all of a sudden, Kodak stock shows up on Price Change alerts as they announced a breakthrough project concerning a blockchain project, and developing a cryptocurrency coin. It’s All About the Blockchain At the Las Vegas CES, Kodak announced they were introducing the KodakCoin, to be built on a decentralized blockchain platform called KodakOne. This blockchain platform will be used to distributed digital ledger to store and protect photographers owner rights to archived and new images and photographs. The cryptocurrency KodakCoin will be used as a payment system for photographers and image owners for their licensed work stored on the blockchain. While the purpose of this project is a noble cause for photographers and media agencies, doesn’t this functionality already work well with Shutterstock, Getty Images, and Flickr? These are centralized website cloud applications with website front ends, but why need a decentralized blockchain platform? Does the cost to build this improve the current image protection system for photographers and agencies? Also, KodakCoins add a process step for photographers to make a living. To make these coins useful for payment for photographers, it would need to be converted to either Bitcoin or U.S Dollars(or any fiat currency) to be practical. A possible benefit to being paid in KodakCoins would be if photographers and agencies can readily use this cryptocurrency to buy equipment or services from participating vendors and suppliers in the industry. Wall Street Welcomes Kodak Back The magic word for the marketing and public relations departments of public companies is “blockchain”, “Cryptocurrency”, or “Coin”. In recent months companies who either mention any of these words or go as far to add “Blockchain” to their company name will automatically receive a bid and a huge spike in the stock price. The best example is when the tea company, Long Island Iced Tea, announced that they will change their name to “Long Island Blockchain Corporation”, and they stock price of the company immediately jumped from $2.15 to a high of $9.49, well over 400%. In two days after announcing their latest blockchain project, Kodak’s stock went from $3.10 to a high of $13.28, but has pulled back to around $9.34 as day traders and investors have locked in some profits. Is Kodak worth the investment? At this time, No. We would need to hear more about the details, for example, the execution and process of how the photographers get paid or how a customer can review or buy images from the photographer through this blockchain system. Most importantly, what is the level of interest from the photographers and agencies? Is there a demand from these stakeholders? |

| title | FanDuel Jumps on the Cryptocurrency Bandwagon, Offers the "Bitcoin Bowl” |
| body | FanDuel, one of the two large Daily Fantasy Sports(DFS) betting sites where sports fans can try to win money playing daily games in the NFL, MLB, and NBA, is trying to ride the Cryptocurrency wave by offering the "Bitcoin Bowl" this weekend for the first round of the NFL playoffs. FanDuel will offer two contests for its customers, one that is a "Free" contest, and another that has a $3 per lineup entry fee. This $3 contest has a 150 maximum entry limit, meaning a single customer can enter in as many as 150 lineups. The Bitcoin Bowl contests cover the four NFL playoff games this weekend; Carolina at New Orleans, Atlanta at Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo at Jacksonville, and Tennessee at Kansas City. For those new to DFS and FanDuel, a DFS owner can build a lineup with a salary cap of $60,000. Each player has a salary value, and the sum of all the values must be below or equal to $60,000. A FanDuel lineup consists of one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, one tight end, one kicker, and a team defense. A lineup accumulates points based on each players statistical performance in their respective games, earning points for touchdowns, catches, yards, etc. The FanDuel users that have entries at the top of these contests will win the coveted Bitcoin prizes. Bitcoin Exploding into the Mainstream Bitcoin, built on the blockchain technology, is a digital currency(also called a cryptocurrency), that can be used as a store of value to exchange goods and services on a Peer to Peer, decentralized network. This cryptocurrency is not backed by a central bank or government. Bitcoin is not accepted by all vendors or banks, and it is slowly but surely gaining acceptance and usability. Mostly right now, it is a speculative asset, that recently in 2017 saw its price spike from the $900s per coin to its high of over $19,000 per coin. This explosion has minted many early adopters, speculators, and investors as Bitcoin millionaires, such as the Facebook-famed Winklevoss twins. FanDuel is riding the recent momentum of Bitcoin hitting the mainstream and social media. The Bitcoin Bowl Grand Prizes After you win the Bitcoin Bowl this weekend, you can dream of the color of the Lamborghini that you will order because you were genius enough to know that quarterback Cam Newton threw for 7 touchdowns. Unfortunately, the odds of winning will be very low. These contests can be very large. Both the Free Bitcoin Bowl and the $3 Bitcoin Bowl will each have up to 999,999 contest entries. So, your single free entry has to perform spectacularly against the other 999,999 greedy wanna-be Bitcoin token owners. Here are how the rewards stack up: "Free" Bitcoin Bowl: 1st Place Wins One Bitcoin $3 Bitcoin Bowl: 1st Place wins Two Bitcoins, 2nd Place wins a Half Bitcoin, and 3rd/4th Place wins a Quarter Bitcoin each If you like Fantasy Football, then I would recommend signing up for FanDuel and entering the Free contest. Why Not? The mobile app is pretty good and you can follow your lineups performance in real time as the games are playing. If you are feeling more confident in your NFL DFS or fantasy football skill set , then why not spend some money on a couple of lineups instead of spending it on that holiday Starbucks peppermint mocha latte? Conclusion Bitcoin could be an expensive fad that gets destroyed by government regulators or the next best investment asset class that will continue to mint new millioniares over the next decade. Bitcoin is very volatile and fascinating, especially for the Millennial generation, who trust the Cryptocurrency market more than the traditional stock market. As a new Cryptocurrency fan fascinated with Bitcoin, blockchain and AltCoins, as well as being an NFL Daily Fantasy junkie, I will definitely take the bait and enter a few contests in the Free and $3 games to try and win some Bitcoin. Although the odds are extremely low to win, you can't win without trying and the cheap thrill of having the chance to win some Bitcoin is worth my entertainment for this weekend while watching the NFL playoff games. Visit FanDuel.com and enter into the Bitcoin Bowl. If it’s successful enough, they may do it again the following week. |
