| title | Part 2- Guess what happened when I visited USA for the first time |
| body | Thanks for appreciating the first part, it indeed motivated me to continue with the second part. So let’s continue from where we left... The Flight Captain said “We are facing major Thunder storms and due to these storms the Chicago airport has been temporarily closed, we need to reroute to Detroit. We will update the landing time as we get close to the destination". All the passengers started frantically discussing on change of plan and how they will manage their commitments. Most of them were pissed off.. Some said "Chicago airport closes even if there are light showers". The flight time from Chicago to Detroit was around 1hr 20mins. We reached Detroit close to midnight. Detroit airport was not prepared for international immigration. The flight was not allowed to dock and connect to the ramp till clearance was provided. We had to sit in the flight for over an hour waiting for clearance. Announcement was made by the captain again, he said “Passengers bound to Chicago will be escorted by Coach to Chicago" most of the passengers frowned as they were not interested in the proposal. I was thrilled hearing the captain, wow we will be escorted by Coach. I thought “I have someone to speak to and Coach will help me". We received the clearance to dock after an hour. We all proceeded to immigration. My destination of Origin was Bangalore (India) so I was scrutinized more than others (Please read the part one for more clarity, why I was asked more questions). I was allowed to enter United States with only 12 days of I94 permit after fifteen - twenty minutes of questioning. Generally on business visa you get up till 6 months of stay in US. I was happy with 12 days as I would be flying back on 12th Day. Once we got into the terminal, everyone was looking for baggage carousel. I asked few of my co passengers if they knew where we could find the carousel. Most of them said no as they were new to this airport. We managed to find it after spending some time searching for it. All the confusions start’s from this point ;). I collected by bag and had no clue where to go. All the passengers had dispersed by then. I went to ground floor (In India ground floor is called - Zero floor, in USA it is refereed as level 1).. This was the first confusion. Every time I would check with others if I am on ground floor, they will tell yes level one and I would think I am on 1st floor and need to go one floor down lol). I met an African American housekeeping lady , she was mopping the floor. I asked her “where can I meet my coach?" She said " Whattttt". I asked here again “Where can I meet and speak to the Coach" She looked very puzzled. She asked me “Do you want to speak to driver of the Coach". I was happy to know that I would be helped by driver and the Coach :). I told her “yes I would like to speak to driver & Coach". She asked me “where did you come from in a very sarcastic way ". I said “I came from London on British airways". She said “Go to level 4 and speak to British Airways Staff" I said “Thanks to her" and continued to level 4. On level 4 there was huge queue waiting for guidance from BA staff. I joined the queue; the man standing in front of me looked like Indian so I confidently asked him “did you happen to speak to the coach?” He dint give any response so I asked the question again. He looked back at me and said “Coach means Bus in United states”, second time I was embarrassed in last twenty four hours. The British airways staffs were giving out vouchers for best western inn and shuttle. They were asking everyone to collect the vouchers and call 1800 British airways and find the time for next available flight to our final destination. I dint have cellular connectivity in USA. Was getting really nervous on how I would be able to call them. Looks like God heard my prayers. One of the Gentle man in the queue said " I from Ukraine.. No English". The staff asked him "you don't know English” .. He repeated “No English". The staff asked him to proceed to the booking counter and collect his final destination boarding pass. This gave me the brilliant idea, when I got my turn, I said " No English ;)". The staff asked me again “you don't speak English". I just nodded my head in typical Indian style. She asked me to proceed to counter to collect my final destination boarding pass. The staff on the counter was quite pissed off, she was asked to work overtime and was cursing us (Ukrainian N me) but she did help us with our final destination boarding pass. It took her some time to get the passes printed. Denver flight was at 7:45AM in the morning. It was 2am so I had close to 4 hours to rest and be back in the airport. We proceeded to exit the airport and catch the shuttle as instructed. We could not find the shuttle outside the airport. We asked one of the guards standing there about the shuttle, he said (.....)... I will continue remaining story in part 3. Few questions to readers: 1) What did the Guard say? 2) Did i manage to go to the hotel? 3) Did I spend the night in the airport? |

| body | First of all Welcome to steemit! I am here for a few days only as well and I am still discovering everything! I have read through a bunch of texts of other people and really like the vibes of this platform! I really enjoyed your story and am impressed by the amount of countries you have already visited - I am definitely looking forward to hearing more stories!! I like the fact that you didn't finish your story and asks questions :) it feels just like being back in school in creative lessons or so... my answers: (1) the captain told you that you couldn't land in Chicago because of bad weather and that you had to fly back to another city were you were authorized to land? (worst case scenario - of course I would wish something else to have happened) (2) In this case you would not have landed in Chicago but instead in another city. (3) I guess in the end you did reach the United States, but the question is when you reached it...right? I am excited about the second part of your story!! Keep in writing these nice stories and good luck! |

| title | Guess what happened when I visited USA for the first time - Part 1 |
| body | All my friends have been asking for long time to pen down all my travel experiences across the globe and I would always tell them, will write it when I get old. I have visited more than 40 countries in my life and plan to write about all of them. The first one in the list is “My visit to United states of America". Generally it takes around 20 hours to reach United States from Bangalore (India). It took me forever. Did I finally reach my destination? Crazy circumstances I had to deal with to reach my final destination. How does ignorance play major role in ones travel? Do strangers really help unknown people from other countries? Do cultural differences between eastern and western countries become barrier? To know the answers read my journey blog. I can guarantee one thing. At the end of the reading you will laugh. You might cry and you might also learn some amazing human values. 10th Nov 2006, it was my first international travel. Journey from Bangalore (India) to Denver (US) via London, flying British Airlines. I was getting ready to catch the cab for airport, that’s when I heard breaking news on our local TV channel “Five south Indian airports threatened by some terrorist organization. Bangalore was one of them “.. I thought to myself” what a start to my first international journey”. Reached airport around mid-night, as expected the security was crazyyyy..They were checking every piece of baggage and if you are traveling to United States they would check every item in the bag. I finally managed to complete the security drill after long wait in the queue. British Airways staffs were nice and courteous. The flight was overbooked so some of the passengers were put on standby this created some confusion but all the issues were sorted out and some of the lucky ones got upgraded to Business class. Flight took off on scheduled time. I was relieved, I had only one hour of connecting time in London. Moving from one terminal in Heathrow to other would take anywhere between 30-45mins so I had only 15 extra mins. When I boarded the flight I had no clue on all adventures I would end up having in this journey ;). Journey from Bangalore to London was relatively smooth. The food served by the airlines was good. I was delighted to know that we would reach 10mins ahead of time. We were 5 mins away from landing and there was an announcement from the cockpit “This is your captain speaking, we have a small issue. An UFO has been seen on the run way, we don’t have the permission to land. We will be circling the Heathrow airport till we get a go ahead”. I was all excited to hear this; I had never seen an UFO in my life. I kept on looking out of the window to check if could see any UFO on the runway or anywhere in that area with my Camera to shoot a picture. I could not see any. We were hovering over the Heathrow airport for more than 45mins. I was getting nervous and anxious about my connecting flight. Finally we received go ahead for landing. It was too late by the time I could get off the flight and get into the airport, my flight to Denver was on the runway. All the passengers who missed their connecting flights were asked to reach out to the customer support team. When we were waiting at the customer support counter, I checked with other passengers from my flight if they were able to see the UFO. One of the frequent flier said “Any object other than planes on the run way are referred as UFO; it does not mean alien carrier lol”. It was embarrassing but I learnt something new on that day. Customer support confirmed that they don’t have any flights flying to Denver on that day. They gave me choice of waiting one day in London airport or I could take flight to Chicago and from there to Denver. I chose the second option as it would make me reach my destination earlier. Layover in London airport was 2-3hrs. I was sitting next to a phone booth and an elderly lady was struggling to call India. She dint remember the country code. I offered to help her and dialed the Indian number for her. She came to me after speaking to her friend and said “Thanks for your help; you can call India by using my calling card”. I was very thankful to her as I could tell my parents that I have missed my flight and would take longer to reach Denver. I was delighted to hear, the elderly lady was also traveling from Bangalore to Denver. We boarded the flight to Chicago. The flight time was approximately 10Hrs. The flight was relatively calm when we took off from London but all of it changed when we over the Atlantic Ocean, we had some crazy bouts of turbulence. We were asked to tie the seat belt. The lady sitting next to me kept on shouting “Jesus Christ save us” and the funniest question she asked me “do you know how to swim?” I said, “yes, I know swimming but don’t worry we will be fine”. After few hours of turbulence it settled down and the flight was normal. We were just 4 miles away from Chicago airport and flight attendants were preparing for landing in next five to six minutes, all of a sudden captain voice echoed in cabin. He said in a very serious tone “…..” I will continue it in my next blog “Guess what happened when I visited USA for the first time - Part 2” Please share your comments; this is my first attempt at blogging. Any constructive feedback is most welcome. Try to guess:) 1) What announcement did captain make? 2) Did we land in Chicago? 3) Was I able to reach United States or no? |

| body | All my friends have been asking for long time to pen down all my travel experiences across the globe and I would always tell them, will write it when I get old. 10th Nov 2006, it was my first international travel. | body | All my friends have been asking for long time to pen down all my travel experiences across the globe and I would always tell them, will write it when I get old. I have visited more than 40 countries in my life and plan to write about all of them. So the first one in the list is “My visit to United states of America". |

"body": "\n\n\n\nAll my friends have been asking for long time to pen down all my travel experiences across the globe and I would always tell them, will write it when I get old. I have visited more than 40 countries in my life and plan to write about all of them. So the first one in the list is “My visit to United states of America\".\n\nGenerally it takes around 20 hours to reach United States from Bangalore (India). \n\n10th Nov 2006, it was my first international travel. \n\nBritish Airways staffs were nice and courteous. The flight was overbooked so some of the passengers were put on standby this created some confusion but all the issues were sorted out and some of the lucky ones got upgraded to Business class. \n\nFlight took off on scheduled time. I was relieved, I had only one hour of connecting time in London. Moving from one terminal in Heathrow to other would take anywhere between 30-45mins so I had only 15 extra mins. When I boarded the flight I had no clue on all adventures I would end up having in this journey ;).\n\nJourney from Bangalore to London was relatively smooth. \n\n\n\n\nIt was too late by the time I could get off the flight and get into the airport, my flight to Denver was on the runway. All the passengers who missed their connecting flights were asked to reach out to the customer support team.\n\nWhen we were waiting at the customer support counter, I checked with other passengers from my flight if they were able to see the UFO. \n\nLayover in London airport was 2-3hrs. \n\nWe boarded the flight to Chicago. He said in a very serious tone “…..”\nI will continue it in my next blog “Guess what happened when I visited USA for the first time - Part 2”\n\nPlease share your comments; this is my first attempt at blogging. Any constructive feedback is most welcome.\nTry to guess:)\n1) What announcement did captain make?\n2) Did we land in Chicago?\n3) Was I able to reach United States or no?",
