      "body": "**Place where medieval meets modern. Tallinn is the capital and the largest city of Estonia and a part of Baltic states. But because of being a part of Denmark from 13th until even the 17th century, most people associate Estonia with Scandinavian countries, not Baltic states. Also, the name of Tallinn (in Estonian – taani linn) means ‘’Danish town’’. Because of all Scandinavian and Baltic connections, Tallinn is having unique city style and atmosphere. Tallinn has managed to maintain architectural treasures from the 13th century and the Old Town is also included in UNESCO World Heritage. The Old Town is set on a hill where the most important Estonian buildings are standing till nowadays.\n\nFor tourists, Tallinn’s historic center is a dream! Even after the wars most of the buildings were reconstructed. You have tiny streets, cute cafes and restaurants, colorful houses, Gothic architecture, and viewing platforms. But the best part of Tallinn is a medieval atmosphere! I have never felt it somewhere so strong as here and not only because of buildings or architecture! In Tallinn, you can meet men dressed as knights, the medieval-themed restaurants, small paved streets, and plenty of interesting souvenir shops. Yes, that’s the Old Town of Tallinn. And why the best in Baltic states? One or two days walking without a map, looking around, exploring, learning and getting lost in the Old Town is all that you need, believe me! Every street, house door, and the architectural element is so special, that I just can’t write it all here. It’s not possible! Only by exploring you can get to know this city closer.\n\nI have visited Tallinn 3 times and all those 3 times I was very exciting exploring this city again and again. I explored Old Town inside and outside, I took a walk along the sea coast and always returned to the places I liked. Places, that are always fascinating to me. And also I found some places that are especially special! Places, that you can’t be missed! And here they are:\n\n## Tallinn Town Hall\nIt’s one of the oldest Gothic-style city halls in North-Europe. Its story begins in the 13th century but even till today Town Hall plays a very important role. It’s a place for different cafes and restaurants, medieval festivals, open-air concerts, fairs, Christmas markets and more! In every time of the year, you can find here something special!\n\n## Alexander Nevsky Cathedral\nIt’s a huge and very richly decorated Russian Orthodox church. It was designed in mixed historicist styles and maybe that’s why it looks more impressive than other Russian churches?! I don’t know that, but I know, that this building is so huge, that if you don’t have a drone, it will be a problem to get all this cathedral in your photo. Maybe a lot of people will say that it’s nothing special, but for me seeing this in life is very impressive! It looks like a gigantic gate to another world where are like thousands of tiny shops and cafes and in the end a beautiful church. Even going through those gates makes you feel like going through centuries. They provide excellent views to red roofs, churches, Old Town towers, medieval walls of Tallinn, the port and even the Gulf of Finland. Tallinn is a big city with a lot of attractions for adults and children, for single ones and families.\n\nFor a great, long and interesting walk not so far away from the Old Town I can recommend Tallinn Port and Linnahall. I am sure that you know what means Tallinn Port, but what is Linnahall? Originally it means V.I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sports. It’s an abandoned the Soviet Union amphitheater. Locals and tourists enjoy this place not only for a walk but also because of the view of the surrounding city and awareness of existing ghost building under their feet.\n\nOnly 4km away from the Old Town of Tallinn you can visit Kadriorg Park with Kadriorg Art Museum and Swan Pond. That’s a very beautiful place, especially in spring and summer when the Kadriorg Park is green and full with colorful flowers but in Swan Pond swims small swans! Kadriorg Park with its buildings and elements is the most outstanding park in Estonia. It’s a sculpture that was made in memorial those who lost their lives at the Gulf of Finland in Russland vessel called Russalka. But right behind the memorial is 2km long Pirita-Promenade. But for a little bit more extreme feelings you can go up to 314 meters high Tallinn TV Tower. I have my favorite medieval restaurant and a bar in an unusual style!\n\n## Olde Hansa\nThe first time when I found this medieval restaurant was very unexpected. I even didn’t know about its existence. Me and my travel friends, we took a walk through Old Town of Tallinn to find someplace for a dinner. From the edge of some street, our attention attracted 2 women, dressed in some strange clothes… like in old dresses… they came to us very friendly and gave for each of us a coin. ‘’It’s a magical medieval coin! Show them inside and get a free welcome drink!’’, they said. Haha, you don’t need to ask us twice! After a few seconds, we were inside in Olde Hansa restaurant searching for the best table for 4 persons.\n\nInside the restaurant, I was totally shocked (positively shocked) how medieval everything was made! Wooden tables and chairs, clay dishes, menu in old font and with strange food names, waiters in medieval clothes, all over only candlelight and medieval music in the background! It feels so realistic that even when I wanted to order whiskey with coke, the waiter looked to me and very surprised answered: ‘’Coke? What’s that? We don’t have such a drink. We are in medieval!’’. Service in Olde Hansa is very good, friendly and helpful. You can joke with them, have fun and feel like in the 15th century. Labor is a unique bar in the Old Town of Tallinn. As the name already says (in English – lab/laboratory) it’s stylized with a laboratory theme! In the menu, you will find the craziest drinks ever but drink you will from the test-tubes! In the background always sounds some good music and plays neon lights. I have never seen so great bar somewhere else! It’s unique! And there is also Happy Hours! The average temperature in summer is only about +20 degrees, but in winter about –10 degrees, but it can very easily reach a higher cold temperature. With this, I want to say you, that Tallinn is not for 2 weeks long sunbathing by the sea! No! Tallinn is for long walks, warm restaurants, new culture and medieval time exploring. In what kind of month or whether you are doing that all – it’s not so important. It only depends on your wishes!\n\nI have visited Tallinn once in spring and twice in winter (in January and in December, on Christmas time). I know that I would definitely return again in the Christmas time! Have you ever seen a medieval architecture in the snow? Have you ever walk outside so long in winter, that you don’t feel your fingers anymore and you go into some small street cellar-restaurant with medieval music and candle lights? In Tallinn, you can meet the present and past, see the history and feel the medieval atmosphere, try new tastes and experiences. Tallinn is the best weekend getaway ever! I have been there already 3 times and I will go there again and again.       "title": "TOP 7 TOWNS WORTH TO VISIT IN LATVIA + SURVEY",
      "body": "**Together in Latvia, you can find 9 cities and 67 towns. That makes 76 beautiful places to visit! But as we know, in ordinary vacation (1 – 2 week) we don’t want to rush and visit all 76 towns. Luckily I have visited more than 60 (!!!) towns. And in every town or city, I spent not less than 2 days. In some – even a month or more. Incredible, right?! And this experience I want to share with you, my dear reader!**\n\n**I found on the internet a lot of blog posts where bloggers talk about best or most beautiful towns in Latvia but unfortunately, not all of them have really visited these places. So I decided not only to make an ordinary post, but I did one step further – I made a survey with a question to call the best Latvias towns and cities worth to visit! In the survey participated more than 500 people who live or have lived or have traveled around Latvia. They said what they think and I totally agree with them! All towns are already ranked in the right order but my summary and map with all 7 towns, you can find at the end of this post.**\n\n# 1. RĪGA\n\nOf course, first and the main worth-to-visit Latvias city is Riga. It’s the capital of Latvia and the biggest city also in Baltic states. Rigas historical heart – Old Center is especially famous because of the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil architecture. It’s a medieval masterpiece near the Baltic Sea, also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List! You can find there amazing buildings and medieval churches, green parks, and romantic city canal, restaurants with traditional Latvian food (for example ‘’LIDO’’) and bars with the best Latvian homemade beer. KULDĪGA\n\nThe next leader is a small town 150km from the capital – Kuldiga! Actually, there aren’t a lot of things what to do, but it’s the perfect place for long walks, unusual swimming, lazy afternoon and beautiful views. Kuldiga is famous with Europes widest (about 270m) waterfall ’’Ventas Rumba’’, the prettiest 19th-century brick bridge and the 13th-century old town center. But of course, the most interesting part of Kuldiga always was and is the widest waterfall ’’Ventas Rumba’’ but it’s really worth to visit! In spring you can see there a phenomenon as ‘’Flying Fish’’ or in another words – fish jumping over waterfall; in summer you can take a swim and explore the waterfall by yourself; in autumn catch the best photos of ‘’Ventas Rumba’’ with the most colourfull tree leaves in the background; but in winter – see how amazing it looks white and frozen. CĒSIS\n\nCesis is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in Latvia (and I can say – also in Baltics)! It’s located about 100km from Riga and is definitely on my worth-to-visit list TOP3! Cesis is the only town where I can feel a medieval atmosphere and see one of the best-preserved medieval castles. The Cesis Medieval Castle is the town’s symbol. Together with a green park, cute bridges, beautiful arbor and pond it creates a very romantic and unforgettable atmosphere! It’s also one of the picturesque places for a wedding day! This culturally and historically rich town takes a full day because there are so much to explore! SIGULDA\n\nSigulda is a town located only 50km away from Riga center but mostly people are visiting this place in autumn. Have you ever heard about the golden autumn in Latvia? If not, then you need to visit Sigulda just right in October! Then trees leaves changes their colors to red, orange and yellow but Sigulda offers hill with a view to Gauja river and colorful forests. Luckily, nature isn’t everything that Sigulda is having! You can visit Siguldas Medieval Castle, Turaida Castle and New Castle, visit red sandstone Gutmanis Cave (in Latvian – Gūtmaņa ala), fly over the river valley on Sigulda cable car, try bungee jumping and other extreme and interesting attractions, catch the most colorful photos and impress your friends and family! LIEPĀJA\n\nAs Latvians says, it’s the city where the wind was born. Liepaja you can find 220km from Riga, just right on the Baltic Sea. As it’s not located in sea bay but at the open sea, this city has taken the windiest cities status. Beside of wind, Liepaja is the 3rd largest city and the only city in Latvia to where you can get from Riga by air, land, and sea! You don’t need to drive hours by bus! Take your ticket in AirBaltic and visit Liepajas 3km long Seaside park, big mirroring Liepaja letters, the golden sand beach, and the Baltic Sea, old center and the largest military territory – Karaosta. In Karaosta you can find in Europe the only one military prison open to tourists. And even more – you can stay there at the night, get an exclusive excursion, watch a historical film, hear horror stories and feel a special atmosphere. VENTSPILS\n\nVentspils is a city situated on the Venta River and the Baltic Sea. It is located 180km from Riga and is known for its port and cows. Yes, you heard me right – cows! Thanks to money from port transit, Ventspils has invested a lot of money to make this city beautiful. There are excellent roads, green parks, attractions for children, monument rich promenade, beautiful mole and the Cow Parades – large and colorful cow figures throughout the city. You can meet there and take photos with more than 25 different and most amazing cow figures and that’s something very unique! Also, you can in Ventspils visit Adventure Park with more than 40 fun activities and drive with Narrow-Gauge Railway Track (in Latvian – Mazbānītis). JŪRMALA\n\nFor the 7th worth-to-visit place in my post was fighting many towns and cities. There are a lot of small treasures in the Latvian countryside and a lot of forgotten towns and places. But this post and list I will end with one of the most visited cities in Latvia. And that’s Jurmala! It’s only located 20km from Riga and that makes all Rigans visit this resort city as oft as possible! But Russian tourists are like crazy visiting this city for more than 50 years. It’s a place for swimming, sunbathing, eating, drinking, relaxing and enjoying life! Jurmala is the largest resort city in Latvia. Unique with its 25km long golden sand beach, Baltic sea, green parks, and fresh air. And the results for me are very interesting. Most of the 7 cities I really love, but something was also missing for me and that’s Daugavpils – the second largest and one of my most favorite cities! But anyway, also without this 7-town-list there are hundreds of beautiful and amazing places to visit in Latvia. And poll results show it very good. Good places get also cities and towns like Alūksne, Kolka, Daugavpils, Līgatne, Jelgava, Valmiera, Tērvete and more and more and more.\n\nBut if you would ask ONLY my opinion, I would call you my TOP4 – Jurmala, Kuldiga, Cesis, and Daugavpils.
