রক্ষনাবেক্ষনে কোন কেমিকেল ব্যবহার করা হয়নি। এক কথায় একেবারেই প্রাকতিক নিয়মে উতপাদিত খাদ্যশস্য, মাছ, মাংস, ডিম, দুধকে অর্গানিক ফুডস বলে।\n\n \n\nঅর্গানিক ফুডস কেন প্রয়োজন?\n\n \n\nঅর্গানিক ফুডস এর প্রয়োজনীয়তা আলোচনার আগে খাদ্যে ব্যবহৃত কতিপয় রাসায়নিক দ্রব্যের ক্ষতিকর দিকগুলো জানা  দরকার।\n\nচলুন আগে দেখে নেই কোন খাদ্যে কি মেশানো হচ্ছে-\n\n \n\nকার্বাইড দিয়ে পাকানো হয় ফল মূল\n\nমাছ, মাংশ,দুধ, শাক-সবজি, ফলমুল কে পচনের হাত থেকে বাচানোর জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয় ফরমালিন\n\nজিলাপি, চানাচুরে মেশানো হয় মবিল\n\nবিস্কুট, সেমাই, নুডলস, পাঊরুটিতে টেক্সটাইল-লেদারের রং মেশানো হয়\n\nবাজারে যে মুড়ি বিক্রি হয় তার প্রায় শতভাগে চলছে ইউরিয়া-হাইড্রোজের অবাঁধ ব্যবহার\n\nদুধে ফরমালিন, স্টার্চ ও মেলামাইন মেশানো হয়\n\nমুরগি ও মাছের খাদ্যে ক্রোমিয়াম ও অন্যান্য বিষাক্ত রাসায়নিক যুক্ত ট্যানারি বর্জ্য ও অ্যান্টিবায়োটিকের ব্যবহার করা হয়\n\nসয়াবিন তেলে ভেজাল হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয় মাত্রতিরিক্ত এসিটিক এসিড\n\nচিনিতে মেশানো হয় চক পাউডার ও ইউরিয়া সার\n\nআটা ও ময়দাতে মেশানো হয় বিষাক্ত চক পাউডার\n\nমাখন ও ঘিতে ক্ষতিকর মার্জারিন এবং পশুর চর্বি মেশানো হয়।\n\nতরমুজে বিষাক্ত রঙের ইনজেকশন দিয়ে লাল করা হচ্ছে।\n\nমিষ্টিতে ব্যবহৃত হচ্ছে স্যাকারিন, ময়দা, চালের গুঁড়ো ও টিসু পেপার।\n\nসরিষার তেলের ঝাঁজ ও গন্ধের জন্য অ্যালাইল আইসো-থায়োসায়ানাইড মেশানো হয়।\n\nসরিষার তেলে রেড়ির তেল, পাম তেল, পোড়া মবিল, পশুর চর্বি মরিচের গুঁড়া ও খনিজ তেল।\n\nসয়াবিন তেলে পাম অয়েল ও ন্যাপথলিন মেশানো হয়।\n\nগুড়ে ফিটকিরি, ডালডা, আটা এবং বিষাক্ত টেক্সটাইল রং মেশানো হয়।\n\nঘাসের বীজ বা ছোট কাওন (পাখির খাবার) এর সঙ্গে ক্ষতিকর রঙ মিশিয়ে তৈরি হয় গুড়া মসলা।\n\nনিষিদ্ধ মোম, নিম্নমানের রং, ট্যালকাম পাউডার ও ঘন চিনি ব্যবহার করে তৈরি হচ্ছে চকোলেট।\n\nমোড়কজাত ফলের রসের (জুস) নামে বিষাক্ত রং ও কেমিক্যাল ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে।\n\nবিষাক্ত পাউডার ও রং দিয়ে তৈরি হচ্ছে বিদেশি ব্র্যান্ডের চকোলেট ও আইসক্রিম।\n\nকেক, জেলি ও সসে ব্যবহার করা হয় কৃত্রিম গন্ধ, রাসায়নিক ও বিষাক্ত রং।\n\nএনার্জি ড্রিংকে ব্যবহার করা হয় ক্যাফেইন ও যৌন উত্তেজক পদার্থ সিলডেনাফিল সাইট্রেট।\n\nউপরের লিস্ট থেকে আমরা বেশ কয়েকটি বিষাক্ত কেমিকেলের নাম জানলাম। এখন তার কয়েকটার ক্ষতিকর দিক জানবো।\n\n \n\nফরমালিন:\n\n \n\nফরমালিন হল একটি বর্ণহীন জলীয় দ্রবন যেখানে ৩৭%  ফরমালডিহাইড (CH2O) মিস্রিত থাকে। ফরমালিন এন্টি-ব্যাকটেরিয়াল বা সংক্রামক ব্যাধি নাশক হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। সাধারণত ফরমালিন মানুষের লাশসহ মৃত প্রাণীর দেহের পচন রোধ করতে ব্যবহার করা হয়। আমরা নিশ্চয় জীব বিজ্ঞান পরীক্ষাগারে কাচের জারে ডুবানো বিভিন্ন স্পেসিম্যান বা নমুনা (মৃতদেহ) দেখেছি যেগুলো ফরমালিন দিয়ে পচন রোধী করে রাখা আছে।\n\n \n\n► ফরমালিনের ক্ষতিকর দিক:\n\n \n\nধীরে ধীরে লিভার, কিডনি, হার্ট, ব্রেন সব কিছুুকে ধ্বংস করে দেয়। লিভার ও কিডনি অকেজো হয়ে যায়। হার্টকে দুর্বল করে দেয়। স্মৃতিশক্তি কমে যায়।\n\nফরমালডিহাইড চোখের রেটিনাকে আক্রান্ত করে রেটিনার কোষ ধ্বংস করে। ফলে মানুষ অন্ধ হয়ে যেতে পারে।\n\nতাৎক্ষণিকভাবে ফরমালিন, হাইড্রোজেন পার অক্সাইড, কারবাইডসহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের ক্ষতিকর কেমিক্যাল ব্যবহারের কারণে পেটের পীড়া, হাঁচি, কাশি, শ্বাসকষ্ট, বদহজম, ডায়রিয়া, আলসার, চর্মরোগসহ বিভিন্ন রোগ হয়ে থাকে।\n\nধীরে ধীরে এসব রাসায়নিক পদার্থ লিভার, কিডনি, হার্ট, ব্রেন সব কিছুুকে ধ্বংস করে দেয়। লিভার ও কিডনি অকেজো হয়ে যায়। হার্টকে দুর্বল করে দেয়। স্মৃতিশক্তি কমে যায়।\n\nফরমালিনযুক্ত খাদ্য গ্রহণ করার ফলে পাকস্থলী, ফুসফুস ও শ্বাসনালিতে ক্যান্সার হতে পারে। অস্থিমজ্জা আক্রান্ত হওয়ার ফলে রক্তশূন্যতাসহ অন্যান্য রক্তের রোগ, এমনকি ব্লাড ক্যান্সারও হতে পারে। এতে মৃত্যু অনিবার্য।\n\nমানবদেহে ফরমালিন ফরমালডিহাইড ফরমিক এসিডে রূপান্তরিত হয়ে রক্তের এসিডিটি বাড়ায় এবং শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস অস্বাভাবিকভাবে ওঠানামা করে।\n\nফরমালিন ও অন্যান্য কেমিক্যাল সামগ্রী সব বয়সী মানুষের জন্যই ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ। তবে সবচেয়ে বেশি ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ শিশু ও বৃদ্ধদের ক্ষেত্রে। ফরমালিনযুক্ত দুধ, মাছ, ফলমূল এবং বিষাক্ত খাবার খেয়ে দিন দিন শিশুদের শারীরিক রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতা হারিয়ে যাচ্ছে। কিডনি, লিভার ও বিভিন্ন অঙ্গ-প্রত্যঙ্গ নষ্ট, বিকলাঙ্গতা, এমনকি মরণব্যাধি ক্যান্সারসহ নানা জটিল রোগে আক্রান্ত হয়ে পড়ছে শিশু-কিশোররা। শিশুদের বুদ্ধিমত্তা দিন দিন কমছে।\n\nগর্ভবতী মেয়েদের ক্ষেত্রেও মারাত্মক ঝুঁকি রয়েছে। সন্তান প্রসবের সময় জটিলতা, বাচ্চার জন্মগত দোষত্রুটি ইত্যাদি দেখা দিতে পারে, প্রতিবন্ধী শিশুর জন্ম হতে পারে।\n\nএ ধরনের খাদ্য খেয়ে অনেকে আগের তুলনায় এখন কিডনি, লিভারের সমস্যাসহ বিভিন্ন রোগের সমস্যায় ভুগছেন। দেখা যাচ্ছে, কয়েক দিন পরপর একই রোগী ডায়রিয়ায় ভুগছেন, পেটের পীড়া ভালো হচ্ছে না, চর্মরোগে আক্রান্ত হচ্ছেন।\n\n \n\n \n\nকার্বাইড:\n\n \n\nকার্বাইডের পরো নাম ক্যালসিয়াম কার্বাইড (CaC2)। সাধারনত: এই কার্বাইড ফলমূলে দিয়ে তা বাতাসের সংস্পর্শে রাখা হয়। আর বাতাসের সংস্পের্শে এলেই কার্বাইড হতে অ্যাসিটিলিন নামের গ্যাস বেরোতে থাকে। যা উত্তাপ সৃষ্টি করে। আর এ উত্তাপের ফলেই আসলে ফল পাকে।\n\n \n\nক্ষতি\n\n \n\nকার্বাইড আপনার মস্তিস্কে অক্সিজেনের সরবরাহে বাধা প্রদান করে। যার ফলে দেখা দিতে পারে মাথাব্যথা, মাথা ঘোরা, ঘুম ঘুম ভাব, কনফিউশন বা অস্থিরতা, পারিপার্শিক অবস্থা সম্বন্ধে ভুলে যাওয়া, স্মৃতিশক্তি লোপ পাওয়া, খিঁচুনি এমনকি কোমা।\n\nভূগতে পারেন স্নায়ুঘটিত / সংন্ত্রান্ত মারাত্নক সমস্যায়।\n\nপাকস্থলি সংন্ত্রান্ত নানান সমস্যা এমনকি ক্যান্সার।\n\nঅন্ত:সত্ত্বা নারীদের ক্ষেত্রে হতে পারে ভয়াবহ সমস্যা। যার ফলাফল হবে সন্তানের নানান অস্বাভাবিকতা নিয়ে জন্ম।\n\nত্বকে চুলকানি, জ্বালাপোড়া করা বা ঘা, চোখ জ্বালাপোড়া করা, চোখ দিয়ে পানি পড়া, মুখে ক্ষত ও গিলতে কষ্ট হতে পারে।\n\nডায়রিয়া, বমি, পেটে ব্যথা বা পেট মোচড়ানো।\n\nএ ছাড়া হতে পারে আলসার, হাইপার এসিডিটি, জন্ডিস, লিভার ফেইলুর এবং কিডনি ফেইলুর। এমনকি পারে হৃদরোগ, স্ট্রোকের সাথেও আপনার দেখা হয়ে যেতে পারে\n\n \n\nক্রোমিয়াম:\n\n \n\nআমিষের চাহিদা মেটানোর জন্য পোলট্রি হাঁস-মুরগি ও মাছ কিনে খাচ্ছেন মানুষ। বাজারে পাওয়া এসব হাঁস-মুরগি ও মাছকে দ্রুত বিক্রির উপযোগী করে তুলতে কী খাওয়ানো হচ্ছে- এমন পরীক্ষায় বেরিয়ে এসেছে বিষাক্ত সব উপাদানের উপস্থিতি। পোলট্রি-ফিশ ফিড খাওয়ানো মুরগি কেটে প্রতিটি অংশ আলাদাভাবে পরীক্ষা করে অাঁতকে উঠেছেন গবেষকরা। গেল বছর আগস্ট মাসে আন্তর্জাতিক বিজ্ঞান গবেষণা সাময়িকী আইজেসিএসইআইইআরডি'র পরীক্ষায় এক মাস খাদ্য খাওয়া মুরগির মগজে পাওয়া যায় ৭৯৯ পিপিএম ক্রোমিয়াম এবং দুই মাস খাদ্য খাওয়া মুরগির মগজে (প্রতি কেজিতে) পাওয়া যায় ৪ হাজার ৫৬১ পিপিএম এবং মাংসে যথাক্রমে ২৪৪ ও ৩৪৪, চামড়ায় ৫৫৭ ও ৩২৮, হাড়ে ১ হাজার ১১ ও ১ হাজার ৯৯০, কলিজা বা লিভারে ৫৭০ ও ৬১১ এবং রক্তে ৭১৮ ও ৭৯২ পিপিএম ক্রোমিয়াম। ক্রোমিয়াম দেহের জন্য শুধু ক্ষতিকারকই নয়, এর উপস্থিতিতে মানবদেহে তৈরি হয় প্রাণঘাতী সব রোগ। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রসায়ন বিভাগের অধ্যাপক মোহাম্মদ আবুল হোসেন ও জুবায়ের হাসান জানান, অসহনীয় মাত্রার এসব ক্রোমিয়াম মুরগির মাংস বা ডিম হয়ে মানবদেহে প্রবেশ করছে। মাছ-মাংস সর্বোচ্চ ১৫০ থেকে ২০০ ডিগ্রির তাপমাত্রায় রান্না করে খাওয়া হয়। কিন্তু ক্রোমিয়াম এতই বিপজ্জনক যে, তা নষ্ট করতে কমপক্ষে ২ হাজার ৭ ডিগ্রি তাপমাত্রা প্রয়োজন। মুরগি কিংবা ডিম ছাড়াও বিভিন্ন খামারের মাছে এর প্রভাব রয়েছে বলে জানান তারা।\n\n \n\nএছাড়া জাতিসংঘের খাদ্য ও কৃষি সংস্থার 'ইমপ্রুভিং ফুড সেফটি অব বাংলাদেশ' কার্যক্রমের এক গবেষণায় মাছেও মানবদেহের জন্য ক্ষতিকর রাসায়নিকের উপস্থিতি পাওয়া যায়। ইমপ্রুভিং ফুড সেফটি অব বাংলাদেশের সিনিয়র ন্যাশনাল অ্যাডভাইজার ও স্বাস্থ্য অধিদফতরের সাবেক মহাপরিচালক অধ্যাপক ডা. শাহ মনির হোসেন জানান, মাছ ও মুরগির খাদ্যে বিষাক্ত রাসায়নিক থাকলে কিংবা মাছ-মুরগিতে উচ্চমাত্রার অ্যান্টিবায়োটিক দেয়া হলে তা যখন মানুষ খাবে, তখন মানুষের শরীরেও এগুলো ছড়িয়ে পড়বে। খামারগুলোয় উৎপাদিত মাছ-মাংসে দেশের ৭০ থেকে ৮০ শতাংশ পুষ্টির চাহিদা মিটলেও বাস্তবে এর পার্শ্বপ্রতিক্রিয়া কতটুকু হচ্ছে, তা সহজেই অনুমেয়। বিশেষজ্ঞরা মনে করেন, দেহের পুষ্টির জন্য মানুষের সব ধরনের খাদ্যই প্রয়োজন। কিন্তু আমাদের রোগপ্রতিরোধে খাদ্যের প্রয়োজন থাকলেও আমরা কি পুষ্টিকর খাবার গ্রহণ করছি? নিঃসন্দেহে বলা চলে, না। কারণ আমরা যা খাচ্ছি, তা শুধু ভয়ানকই নয়, দেহে নিজের অজান্তেই বাসা বাধছে ভয়ানক সব রোগব্যাধি। বাংলাদেশে গত কয়েক বছরে ক্যান্সার, হৃদরোগ, কিডনি ও লিভারের রোগের ব্যাপক বিস্তারের জন্য দায়ী করা হয় অনিরাপদ ওই খাদ্য বা খাদ্যে বিষাক্ত রাসায়নিক উপাদানকে। আরেক গবেষণায় বেরিয়ে এসেছে মাছ বা মুরগির খাদ্য তৈরিতে ব্যবহার হচ্ছে বিষাক্ত ট্যানারির বর্জ্য। এর সঙ্গে এ খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াজাতকরণের সময় বিভিন্ন ধাপে প্রায় ২০ ধরনের কেমিক্যাল ব্যবহার করা হয়। এর মধ্যে ক্রোমিয়াম অন্যতম। ঢাকার হাজারীবাগে ৬০টির বেশি কারখানা থেকে প্রতিদিন প্রায় ৩০ টনের বেশি মাছ ও মুরগির খাদ্য উৎপাদন হয়, যা সারা দেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলের খামারে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। তাহলে অনুমান করুন, কীভাবে এ বিষ খাদ্যের মাধ্যমে ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে অঅমাদের শরীরে। জনস্বাস্থ্য বিশেষজ্ঞরা মনে করেন, ক্রোমিয়াম থেকে কেবল ক্যান্সার, হৃদরোগ, আলসার, কিডনির রোগই নয়- মানবদেহে অতিরিক্ত ক্রোমিয়াম প্রবেশে পুরুষত্বহীনতা, অকাল প্রসব, বিকলাঙ্গ শিশুর জন্ম, অ্যাজমা, শ্বাসকষ্ট, চর্মরোগও হয়ে থাকে।\n\n \n\nলেখার পরিধি ছোট করতে সবগুলো উপাদানের বর্ননায় গেলাম না।       "body": "![FB_IMG_15396670151257799.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZSouvTXJYjF2cd2qBEVL5mj7TYpNNriPyffky7mW5g8t/FB_IMG_15396670151257799.jpg)\nবাঙালি হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বীদের কাছে দুর্গা পুজো এক অতি শুভ ও আনন্দের উৎসব। দুর্গা প্রতিমাকে সাজানো হয় রঙিন শাড়ি ও সাবেকি বাঙালি গয়না দিয়ে। শুধু মায়ের প্রতিমা কেনো, বাঙালি নারীরাও সেজে ওঠে সাবেকি সোনার গয়নায়। যেকোনো অনুষ্ঠান বা উৎসবে, বাঙালিরা সোনার গয়না পড়তে পছন্দ করে। আর উপলক্ষ্য যদি হয় দুর্গা পুজো, তাহলে আর সোনার গয়না বাদ যায় কি করে! সোনা শুভ ও সৌভাগ্যের প্রতীক বলে মনে করা হয়। কিছু কিছু বিশেষ গয়না আছে যেগুলো এই পুজোর সাজের জন্য বাঙালি মেয়েরা অবশ্যই চায়।\n\nকান পাশা : আধুনিক যুগের কানের কড়ার পুরোন ধরণ হল কান পাশা। কান পাশা সারা কান জুড়ে থাকে ও খুব নিখুঁত কাজে ভরা। সাবেকি রুপের পরিচয় বাহক এই সাজটি যেন একটা রাজকীয় ভাব এনে দেয় সাজটায়। বিয়ে বা দুর্গা পুজো, যেকোনো অনুষ্ঠানে এর একটা আলাদা কদর রয়েছে।\n\n\nটিকলি : ভারতীয় সাজে ‘মাং টিকা’ বলে অভিহিত গয়নাটি বাঙালিদের কাছে টিকলি। পুরো সোনার তৈরি এই আভূষণটিতে কোনো কুন্দন বা পাথর বসান হয় না। আসলে এটা বাঙালিদের মধ্যে দেখা যায়, সোনার কিছু পরলে তার সাথে অন্য কিছু মেশাতে বা পাথর জাতীয় কিছু বসানো ভালবাসে না। সোনার জিনিস মানে শুধুই সোনার হবে। এদের কাছে এটাই যেন এর প্রকৃত রুপদান করে, আর সেটা ঠিকও বটে।\n\n\nনথ : শুধু বাঙালিদের না, ভারতবর্ষের সব জায়গাতেই নথের চল আছে। যদিও এক এক জায়গার ধরণটা আলাদা। নাকের ফুঁটোয় পরা নথটি লম্বা চেন দিয়ে টানা থাকে কানের পেছনে। পুরোটাই হয় সোনার তৈরি। নথেরই ছোট রুপ হল নাকছাবি।\n\n\nঝুমকা : অনেকের ভাষায় যার নাম ঝুমকো, বাঙালির কাছে সেটাই হল ঝুমকা। বাঙালিদের পছন্দের আবার বিশেষ কিছু ডিজাইন আছে এই গয়নাটির। খুব বেশি সাজতে না চাইলে, এক জোড়া ঝুমকোই যথেষ্ট। এক জোড়া সুন্দর ঝুমকো যেকোনো বাঙালি মেয়েকে করে তোলে আরও সুন্দরী।\n\n\nচিক : চোকারের বাঙালি রুপ হল চিক। তবে এটা অনেক চওড়া হয়ে থাকে। শাড়ির সাথে বাঙালি তনয়ার রুপ বৃদ্ধি করে একটা চিক। সোনার চিক দারুণ লাগে তাঁতের শাড়ির সঙ্গে।\n\n\nসীতাহার : বাঙালি মহিলারা লম্বা মাপের গলায় যে হার পরে, তাকেই সীতা হার বলা হয়ে থাকে। আগেকার দিনে নিয়ম অনুযায়ী যেকোনো বিবাহিত স্ত্রীর সীতা হার পরে থাকার কথা। কিন্তু যুগ বদলেছে, তাই এখন আর নিয়মিত পরতে দেখা যায় না কাউকেই। তাই দুর্গা পুজোর সময় বাঙালি মেয়েদের শাড়ির সাজে সীতা হার থাকবেই। গয়নাটির নাম এসেছে পুরাণের গল্প থেকে। যখন রাবণ সীতাকে হরণ করে নিয়ে যাচ্ছিল, তখন সারা পথে নিজের গয়না উনি ছড়াতে ছড়াতে যান। এতে রামের পক্ষে সীতাকে খুঁজে পাওয়া সহজ হয়। সেখান থেকেই নামটা নেয় এই লম্বা হারটি।\n\n\nবালা : হালকা কিছু চুড়ির সাথে হাতে মোটা বালা পরার চল কিন্তু বাঙালিদের মধ্যে অনেকদিনের। পুরো সোনায় বানান বালা, বাঙালি মেয়েদের হাতে সব সময়ই জায়গা পায়,আর পুজোর সাজে এটা তো থাকবেই।\n\n\nমানতাসা : মানতাসা এক মনমোহক গয়নার নিদর্শন বলতে পারেন বাঙালি মেয়েদের। এটা বিয়ে, অনুষ্ঠান বা পুজোয় তারা অবশ্যই পরে থাকে। এটা খুব চওড়া মাপের হাতে চুড়ি, যার ওপর নিখুঁত সোনার কাজ হয়ে থাকে। এটা এতটাই চওড়া যে এটা পরলে আর কিছু পরার দরকারই হয় না। এমনিতে এটা এক হাতে পরা হয়, অন্য হাতটা খালি রাখা হয় হালকা সরু চুড়ির জন্য।\n\n\nরত্নচূড় : রত্নচূড় হাতের এক আভূষণ যা কিছু সোনার সুতোর মতো এক এক আঙুলে আংটির মতো পরা হয়ে থাকে। এটা পুরো সোনার হয় এবং হাতের ওপরটা পুরোটা জুড়ে থাকে। সাধারণত প্রচলিত ডিজাইনে হাতের ওপরে মাঝখানটা ময়ূর বা পদ্মর ধরণে বানানো হয়ে থাকে। অপূর্ব এক গয়না বলতে পারেন।\n\n\nআংটি : দুর্গা পুজো বা কোনো বড় অনুষ্ঠানে বাঙালির সাজ আংটি ছাড়া পূর্ণ হয় না। সাবেকি সাজের এক অবিচ্ছেদ্য অঙ্গ এটা। আবার বাঙালিদের জন্য এর কিছু বিশেষ ডিজাইন আছে, যেটা হাতের সৌন্দর্য্য আরও বাড়িয়ে তোলে",

      "body": "THE WEEKEND\n10 August, 2018 00:00 00 AM\n     \nSwarupkathi\nBy Dr Shamim Ahmed\nSwarupkathi\nOur destination was Swarupkathi upazila in Pirojpur district in south-western Bangladesh. Swarupkathi means ‘beautiful port’, but it is now officially named Nesarabad after Haji Nesaruddin, a renowned Islamic scholar of the area. We left Dhaka in the evening aboard a three-storied modern ferry, MV Agradoot, from Sadarghat river terminal. After about two hours, as we cruised into River Mehgna, we relished a sumptuous dinner with prawn and chicken curries, mixed vegetables, beef ‘bhuna’ and all types of bhorta (mash). We engaged in idle gossip and enjoyed the river cruise as we sipped tea or coffee.\n\nIn the early morning, as we cruised leaving behind the mighty Meghna and navigated through the Shyandha River, we were charmed by the mesmerising beauty of the countryside dotted with coconut, betel and banana plantations. It was a delight to find dolphins displaying acrobatic feats in the middle of the Shyandha.\n\nWe reached Inderhat (Miarhat) river terminal at Sutiakathi union and as soon as we landed, we could smell the natural fragrance of Mother Earth. We were greatly impressed to find Sutiakathi a very developed and clean town, with intricate networks of canals amidst dense forests and all urban facilities.\n\nThe very first morning we went on a canal cruise to Atghor Kuriana _ famous for its floating market and guava gardens. The entire landscape exudes a serene, natural ambience with intricate network of rivers, estuaries, canals and marshlands. A perfect place for eco-tourism.\n\nThe area is highly forested with mahogany, shegun (teak), sal, gurjan, rain tree (randi) and chambal trees, as well as fruit trees like guava, banana, aamra (hog plum), chalta (elephant apple), gab (velvet apple), jamrul (water apple). The area is equally famous for betel leaf and betel nut plantations.\n\nWe came across fishermen catching fish and country boats loaded with goods of all kinds destined for various places. Logs were seen being towed along the river. The calm, tranquil fresh water in the canals, with swaying coconut and betel nut plantations along the banks, was indeed inviting. It was highly refreshing as we sipped coconut water in a guava garden.\n\nThe following morning we dashed to Sutiakathi’s floating market, famous for tree saplings, fruits and vegetables. Almost all items are traded on boats, even fish, timber and coir products. Vendors were found selling all types of local fruits and vegetables, including coconuts, bananas and watermelons.\n\nI found the age-old floating market more vibrant and colourful and more close to nature than the floating markets of Bangkok and lakes of Kashmir. To our surprise, we also came across a booming ship-building industry in the area that is little-known to the rest of the country. Amazing!\n\nThe region is haven for fish-lovers. However, bulk of the fish caught, including ilish (hilsa), pangash, koral and different freshwater fish like iyer and ruhi, end up in Dhaka or abroad. During our visit, I must confess we enjoyed some mouthwatering fish dishes, particularly hilsa with mustard, ilish polau, prawns and small fish wrapped in banana leaves, and almost all items cooked with coconut milk. Awesome!\n\nHistorically, the area has attracted timber merchants from afar. It has been a busy timber port for a long time. Valuable logs of sal, teak, gurjan and lohakath were brought here from places as far as India and Myanmar. The proximity of the Sundarbans has also contributed to the growth of the timber industry. Now, locally grown rain tree, mahogany, sal, gurjan and chambal provide enough timer to sustain the timber yards at Inderhat and the industry currently extends along the banks of several neighbouring unions, such as Shoagdal, Balihari and Rajapur.\n\nSwarupkathi is known for its business centre and for the sundari tree, a mangrove species that grows there. It is possibly the largest timber market in the south of the country. I was told by a local leader that logs were purchased in Gauhati and Darjeeling in India and floated down the mighty rivers before finally reaching Inderhat. Houses, boats, furniture and various sport goods, like cricket bats and carom boards, are all produced from wood sold locally.\n\nIn the evening, we found time to visit some of the agricultural complexes that combine poultry and fisheries. It is a booming industry and almost all products are destined for the capital or export overseas. We also found time to visit Guccho Gram, a cluster village developed by a local philanthropist. A commendable initiative.\n\nWe embarked on a canal cruise yet another morning to Boithakata through Shoagdal and Balihari unions. Across the Shandhya River, we availed a three-wheeler that took us to the Dargah (shrine) of Sarsina Peer Saheb. Later, we visited some of the nurseries on the Swarupkathi-Barishal highway. Miles after miles of fruit, flower and vegetable nurseries add to the beauty of the panoramic landscape. Interestingly, almost all the nurseries in Dhaka are owned or run by people from Swarupkathi. Further down, we visited the mosque at Guthia _ one of the finest in the country.\n\nIn the evening, it was time again for a canal cruise, dubbed as ‘night safari’ by our friends.\n\nLater, we treated ourselves to desserts, such as hot succulent rasgollas, jilapi, coconut pitha and tea prepared with fresh cow milk, in possibly one of the most vibrant and colourful bazaars in our countryside.\n\nSwarupkathi has one of the highest literacy rates in the country. Proximity to Kolkata through the now redundant steamer route and contribution of dedicated teachers is largely responsible for the spread of education in the area.\n\nThe local people are mostly engaged in agriculture, poultry, fishing and the timber trade. Most of the houses are elegantly built of wood and the doors and windows are beautifully carved by artisans. The coir (coconut fibre) industry is a monopoly of the area, catering to the need of door mats and ropes across the country.\n\nSutiakathi can only be reached by waterways from Dhaka and the rest of the country. Only recently, three-wheelers, locally called easy bikes, and motorcycles have started plying in the town, much to the annoyance of the local populace, in an otherwise calm and tranquil neighbourhood. The area deserves to be recognised as one of the high-end destinations for eco-tourism and it is imperative that public and private enterprises put some serious thought and consideration into it.",

The first day of the Bengali year, Pohela Boishakh, is celebrated on April 14 in Bangladesh and on April 15 in West Bengal, India. It also coincides with the mid-April New Year’s days of several Asian calendars, including those used in the Indian states of Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Orissa, Jharkhand, Kerala and Tamil Nadu; in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia.\nIn the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, Boisuk of Tripuri, Sangrai of Marma and Biju of Chakma communities are celebrated together as Boisabi on April 13, the eve of Pohela Boishakh.\nThe Bengali New Year begins at sunrise, and the day is marked with cultural programmes, colourful rallies and village fairs. People dress up in bright _usually red and white _ traditional costumes and women adorn their hair with fresh flowers.\nHistorically, the day has been seen across the subcontinent as the day for a new opening. In Bengal landlords used to distribute sweets among their tenants, and business people settled debts and started a new ‘halkhata’ (ledger), locking away the old. Vendors used to offer sweets to their  customers to renew their business relationship with them. There were fairs and festivities all over.\nThe development of the Bengali calendar is often attributed to Shoshangko, the king of Gour or Gauda,  as the starting date of the Bengali Era (AD 593/ 594) falls squarely within his reign.\nMughal Emperor Akbar introduced a revised calendar to make tax collection easier in Bengal. The Mughals used to collect taxes according to the Islamic calendar and Akbar ordered an improvement of the calendar systems, because the lunar Islamic calendar did not coincide with the harvests and the farmers faced severe difficulties in paying taxes out of season.\nSome sources credit the idea to Akbar’s finance minister Todar Mal. Accordingly, Amir Fatehullah Shirazi, the royal astronomer, formulated a new calendar based on the lunar Hijri and solar Indian calendars. The resulting calendar was introduced following the harvesting season, when farmers would be in a relatively sound financial position.\nThe distinctive characteristic of the revised Bengali year was that, rather than being a solar or lunar calendar, it was based on a union of the solar and lunar year. This was essentially a great improvement, as the solar and lunar years were formulated on very diverse systems. Primarily, this new calendar was named as ‘Fosholi Shon’ (harvest calender), and later ‘Bonggabdo’ or ‘Bangla Shon’.\nThe Bengali Year was launched on March 10/11, 1584, but was dated from November 5,1556 or Hijri 963 _ the day Akbar ascended to the throne. During Mughal reign, the Bangla Shon was implemented throughout the empire. Apart from Bengal and parts of eastern South Asia, however, the calendar was abandoned with the end of Mughal rule.\nThe Bengali calendar consists of 12 months and six seasons. Two months are paired together for each season.\nThe length of a year is counted as 365 days, as in the Gregorian calendar. However, the actual time taken by the earth in its revolution around the sun is 365 days and about six hours. To make up this discrepancy, the Gregorian calendar adds an extra day, to make a leap year, to the month of February every fourth year. To make the Bengali calendar more precise, the following recommendations of the Bangla Academy are followed:\n•    The first five months, from Boishakh to Bhadro, will consist of 31 days each.\n•    The remaining seven months, from Ashwin to Chaitra, will consist of 30 days each.\n•    In every leap year of the Gregorian calendar, an additional day will be added in the month of Falgun (which is 14 days after February 29).\n\nThe usage and popularity of the Bengali calendar continues partly due to its adaptation to reflect the unique seasonal patterns of eastern South Asia. The region has a climate that is best divided into six seasons, including the monsoon and the dry seasons, in addition to spring, summer, autumn and winter.\nIn everyday use, the Bengali calendar has been largely replaced with the Gregorian calendar, although it is still essential for marking holidays specific to Bengali culture, like Durga Puja, and for marking the six seasons of the year.",

      "body": "Bangladesh and West Bengal in recent history is the history of the last four Millenniums. In a sense, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra had been cut off Bengal from the mainland of India. However, India took an important role in the history of Bengali. The region was known as gangaridai to the ancient Romans and Greeks.\n\n\n\n\nAncient History\n\nThe Copper Age almost four thousand-year-old ruins were found in Bengal. After the Indo-Aryans, Anga, Vanga and Magadha kingdom was established in the tenth century BC. This was established around the states and Bengali. Vanga and Magadha state organs first described in the conceivably around 1000 BC.\n\nMost of the areas of the sixth century BC were part of the powerful kingdom of Magadha. The kingdom of Magadha was an ancient Indo-Aryan. The Ramayana and the Mahabharata found Magadha. It was one of the four main kingdoms of India at the time of the Buddha. Bimbisarera enhances the ability of Magadha (reign 544-491 BC) and his son Ajatsutru (reign 491-460 BC) period.\n\nMagadha had most land of Bihar and Bengal. In 326 BC Empire of Alexander the Great's army moved towards the Nanda and Magadha border. The army was tired and afraid to face Indian army near the Ganges River in India. The army revolted, refused further to go east. Alexander then meets his assistant kainasa and decided to return.\n\nMaurya Empire was formed magadhei. Chandragupta Maurya was the founder of the Maurya Empire.  The Maurya Empire had spread in South Asia, the Persian, and Afghanistan in reign of Asoka’s. Subsequently, the powerful Gupta Empire, which develops magadhei had spread the northern Indian subcontinent and parts of Persia and Afghanistan.\n\n\n\nThe initial conditions of the era\n\nGaur State\n\nShashank was the first independent king of Bengal, who ruled from AD 637 to AD 606. Perhaps he was a feudal emperor under Gupta. He was probably kidnapped rajyasri who was sister of Harshavardhana. This is why war was beginning with Harshavardhana. Seeing his strength the royal Kamrup Bhaskarvarman established an alliance with his enemy Harshavardhana. Two of the most powerful king of the Pala dynasty Dharmapala (reigned 775-810 AD) and Devapala (reigned 810-850 AD).\n\nRule of Muslim\n\nSince the beginning of the eighth century, Muslim rule in the subcontinent lasted until the mid-twentieth century.\n\nIslamic rule in India was started in 712 by the conquest of Sindh by Muhammad bin Qasim.  In 712 blessings are bred by the Khalifa of Damesk Al-Walid and conducted by the Baghdad governor Hajjaj bin Yusuf  Qasim earn the victory of Islam and discipline debuted in India. Sepoy revolt ended the rule of the East India Company in 1857 AD and Bengali directly under the administration of the British royal family. Bengali was very good rice-producing region, and here they were made of fine cotton muslin. The region is also the world's leading providers of demand for jute. Since 1850, Bengal is India's main industrial area to grow. The industrial and newly developed originally built in suburban areas around Kolkata. But most of the people of Bengal were still more dependent on agriculture. In 1905, the British government through the formation of a separate state of East Bengal and Assam marked the beginning of the first partition.
