Today we want to look at an example of someone who did not give up.\nOur opening verse recounts the story of Sampson and how he was captured and abused by the Philistines.\nIn the account, after shaving his hair, a weakened Sampson was blinded and thrown into prison. However, unknown to the Philistines and probably Sampson himself, his hair had began to grow again signifying hope for him again.\nSimilarly we sometimes go through situations that we seem imprisoned in; unable to break through. In such times we are also normally blind and oblivious to what God is working behind the scenes. Like Sampson's growing hair, God is working in and around you to ensure your breakthrough. So don't give up! And when placed between two pillars (a God given opportunity) like Sampson, push again! The usual interpretation that has been ascribed to it is that as we share testimonies, then we overcome the devil. Even though this concept is partially right, let's look at the contextual meaning of the verse.\nMan was assigned to a penalty of spiritual death(hell) for disobeying God in Eden. Satan therefore took undue advantage of man's fallen state to put him in bondage using death as his power/weapon **(Hebrews 2:14b)**. After Jesus died and shed His blood for man, man dhhhďd&ddd\\became legally free from the penalty of death. In other words, Jesus took man's penalty of death upon himself so that man will not have to die again.\nThis means anyone who believes and accepts the sacrifice of Jesus is legally free from every single dominion of the devil. However, the devil even though he has no legal right over the saved man, still tries to scare him into the bondage of fear by bringing accusations against him. But as long as the believer testifies(gives a testimony) that Jesus' blood sets him free, he overcomes the enemy and his schemes. This is the surest way of defeating the devil. When he comes to you with accusations of sins you may have committed, just keep on testifying of the work of the blood.\n\n>LIFE APPLICATION\nNever cease giving the testimony that the blood has restored you and made you whole.\n\nPRAYER\nThank you Father for the precious gift of the blood and the power behind testifying to it.",

The usual interpretation that has been ascribed to it is that as we share testimonies, then we overcome the devil. Even though this concept is partially right, let's look at the contextual meaning of the verse. \nMan was assigned to a penalty of spiritual death(hell) for disobeying  God in Eden. Satan therefore took undue advantage of man's fallen state to put him in bondage using death as his power/weapon **(Hebrews 2:14b).** After Jesus died and shed His blood for man, man  dhhhďd&ddd\\became legally free from the penalty of death. In other words, Jesus took man's penalty of death upon himself so that man will not have to die again.\n This means anyone who believes and accepts the sacrifice of Jesus is legally free from every single dominion of the devil. However, the devil even though he has no legal right over the saved man, still tries to scare him into the bondage of fear by bringing accusations against him. But as long as the believer testifies(gives a testimony)  that Jesus' blood sets him free, he overcomes the enemy and his schemes. This is the surest way of defeating the devil. When he comes to you with accusations of sins you may have committed, just keep on testifying of the work of the blood.\n\n >LIFE APPLICATION \nNever cease giving the testimony that the blood has restored you and made you whole. \n\nPRAYER \nThank you Father for the precious gift of the blood and the power behind testifying to it.",

But on the field, he would go the extra mile of fighting bears and lions just to save his sheep(1 **Samuel 17:34-36).** \nAll these together with others like Jesus, Abraham and Moses had little beginnings but that did not hinder their glorious ends. However, they were all diligent in their occupations before their ultimate calls. \nJesus said in **Luke 16:11** that unless one is faithful with unrighteous mammon, he will not be given the true riches. To attain our ultimate calling, it is important that we be found faithful and diligent with everything God commits into our hands including 'unspiritual' things like academics, jobs and families. \n\n>LIFE APPLICATION \nBe content with wherever you find yourself even as you strive for higher heights because in God's time, you will be lifted up. \nBe faithful with whatever is committed into your hands be it great or little. \n\nPRAYER \nFather help me be faithful with whatever I am called to do.",

Being full of the Holy Spirit is quite passive because you just need to be prayed for but recieving power is relatively active. For this reason, many believers have the Holy Spirit but not power. He did all these not out of compulsion or necessity but love **(John 3:16)**. The root is the part below the soil that is not seen and the shoot is the part above\nthe soil that is seen and also bears fruit. \nIn the same vain, the root of faith is the part that you believe in your heart. This part is not seen but is equally important if there will be any fruit bearing. The shoot on the other hand is the part that you confess. This is perceptible by all around and is the fruit bearing part.\n Just as a tree needs both part to produce fruits, before faith can bring something tangible in your life, you need to both believe the word of God (the source of faith)and confess it with your mouth. It is not enough believing that by the stripes of Jesus you're healed or by your being a seed of Abraham, you are wealthy; to experience the healing and prosperity, you also need to confess them. These may include the demise of a loved one, sickness, academic failure, and many others. During these troubling times, the believer wonders whether God is with him at all. The truth is in as much as God wants us to enjoy His blessings in our lives, He is more interested in us bearing the full image of His son. Jesus was a man of faith, patience, long suffering and all other good virtues. It is God's uttermost desire that we as His sons will acquire all these traits. For this reason, He will permit for us to enter various trials just to enable us become mature sons**(Hebrews 12:6-11).**\nTherefore, it is never disadvantageous to the believer when he finds himself in challenging and trying moments. They all work together for our good **(Romans 8:28).** However, God does not depart from us during times of trouble. Rather, He still stays close to us even during the moment of trouble and delivers us from it in the end**(Psalm 91:15).** \n\n  >LIFE APPLICATION \n God allows for you to go through trials as a form of training. \n God stays close to you in time of trouble.\n\nPRAYER \nFather I thank you that all things work for my good; give me the strength to endure the night that I may see your glory in the morning.",

      "body": "I press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. **Philippians 3:14**\n![U5duGyPSesHXZbWwTced5zArGwHrQkE_1680x8400.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmTfmJvBX1N1eLukfbGqpSqXiRy8evB1LMoaHHJwG7WHpd/U5duGyPSesHXZbWwTced5zArGwHrQkE_1680x8400.jpg)\n**2 Timothy 1:9** says, \"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace.\"  According to this verse there is a general and primary calling in christiandom. This is the call to be a believer. It is a call that every true christian has answered to. \nYet in our verse for today **(Philippians 3:14)** Paul speaks of a different calling; a higher calling even after we've come to Christ. In **verses 10 and 11** of the same chapter he speaks of a burning desire to know God and in the end to become like him in every possible way; in power, in suffering, in death and in resurrection. That is the higher calling and it is this that separates passionate christians from passive christians. Whereas passive christians are content with the fact that they have answered the first call, passionate christians like Paul recognize that there is a higher call and so pursue it. These are the ones that read their Bibles when they don't have to, take time to win souls for the kingdom when others aren't and spend more time in prayer. If we too would recognize the value of this calling and the prize attatched to it, it would determine the course of our actions and the level to which we pursue God in this life.\n\n>LIFE APPLICATION\nDo not just be satisfied with the fact that you are saved. Like Paul press on towards the higher calling by doing more for Christ.\n\nPRAYER\nFather, enlighten the eyes of my understanding that I may know what is the hope of my calling.",

In fact when carried out in faith they would definitely yield some result. Yet in some cases it appears that these weapons would be of even greater benefit to God and his kingdom when used on ourselves rather than the enemy.\nLet's take for example the sword of the Spirit which, according to **Ephesians 6:17** is the word of God. It is a weapon that can be employed in prayer to slay the host of enemy forces. Yet when the word is likened to a sword in **Hebrew 4:12** (For the word of God is quick and active sharper than any two edged sword), its use is in the souls and spirits of man not against the enemy; much like our opening scripture. Imagine what would happen if a Christian were to have the word of God adequately operating in his mind; tearing down every stronghold put in place by the enemy. He would be unleashed to walk in the glorious liberty and dominion he has been called to us a child of God.\nAnother example is the fire of God which can be invoked like Elijah did against his enemies in **2 Kings 1:10**. However when baptized in this very fire ourselves, it has that ability to turn us into weapons such that even hell cannot contain us. Just look at how many people the disciples snatched from hell on that fateful day they were baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire **(Acts 2).**\nSo by all means let us use the weapons of God especially in prayer but most times, let us remember to use them on ourselves instead.\n\n>LIFE APPLICATION\nPray for these effects of the weapons of God to be seen in your life.\n\nPRAYER\nFather, may you set me ablaze with your fire and break down every stronghold in my mind with your word.",

What can we liken it to? \nAfter charging our phones for a long time the notification on our phones normally reads 'battery full' as opposed to when it has not been connected properly to a power source so that it reads 'battery low'. That is how our spiritual life is. When we spend ample time connecting to our power source that is the Holy Spirit, we come out full of the Holy Spirit and every gifting and virtue inherent in our Spirit is activated.\nWhen our phone battery is low however all the functions of the phone and in our case our spirits, become inacessible to us. It becomes difficult to here from God. It becomes difficult to receive insight when we read the scriptures. Our light begins to dim as Christians so that it becomes difficult for people to see Christ in us. All because we are not connected to him. The good news is that the moment we reconnect to him again we'll begin to light up once more. Therefore let's not refuse to spend ample with God on account of being busy.
