At this moment it is the only platform in the world where it is possible to trade both plain vanilla options on bitcoin as well as futures with margin.</h2>\n<h2>Some key features of Deribit trading platform:</h2>\n<h2>Trade plain vanilla European style cash settled options on the Deribit BTC index, with margin.</h2>\n<h2>Trade BTC futures that settle on the Deribit BTC index, with up to 20x leverage.</h2>\n<h2>The platform can handle hundreds of trades per second from each account, which makes it possible for market makers to quote on all options available on the platform.</h2>\n<h2>All data on the platform is streamed in real time, through websockets, to client browsers.</h2>\n<h2>The platform is built on the ERLANG/OTP stack. (same technology has been used for Whatsapp). Prepared for a huge amount of concurrent users, ultra low latency and updates without downtime.</h2>\n<h2>The platform allows placing volatility orders, where the Deribit price engine continuously updates the price of the order as to keep the implied volatility of the order fixed. With this feature basic market making is already possible for any trader that opens an account.</h2>\n<h2>Lowest trading fees in the industry: 0.01% fees for orders that take liquidity, and 0% fees for orders that add liquidity.</h2>\n<h2>Real-time risk management with incremental auto-liquidation: If an account has a maintenance margin higher than its equity, the Deribit risk engine will liquidate its position in small steps,</h2>\n<h2>providing maximal protection for all parties involved. Liquidations are small and instantaneous, again ensuring fairness for everyone.</h2>\n<h2>Starting with a 100BTC insurance fund to cover bankruptcies. Any bankruptcies are published in real time on the platform. Deribit aims to never have socialized losses. Our risk management system is built such way that its extremely difficult to go bankrupt even if one would try to do so.</h2>\n<h2>Trade via REST, Websockets API or FIX bridge.       "body": "<p><img src=\"https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2T8hTaCxufc/V5t1Zgmu55I/AAAAAAAABeU/KJQDBTw6kOYL-8hjh0tSxkX6FDs22PxmQCLcB/s400/Bitcoin-nw-384x253.jpg\" /></p>\n<h2> <strong>One of the fundamental assumptions of blockchains, whether  public or private, is that 51% of actors, especially miners, are honest.  Logically, the more actors there are, the more the assumption stands.  However, numerous bitcoin developers, including Gregory Maxwell, Peter  Todd, Luke-Jr and others, have stated that bitcoin mining is centralized  in two or three individuals.</strong> The invention of ASICs, in combination with economies of scale  (although some research suggests after a certain point – around 25% – it  becomes more economical to have less hashing power) has led to giant  mining farms in remote areas of China where electricity is cheap, making  Bitcoin mining highly profitable. It is, however, much more profitable  to be rewarded for mining, through blocks or fees, rather than  maliciously attack the network, but the option is there and facts can  change. A <a href=\"https://eprint.iacr.org/2016/716.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">new paper</a> [PDF]  from university researchers based in Shanghai and Virginia claims to  have a solution which secures the network even if 51% of miners are  malicious. The highly technical paper, extending more than 30 pages,  opens by stating: </h2>\n<h2>“On top of Bitcoin’s brilliant ideas of utilizing the  power of the honest miners, via their computing power together with  blocks, to secure the blockchain, we further leverage the power of the  honest users, via their coins together with transactions, to achieve  this goal.”</h2>\n<h2>That is, a second layer is added to proof of work via coin-voting,  otherwise known as proof of stake. The paper analyses proof-of-stake  implementations, the “nothing at stake” problem and the many proposed  solutions, including <a href=\"https://blog.ethereum.org/2015/08/01/introducing-casper-friendly-ghost/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethereum’s Casper</a>.  The researchers conclude that Casper uses a random number generator  which “is an extractor based on the previous state of the blockchain,  with entropy sourced from missing block propositions.” It is, therefore,  manipulatable, according to the study. Moreover, they argue that the current proof of stake implementations require coins to be locked: </h2>\n<h2>“If a validator set is too big then most of the coins are  immovable and sadly misses the point of currency, but if the set is too  small, then an adversary with a meager sum of coins could halt  consensus.”</h2>\n<h2>The proposed solution is not to lock coins, but to ask transacting users to vote on the best blockchain: “A possible way for an honest user to [support the best chain] is to  include the user’s best available blockchain as part of the transaction;  this transaction is then signed by the user and bound to the user’s  current best available blockchain. When this transaction is broadcast  into the network, all miners are informed with the user’s best choice of  blockchain. The Bitcoin scalability issue has polarized the community into those who support the increase in block size, and those who don’t. Things between these two camps often leads to ugly debates on social media platforms.</h2>\n<h2>The Bitcoin subreddit on renowned Reddit social platform continues to be one of the important platforms to host these debates. Created as a discussion forum for all the bitcoin users, the subreddit is now being accused for turning into a propaganda machine for promoting Bitcoin Core, and opposing block size proposal. Many prominent people from the Bitcoin community, including Roger Ver, have spoken on multiple occasions against the censorship policies of the moderators.</h2>\n<h2>The opposing forces in the ongoing Bitcoin ‘civil war’ were at loggerheads all over again following Ver‘s recent take on /r/Bitcoin’s moderators for supporting censorship. Ver accused Theymos, one of the Bitcoin subreddit moderators, of banning threads that speak against Bitcoin Core.</h2>\n<h2>Roger Ver went on to say that the aforementioned practices have turned this discussion board suitable for only a handful of people, a practice that has a detrimental effect on the enthusiasm of the whole Bitcoin community. In addition, he also called out people to protest against such censorship.</h2>\n<h2> “Recently I publicly asked Greg Maxwell what he thought of blatant censorship like this: (image below) </h2>\n<h2><img src=\"https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GQjwX_mWI3E/V5t0UMd2kJI/AAAAAAAABeI/KDJ886J8GsoQ5baYegIHdSrdccpUP8JTACLcB/s400/1.png\" /></h2>\n<h2> </h2>\n<h2>Despite having certainly having noticed the post, that  was at the very top of /r/BTC he declined to comment in any way. I think  that says a lot about his character.”</h2>\n<h2>He added: </h2>\n<h2>“Greg Maxwell, Theymos, and everyone else who refuses to  speak out against this sort of policy (erasing minority opinions from  forums and discussion boards) should be ashamed of themselves, and the  rest of us should publicly shame them.”</h2>\n<h2>Roger Ver’s accusation has garnered a response by Theymos who  cleared that there are no financial gains involved in the kind of  moderation being carried out by the Bitcoin subreddit moderators. He  said: </h2>\n<h2>“There are no monied interests influencing <a href=\"https://m.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin\" rel=\"noopener\">/r/Bitcoin</a> moderation.  I’ve never been an employee of a Bitcoin company. I receive nothing  whatsoever from Blockstream, nor do I have any financial interest in  their company. I don’t get any compensation whatsoever for moderating  /r/Bitcoin. If it was safe to remove the max block size, then doing so  would only be good for me — as far as I can tell, I would get no benefit  from needlessly restricting block sizes or forcing the use of  Lightning. /r/Bitcoin policies are what they are because I/we think that they  are the best policies for /r/Bitcoin and Bitcoin.       "body": "<center>https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GMK-rFVxxEo/V5tycwQGw6I/AAAAAAAABd4/A4U7SkF3s6k6UvknXzqjdzjxdzqjX-zqgCLcB/s1600/1.jpg</center>\n\n<h3>Bitcoin experts have weighed into a debate regarding the legal status of the cryptocurrency following a ruling by a Florida judge last week.</h3>\n\n<h3>Florida judge Teresa Pooler dismissed felony charges including money laundering against Michell Espinoza, who had sold bitcoins to an undercover detective.</h3>\n\n\n<h3>In the ruling published on July 22, Pooler said bitcoins are not \"tangible wealth\" because of reasons including the fact they \"cannot be hidden under a mattress like cash and gold bars.\"</h3>\n\n<h3>\"This court is not an expert in economics, however, it is very clear, even to someone with limited knowledge in the area, that bitcoin has a long way to go before it is the equivalent of money,\" she said.</h3>\n\n<h3>Despite the ruling, bitcoin has been used to buy goods and services from online retailers for some time and more and more retailers are accepting bitcoin payments in stores.</h3>\n\n<h3>Judge Pooler failed to give bitcoin the credit it deserves, according to Christopher Burniske, analyst and blockchain products lead at financial services firm ARK Investment Management.</h3>\n\n<h3>\"Judge Pooler's commentary around bitcoin not being accepted as a means of exchange by all merchants could be applied to someone trying to use the Kenyan shilling in the U.S. and being denied,\" he told CNBC in an email.</h3>\n\n<h3>\"Just because the Kenyan shilling is not accepted by all merchants doesn't mean it's not a currency, and the same applies to bitcoin.\"</h3>\n\n<h3>According to Burniske, bitcoin is close to fulfilling the same roles as money: It's a means of exchange, a store of value, and a unit of account. The global rise in this  form of malware has affected individuals, companies, and even  governments, which is why the EU is willing to do anything in its power  to prevent it from becoming a larger problem than it already is. The EU is currently working on reforming its Anti-Money Laundering  Directive (AMLD) and has decided to add a database of cryptocurrency  users to it in order to prevent criminals from laundering money in an  untraceable way via the internet. It has been quite difficult for  governments to include cryptocurrency into their laws as this nascent  technology is rarely recognized as actual money by financial  institutions.
