body
https://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/beautiful-expression-fashion-911601.jpg

Described as the ‘most disruptive development in technology’, Immersive Reality (IR) is proving to be more than just a fad. Not only is this diverse and innovative technology here to stay, it is predicted to become a booming billion pound industry. But IR is not just for the intense gamer or the tech-enthusiast. Brands are beginning to integrate IR into their value proposition, customer experience and even their marketing communications. So why should your brand invest in IR now?

What are the types of IR?

There are three main types of immersive reality; Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR).

In technical terms, VR is a computer-generated simulation of a 3D image or environment that you interact with using a specialist VR headset. Virtual reality could be the thing we’ve all been waiting for - the ability to be immersed in a completely different environment distinct from our actual reality. Since the first prototype creation of the Oculus Rift in 2010, VR has become a hot topic for discussion in the tech industry. From new headsets such as the HTC Vive to Varjo’s human eye-resolution headset, this technology is constantly evolving.

AR adds digital elements to a live view, often used through smartphone cameras. Examples of AR experiences include the well known Snapchat lenses and the popular game Pokemon Go. Rather than replacing the real world with a simulated alternative, like VR, AR enhances the current space around the user and adjusts it for a deeper, 3D illusion. From small scale imagery, such as simple colour-changing signs or icons within a room, to an animated concerto on top of your Haagen Daz ice cream tub, AR is rapidly evolving to serve more diverse purposes in tech.

MR experiences are where a user can see the real world (like AR), while also seeing believable, virtual objects (like VR). These virtual objects can then be anchored to a point in real space, thus simulating a ‘real’ perspective. This E3 Minecraft demo perfectly showcases MR and how it varies from AR and VR.

Why should brands use IR (Immersive Reality)?

1. £, £, and more £

With an estimated 171 million VR users globally, now is the time to invest. While consumer spending is increasing, so is the market value, predicted to grow by 390 per cent in the next four years. To quote Mark Zuckerberg, “The future is coming, and we have to change and build it together… this kind of immersive AR will become a part of daily life for billions of people”. With the introduction of cheaper headsets and mobile integration, VR and AR are becoming more affordable for consumers to experience. Sparking an interest among modern consumers, an investment in IR not only creates a unique customer experience but enhances loyalty and engagement. Additionally, these IR experiences can be recorded and used in marketing material, called ‘embedded experiences’. Through these, brands can stand out among competitors and leverage their investment in IR.

2. It’s different and intriguing

From the first historic panoramic paintings to modern day VR headsets, immersive reality has always been present but has drastically evolved over time. It is a way to enhance the senses, creating an alternative, or layered reality. This new form of marketing approach for developing immersive consumer experiences has already been utilised by brands to demonstrate their sophisticated technologies and capabilities. The effectiveness of IR is demonstrated in the joint YuMe/Nielsen study, which found consumers engage for 34 per cent longer and have a 27 per cent higher emotional reaction to IR than 2D videos.

3. From new headsets such as the HTC Vive to Varjo’s human eye-resolution headset, this technology is constantly evolving.
\r\n
AR adds digital elements to a live view, often used through smartphone cameras. Examples of AR experiences include the well known Snapchat lenses and the popular game Pokemon Go. Rather than replacing the real world with a simulated alternative, like VR, AR enhances the current space around the user and adjusts it for a deeper, 3D illusion. From small scale imagery, such as simple colour-changing signs or icons within a room, to an animated concerto on top of your Haagen Daz ice cream tub, AR is rapidly evolving to serve more diverse purposes in tech.
\r\n
MR experiences are where a user can see the real world (like AR), while also seeing believable, virtual objects (like VR). These virtual objects can then be anchored to a point in real space, thus simulating a ‘real’ perspective. This E3 Minecraft demo perfectly showcases MR and how it varies from AR and VR.
\r\n

\r\n
Why should brands use IR (Immersive Reality)?
\r\n
1. £, £, and more £
\r\n
\r\n
2. It’s different and intriguing
\r\n
From the first historic panoramic paintings to modern day VR headsets, immersive reality has always been present but has drastically evolved over time. It is a way to enhance the senses, creating an alternative, or layered reality. This new form of marketing approach for developing immersive consumer experiences has already been utilised by brands to demonstrate their sophisticated technologies and capabilities. The effectiveness of IR is demonstrated in the joint YuMe/Nielsen study, which found consumers engage for 34 per cent longer and have a 27 per cent higher emotional reaction to IR than 2D videos.
\r\n
3. Rich Data
\r\n
We record, analyse, breakdown and strategize over consumer data constantly. IR creates a wealth of rich data. No longer are we limited to measuring demographics and engagement, but instead, we can now monitor how consumers act, react and interact during an IR experience with a brand, service, product or simulated situation. This type of data can then be used to build audiences and create a more valuable experience for them.
\r\n

\r\n
4. As a relatively new framework, we wanted to give you our insight and experience in using it as a development tool. Read below our pro's and cons to using the ionic framework for building hybrid mobile applications. For more information get in touch with our team, who are always on hand to offer friendly and informative advice.
Background on the Ionic Framework
Ionic was launched in 2012 as a free open source HTML5 software development kit (SDK), aiming to further empower developers to build a mobile web app that provides a native experience. Typically known as a ‘hybrid’ app, with web technologies like HTML, CSS and Javascript, the Ionic framework is used, alongside the popular Javascript library AngularJS, to develop the front-end User Interface (UI) layer that sits on top of a Cordova code base. Cordova applications use CSS3 and HTML5 for their rendering and JavaScript for their logic, which means they use a web view for layout rendering but also able to have access to native device APIs and functionality when paired alongside Cordova plugins. So as long as a development team understands the basics of Javascript and AngularJS, alongside Cordova, they will be able to utilise Ionic for a project.
Native vs Hybrid
We have written plenty of articles surrounding the debate of native vs hybrid app development, which can be found below, but to in order to give a complete picture in this article we will briefly cover it again. https://rolleragency.co.uk/blog/native-app-web-app-our-guide/ https://rolleragency.co.uk/blog/development-choices-web-hybrid-native-apps/ Our development team are strong believers in building traditional native applications, however, they also believe in utilising the technology stack that best suits the nuances of the individual product to ensure the best delivery for the project in hand. The key benefit we have often found in developing hybrid apps is that existing web teams can build high-performance apps that can run on any device, allowing a new layer of autonomy for businesses. With native application development, entirely separate code bases are required to be developed in conjunction, which means that in general, a cross-platform native application project can be more timely and expensive than developing a hybrid or web app. The brains behind the Ionic framework declare that hybrid apps seemingly get the best of both worlds, utilising a single codebase and using plugins to tap into the native functionality. However, because a hybrid app is running a webpage in a webview hosted inside a UI native ‘wrapper’, it can be slower due to page loading, and provide a less intuitive experience than a native app, especially with performance-intensive applications.
What We Enjoy About Building in Ionic
Our development team enjoy the benefits of utilising Ionic when developing hybrid apps for a number of reasons. Ionic gives the development team access to UI elements (filters, forms, navigation menu, list views, tab bars etc) that make the app look nearly as good as a native app, which was historically the problem with developing hybrid apps in the past.
The Ionic fan base and community is growing and therefore has a large network of developers who are using the framework. There is a 20,000 registered users Slack channel full of qualified and informed developers who are on hand for daily support when faced with challenges surrounding the framework. Having a thriving community can often make or break a development framework and the Ionic community seems to be growing from strength to strength.
Ionic have also realised Ionic Pro which gives access to a suite of tools that allow apps to be developed with the Ionic framework quicker and easier than ever before. Rapid prototyping, real-time app updates including error monitoring and app-store compilation packages give developers additional tools to speed up the development process. It is also has a relatively cheap subscription model which is always an added bonus! Because the technology is all web, it means you can use the same code base and develop a Progressive Web App (PWA) later down the line. This allows you to run your app inside a desktop browser allowing for more innovative product innovation down the line. It should also be noted that native apps can be only be downloaded via the app store, whereas hybrid apps can be distributed via desktop browsers, desktop apps, mobile browsers and the app stores, giving a broader distribution scope for commercialisation.

The Challenges We Have Faced
Working with Ionic and Cordova notoriously is not without its problems. With several different layers of web technologies stacked up against each other, there is a pressure of having multiple dependencies that all rely on each other to work. Ionic has its own plugins called Ionic Native, which can be used alongside Cordova plugins, that tend to be harder to use. Because the developer can be reliant on this, it can prove to be a more challenging process, that has the potential to slow progress. This is especially the case when complicated functionality is required because as bugs arise they become reliant on the external provider to create a patch or have patches developed by the team themselves. This again may slow progress and cause unexpected delays in a project. Overall, we believe that Ionic is an exciting and innovative framework to use for projects that require rapid development, a need to be used across multiple platforms plus a desire to look and feel like a native application without overly complicated functionality. At Roller, we choose the framework that suits the project in hand. However, for time, speed and transferable efficiency, we are big advocates of the Ionic framework. If you would like to chat to us about your next app development project, please contact us at [email protected].

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://rolleragency.co.uk/blog/ctos-guide-developing-hybrid-mobile-applications-using-ionic/

body
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/rawpixel-310778-unsplash-1.jpg

With few companies in the UK containing a fully fleshed-out mobile development team of their own, it’s becoming increasingly commonplace for companies to outsource their product development to an external development agency, but it can often seem like a daunting process. We have put down a few top tips of what to look out for when selecting an external agency to partner with. When selecting this agency, there are a variety of skills and systems that, ideally, you should to be aware of before settling on your chosen development team and agency. At Roller, for example, we pride ourselves on having a fully integrated team of front and back end developers, both web and application developers, meaning that we have the right resources for any project that comes our way. Roller MD, Martin Sandhu, shares his thoughts on the most important skills your development team should possess, and what he believes makes the Roller development team so successful: ‘The development team at Roller takes a solution first outlook. Our ethos is to ‘solve problems using technology’ which allows the team to be agile in its approach. As a business we are not fixed on a specific development stack, it is our mission to explore and investigate the best solution for the relevant brief. This evokes freedom to innovate and provide the most optimised solution for our clients. At Roller, it is embedded into our departments to work collaboratively and this has provided incredible results across the work we produce. Our UX, Product Design, development and testing departments are initiated into the project at the very beginning and work in conjunction with each other throughout the entire process. This team first outlook allows transparency, agility, efficiency and consistency within the product development cycle, giving clients the best possible ROI for the future.’ - MD of Roller Agency, Martin Sandhu

When it comes to the development of your product, your mobile development team is going to be essential in the success of the project. But what specialist technical skills should they have? Which methodologies should they use for product development? What is the best communication method for you and your team? We’ve shared a few key points to look out for that will make your outsourcing experience a positive one: Well Balanced Team You need to make sure that the team you’re outsourcing to has a well balanced set of developers with different capabilities. For whatever your proposed solution requires, it’s important to understand exactly what your chosen development team can action, from the initial design of the build to the finishing touches and launch. For example, if your company planned to create an native cross-platform (iOS and Android) application for to best suit your customers, the mobile development team you work with would need to contain the right range of front and back end developers with experience in Swift, Java, etc... as well as a good quality UX designer. However, if you decide to follow up your first generation app with a marketing website or further work to expand your web presence, your development team should be able to meet your new requirements - saving you the time of outsourcing different elements of your development to different teams in different companies. Transparent Communication Processes and Tools i.e. Slack As work with your mobile development team begins, their method of communication must be one that is easily integrated and accessible for you and your team to interact with them. Communication tools such as Slack is a great way we continuously provide and receive updates, share progress reports and provide feedback to your team, to help you oversee the work is that being carried out. Not only does this allow you to work closer with your development team, it also helps to give you the best idea of when sections of work will be completed, which will help hold them to the project delivery timelines. You have the ability to speak directly to the project lead, and the individual developers, asking questions, raising issues and delivering any necessary feedback in a consistent and time-efficient manner, and any team that encourages this process is promoting a healthy client-facing relationship. Unified Approach to Development and Project Management One of the most important process that your chosen development team can follow is their use of a product development methodology. Utilising systems such as Agile, Scrum and Kanban highlights the agreed process of development that your team will work to, allowing you to pre-emptively understand each section or ‘sprint’ of development, and to understand where each stage of development is in the timeline. These processes will help the development team to create a smooth and practical style of working, that works to suit their schedules, undoubtedly benefitting your end product. (To find out more about the different varieties of methodologies available, we recommend taking a look through this resource: https://www.smartsheet.com/agile-vs-scrum-vs-waterfall-vs-kanban)

Version Control In terms of the technical approaches to the build of your product, ideally the mobile development team you decide to use to outsource should be using Version Control throughout their build process. This file management and adaptation system is one that greatly aids a design process in mobile, as it allows multiple developers to work on the same branch of code, without any conflict, and keeps a secure log of process throughout the build. The use of this system illustrates exactly how your team will be working, the changes they have made, and which stage of development they are reaching in their timeframe - helping you, as the client, to easily track their progress. However, this isn’t the only desired tracking and logging feature your team should be applying… Progress Tracking Using systems such as GitHub or JIRA, your mobile development team should realistically be tracking their own progress in accessible and shared programmes that you can have full oversight of. Whilst the progress logging feature can benefit their development as an internal team, giving each member an insight into the work completed by their teammates, there are many features designed to benefit the client, particularly during the testing stages. Allowing you to register bugs, issues and problems with your product during this phase gives you an easy and time-efficient way to communicate your requirements to your team, and to actively monitor their progress throughout the fix. Stand Ups The implementation of Stand Ups, and particularly client-inclusive Stand Ups, is another great example of how to detect a valuable development team, as they provide essential communication at regular points throughout the mobile development process. Being given the opportunity to catch up with, feed information to and receive updates on your product’s progress is crucial to a success and smoothly-run production. Not only is the internal team given the opportunity to discuss, face-to-face, any issues that might be occurring throughout development, but the external operators, i.e. you, can feed your own input into these daily or weekly meetings. This aids both the product development, as it keeps the entire development team up to date and information, and your relationship with the development team as work continues. Upon hiring the right mobile development team, as CEOs, your needs should feel met, and be reciprocated with positive and innovative ideas for product development and continual improvement. It’s important to feel that your end product has been placed into safe and reliable hands, and that any necessary scaling of that product can be carried out easily and effectively. It can sometimes seem like a time consuming process to outsource work to an external mobile development team to handle the next step of your company’s evolution, and there will always be pros and cons of doing so either way. Some of the best technology and the most successful product development projects happen in partnership with a creative technology agency so it’s worth taking the leap. If you’re looking to secure a reliable and innovative creative technology development team for your next big project, or if you want to know more about the Roller processes and approaches, please get in touch at [email protected].

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://rolleragency.co.uk/blog/key-skills-mobile-development-team-ceos/

We have put down a few top tips of what to look out for when selecting an external agency to partner with. \r\n\r\nWhen selecting this agency, there are a variety of skills and systems that, ideally, you should to be aware of before settling on your chosen development team and agency. At Roller, for example, we pride ourselves on having a fully integrated team of front and back end developers, both web and application developers, meaning that we have the right resources for any project that comes our way. \r\n\r\nRoller MD, Martin Sandhu, shares his thoughts on the most important skills your development team should possess, and what he believes makes the Roller development team so successful: \r\n\r\n‘The development team at Roller takes a solution first outlook. At Roller, it is embedded into our departments to work collaboratively and this has provided incredible results across the work we produce. body
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/fabian-grohs-360566-unsplash.jpg

Over recent years, conversations about the Internet of Things (IoT) have taken centre stage of technology events all over the world. Defined as ‘objects that "talk" to each other’, IoT devices are devices that are connected to the internet, taking the form of devices ranging from smart refrigerators, wifi-connected thermometers and wearable fitness trackers. Although IoT devices have been celebrated and have begun to have commercial opportunity, some flaws have been identified in their fundamental design by the product development community. During London Tech Week 2018, we attended a talk on the benefits of the new release of Android Things 1.0, that addressed not only the issues there currently are with IoT product development, but also how Android Things can be utilised as a tool to work to improve the usability of IoT products. Some of the issues various developers and companies have found is that developing software for IoT devices is difficult due to ongoing security concerns. With the potential threats of cloud and cross border attacks for governments and states across all nations, the internet is looking to become more of a protected or ‘walled’ concept in certain locations, making the concept of IoT devices a challenge. Manufacturers looking to protect their devices and products will therefore have to take responsibility for their own security strategies, investing in their own protection software and using up extensive resources to shield their user data. As security is so often a priority for IoT device manufacturers, particularly with so many potential data threats this year, these issues have been slowing the progression of the Internet of Things as a commercial product. What can Android Things do to counter these problems?

First announced at Google I/O 2015, Android Things was released specifically as an aid to IoT development, meaning that the majority of its functions are designed to provide solutions to the existing flaws of IoT. Described as the tool to do the ‘heavy lifting’ of certified hardware, Android Things has a number of beneficial features for developers and manufacturers to exploit. Security Provided Android Things offers a free strategy for automatically updating your device, free of charge. This presents a huge advantage in terms of security, as Google will provide regular security updates, and around the clock support. For many users, this means their company won’t have to specialise in the security aspect of delivering these products, as Android Things can enable easy to manage OTA (over-the-air) firmware updates regularly for the selected device. SoM & Virtual Boards When first installing Android Things, Google will provide a SoM (System on Module) which is a chip which can be embedded onto a hardware circuit board, by manufacturers, in order to provide the use of the Android Things platform. The SoM’s provided are based on the Production Platforms: NXP i.MX8M, Qualcomm SDA212, Qualcomm SDA624, and MediaTek MT8516, and Development Platforms: NXP Pico i.MX7D and Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. All of these platforms are certified for production, allowing for three year long-term support from Google throughout development. AT also allows developers to build their app on top of a virtual SoM board, saving companies the cost and resources involved in purchasing the physical product. These virtual boards are specifically designed for building in bulk, for high volumes of products, allowing manufacturers the ability and flexibility to see all components of their designs in virtual form.

Developer-Friendly Android Things is designed to be incredibly useful for developers, as it allows them to use existing Android / Google tools to build apps and APIs for their IoT devices. On a larger scale, this also has its uses, as any development company can use their existing Android developers, reducing the need to hire expensive specialist developers. Allowing developers can use the tools already in their skillset such as Android Studio (used primarily for developing Android mobile applications), IoT becomes a lot more accessible and comfortable for experienced developers to utilise. Google Integration One of the most versatile elements of Android Things is that the platform allows you to easily integrate other Google products, such as Assistant, as well. This means an IoT device can be controlled from Google Home, Mini etc, allowing for more user accessibility.

Overall, Android Things has the potential to enhance and undoubtedly support the expansion of IoT development as an innovative and forward-thinking concept, smoothing out the initial bugs and flaws that were holding developers back. Google has identified itself as a supporter of these new, evolutionary technologies, and will hopefully continue to work to improve them for the better in future. If you want to know more about the work Roller does regarding our specialist Android development teams, get in touch at [email protected]. "body": "
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/fabian-grohs-360566-unsplash.jpg

Over recent years, conversations about the Internet of Things (IoT) have taken centre stage of technology events all over the world. Defined as ‘objects that \"talk\" to each other’, IoT devices are devices that are connected to the internet, taking the form of devices ranging from smart refrigerators, wifi-connected thermometers and wearable fitness trackers. \r\n\r\nAlthough IoT devices have been celebrated and have begun to have commercial opportunity, some flaws have been identified in their fundamental design by the product development community. \r\n\r\nDuring London Tech Week 2018, we attended a talk on the benefits of the new release of Android Things 1.0, that addressed not only the issues there currently are with IoT product development, but also how Android Things can be utilised as a tool to work to improve the usability of IoT products. \r\n\r\nSome of the issues various developers and companies have found is that developing software for IoT devices is difficult due to ongoing security concerns. With the potential threats of cloud and cross border attacks for governments and states across all nations, the internet is looking to become more of a protected or ‘walled’ concept in certain locations, making the concept of IoT devices a challenge. \r\n\r\nManufacturers looking to protect their devices and products will therefore have to take responsibility for their own security strategies, investing in their own protection software and using up extensive resources to shield their user data. body
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/597x336.fitandcrop.jpg

Over the past few years, Nottingham has been steadily establishing itself as hub of progressive change, drive and ambition, with key standout successes in technology, healthcare and entrepreneurship. This week Hallam Internet, in collaboration with Framework Housing Charity and alongside sponsors such as WpEngine, MissionRoom, Studio Softbox and NottinghamBID, helped to reinforce this view. Putting together their first ‘digital summit’, in the heart of Nottingham at the Playhouse theatre, Hallam not only managed to raise a fantastic £15,00 donation to Framework through attendance donations, they also put on a brilliant event. With guest speakers from global companies like Google to local brands such as Capital One, the event was a great way for local companies and individuals to meet, network and learn from some of the best in industry. For Roller, as an established Creative Technological Agency, the Digital Summit was a great opportunity for us to explore some of the latest developments in digital marketing and how businesses were using technology to market to their buyers. From brand awareness and UX design to marketing automation and voice activated search, the topics varied throughout the day, and helped to share some important and inspirational messages on the future of digital marketing.
For our team, some of the talks we found engaging were from speakers Kirsty Hulse, of Many Minds, Barry Adams of State of Digital, and Owen Gill, from Hallam Internet. Kirsty’s shared her view on idea generation and the unique way her business works and how she creates ideas, to how to successfully pitch and get potential clients on board with your idea through asking questions. Discussing her process of campaign delivery, she listed some of her favourite affordable strategies, as well as her tips for strong link building practices, introducing the audience to tools such as Fake Instagram Generators and Timeline builders. ‘In order to help content marketing to remain future proof, it needs to have a big, aspirational impact.’ - Kirsty Hulse, Many Minds. From Barry, one of the standout messages was that our devices will continue to know everything about us and will continue to get smarter and more predictive because of it. Google being able to have access to the data we share on the internet was a particularly challenging topic, and a view on why progressive web apps are being pushed forward by Google.
It was also great to hear from one of Hallam’s own employees, showcasing the extent of their knowledge and their knowledge for targeted advertising. Owen delivered an informative, yet engaging talk, teaching the audience the unique possibilities for paid advertising, beacon marketing and offering up the idea that by 2022, 80% of all advertising processes will be automated. Automated marketing, visual language and the use of big data appeared to be the standout themes of the Nottingham Digital Summit, and our team left the event with plenty of new ideas for our future content strategies. The Summit was, undoubtedly, a result of the hard work put in by the team at Hallam Internet, as well as all of their sponsors, collaborators and volunteers, and their ongoing dedication to digital marketing. Our Five Key Takeaways

‘Content Marketing isn’t what you are doing, it’s what you are trying to achieve’ - Kirsty Hulse. Kirsty taught us that the end goal of every campaign is what people will pay attention to, whilst the small steps that you take to reach that goal should be varied, cheap, and diverse. She described that putting too much effort into big, shiny marketing projects can be like putting all of your eggs in one basket - and can often be a bad move.

Contextual triggers are likely to have the biggest commercial impact in future. In Barry’s talk on ‘Search in a screen less world: how voice search & contextual triggers change everything’, we learnt that there are many external factors that are going to affect how search functions and mobile prompts are activated which will ultimately create a more personalised service for users everywhere.

‘Steal with Pride’ - Through her ‘fireside chat’, Meaghan Rogers delivered an insight into the way that Google employees work collaboratively, by sharing all content with each other through Google Drive. Every idea is shared to Google Drive and Google employees can have immediate access and insight into other teams projects, so that it can be worked on and improved upon without ever needing to start from a blank slate.

‘Design with people, not for people’ - Gavin Holland, Capital One. Gavin’s presentation on Great Inclusive Design Processes discussed issues of collaborative working and creating the essential relationship between a creator and user when it comes to UX design. His talk reminded the audience the importance of the creation of a united end goal, and the idea that a shared vision for ‘success’ is crucial for good quality product delivery.

A bad digital experience can be fatal. Through her talk on ‘Looking through a new digital lens’, Rachel Starling described some of the experiences she had when designing a product page for the new Speedo Goggles. Citing that ‘88% of consumers won’t return to a site after a bad experience’, her presentation clearly illustrated just how much first impressions matter, and why we should be paying so much attention to flawless CX.

Overall, the Digital Summit was a fantastic event with so many brilliant speakers, we can’t wait for next year’s event! Discussing her process of campaign delivery, she listed some of her favourite affordable strategies, as well as her tips for strong link building practices, introducing the audience to tools such as Fake Instagram Generators and Timeline builders.\r\n\r\n‘In order to help content marketing to remain future proof, it needs to have a big, aspirational impact.’ - Kirsty Hulse, Many Minds. \r\n\r\nFrom Barry, one of the standout messages was that our devices will continue to know everything about us and will continue to get smarter and more predictive because of it. Google being able to have access to the data we share on the internet was a particularly challenging topic, and a view on why progressive web apps are being pushed forward by Google.\r\n\r\n
\r\n\r\nIt was also great to hear from one of Hallam’s own employees, showcasing the extent of their knowledge and their knowledge for targeted advertising. Owen delivered an informative, yet engaging talk, teaching the audience the unique possibilities for paid advertising, beacon marketing and offering up the idea that by 2022, 80% of all advertising processes will be automated. \r\n\r\nAutomated marketing, visual language and the use of big data appeared to be the standout themes of the Nottingham Digital Summit, and our team left the event with plenty of new ideas for our future content strategies. The Summit was, undoubtedly, a result of the hard work put in by the team at Hallam Internet, as well as all of their sponsors, collaborators and volunteers, and their ongoing dedication to digital marketing. \r\n\r\nOur Five Key Takeaways\r\n
\r\n \t
‘Content Marketing isn’t what you are doing, it’s what you are trying to achieve’ - Kirsty Hulse. Kirsty taught us that the end goal of every campaign is what people will pay attention to, whilst the small steps that you take to reach that goal should be varied, cheap, and diverse. She described that putting too much effort into big, shiny marketing projects can be like putting all of your eggs in one basket - and can often be a bad move.
\r\n \t
Contextual triggers are likely to have the biggest commercial impact in future. In Barry’s talk on ‘Search in a screen less world: how voice search & contextual triggers change everything’, we learnt that there are many external factors that are going to affect how search functions and mobile prompts are activated which will ultimately create a more personalised service for users everywhere.
\r\n \t
‘Steal with Pride’ - Through her ‘fireside chat’, Meaghan Rogers delivered an insight into the way that Google employees work collaboratively, by sharing all content with each other through Google Drive. Every idea is shared to Google Drive and Google employees can have immediate access and insight into other teams projects, so that it can be worked on and improved upon without ever needing to start from a blank slate.
\r\n \t
‘Design with people, not for people’ - Gavin Holland, Capital One. Gavin’s presentation on Great Inclusive Design Processes discussed issues of collaborative working and creating the essential relationship between a creator and user when it comes to UX design. His talk reminded the audience the importance of the creation of a united end goal, and the idea that a shared vision for ‘success’ is crucial for good quality product delivery.
\r\n \t
A bad digital experience can be fatal. Through her talk on ‘Looking through a new digital lens’, Rachel Starling described some of the experiences she had when designing a product page for the new Speedo Goggles. Citing that ‘88% of consumers won’t return to a site after a bad experience’, her presentation clearly illustrated just how much first impressions matter, and why we should be paying so much attention to flawless CX.

\r\n
\r\nOverall, the Digital Summit was a fantastic event with so many brilliant speakers, we can’t wait for next year’s event! \r\n\r\nTo find out more about our experiences at the Nottingham Digital Summit 2018, make sure you catch up with us on our socials. body
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/aviation-flight-helicopter-104757.jpg

Recently, as our team travelled down to London for Tech Week 2018, we got the chance to explore how technology is impacting multiple industries. From Sheffield Robotics and their empathic robotic rabbits to the fire safety training VR headsets, the technology on display was incredibly diverse. One industry in particular that appeared to have an incredible range of technology on show during London Tech Week was the emergency services, as their immersive and eye-catching exhibitions aimed to educate how technology is impacting and improving their life-saving work. An example of one of the new technologies aiding the emergency services was showcased by the Leicester Fire Department and RiVR, for their upcoming training regimes. Demonstrating just one of the benefits of Virtual Reality for training programs, technicians have engineered a VR programme and kit designed to help trainee fire service workers to immerse themselves in a typical fire scenario without needing to leave their station. Strapped into a portable device, with a lightweight headset and small handheld controllers, the VR programme allows the user to explore a burned out building, practice fire safety techniques in a simulated space, and even approach and interact with a burn victim safely. Created using over one thousand images of burn scenes and crime scenes, and simulated experiences, the experience is designed to be as realistic as possible - presenting an accessible, evolutionary and budget-friendly alternative to on-the-ground training.
Another contribution to technology designed for the emergency services was the inclusion of a new design of mobile phone for the police forces. Combining the designs of the typical walkie talkie shoulder devices worn by the police today, and the slimmer, hand-held devices of the modern mobile phone, British police forces are working with developers to create something versatile for all scenarios. Speaking to ESN (Emergency Services Network for the Home Office), we discovered that a new form of practical UX is being implemented, as sleek and easy to manoeuvre devices are planned to help the police forces stay agile, yet up to date with modern and user friendly devices. One of the most engaging technologies we discovered at London Tech Week 2018 was the Sheffield Robotics display of their wellbeing robotics. Inspired by the robotic seal that dominated headlines for its use in comforting the elderly generations, Sheffield Robotics and Consequential Robotics presented the MiRo autonomous robotic rabbit at London Tech Week 2018. The small, fully programmable rabbits come with an inbuilt ‘six senses’, designed to respond to human touch, with colour-changing software underneath their plastic casing to display particular emotions
The newest forms of technology emerging in 2018 has the potential to positively impact every industry and sector of healthcare, emergency services and emotional care, from it’s insights into VR fire training, to the microrobotics of autonomous wellness rabbits. If you would like to find out more about our experiences at London Tech Week, or to speak to one of our team about any development projects you have in mind, please get in touch with us at [email protected]!

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://rolleragency.co.uk/blog/technology-impacting-emergency-services-2/

body
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/DSC01838-2.jpg

Last week, the Roller team headed down to London for London Tech Week 2018. Spending four days exploring the ExCel, attending talks and events, and taking part in innovative workshops located across London, we got the chance to immerse ourselves in some of the most promising and inventive uses of technology of 2018. So, as we’re now back in the Roller office, we thought we would highlight some of the topics we found the most exciting on our trip.
This year, organisers of London Tech Week focused the event around one key theme, ‘Change Makers’; promoting the idea that London, and the wider UK tech scene, is bustling with confident change makers, who are ready to create world class technology to create ‘tangible difference to business and society’. Sadik Khan opened the headlining event by encouraging young Londoners to be ‘bold, brave and confident enough to try new things’, a battle cry for the youth of today to get involved with entrepreneurship specifically in the technology industry. The theme of talent, change and improving existing technological developments ran throughout the entire event, from the stalls in the exhibition hall to the talks across the city. Diversity and Inclusion ‘Pioneer Party, Champion Diversity, Be a Changemaker’ A topic that the entire Roller team feels passionate about is diversity and inclusion in the technology industry. As a significant feature on their headlining Main Stage was the Inclusive Innovation track on Wednesday afternoon, running talks and panel discussions focusing on how organisations can rethink their current take on inclusivity. Various industry leaders of diverse backgrounds were gathered to speak on why it is so important to encourage a diverse workforce, not only for workplace culture but also for the success of businesses.
One of the most interesting talks we heard was from Gary Stewart, the Director of Wayra UK and Telefónica Open Future_ (UK), who passionately shared that the fight for workplace diversity needs to be more than just gender. He continued his emotive and personal talk by commenting on how inclusivity drives need to focus on intersectionality and inviting everyone, not only white middle class women, to join in on the conversation. We also attended the Diversity in Tech event on Thursday evening, as put together by Handle Recruitment and Kobalt Music, in their new impressive head offices, to experience their panel talk on diversity and inclusivity in recruitment. A mixture of networking, impassioned Q&A sessions and panel discussions from representatives from not just Handle and Kobalt, but BAME recruitment as well, the event was a stand out for us. Exploring questions such as ‘why don’t we have diversity in recruitment’, ‘how can we hire diversely without excluding the majority’ and ‘what can we do to encourage further diversity in our hiring process’, the speakers and audience alike were full of answers and inspiring remarks on every angle of diversity.
‘Diversity is like being invited to a party, inclusivity is like being asked to dance’. - Dawn James, Kobalt Music.
Mixed Realities
Another exciting element of tech week was the opportunity to hear from people who are using mixed realities technologies, i.e. Augmented Reality (AR), Augmented Virtuality (AV) and Virtual Reality (VR), in new and exciting ways. Education, training and gaming still seem to be the top uses of these emerging technologies, yet the mood music when speaking with companies using these technologies is that as advances are made in the hardware, the cost will come down. This means that mixed reality technologies will become increasingly popular as businesses will be able to invest in developing complementary software products. Never forgetting the ethical considerations, we also heard from academics, business people and creatives about how to care for users and their safety in a virtual environment and how product developers need to consider building in safety measures as standard. We even got the chance to explore how the emergency services is beginning to explore connections with VR and AR technologies, through immersive training programmes and positive user friendly devices. Artificial Intelligence - What is All The Fuss About?

Artificial Intelligence, also known as Machine Learning, is such a broad and all encompassing term it was no wonder it got an entire hall in the ExCel dedicated to it.
As we discovered throughout Tech Week, integrating elements of AI within technology will mean that technology solutions can provide us with data that enables proactive rather than reactive decision making alongside generating prescriptive data outcomes. We heard from many businesses that AI will start to be included in analytics applications as standard over the next 3 - 5 years. Using AI within the sales and marketing fields will become a lot more commonplace, given that marketers are looking for more intelligent and data-driven ways to engage with customers and buyers. One of the most fun and entertaining uses of AI we discovered was a facial recognition AI system called TasteFace that could tell if you were a lover or a hater of Marmite, from the creative agency AnalogFolk. Several members of our team got the chance to conduct their own taste test, exploring just how engaging and effective AI marketing campaigns could be. The TasteFace stand was located alongside an impressive Microsoft x Great Ormond Street Hospital stand, which highlighted multiple technologies utilising gaming and data science to benefit patient experience and outcomes, including the Great Ormond Street Hospital made within Minecraft. We really enjoyed our time at London Tech Week 2018, and we have so many new insights and avenues to explore when it comes to innovative technologies in London right now. In even more exciting news, following on from the success of our Christmas Retail Trends project, we’ve decided to undertake a summer Technology Trends document this year! "body": "
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/DSC01838-2.jpg

Last week, the Roller team headed down to London for London Tech Week 2018. Spending four days exploring the ExCel, attending talks and events, and taking part in innovative workshops located across London, we got the chance to immerse ourselves in some of the most promising and inventive uses of technology of 2018. \r\n\r\nSo, as we’re now back in the Roller office, we thought we would highlight some of the topics we found the most exciting on our trip. \r\n\r\n
This year, organisers of London Tech Week focused the event around one key theme, ‘Change Makers’; promoting the idea that London, and the wider UK tech scene, is bustling with confident change makers, who are ready to create world class technology to create ‘tangible difference to business and society’. \r\n\r\nSadik Khan opened the headlining event by encouraging young Londoners to be ‘bold, brave and confident enough to try new things’, a battle cry for the youth of today to get involved with entrepreneurship specifically in the technology industry. The theme of talent, change and improving existing technological developments ran throughout the entire event, from the stalls in the exhibition hall to the talks across the city.\r\n\r\nDiversity and Inclusion ‘Pioneer Party, Champion Diversity, Be a Changemaker’ \r\n\r\nA topic that the entire Roller team feels passionate about is diversity and inclusion in the technology industry.
\r\n\r\nWe also attended the Diversity in Tech event on Thursday evening, as put together by Handle Recruitment and Kobalt Music, in their new impressive head offices, to experience their panel talk on diversity and inclusivity in recruitment. body
http://rolleragency.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/yulia-chinato-33866-unsplash.jpg

As our Roller team has been at London Tech Week 2018 this week, we wanted to highlight some of the newest innovative technology our capital city has produced recently. A city of culture and evolution, London is one of the most creative spaces for British technology, and is at the forefront of creating and adopting new and exciting technologies. London is known worldwide for its experimental nature, and unique approach to embracing the latest in home, work and entertainment technology. Recently, in the build up to Tech Week, some truly innovative collaborations and product launches have been revealed, and we wanted to highlight a few of our favourites. Smarter London Together In a press release published earlier this week, it was disclosed that the Mayor of London is unveiling a plan to make London the ‘Smartest City In The World’. Describing the city’s future as a ‘global test-bed city for innovation’, the Mayor promises to launch programmes such as the Civic Innovation Centre, the London Office for Data Analytics, a Connected London programme and an increase in drives for MedTech in the press release. He also discussed a proposed strong focus on showcasing and encouraging new technologies in a wide variety of sectors, including travel, health, sport and the environment, and on specific areas such as Digital Greenwich and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Even some previously unexplored areas of London culture, such as policing and safety, are going to be introduced to technology and influenced by new changes to bodywear, evidence gathering and body beacon trackers. This general summary of the conscious re-focusing of technology in London really summarises its potential to be a stand out global city when it comes to innovative tech. Solar Powered SkyScrapers
As England becomes more and more focussed on protecting our environments and making London a more eco-friendly place to live and work, cleantech Cambridge-based company Polysolar has begun to transform major city buildings into solar panelled stations. From a Canary Wharf Bus Station to a supermarket petrol station, glass social panels are already being installed to encourage a cleaner way of life in the city. With over 500 skyscrapers planned for construction in London over the next few years, Polysolar is currently running a crowdfunding campaign to transform more and more buildings into solar power stations. Creating plans for delivering additional products, such as electric car charging and battery storage, MD Hamish Watson plans to invest over £1.5m into this new venture, hopefully allowing technology and the environment to work together for the better in future. Dockless Bike Sharing Introducing the latest alternative to the traditional city Boris Bikes, Ofo Bikes and Mobikes are the new technological travel product to be embraced by London. Dockless and hi-tech, these bikes are all hired via an app, and all have various pieces of sports tech embedded into their designs. From a Bluetooth locking system to motion activated rear lights, these bikes are creatively imagined to be both secure and smart. What makes these bikes even more innovative is their QR code unlock system - ensuring that only those who have authentically paid and hired their bikes can use them, and with the app containing an inbuilt map and tracking location, these products are set to help London’s commuters feel that little bit more protected. Safe and the City
Developed as a startup product, Safe and the City is one of the most innovative safety devices in London at the moment - designed to help protect people in rough or ‘red flag’ areas of the city. Created by CEO Jillian Kowalchuk, the app is formatted to help users to navigate their way safely around London, avoiding potentially ‘harassment prone’ alleyways, neighbours and tunnels. With input from the Metropolitan Police, Safe and the City offers an alternative to Google or Apple Maps, with added features such as emergency calling, crime statistics and even descriptions such as ‘light quality’ ‘volume of people nearby’ etc… Helping to protect and educate the residents and tourists of London, this product shows both an innovative use of handheld technology, but also a city-specific awareness of how tech can be used to protect. Moorfields Eye Hospital & Google DeepMind Implemented in a major London eye treatment hospital, Google DeepMind has been used to innovatively deepen and improve the retinal scanning facilities of the current hospital equipment. Working with leading eye-care specialists and researchers, DeepMind and AI are being used with the aim of providing earlier detection, and earlier treatment, for major eye diseases and ailments. Using over 1 million existing scans to create a database for DeepMind to work with, the device is able to diagnose and analyse scans in a much faster and more detailed capacity than human doctors, allowing for more time to treat and care for the problem. Medtech is one of the biggest hybrid sectors in the industry, and it’s no surprise that London has been one of the first cities in the UK to experiment with these new healthcare technologies. Over the years London has been given various titles in relation to technology; from the ‘Prop Tech Capital’ to the ‘Undisputed Tech Capital of Europe’. Staying true to these nicknames, these innovative examples of technological development in the city only serve to support that claim. We have enjoyed being immersed in the London technology scene at London for London Tech Week 2018 and we are excited to see how this thriving community can pave the way for technology innovation across the country. If you want to catch up with our Roller team about how we can help you make your idea a reality, make sure to drop us at email at: [email protected]!

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://rolleragency.co.uk/blog/innovative-london-technology/

A city of culture and evolution, London is one of the most creative spaces for British technology, and is at the forefront of creating and adopting new and exciting technologies. London is known worldwide for its experimental nature, and unique approach to embracing the latest in home, work and entertainment technology. \r\n\r\nRecently, in the build up to Tech Week, some truly innovative collaborations and product launches have been revealed, and we wanted to highlight a few of our favourites. \r\n\r\nSmarter London Together \r\n\r\nIn a press release published earlier this week, it was disclosed that the Mayor of London is unveiling a plan to make London the ‘Smartest City In The World’. \r\n\r\nSolar Powered SkyScrapers\r\n\r\n
\r\n\r\nAs England becomes more and more focussed on protecting our environments and making London a more eco-friendly place to live and work, cleantech Cambridge-based company Polysolar has begun to transform major city buildings into solar panelled stations. \r\n\r\nDockless Bike Sharing\r\n\r\nIntroducing the latest alternative to the traditional city Boris Bikes, Ofo Bikes and Mobikes are the new technological travel product to be embraced by London. \r\n\r\nSafe and the City \r\n\r\n
\r\n\r\nDeveloped as a startup product, Safe and the City is one of the most innovative safety devices in London at the moment - designed to help protect people in rough or ‘red flag’ areas of the city.
