Whether or not Zionists writing about Palestine on Quora have \"bad intent, are lying or having a fake identity\" is capable of being proven true or false. Whenever I point that out, I do not make unsupported pejorative statements but rather reasoned arguments with citations. Similarly, your statement, \"if you write a lot of content that is anti-Zionist [racist] and then call out people for being Zionists [racists], then you're using this term in pejorative way with the intent to derogatorily label that person\". </p>\n\n<p>Zionism is a specific ideology that has defined parameters, as I explain in my answer \"Who is a Zionist?\"(https://www.quora.com/Who-is-a-Zionist/answer/Rima-Najjar)? \"A Zionist is a person of any religion whose beliefs, for whatever reason, center on the idea of the ingathering of Jews from around the world in one place, specifically Palestine. A Zionist believes Palestine belongs to Jews worldwide, rather than to its indigenous people regardless of their religion or ethnicity.\"</p>\n\n<p>Describing someone as a Zionist is therefore not name-calling but rather referencing that ideology. The fact that I have negative feelings about the ideology because of its effect on the human rights of Palestinians does not render my use of the term pejorative if the label is accurate-- in other words, if what the person is saying is consistent with that defined ideology. Conversely, if someone were to describe me as an anti-Zionist, that term would not be derogatory even if that person has negative feelings towards anti-Zionism, because the label would be accurate. Similarly, if a Zionist writes a lot of content that is anti-Palestinian but then \"calls someone out\" for being \"Palestinian,\" by your logic they are using the term in a pejorative way and should be banned. But whether or not someone is Palestinian is a question of fact.</p>\n\n<p>Quora does not use neutral criteria to determine what is or is not pejorative. Instead, content is continually flagged and collapsed “by mistake” based on what does and does not make Zionists feel uncomfortable, which amounts to censorship. The Quora functions is that it depends on Quorans to report content that violates BNBR rules. When it comes to the topic of Palestine/Israel, the situation right now is that there are organized efforts at malicious reporting and not enough people on the Palestinian side to keep up with reporting the vicious misinformation and violations of BNBR rules being churned out daily.</p>\n\n<p>As for your statement that I accused someone of assuming a fake identity, I concede that this was a violation of the BNBR policy but contend that the policy is unreasonable when the writer is able to cite reasons for the accusation rather than simply using the accusation as an ad hominem attack. I came to the conclusion that \"Sana Khoury\" was either brainwashed by the hasbara environment on Quora or is not who she claimed to be—a 16-year old Christian Palestinian from Beit Sahour—based on a careful analysis of what she posted on her account on Quora. My public statements about her identity explained my reasoning and provided her the opportunity to respond. </p>\n\n<p>What is most troubling to me about this ban is that by preventing me from making accurate statements simply because there is a subjective negative association with them undermines Quora's ability to maintain factual content. Since Quora makes its impact through google searches, an impact derived from the question/answer format itself and because now Quora has ads, answers are pushed to the top of a google search. If Quora is going to present itself as presenting objectively verifiable facts in response to questions, it should not ban people simply because they question the sincerity of users or use accurate descriptive terms while engaging with them. What is insidious about it is the false official position that the application of Quora civility rules is not itself politicized. </p>\n\n<p>And finally, I'd like to say that it is disappointing to me that despite your position as a “Writer Relations” administrator, the first time I hear from you is when you are communicating to me about my having been banned, despite my hundreds of informative and popular questions and answers which filled a void on Quora, and despite my numerous attempts to engage with Quora and with you specifically about BNBR rules and moderation decisions. </p>\n\n<p><br />\nSincerely,</p>\n\n<p>Rima Najjar </p>\n\n<p>_____________________<br />\n<br />\nP.S.       "body": "![amputate2.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYo2AT4Sy4PGNxaLviW37biNttdH874zyjba8EvdT3Gvw/amputate2.png)\n\nIt isn’t just Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist political (and militant) party in Gaza, that is having a hard time accepting the reality of Israel — a state forcibly established on part of Palestine in 1948 and now in control of all of Mandate <a href=\"https://www.britannica.com/place/Palestine\">Palestine</a>.\n\nSince that time, Palestinians have been trying, in various ways, most notably in the last couple of decades through the so-called “peace process”, to accept Israel while retaining a vestige of dignity.\n\nNone of it has worked out, because accepting the reality of Israel as a Jewish state <a href=\"https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2011/09/201192614417586774.html\">means</a> giving up their fundamental human rights — to self-determination and equality in their own homeland, their rights to return and restitution. \n \nFateh (Mahmoud Abbas’s political party) has bungled the job so badly that Gideon Levy wrote in <a href=\"https://www.haaretz.com/middle-east-news/palestinians/.premium-biography-makes-it-clear-this-palestinian-leftist-leader-was-right-1.5994244\">Haartez</a> recently,\n\n<Blockquote>… it would have been better to follow the uncompromising path taken by [George] Habash [founder of left-wing secular nationalist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)], who for most of his life didn’t agree to any negotiations with Israel, who believed that with Israel it was only possible to negotiate by force, who thought Israel would only change its positions if it paid a price, who dreamed of a single, democratic and secular state of equal rights and refused to discuss anything but that.</Blockquote>\n\nExpecting anything other than a continuing struggle for liberation from Palestinians means denying that the <a href=\"https://jewishvoiceforpeace.org/facing-the-nakba/\">Nakba</a> has ever existed and denying that Palestinians have a right to resist injustice.\n\nRegardless of their political affiliation or whether they are currently in Gaza, in the West Bank, citizens of Israel or exiles and refugees, Palestinians understand, as Ali Abunimah <a href=\"https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/europes-air-forces-help-celebrate-israels-destruction-palestine\">put it</a>, that “Israel’s so-called independence was not a liberation but a violent conquest that has <a href=\"https://electronicintifada.net/content/resisting-nakba/7518\">never paused or ended</a>.”\n\nIf you understand that, then it is easy to understand the magnificence of Gaza’s indomitable and defiant <a href=\"https://countercurrents.org/2018/04/18/gazas-magnificence/\">stand</a>— even on amputated legs:\n\n<Blockquote>…in Gaza, the Great March of Return defies the siege, the assaults, the imprisonments, the mass impoverishment with a festival of courage and non-violence; there are reading chains, football, handball, chess matches, girls dance dabka in traditional dresses, boys show off feats of parkour, grandmothers bake taboon on campfires for the masses, women prepare sweets, mothers and sons carry tyres for burning, clowns delight kids, medics and stretchers at the ready, thousands pray ṣalāt al-maġrib at dusk, children share dreams with Martin Luther King, flags, kites and balloons adorn the sky, a donkey is draped with the Israeli flag, a child’s birthday party is celebrated, wedding guests and groom arrive, homework is completed, the ingenuity of tear gas masks, the wounded bandaged and bold return to the front lines…</Blockquote>\n\nJust as we admire Don Quixote for his un-sensible chivalry, we admire the the sacrifices of the brave men and women, indeed the children, of Gaza, who may not be reviving knight-errantry, but who are certainly on a mission to revive the idea Palestine.\n\nPalestine, as Edward Said described it, is a “a noble ideal, a moral quest”. What’s happening there is a well-kept secret in the international media, along with Israel’s other ongoing crimes. \n\nBut within Israel, Umm al-Hiran (and other ethnic-cleansing projects taking place today in the Naqab and the Jordan Valley) is run-of-the-mill news coated with hasbara that doesn’t flinch even at an image like the one, following, of Ayman Odeh, an Israeli Member of Knesset (MK) who was shot in the head and back with sponge rounds by Israeli police in January 2017, as he and others protested the plans to<a href=\"http://imemc.org/article/350-people-to-be-left-homeless-when-israel-demolishes-entire-bedouin-village-of-umm-al-hiran-in-april/\"> raze this village</a>.\n\n![Ayman-wounded-w-cops-lighter.jpeg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVPT9jWJUcZvx9ChHss33nakcpt7UH4tWRqzGVZmdday7/Ayman-wounded-w-cops-lighter.jpeg)\n\nRazing this village and forcibly transferring its inhabitants elsewhere is bad enough. Israel’s declared reason for doing so is worse. It’s to build housing units there for Jews in its never-ending quest to populate Arab Palestine with Jews and depopulate it of Arabs. \n\nIsrael's mission and reason for being necessitates continuous ethnic cleansing of Palestinian Arabs from their homes and the daylight robbery of their lands and property, transferring them to Jews. \n\nThere is a direct line from the <a href=\"https://www.jta.org/1929/08/09/archive/zionist-congress-approves-text-of-jewish-agency-constitution\"> Jewish Agency </a>, which laundered its robberies through the Jewish National Fund before the Nakba, and the present Israel government that claims Palestinian land and property as the “inalienable property of the Jewish people”.\n\nWhat's happening to us Palestinians is an ongoing Jewish-state Nakba. A straight line connects what is happening in Um al-Hiran right now and what happened to my grandfather and father in Lifta in 1948.  \n\nBy using a passport of some Western country that allows them entry as tourists, many Palestinians who find their way back to their homeland, now self-styled the Jewish state,  have knocked on the door of homes that are still standing and occupied by Jews.  They get different reactions from these Jews and write about their heart-wrenching experiences.\n\nWhen I had this opportunity to visit my great grandfather's house in upper Lifta, which is still standing and occupied by Jews as you can see from the photo on top, I gazed at it and took pictures from across the street but did not knock, daunted by the sight of a mother struggling with a child's stroller trying to get to the second storey apartment (the house has been cut up into several apartments).\n\nThe reactions by the Jews now living in or on Palestinian property to their rightful owners when the latter happen to appear vary – from hostility and suspicion to helplessness and disbelief.\n\nThe disbelief comes from being so long in ignorance, having been brainwashed by Zionist ideology since birth.\n\nI wonder, though, about the Jews slated to live on the ruins of Umm al-Hiran.  Will they not know?  Will they feel no shame?  \n\nOr will they have zero empathy and no shame like Eden Wiseman, Roni Rotem, Nitzan Lederman, Maayan Cohen Marciano, Adi Shildan and Maia Halter?  \n\nThese names are of the Israeli dancers whose application to dance at “Feminine Tripper”, a <a href=\"https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-5181105,00.html \">dance festival</a> held in Oslo, Norway, was rejected on the grounds that Israel uses culture to whitewash its crimes against Palestinians.\n\nThe letter invited these Jewish Israeli dancers to empathize with artists \n\n<Blockquote>from the occupied Palestinian territories struggle with very restricted access to travel to international art venues and that they have little opportunity to communicate their art outside of the occupied territories.\n… We appreciate your artistic project and hope to have the opportunity to invite you to Norway again once the political circumstances have changed. We hope that you—as artists—will help raise awareness in your society about the concern many of us artists and cultural workers around the world have about the brutal effects of the occupation on Palestinian artists and the rest of the population.</Blockquote>\n\nSuch a hope on the part of the festival organizers in Oslo was dashed when these young Jews responded by making the argument that they themselves are <a href=\"https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-5181105,00.html\">victims</a>, fighting “in order to obtain their freedom of speech and expression due to recent censorship attempts by the Israeli minister of culture” with not even one word for or about Palestinians in their whole sorry response.  \n\nIn their Israeli Jewish world, Palestinians are, at best, ghosts.  These young Jews are indeed victims of the Zionist state, but not as they conceive it.\n\nPhilip Weiss <a href=\"http://mondoweiss.net/2018/03/officially-terrified-israel/\">wrote</a> recently about the panic engendered in older Jews like Ron Lauder, the head of the World Jewish Congress, David Harris of the American Jewish Committee and Senator Chuck Schumer by young Jews in the US who are “not persuaded of the value of the great Jewish project of the last century, Israel.”\n\nWill young Israeli Jews ever get there as well?  We need to keep reassuring them that our inevitable return will not dislocate their lives much.
