| body | I was on my way home from my daily vax appointment when I came across some freedumb protesters. My heart started beating intensely; I knew it wasn’t just climate change. They were obviously unmasked and the racists likely haven't even had a booster in the last week. I feared that some of them may even be the guardians of the unmasked child at my non-binary 3 year old's playschool. I may have to consider a 15th trimester abortion. I recoil at the sight of their unpunctured upper arms. I knew I needed to speak the truth in the name of Phauci, the Science, and victims everywhere. Even though they didn’t tell me their pronouns, I confronted them. I shrewdly explained to them that they are being selfish and that they must learn to accept the Scientific truth. I told them that Science can only be administered by persons in authority. They knew I was right so they got in their highly-pollutant SUVs and left. I couldn’t just stand by and let them emit so much co2 without consequence, so I offset their carbon emissions by walking home and planting 5 trees on the way. I had to pick up some local organic vegan GMO-free soy gluten-free eco-friendly sustainably made products for Gaylord, my non-binary 3 year old, as I haven’t chest fed xer since shortly after my natal body choice. Xer courage to be xer true self inspires me to keep pushing for menstrual equality. As a birthing person, I’m glad I haven’t chosen to abort xer, even though xer’s melanin is not above pro-slavery levels. Xi also refuses to eat food grown outside of Ukraine for obvious reasons. I finally get to my carbon neutral commune. I notice I’m not feeling devout and realize others may not be aware of how virtuous I am for supporting the current thing in at least a few hours. I turn on the holy sermons on CNN. I breathe a sigh of relief when I find out that I’m still worried about Putin’s price manipulation and long covid. I’m planning on attending a peaceful protest tomorrow where we plan on destroying private property until black lives matter! |

| title | 5 Voluntaryist arguments against "If you don't like it- leave" |
| body | As voluntaryists, we've all had this conversation: **Me**: "Government is immoral because it takes your wealth by force" **Them**: "Social Contract" **Me**: "I never signed a social contract, a contract that states your responsibilities from birth is slavery, find me a copy of this contract and I will immediately concede" ([As an aside, I made a copy of the social contract here](https://steemit.com/anarchism/@ritherz/the-social-contract)) **Them**: "If you don't like it you can leave" "If you don't like it you can leave" is a cliche that is often used to counter a political argument that one does not agree with. I have been a voluntaryist for over 5 years, and I have found voluntaryism's response lacking in convincingness. So I wrote up this blog as help for myself and others when we inevitably encounter this cliche.

Firstly, note that it is designed to throw you off the moral high ground. It does not address the point that government action is immoral. It is a ["Thought-Terminating Cliche"](http://jorgenmodin.net/index_html/wikpedias-now-deleted-page-on-thought-terminating-cliche) in other words- a way to shut down the conversation. In order of least convincing to most convincing, here are some arguments against the love it or leave it cliche: 1. "**Property is acquired through trade or homesteading**", the government didn't acquire it this way, so it does not truly own the land and therefor me leaving doesn't have anything to do with the immorality. While technically true, this is not convincing to a layman. No one wants to get into the nitty-gritty of homesteading, neither do most voluntaryists either. This is **the worst argument** to make to a layman. 2. **There is no where in the world that exists that embraces voluntary interactions**- so until it exists, there's little point leaving one state for another. This isn't very convincing to someone who believes in democracy, and it allows the person you're talking with to side-step the issue of morality. However, if a free society ever does become a reality in my lifetime, I'll be one of the first to move there (eagerly anticipating http://freesociety.com) 3. **Is this something you would say to a wife complaining of an abusive husband? Is it something you'd say to someone complaining of a stalker?** In other words- apply the logic of "if you don't like it you can leave" to other areas. Many will respond with "no" because it sounds cruel to tell to a victim that they are at fault. But some will respond with yes. You absolutely can leave bad situations, it might be the ideal way to deal with bad situations. However, it does not excuse the stalker or abusive husband from their bad behavior. 4. "**Does it matter if I can leave? The immorality still exists if I leave**". This is much better, stick to the moral high ground, don't forget that **the point is the immorality, and NOT how one might mitigate it.** 5. "**Is this something you would say to Martin-Luther King? Is it something you'd say to Ghandi?**". Apply the logic of "if you don't like it you can leave" to a moral hero that advanced human civilization. The winner is a 1-2 punch of #4+#5 something along the lines of: **If I leave, the immorality continues. I doubt you would say "If you don't like it, leave" to Ghandi or Martin-Luther King in the face of the wrongs they fought?** The greatest moral advancements in history have been due, in large part, to individuals who don't back down from the immorality if the issue they are fighting for. |

| title | Robber Barons: Buying out your competition is DEMAND for competition |
| body | John D. Rockefeller, the "robber baron" monopolist who created Standard Oil in the late 1800s, was able to acquire 90% market share. We're told that he bought up all the competition and no one could compete against him. He was greedy and at his height, he owned 90% of the market share! Something had to be done! Conveniently, this story leaves out the fact that he dropped the price of oil from 58cents to 8cents per gallon. Which is fantastically good for ALL industries and improved the quality of life of almost everyone in that era. Let alone saving the whales by making kerosene lamps cheaper than candles made from whale blubber.

Rockefeller did indeed buy up much of his competition. Let us pretend that he was a greedy capitalist who only bought up competition so that he could raise prices in the long run, and that all his competition wanted to sell to him, and there were no stubborn owners who didn't want to sell, etc, etc. Those with a shrewd eye may realize that his purchases are **DEMAND** for oil businesses. Predictably, supply met that demand. In fact, many successful businesses were created for the purpose of creating companies that were to be sold to Standard Oil. In this beautiful way, no person could possibly gain non-coercive monopoly by buying up competition. Simply put: In a free market, buying out your competition is DEMAND for competition. |

| title | THE Social Contract |
| body |

Social Contract

Dated ________________ among [ ________________ ] *(The Citizen)* and [ ________________ ] *(The State)*

Section 1 - Definition of Certain Terms Used Herein
As used herein, the following terms shall have the following meanings: **Excessive force** shall mean any amount of aggressive violence, including any of the following: kidnapping, jailtime, or murder. **Taxation** shall mean a legitimate claim to any amount of moneys from the citizen. The state is entitled to collect the moneys it claims by EXCESSIVE FORCE if necessary. The amount of moneys collected will be arbitrated by the state. See SECTION 2 for more detail. **Law** shall mean any action taken by a citizen that offends the state. The state writes these offenses into a LAW. These offenses are enforcible by EXCESSIVE FORCE. **State-Sponsored Monopoly** shall mean a business made up of citizens that has paid enough tithe to the state to be granted special privileges. The state may grant some of it's powers to this business, such as the ability to write offenses into LAWS. The above definitions are used when a term is in ALL CAPS.
Section 2 - Taxation
The citizen accepts that the state is morally permitted to claim any amount of moneys from the citizen and collect them using EXCESSIVE FORCE. The state recognizes that this is highly contentious, so it will arbitrate and rule on any disputes.
Section 3 - Self-Ownership
The citizen relinquishes self-ownership of themselves to the state. The state may decide what the citizen does with his body, labour, and actions. This is enforcable by EXCESSIVE FORCE.
Section 4 - Constitution
The state will provide it's attached constitution as a guarantee that it will not grow too big. There is no penalty for the state if it does not follow it's constitution.
Section 5 - War
If the state feels threatened by another state, the citizen may be drafted into an army and forced to murder people from a different state. If the citizen refuses, the state may use EXCESSIVE FORCE. The war's duration is determined by the state. The individual shall not be morally culpible for the actions they take in an army.
Section 6 - Voting
A citizen can change the figurehead of the state by voting for 1 candidate to represent the entirety of a citizen's views on all matters. A vote is worth the same as any other citizen's vote. A citizen may become a candidate for statehood as long as they pay the right fees and know the right people. Voting rights can be revoked by a state if the citizen has broken a serious enough LAW.
Section 7 - Monopolies
If the state claims a monopoly on any service (healthcare, defense, roads, etc), the Citizen shall pay whatever TAX the state deems fair. Not using a service does not exclude the citizen from being TAXED to pay for it. The state may decide that the TAX required for a service is too high for the citizen to pay, in this case, the citizen's children will pay for it by taking out a loan and defering the full cost of a service to a future citizen. The citizen may not compete with a state monopoly, however they are free to compete with a STATE-SPONSORED MONOPOLY.
Section 8 - Children
The state shall have the same privileges granted by this contract over any citizen's children. These children are citizens, they inherit their parent's agreement to this contract.
Section 9 - Restitution
If the state decides that the citizen has offended it, by violating a LAW, the citizen must pay restitution to the state. The amount of restitution shall be determined by the state at the time of being offended. Disputes with the state shall be arbitrated by the state.
Section 10 - Services Rendered
The state may provide services at any quality it wants to the citizen. The citizen is free to choose whether or not to use the service. The citizen is not free to choose whether or not to pay for the service.
Section 11 - Relocation
A citizen may leave the geographical area the state claims as long as the following are satisfied: * The state has not yet become totalitarian. It reserves the right to do this at any time, even if the constitution says it won't. * The state allows the citizen to leave. * The citizen will pay all costs in full (departure, passports, moving costs, etc)
Section 12 - Reparations
There will be no reparations paid to the citizen if the state breaches any part of this contract.
Section 13 - Equality
The state shall do it's best to ensure that all citizens who sign this contract shall be ruled equally and fairly. There is no penalty for the state not adhering to this. The state determines the definition of "equality" and "fairness".
Section 14 - Tyranny
If the state becomes tyrannical, the onus is on the citizen to dismantle the state and rebuild the state so that it may grow to be tyrannical again. _________________ IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have duly executed this Agreement as of the day and year written above. | body | Awesome vid :) There people in poor countries use similar methods to fraternal societies today to get large sums of money- since credit is extremely important for getting out of poverty. In the documentary "Living on One Dollar" they go into more detail, but basically people who live on a dollar a day will pay ~30% of their income into a pot every month. After X months (where X is the number of people in the group- usually ~10), they get X times the amount they're putting in (so the same amount back as they donated in the first place). So if I was putting in $12/month, I'd get back ~120 after a year- enough to start a business, or buy a tiny plot of land to generate more wealth. |
