| body | The Incas were way more advanced than the Aztecs. First off, The Inca covered way more territory with a larger population than the aztecs. The Aztecs couldn’t even expand out of Mexico, while The Inca expanded across Peru and Western South America. The Inca developed rich metallurgy opposed to The Neolithic Stone Age civilization the Aztecs were. The Inca had a better military. They used Gold, Silver, and Bronze in their Axes, Spears, Maces, and Halberds. Also The Inca were more physically fit than the pathetic small empire the Aztecs built. The Inca knew how to adapt to harsh mountains, in fact, The Second longest/highest mountain range in the world. The Inca also ran across mountains, making them more physically fit. They adapted to the Mountains, Rainforest, Deserts, Chaparrals, and Snow Mountains. That shows The Inca adapted more. The Inca had more physically fit soldiers with way better armor and weaponry consisting of metals than the aztecs. The Inca using their Weapons on the Aztecs would annihilate the way smaller Stone Age Aztecs. The Aztecs use stone and wood in their weapons. Oh and also The Inca stuffed alpaca wool in their armor, with robes, capes, crowns, helmets, and shields with capes as protection. The Aztecs would be annihilated. The Inca were way more advanced. They adapted to biomes, had way better metallurgy, built wondrous cities that still hasn’t fallen, such as Machu Picchu and Cusco, while Tenochtitlán was destroyed. The Inca also used Terraces, adapted to Mountains with Terraces as agriculture, domesticated corn, potatoes, and such, built long roads comparable to Rome, had better metallurgy, had larger territory and population, built actual unique cities instead of building non unique pyramids, and so on. |

| body | Nowadays we don’t have much in common anymore. That’s because the Internet, which was supposed to unite the world, has become too adept at serving us personalized content. _**It is separating us away from uniting.**_ *Technology is slowly taking over our lives here are some stats that prove it:* 2. Apple launched its first iPhone 11 years ago. 2.3 billion people own an iPhone now. 3. 47% of jobs will disappear in the next 25 years as robots will replace 5 million workers by 2020. 4. Students are preparing for jobs that don’t exist using technologies that haven’t been invented. 5. The Digital Revolution is just starting. Our stories were inspired by the modern issues that come from technology and social media. Especially in today’s generation, technology use is getting out of hand and needs to be controlled. The episode of Nosedive from Black Mirror also inspired us because it introduced a new perspective on the problems that are caused from technology, as well as its' features such as social media, but that’s a whole different discussion. _Try to ask yourself these three questions_ 1. Is technology affecting me negatively? 2. Am I controlling technology the right way? 3. How can I use technology more productively? Use these questions to find out how technology is affecting you and realize how to make technology use more beneficial than harmful to yourself. _**Citation:**_ https://churchleaders.com/worship/worship-articles/291932-scary-statistics-digital-technology-use-david-murray.html |

| title | How Does Non-Violence Work? |
| body | Throughout history, there have been civilizations that have ruled with tyranny and inequality. A great number of people have tried to rebel and have not succeeded. Most of them did not succeed because they were rebelling with violence. As stated by Colman Mccarthy, “Wars aren’t stopped by fighting wars, any more than you can fight fire with fire. You fight fire with water. You fight violence with nonviolence.” Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr all used nonviolence as a way to stop the injustice of their government. First I’ll be talking about each person’s history, then about their similarities, and finally going over their methods of using nonviolence. India, South Africa, and the United States are three different nations that have faced violence and have used non-violence to stop it. The United States and South Africa were suffering from racial segregation, while India was suffering from colonialism. Gandhi grew up in a family where his parent taught him equality and justice. When he grew up, he went to UCL Faculty of Laws to study law which is located in London. In England, he thought that the country was fair and flawless. But he was proven wrong when he went to South Africa and kicked off a train for not being white. He fought back and was sent to jail. When he went back to India, he was recognized as a leader and created a kind of community where they would fight back. Speaking of South Africa, that’s where Nelson Mandela was born. Mandela’s dad a tribal chief and was dethroned when disrespecting an English judge. He attended and graduated a law school which was rare at that time. When he came back, he joined the African National Congress or ANC. He was later arrested by the government for being the ‘leader’ of the ANC and thrown to jail for life. He got out of jail twenty-six and a half years later and found new ways to fight the injustice without cruelty. Martin Luther King Junior’s dad was a preacher in church and when MLK grew up, he went to Boston University. He was sent to jail for going 5 mph over the speed limit. He joined SCLC later and starter doing peaceful protests. As proven in the last paragraph, Martin Luther King, Mohandas Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela all have things in common. They all had influential parents who taught them equality and justice for starters. They also went to law schools and colleges. Gandhi went to UCL Faculty of Laws, MLK went to Boston University, Nelson Mandela went to the University of London to study Law. Finally, these three enormous influential people in the history of protesting in rebelling all had to sacrifice something. MLK sacrificed his life just like Gandhi, and Mandela spent almost one-third of his life in prison. These characteristics and influences from the beginning of their lives had made them into natural born leaders. Now you might ask how their peaceful protests worked. Madela used a lot of known nonviolence protests. One of the known ones is the Birmingham Campaign, 1963. The Birmingham Campaign was made by MLK while he was in the SCLC. Most of the jobs only hired white people and he made peaceful protests by making the police arrest the protesters and jail cells where overfilled. All the people were freed after proven to have nothing to do with violence. Gandhi did the same things as Martin Luther King, peaceful march. One of his marches stretched over 200 miles to the sea that led to campaigns that had over 100,000 arrests. Nelson Mandela did the same thing as MLK and did peaceful marches but ended up getting thrown at the prison. In conclusion, these three men have changed the course of protesting, by being leaders, being patient in the face of nonviolence, and having the right cause to fight against the violence. As I said in the beginning, “Wars aren’t stopped by fighting wars, any more than you can fight fire with fire. You fight fire with water. You fight violence with nonviolence.” |

| title | Incas or Aztecs? Who Was More Powerful??? |
| body | Many people celebrate and appreciate the Western civilization and its achievements but don’t recognize the significance of the Aztecs and the Inca civilization which have ruled the Central Americas from the 1200s -1500s. But with this comes the great question, were the Aztecs or the Inca more advanced and powerful? Based on my research, I came to the conclusion that the Aztec Empire is more advanced than the Inca Empire because of their religion, maintenance in power and military. One of the reasons the Aztecs were more advanced and more powerful than the Incas is because of their religion. The Aztecs believed that everyone had to do their own duty to “maintain order in the universe” (Aztec Empire) and a simple mistake could lead to disasters. The Aztecs were highly devoted to religion and believed that the Gods sacrificed themselves many times to create the Earth and the People. So to pay back the Aztec Gods, they created many “rituals and ceremonies, some featuring human sacrifice.” (Aztec Empire: The Importance of Religion) Because of religion, Aztecs created one of the worlds most known structure that is stable to this day and it shows their knowledge of architecture. They called the temples Teocalli, meaning house of God, and used it the “temples to worship and pray, and make offerings to the gods to keep them strong and in balance.” (Aztec Temples). The religion gave balance to the people and stabilized the Empire. The Incas, on the other hand, believed that the world was created in Lake Titicaca and their religion really had no influence in their day to day lived other than their ceremonies. Another reason the Aztecs were more powerful and advanced than the Incas was because of their maintenance in power. The Aztecs were in existence from 1345 to 1521 while the Inca civilization was shortly lived between 1438 to 1532. The way the Aztecs rules empires was simple. Tenochtitlan had the military power and when they conquered new territories, they let the local government stay in place, but would be forced to pay tribute to the Triple Alliance. Ruling through a local government made sure that the people were happy and that “there would be stability and continuity.” (The Aztec Empire). The Aztecs conquered cities and because of that, they had “power in pockets over an area.” The Incas did not “collect any tribute from their conquered subjects in the form of money (there wasn’t any in Andean society) or in kind” and instead, they demanded labor from them, through the mit’a system. (Inca Civilization). First off, the Aztecs rule the empire a lot more than the Incas ruled their empire. When Aztecs conquer neighboring tribes, they don’t touch the local government for the happiness of the people. When the people are happy, it creates fewer uprisings against the government thus making it last longer and more successful. When the Incas conquered other tribes, they demanded labor in their own cities. When the conquered are doing labor for the city, the uprisings are a lot easier and creates a weak and unstable government. Finally, the Aztecs were more advanced and powerful than the Incas because of their military power. Military power is the heart of a strong Empire/Civilization. The Aztecs had a better military than the Incas. “The Aztecs engaged in warfare (yaoyotl) to acquire territories, resources, quash rebellions, and to collect sacrificial victims to honor their gods.” (Aztec Warfare) All males were expected to participate and fight in battles. The Aztecs often conquered other cities as well which proves that they had a great military. The “military commander-in-chief was the king himself” The Warriors were trained from the young age in special military compounds where they learned tactics and weapon usage. The Incas had a different military. They most often had hand-to-hand combats which were bloody and less tactical than the Aztecs. Their weapons were “throwers, arrows, javelins, slings, the bolas, clubs, and maces with star-shaped heads made of copper or bronze.”(Inca Warfare) In Conclusion, the Aztec Empire is more advanced than the Inca Empire because of their religion, maintenance in power and military. The Aztecs were more religious and were more devoted to their religion than the Incas were. The Aztecs also maintained power better and more than the Aztecs through the tactical way of treating conquered territories. Finally, the Aztecs had a better military than the Incas through dedication to the military. |

| body | Hello Steemians, I wrote a short story about how quick people are to judge others. We should be cautious about what we say around others and not conclude people based on how they look or act. You never know what the person is going through. It was a glistering day at my day off from work. A great opportunity to go for a jog at Mellow Park a block away from my second-floor apartment. I saw this lovely girl with a milk-white dress and ocean-blue eyes sitting on a bench by herself and I certainly had to sit next to her. I placed my backpack containing water next to her and stretched out my tight muscles before jogging my first lap at the park. I noticed that she was drawing an angel holding a golden scale. I was about to ask her but didn't want to interrupt her and started jogging. On my way back from the first lap, I couldn't keep my eyes off of her and chose to take a break and sit next to her. I thought about ways to start a conversation with her for two ghost-quiet minutes. I drank the water out of nervousness and felt the icy-cold water gliding down my throat. Not being able to hold myself I said, "That's a nice drawing you have there." She didn't respond and it seemed as if she was ignoring me. A deadly silence had passed and I couldn't accept the fact that she ignored me, hence I assumed that perhaps she didn't hear me. I took a sip of water again and cleared my throat. I repeated myself to her and said, "That's a nice drawing you have there." Again, I didn't receive a response. The uncomfortable silence was exterminating me from the inside. "Hey listen, I was just complimenting your drawing. I'm not a creep that's trying to get at you or anything." She still hadn't looked my way. Shaking my head disappointingly and preparing for my second and last lap around the park, I said, "Girls these days! You assume every guy is after you. Y'all have so much attitude...it's ridiculous" The Girl lastly turned towards my angry self and looked confused. I didn't want to see any of it and just started running. Completing my last lap, I returned to the bench to pick up my backpack. I realized how hollow the bench looked without the girl in the white dress. Under my backpack, I saw her angelic drawing with a note that said, "I'm sorry if I offended you, I'm deaf." |

| title | How did governments use religion and philosophy to rule their people? |
| body | Ideas have been used by humankind to make sense of the world and to explain the actions of nature and individuals. To this end, certain individuals who have ascended to leadership positions around the globe have relied upon religion and philosophy to justify their position of power and their rule. The United States is a nation that has purposely avoided connecting a particular religion with its laws and the governing of its people. This is evident in Article 11 of America’s Treaty of Tripoli, which was a trade deal with present day Libya written in 1797, that states, "The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…." This would have been important to the governments of north Africa because they are predominantly Muslim and would not trade favorably with an openly Christian Nation (Is America a Christian Nation?). While the United States has not linked religion and philosophy with its governing doctrines, many advanced civilizations have, such as medieval European kingdoms and the Islamic world. Medieval kingdoms in Europe were tightly connected to the Christian church. As said in the article “The Power of the Church”, “...the shared beliefs in the teachings of the Church bonded people together. The church was a stable force during an era of constant warfare and political turmoil.” When Rome fell in C.E 476, everything was a chaos, people fought for food, power and most of the population moved to the countryside. The church provided a sense of security and a “belonging to a religious community.” The Church leaders used their power to create church law, which is both religious and political. Some of the punishments of the church law was excommunication and interdict. To show power over the kings, the Popes excommunicated the disobedient king’s. This meant that you were no longer part of the church and would no longer be going to heaven. If the excommunicated king kept on being disobedient, then the popes would interdict the king and his land. This meant that whoever was living on the land of the king, they wouldn’t be allowed to worship or pray. The majority believed that if they did not pray, then they would be in hell after they died, so the kings would not risk being disobedient to the Pope. |

| title | Hobbit Character Analasys |
| body | Throughout the fantastical story The Hobbit, the main character (Bilbo Baggins) has had many very different changes to his life. Bilbo is independant, simple, and respectful at the beginning of the story. But that doesn't stay the same for long. At first, Bilbo Baggins was an ordinary Hobbit living in his ordinary hobbit-hole. Before his amazing adventure, he was very simple. He had almost no interaction with others, Reads everyday, and doesn't get stressed in life. Bilbo lives an easy simple life. Other than being simple he was also independent. He is independent because he lives all alone. No wife. No kids. No friends. He lost his respect for the neighbors and no one really liked him that much.So he is what you call some a “loner” Even though Bilbo had lost his respect. He is still a very respectful character. He has great manners. Every Time he meets someone, he greets them with a “good morning” When he saw Gandalf one day he greeted him with “good morning”. He uses that phrase for a lot of things. So far you can see Bilbo Baggins as a very ordinary hobbit that lives a normal life. In the middle of the story, Bilbo goes new places and meets new people. And with people, events are caused. So when Bilbo is on his great adventure he is getting to know more about the great wizard Gandalf. What he doesn't know is that Gandalf is changing his entire life. Gandalf changes Bilbo’s life because he takes him on an adventure with 12 dwarves. On the adventure, Gandalf leaves Bilbo and the dwarves on their own most of the time. He does this because he wants to make Bilbo stronger. Gandalf is a wizard. He could of did some magic trick and took all of them to the top of the mountain. But he leaves them alone so they can understand and learn more about their lives and what they could do. Gandalf enjoyed Bilbo. “You are a fine person, Mr.Baggins, and i am very fond of you; but you are only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all!” says Gandalf to Bilbo. That shows Gandalf really likes Bilbo and believes he can do a lot in his life. Going on to events. An event bilbo faces that changes him throughout the story is when he finds the ring. Bilbo is one night lost from the dwarves and Gandalf in a cave, and is crawling around and finds a ring. A magic ring. Bilbo actually doesn't know it is magic until later on. This ring made his whole adventure a lot easier. It helps him later that night escape gollum and then escape the spiders. The ring changed Bilbo because it made him feel like a hero. Not only to himself, but also to the dwarves. By the end of this novel, Bilbo has had most of his final changes. He has became very wise. All throughout the story, making decisions is probably the hardest thing for Bilbo to do. Not only decide them, but they had to be decided wisely. For example, a time Bilbo has had to make a wise decision is when to use the ring or not. Bilbo can't just use the ring every time he is in trouble. The ring helps him only to escape. He had to think about the dwarves too. This shows that Bilbo is protective of the dwarves. Speaking of protective, that is one of the changes that has happened to Bilbo. Bilbo has been through so much in this adventure. Those things made him feel like he is the caretaker of everyone. After so much keeping the dwarves safe, he feels he is the caretaker of them. It made him feel in charge for once in his life. So Bilbo has became somewhat of a so called “Bossypants” The last change that probably explains Bilbo completely at the end of the story is heroic. Bilbo is heroic because he did what no other Hobbit has done before. He has fought monsters, escaped them, and also conquered them. He not only kept himself alive but also kept most of the dwarves alive. He did fail on keeping Fili and Kili alive, but he saved at least half of them. But even after all that he still wanted to quit early. “I wish i was in my nice hole next to the fire, with the kettle just beginning to sting.” said Bilbo So Bilbo Baggins, the former ordinary Hobbit who became a hero, has changed so much throughout the story. Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds, cannot change anything. ~George Bernard Shaw. This quote describes what Bilbo is facing in the adventure. Change happens to Bilbo as a good thing in this story. It unlocked secrets to Bilbo’s life that he would never have had found out if he had never took this adventure. |

| title | Costs and Benefits of the Great Wall of China... |
| body | There are many dead bodies that lie beneath the The Great Wall of China. This wall changed the way China lived for a long time. It is 5,488 miles long and took an outstanding 2,000 years to build. The wall was used as a burial ground for workers of the wall and a source of protection from invaders. Regarding those benefits, there are more costs; The Great Wall of China took extremely long to build, people died working on it, and at some point in history, it separated families. To start off, the wall took extremely long to build. In the first page of the DBQ, its states, “It was built over a 2,000-year period, and GPS satellites have measured its various sections to be 5,488 long.” This is proof that The Wall took a very long time to finish building. 2,000 years is an extremely long time to create a monument. This wall was built by many different dynasties, considering the fact that many dynasties such as the Qin and Han reached their peaks before the wall was finished being built. Next off, The Great Wall caused many people to die to working on it. In document E it says, “According to poetry and legends, tens of thousands of soldiers died from hunger, sickness, and extreme hot or cold.” This shows that building the wall was so intense, people even died building it. Building a wall across a whole country is pretty hard, but this wall was crazy enough to kill many people working on it. The soldiers passed away working on the wall were buried inside of the wall. Lastly, another way The Great Wall of China overweight with costs is because at some points it separated families and soldiers. The soldiers left their families to go work on the wall. Some never returned. In document E it states, “Soldiers forced to leave families and villages for several years.” The government of China forced soldiers to move away from their families to build The Great Wall. This could of really impacted families back when the wall was being built. To summarize, the costs of The Great Wall of China overweigh the benefits. The wall was a very time consuming thing to work on, considering what it actually did for a while before it was upgraded, it killed many workers and soldiers during the building process, and it separated many soldiers from their beloved family to go work on a wall. Compared to today, The Great Wall China doesn’t have a huge affect on China. Today, there are no invaders that try to invade China, so there is no point of having the wall except for honor of those who worked on it, but it is still a tomb for soldiers. |
