C'est une question très hypothétique, car la conjoncture politique et les rapports entre les citoyens et le pouvoir ont beaucoup changé en un siècle!\n\nJe posais davantage ces deux questions pour faire réaliser le monde de différence entre Wilfrid Laurier et Justin Trudeau. Autant le premier avait un ascendant réel sur les Québécois et les Canadiens français et restait fidèle aux intérêts du groupe linguistique qui lui faisait confiance, au risque de lui valoir l'opposition, voire la colère de la majorité anglophone, autant le second a délibérément choisi de renier ses racines, par pur électoralisme, pour perpétuer la vision de son père d'un Canada qui garantissait son élection.\n\nAutant Laurier a préféré risquer de braver l'opinion de la majorité pour rester fidèle à ses convictions et les concitoyens qui lui ont fait confiance, autant Trudeau a choisi de s'associer aux forces cherchant à éradiquer le nationalisme qui a pourtant protégé son groupe linguistique de l'assimilation.\n\nLe courage du premier de se tenir debout pour défendre la minorité contre la majorité face à la lâcheté du second d'asseoir la domination de la majorité sur la minorité.",

      "body": "![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdySim9QCLTZ7JMHGWhKDUVGR2PuMpFE3gfjomGHWXK31/image.png)\n\nL'élection fédérale du 17 décembre 1917 a été historique à plus d'un titre.\n\nD'abord, elle a suivi un long intervalle de 6 ans depuis l'élection précédente (1911), car la Grande Guerre de 1914-1918 était déjà engagée, au moment où le gouvernement conservateur de Robert Laird Borden aurait dû en tenir une en 1916, mais Borden préférait attendre, avant de la déclencher, pour tenter de former un gouvernement de coalition en faveur de la conscription, comme en Grande-Bretagne.\n\nEnsuite, cette élection, qualifiée \"d'élection la plus amère de l'histoire du Canada\" par l'historien Michael Bliss, a consacré la plus grande fracture entre les anglophones et les francophones, les conservateurs, avec une faction libérale anglophone en faveur de la conscription, dissolvant la chambre pour se présenter sous l'étiquette d'Unionistes, isolant Wilfrid Laurier et les libéraux, majoritaires au Québec.\n\nPour s'assurer de la victoire, Borden a fait adopter deux lois, avant la dissolution de la Chambre des communes: la Loi des élections en temps de guerre, qui privait du droit de vote les objecteurs de conscience et les Canadiens nés dans des pays ennemis naturalisés après 1902 et accordait, pour la première fois, le droit de vote aux épouses des militaires, et la Loi des électeurs militaires, qui permettait aux soldats en mission à l'étranger de choisir la circonscription où ils voulaient que leur vote soit comptabilisé.\n\nLes Québécois voteront à 73,4% pour le Parti libéral du Canada, qui fera élire 62 de ses 82 députés au Québec, les autres provenant de régions comptant un nombre important de francophones (Nouveau-Brunswick, Manitoba, Ontario).\n\nLes autres provinces accorderont une majorité jamais vue, pour un gouvernement comptant un seul parti, de 56,93% et 153 des 235 sièges de la Chambre des communes.\n\nLes 3 sièges unioniste du Québec étaient tous de circonscriptions majoritairement anglophones.\n\nLa question qui tue: qu'aurait fait notre \"Junior\" national s'il avait été à la place de Wilfrid Laurier? C'est peut-être une des raisons qui expliquent que l'anglais se soit imposé et continue à s'imposer, partout, comme la langue la plus universelle, car elle regorge d'idiomes, des verbes d'action composés de verbes communs qui, avec l'ajout de prépositions de direction (up, down, over, in, out, back, forward, etc.), peuvent traduire ou remplacer des verbes plus complexes. Je ne me souviens plus de comment ces genres de verbe étaient appelés, mais ils sont davantage entendus aux États-Unis qu'en Angleterre. C'est d'ailleurs pour éviter d'avoir à mémoriser des longs verbes, souvent des traductions d'autres langues, que les anglophones préfèrent les idiomes dans la conversation courante.\n\nMais c'est la richesse du vocabulaire et l'existence de nombreux synonymes pour un même mot qui fait la beauté et la précision de la langue française.",
