      "body": "So many things done, so many things to talk about again in this blog article for DTube...\n\nFirst, I haven't blogged about it but a lot of people noticed that the @dtube account now has 1M SP delegated from @ned. This is helping us tremendously to gather funds for the project development and infrastructure. As collateral damage, our uploads have more than quadrupled in the last month since 0.5, we are nearing 1 video per minute.\n\nA lot of people keep messaging me asking me why @dtube upvotes or not, if it is a bot or not. It is not a bot, we actually try to watch as many videos as possible, and if we like it we upvote! It is very possible that some good videos get missed, it is getting difficult to look at everything right now.\n\n\nMore encoding power\nI said in the previous article that I was expecting the uploading server to be enough power not to have any queues. Well I was wrong, it seems we have been hitting our maximum encoding capacity at peak times of the day. Why? Because our uploads grew from 200ish videos a day to 1000 videos a day during patch 0.5! I therefore invested some of our STEEM into renting 2 more servers for the encoding, which should triple up our power and hold for a while, maybe.\n\nNew Logo\nApparently a lot of people were unable to see the D in the previous DTube logo. A lot of people also started using user made logos. This was going nowhere good :) Here is the new iteration of our logo:\n\n\nMedia Kit\nWe now provide a media kit for anyone who wants to include a DTube logo in his work. This has been requested so many times on our discord server. If you want to make your own DTube tshirts, mugs, or whatever, you can find PNG and SVG version of our new logo.\n\nWe also updated about.d.tube to match our definitive colors and current logo.\n\nPlayer\nThe player is where a big part of the magic happens. We decided to patch it early (few days ago), so this part is not really new for active DTube users but I'll still put the changes in here.\n\nLoading Logic\nIn version 0.2 I changed the loading logic of the videos from using a random gateway, to using a canonical gateway for each file. While this worked really well to reduce the load on all gateways and avoid file being transfered for no reason, it also made a large portion of our videos stop loading when a single ipfs gateway had issues. In this version, the player will now make a HEAD request to every gateway, and find out on which gateway the file is the most available, to you. If a single gateway already has a file available, it will answer faster than others. If multiple gateways already have a file available, most probably the closest geographical one will be the fastest one to answer.\n\nFull custom design\nWe were using some open source design for our player before, which was actually very close to the official player that the BBC used for a while. @hightouch managed to redesign the whole player into something that fits what we need, with a proper settings menu. At the moment we still only have the playback speed option, but more is coming.\n\nHotkeys\nYou should now be able to control the video player more efficiently if you are a keyboard warrior. Space to pause, left and right to go backward / forward, numbers to go to a certain part of a video.\n\nAlso mouse users will be happy to know they can now adjust the volume by scrolling the mouse wheel when the player is focused.\n\nVideo preview on mouse hover\n\nThis wasn't patched earlier because it was too good to reveal ;) and we already had it tested. You can now preview what a video looks like at a certain time without even downloading the video. Wow. Just hover your mouse on the time bar of the video, and the preview will automatically display. This should work for every video uploaded after we released 0.5 so about a month ago.\n\nOptimizing Pictures\nDTube's snaps were uploaded straight to IPFS before this patch, and some people were submitting some absurdly high resolution images, considering the fact that these pictures would never get seen at more than 210x118 pixels on DTube. We would also load an insane amount of pictures on some pages like the homepage (12 per line - 60 total for logged in users). We therefore went through with two simple enough changes to drastically improve bandwidth without impacting the on-screen quality.\n\nLazy Loading Images\nWhat is lazy loading? It's the fact that an element will only load when needed, instead of stupidly on page load. We applied lazy loading to most pictures on DTube. Pictures that are lazy loaded will load with a short fade-in animation.\n\n\nManipulating your snaps\nOn top of that, we will also now resize every uploaded snap through our server to 210x118 pixels resolution (the resolution we use on DTube), minimizing file size. This should also fix snap upload issues.\n\nContent Discovery\nA big problem of DTube was how it was pretty hard to find more than the really popular content creators like @exyle, @dollarvigilante, @acidyo or @davidpakman to name a few. Those are lucky to be displayed on the homepage regularly, but it's not the case of the 'lower' 99% of our users. So here are a few things that should help our newer, motivated users to get detected by dolphins/whales.\n\nCuriosity is a very human thing, and if DTube increases the ways in which users can discover content they like, they will naturally spend more time browsing DTube. According to similarweb.com, DTube's users stay for 5 minutes on average, against close to 20 minutes for YouTube. I predict that these changes will increase the time spent on DTube by users a lot.\n\nDedicated trending / hot / new pages with infinite scrolling\nRemember the old trending page we had, which displayed up to 25 videos maximum and was basically useless? We enhanced it to make it load infinitely as many content as you want, by simply scrolling down like on steemit. Then we did the same for the hot and the new videos. This enables you to discover as many content as you want.\n\n\nTags browsing\nAh finally! I've been requesting users to enter tags during the upload since 0.1 but it's never been displayed anywhere until today (so for a total of five months).\n\nAt least the tag feature is coming in a full pack. Firstly, a short list of the top tags on dtube are now shown at the bottom of the sidebar. Tags are also now displayed under the title of your videos.\n\n\nLastly, clicking on these tags will now take you to the tag page where you can discover content from the same tag. On the tag page, you can also filter by upload date and video duration, and sort videos by payout, votes, or upload date.\n\n\nThis will help you easily discover other DTubers matching your interests and start networking with them by giving them votes and comments.\n\nImproved related videos\nOf course the related videos should be the main place where content discovery is made. It's the most natural way. We are now using the related feature of the AskSteem API to fetch related videos to the currently viewed one. It's certainly not as good as YouTube's algorithm but it should be a good start. As we get more videos day after day, I'm sure the quality of the related videos will improve by itself.\n\nThis should allow you to watch infinitely many videos by simply staying on the video page and watching video after video, instead of being forced of watching always the same content creator like before.\n\nWatch Later\nNew feature! Ever received a link from someone for a long video but didn't have time to watch it? You can now use the 'Watch Later' option, accessible either through the top-right angle of the snap, or in the little (...) menu under the video.\n\nYou can then access these videos at anytime from the sidebar->watch later link. Be careful though if you change device, it won't see the video you added to the watch later on your other device. The data is inside your device, not your account.\n\nDesign Changes\nChannel Page improved again\nWe added a default cover image so that it doesn't look ugly. Also added some numbers showing the estimated value of the account (with more detail on mouse hovering), voting power and reputation.\n\nThe loading still sucks, and won't show more than your last 100 STEEM contents, so this page still requires some work from us.\n\nSlick Carousel to Owl Carousel\nThe carousel is the thing that that 'rotates' videos of each category in the homepage. We've been using a pretty slow module and replaced it with a lighter and faster one. Consequently the homepage will load a bit faster. It's still not fast enough by my taste so we might need to have our own carousel to get the homepage rendering faster.\n\nNight Mode\n\nSteemIt did it so why not DTube? Feel free to try out the dark version of DTube by going into the settings and enabling 'Night Mode'.\n\nYou can now Login using SteemConnect\nA much requested feature! While I personally believe that using the posting key will always be safer, a lot of users are complaning that they cannot login (despite explaining how to retrieve a login key in the #1 question our help page).\n\n\nSteemConnect is a nice alternative for logging in that is easy and secure. If you try to login on DTube now, there should be a blue SteemConnect button. For your first login on DTube, it will ask for your active key, in order to delegate the posting authority to SteemConnect.\n\nAfter that, if logged in on SteemConnect, it will log you in automatically by only pressing one button. Your SteemConnect sessions can only stay for up to 7 days, after that you will need to login again.\n\nPartnered with Discord: discord.gg/dtube\nGetting messages from multiple sources of information doesn't help my daily tasks. I want the Discord server to become the main chat for the DTube community, I believe it works well and has a lot of advanced features that we require. The dtube SteemIt.chat channel will still exist, but we will not be checking it very often, so it is much better to join our discord if you need help or just want to start networking with other DTubers.\n\nLast words\nAs you can see, we added a lot of pages and features in this version that should make DTube feel much more complete. A lot of promised features have now been delivered, and only a few are left from my original todo list. What's left in it? Basically notifications, subtitles, mobile apps and enabling search-engine crawling, so that google can finally see DTube's content. The search would need some improvement as well.\n\nDTube has grown faster over the last month than it ever did, and seems to be entering snowball mode. More and more people are converting. Every new level of traffic we reach, creates new issues and challenges for our team. I don't know how long we can keep growing at this pace, but within the next month, we will probably start using GPUs (with the NVENC library) to encode videos. This should increase our efficiency a lot and help us scale into hundreds of thousands of videos per day if we ever reach that point.\n\nWith the recent rise of the price of STEEM, we should be making enough money from curation and beneficiary rewards to keep growing until we reach a technical limit or a popularity limit. Geological formations resulting from thousands of years of attrition and erosion have gifted us with an unworldly composition of rocks. Perhaps the most iconic of these is the Queens Head, but aside from that one, there are also many other rocks in all sorts of shapes and sizes - many with their own nick names, describing their uncanny resemblances to worldly objects in the backdrop of alien landscapes. Therefore, a trip to Yehliu Geopark is like visiting another world, one with very appealing and unique geography.\n\nThe Queens Head is so iconic that it is often used as the unofficial emblem of the local town of Wanli. It, amongst other rock formations have stood against the geological forces overtime, contributing to their appearance today. It is however, a matter of time before these rocks lose their shapes forever as continuous natural geological forces erode them away.\n\nEven though nature has it's way of going full circle, if you wish to see these natural rock formations in their mystical forms, it's definitely a good idea to visit sooner rather than later. I once visited the Azure Window in Malta, only to hear it had collapsed a year later. Nature works in mysterious ways, the beauty before us can come and then go, just like the tides from whence they were born.\n\nhttps://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmRbyQ8zW2xSk75MVNKnSQZMLiie7BMXH767xdPbNa7Z5c/DSC02529.JPG\n\nYehliu Geopark is part of the Wanli town and district, North East of Taipei along the coast. It is about 90 minutes via coach from Taipei Main Station, or about 1 hour via shuttle bus. My personal recommendation is to book a shuttle bus as they will come pick you up from your residence and drop you back as well. A common route is to pass by Keelung City on the way back. The vibrant bustling night markets there are a delight and draw visitors from all around.\nhttps://steemitimages.com/DQmQE2fsjsB3rBQ9mya3KnNUhVg7hJxQBB3VtwVPK8Ci2GQ/DSC02524.JPG\nFrom this aerial photo, you can see the 1,700 meters long cape of Yehliu Geopark, protruding out into the sea. This macro geological movement as a result of the Datun Mountains being forced out into the ocean as tectonic plates shifted.\nhttps://steemitimages.com/0x0/http://image.ibb.co/h8sNgR/IMG_7303.jpg\nThe soft rocks here form a honeycomb like window lattice. Because of the monsoon season, the rocks are subjected to many months of hard battering under humid conditions. Uneven erosion under these severe weather conditions lead to the many holes. It's really as if the holes were created by creatures who live inside. (thankfully not!)\nThere is pretty much just one path that leads you all the way from the entrance of the park, right to the end of the cape, where you will climb several hundred meters up a fairly steep hill. At the top, there is a lighthouse.\n\nEven though there are beautiful rocks everywhere you look, the attention is focused squarely on the Queens Head, the most recognisable and iconic rock formation of the park.\n\n\n\nIn the distance, you can see a little path with more people standing further away in the background. That is where the Queen's head is, as well as all the other Mushroom rocks.\n\nIn fact, all of the rocks were once spherical in shape. The thin pillars that we can now see supporting them are the result of faster erosion. This is due to more contact with seawater, and also because of the type of rock being more susceptible to erosion being the lower layer.\n\n\n\nThe result of this differential erosion is that we are left with the top rock layer containing more calcium, eroding slower than the lower rock layer.\n\nThere are three main types of these mushroom rocks. And they are all defined by the thickness of their 'necks' : Thin, thick, and neckless.\n\nAs time goes by, we will see the rocks cycle through neckless, thick and then thin necks as they continuously erode.\n\nLets take a look at some more of these amazing rocks below. Time to use your imagination and see if you can identify any of them!\nhttps://steemitimages.com/0x0/http://image.ibb.co/hPSmam/DSC02560.jpg\nA collapsed arch, a mini version of the azure window.\n\n\n\nIn the distance, you can see the cape of Yehliu, the lighthouse, and just below it, the 24 filial piety hill.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis rock has been given it's own name. You might have guessed that it is the Queens Head, but looking closely, you can see the shape is softer on the edges, almost resembling a little girl. Indeed, this mushroom rock is known as Cute Princess.\n\n\n\nNature's way of acknowledging the beauty of human form perhaps?\n\nAs you can see, this particular rock has a some what thin neckline. Yet, as you will see later, the Queens Head has an even thinner neckline. This means that the rock has been undergoing erosion for a very long time and that the weight of the head will soon overwhelming the neck supporting it, resulting in the head collapsing.\n\nThis is the reason that you will find sign posts for the Queen Head II and Cute Princess II near the entrance. They are replica's made from fibre-reinforced plastic, made in perfect 1 to 1 size and shape through computer modelling. In the event that the originals no longer stand, there are at least the replica's remaining.\n\n\n\nA few foot bridges lead us to the main mushroom rock section.\n\n\n\nThick-neck mushroom rocks look very sturdy, and you'll notice that the honeycomb structures on top are a different kind of rock to the neck.\n\n\n\nI believe this is supposed to be the Japanese Geisha rock. I'm not quite sure I see it, but it's certainly quite elegant and beautiful looking.\n\nU5drPwtRvJTJdNbpDS8vZSpxboKXiep_1680x8400.jpg\n\nJust to the bottom right where this picture was taken, is the Mazu cave. Mazu is the Chinese goddess of the sea, and the cave is named after her because of the statue that was previously placed inside the cave. Because of the frequent inclement weather conditions, the statue was moved away. Legend has it that Mazu made a presence before a fisherman demanding to be moved to Jinshang. This is where the Ci Hu Temple was then erected to consecrate the Sea Goddess.\n\n\n\nThis is the statue of Lin Tian Zhen. Most statues are erected as a sign of respect for high ranking person(s), or persons of notable importance. Lin Tian Zhen was an ordinary fisherman but with a heroic heart. On March the 18th, 1964, a group of students visited the area and one of them fell into the sea. This was before any security barriers were put up, nor was there any official scenic area for visitors. A local fisherman saw the student in the sea, and dived in to rescue him. Sadly, both ended up drowning and upon hearing this story, the President Chiang Kai-Shek ordered a statue to be built of Lin Tian Zhen in honour of his bravery.\n\n\n\nDSC02558.JPG\n\n\n\nI thought this shot was quite funny, look at all those umbrellas! (They're used to shade from the sun)\n\nDSC02533.JPG\n\nThis is one of the 'Pineapple Bun' rocks sitting in a little notch on top of the larger bean curd like rocks. Who knew there can be food like rocks too!?\n\nDSC02532.JPG\n\nAnd finally, the star of the show! The Queen Head mushroom rock！As you can see, it's such an important and iconic rock that they have surrounded it with a perimeter of smaller rocks to stop people from touching it.\n\nThe man in the picture is standing on the walkway where people queue to take pictures.\n\n\n\nAccording to geologists, the rock forming the Queens Head is around 4000 years old. It wasn't until around 1962 that the top part of the rock fractured and then broke off leaving the side of the head looking like side profile of Queen Elizabeth.\n\nThe neck of the Queens Head has suffered aggressive erosion over the years as well as perturbation from mankind. Though some measures have been put in place to try prolong the life of the Queens Head, it's collapse is an inevitability.\n\nI'm very lucky to have a picture with the Queen Head whilst it's still standing. One of the reasons Yehliu Geopark is so popular is because of this landmark. Who knows what will happen when the Queens Head falls one day?",

It is however, a matter of time before these rocks lose their shapes forever as continuous natural geological forces erode them away.\n\nEven though nature has it's way of going full circle, if you wish to see these natural rock formations in their mystical forms, it's definitely a good idea to visit sooner rather than later. I once visited the Azure Window in Malta, only to hear it had collapsed a year later. It is about 90 minutes via coach from Taipei Main Station, or about 1 hour via shuttle bus. My personal recommendation is to book a shuttle bus as they will come pick you up from your residence and drop you back as well. A common route is to pass by Keelung City on the way back. This macro geological movement as a result of the Datun Mountains being forced out into the ocean as tectonic plates shifted.\nhttps://steemitimages.com/0x0/http://image.ibb.co/h8sNgR/IMG_7303.jpg\nThe soft rocks here form a honeycomb like window lattice. Because of the monsoon season, the rocks are subjected to many months of hard battering under humid conditions. Uneven erosion under these severe weather conditions lead to the many holes. It's really as if the holes were created by creatures who live inside. (thankfully not!)\nThere is pretty much just one path that leads you all the way from the entrance of the park, right to the end of the cape, where you will climb several hundred meters up a fairly steep hill. At the top, there is a lighthouse.\n\nEven though there are beautiful rocks everywhere you look, the attention is focused squarely on the Queens Head, the most recognisable and iconic rock formation of the park.\n\n\n\nIn the distance, you can see a little path with more people standing further away in the background. That is where the Queen's head is, as well as all the other Mushroom rocks.\n\nIn fact, all of the rocks were once spherical in shape. The thin pillars that we can now see supporting them are the result of faster erosion. This is due to more contact with seawater, and also because of the type of rock being more susceptible to erosion being the lower layer.\n\n\n\nThe result of this differential erosion is that we are left with the top rock layer containing more calcium, eroding slower than the lower rock layer.\n\nThere are three main types of these mushroom rocks. And they are all defined by the thickness of their 'necks' : Thin, thick, and neckless.\n\nAs time goes by, we will see the rocks cycle through neckless, thick and then thin necks as they continuously erode.\n\nLets take a look at some more of these amazing rocks below. You might have guessed that it is the Queens Head, but looking closely, you can see the shape is softer on the edges, almost resembling a little girl. Indeed, this mushroom rock is known as Cute Princess.\n\n\n\nNature's way of acknowledging the beauty of human form perhaps?\n\nAs you can see, this particular rock has a some what thin neckline. Yet, as you will see later, the Queens Head has an even thinner neckline. This means that the rock has been undergoing erosion for a very long time and that the weight of the head will soon overwhelming the neck supporting it, resulting in the head collapsing.\n\nThis is the reason that you will find sign posts for the Queen Head II and Cute Princess II near the entrance. They are replica's made from fibre-reinforced plastic, made in perfect 1 to 1 size and shape through computer modelling. In the event that the originals no longer stand, there are at least the replica's remaining.\n\n\n\nA few foot bridges lead us to the main mushroom rock section.\n\n\n\nThick-neck mushroom rocks look very sturdy, and you'll notice that the honeycomb structures on top are a different kind of rock to the neck.\n\n\n\nI believe this is supposed to be the Japanese Geisha rock. I'm not quite sure I see it, but it's certainly quite elegant and beautiful looking.\n\nU5drPwtRvJTJdNbpDS8vZSpxboKXiep_1680x8400.jpg\n\nJust to the bottom right where this picture was taken, is the Mazu cave. Mazu is the Chinese goddess of the sea, and the cave is named after her because of the statue that was previously placed inside the cave. Because of the frequent inclement weather conditions, the statue was moved away. Legend has it that Mazu made a presence before a fisherman demanding to be moved to Jinshang. This is where the Ci Hu Temple was then erected to consecrate the Sea Goddess.\n\n\n\nThis is the statue of Lin Tian Zhen. Most statues are erected as a sign of respect for high ranking person(s), or persons of notable importance. Lin Tian Zhen was an ordinary fisherman but with a heroic heart. On March the 18th, 1964, a group of students visited the area and one of them fell into the sea. This was before any security barriers were put up, nor was there any official scenic area for visitors. A local fisherman saw the student in the sea, and dived in to rescue him. Sadly, both ended up drowning and upon hearing this story, the President Chiang Kai-Shek ordered a statue to be built of Lin Tian Zhen in honour of his bravery.\n\n\n\nDSC02558.JPG\n\n\n\nI thought this shot was quite funny, look at all those umbrellas! (They're used to shade from the sun)\n\nDSC02533.JPG\n\nThis is one of the 'Pineapple Bun' rocks sitting in a little notch on top of the larger bean curd like rocks. Who knew there can be food like rocks too!?\n\nDSC02532.JPG\n\nAnd finally, the star of the show! The Queen Head mushroom rock！As you can see, it's such an important and iconic rock that they have surrounded it with a perimeter of smaller rocks to stop people from touching it.\n\nThe man in the picture is standing on the walkway where people queue to take pictures.\n\n\n\nAccording to geologists, the rock forming the Queens Head is around 4000 years old. It wasn't until around 1962 that the top part of the rock fractured and then broke off leaving the side of the head looking like side profile of Queen Elizabeth.\n\nThe neck of the Queens Head has suffered aggressive erosion over the years as well as perturbation from mankind. Though some measures have been put in place to try prolong the life of the Queens Head, it's collapse is an inevitability.\n\nI'm very lucky to have a picture with the Queen Head whilst it's still standing. One of the reasons Yehliu Geopark is so popular is because of this landmark. Who knows what will happen when the Queens Head falls one day?",
