      "body": "# Exscudo\n**Exscudo** are setting themselves up to be the gateway between the traditional economy and the cryptocurrency market. They are striving to create a blockchain platform which unites the world of traditional finance and the cryptocurrency market. Their main goal is to create an easy-to-use, fast, legal, and secure way to access the cryptocurrency market for every person with access to the Internet and credit card.\n\nEON is the Blockchain they are creating and October 4th 2017 saw Exscudo reach their first milestone with the release of the testnet. This testnet is open for public testing now, instruction on how to be a part of the tetnet can be found here.\n>*https://blog.exscudo.com/exscudo/how-to-connect-to-the-eon-blockchain-testnet-comprehensive-instruction/\n\nWhile testing transactions on the blockchain is interesting I want to focus on the fact that Exscudo have also released the code required to setup a server-node, once the mainnet goes live, users who setup a masternode are rewarded with part of the transaction fees and as such can generate a passive income. (Please note at time of writing that 25,000 EON will be required to setup a masternode). This tutorial will go over the steps required to setup a node on the testnet in preparation for release of the mainnet in Q1 2018. I will go through the setup required for installations on Linux, Windows and MacOSX.\n# Linux install and Configuration\nThe basic workflow to setup a node goes like this.\n1.\tInstall Ubuntu (you’ve done this already haven’t you)\n1.\tConfigure repositories for downloading required software packages\n1.\tDownload and install latest Version of Java SDK (Version 8)\n1.\tSetup the Java Path\n1.\tUse git to clone the required files from the EonTechnology Github \n1.\tDownload and extract the Maven Packages\n1.\tBuild the Maven packages\n1.\tRun the Tomcat Server\n1.\tBask in the glory\n\nLets Get this party started\n## Configure Repositories\nFirst thing we want to do is ensure that when we build and run Maven that we do not run into any dependency issues, so our first step is to setup the server to locate and download the required software packages. To do this we are going to use apt\nPlease enter each of the following commands one by one waiting for the server to finish processing before moving on to the next command.\nLets Make sure OS Package list and OS Packages are up to date\n> *sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade*\n\nNow lets add the PPA repository in preparation to install Java SDK via PPA.\n\n> *sudo apt-get install software-properties-common*\n> *sudo apt-add-repository ppa:webupd8team/java*\n> *sudo apt-get update*\n\n## Install Java\nNow that we have everything setup we can use apt to download and install Java\n\n>*sudo apt install oracle-java8-installer*\n\n## Install Maven\nApache Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Maven can manage the build of the Exscudo node from a central piece of information that is downloaded along with all the required server files.\nFirst step is to download the Maven binaries, we will do this using wget but first its best to place the download into a directory of your choosing. My preference is to create the directories in /opt but its really up to you as long as you remember where you created the directory structure. For reference the directory structure referenced in this document is \n* /opt/ (we will use wget to download apache maven from this directory)\n* /opt/apache-maven-3.5.0/ (created when the apache zip file is extracted)\n* /opt/exscudo-node/ (manually created to store the server node files)\n* /opt/exscudo-node/server (directory created when the repository is cloned using git)\nFirst lets navigate to opt.\n\n>*cd /opt*\n\nNow lets download Apache Maven using wget (I am using my closest repository)\n\n>*wget http://apache.mirror.serversaustralia.com.au/maven/maven-3/3.5.0/binaries/apache-maven-3.5.0-bin.zip*\n\nOnce download is complete we need to extract the files using zip, if zip is not installed on your system then simply run the following command to install.\n\n>*sudo apt install zip*\n\nThen run\n\n>*unzip apache-maven-3.5.0-bin.zip*\n\nIn order for maven to run you need to add the maven bin directory to $PATH this done by running the following command.\n\n>*export PATH=/opt/apache-maven-3.5.0/bin:$PATH*\n\n(The section in green after PATH= is relevant to where you unzipped the maven directory)\nNow that Maven is downloaded and Java knows where to locate the bin directory we need download the exscudo server files from github. We will do this using git to clone the entire directory.\n\nFirst lets install git.\n\n> *sudo apt-get install git-core*\n\nNow lets make the directory for the files\n\n> *cd /opt*\n> *mkdir exscudo-node*\n> *cd exscudo-node*\n\nNow we can clone the directory from github\n\n> *git clone git://github.com/EonTechnology/server.git*\n\nNow we can build the maven package but we need to ensure we are in the directory that we cloned as the command needs to find the files required for the build.\n\n>*cd server*\n>*mvn package*\n\nYou will now see a lot of information fill the screen as the package is built. This may take some time dependant on the specifications of your build. Once this has completed you are ready to run your server-node… yaaay\nSo to run the node just simply enter the following from within the server directory.\n\n>*mvn tomcat7:run*\n\nYou are now up and running.\n### Notes:\nIf you shutdown your computer for any reason then you may need to add the path again( This can be stopped by adding the path in .bash_profile). \nThere is no need to build the package again but ensure you run tomcat from within the server directory. \n# Windows Installation and Configuration\nSome experience with creating directories and using the command line is required. You will also be required to use a BASH shell for working with GIT but this is explained in detail in the relevant section\nInstalling and setting up a node on Windows requires the process below to be followed carefully as there are some dependencies that need to be accounted for.\n1. Setup your directory structure\n1. Download and install the Java SDK\n1. Set your path and Java_Home environment variables\n1. Download and extract Apache Maven binaries\n1. Download and install Git for Windows\n1. Use Git Bash to clone the exscudo server repository\n1. Build the Maven package\n1. Run the server\n\nWhen setting up the server node it is best practice to build your directory structure first, which in this case involves creating a folder to house the server and Apache Maven files. \nFor this tutorial you just need to create a folder called exscudo at the top level of the C: Drive ( you can create this folder anywhere if you prefer just remember the path and adjust the following steps to point to your path accordingly) You can do this through explorer or a command prompt, it’s your choice. \nFrom a command prompt\n\n>*cd C:\\*\n>*mkdir exscudo*\n\n## Java SDK\nYou will need the latest version of the Java SDK which can be downloaded from the links at the bottom of this article. Just \n\n* download the file and double click to run the installer. \n* Accept all the defaults then move on to the next step\n\n## Apache Maven\nDownload the Apache Maven binaries from web page of the link below (apache-maven-3.5.0-bin.zip) and extract the files into the exscudo folder using your favourite unzip program. Remember or write down the full path as you will need it in the next step.\n\n### Set environment variables\nYou need to let Java know where the Maven bin directory is located and let Apache Maven know where the Java SDK is. You do this by setting up environment variables. There are many ways to access the dialog box to enter the variables, the two variables you need to add are:\n\nEdit PATH to add *C:\\exscudo\\apache-maven-3.5.0\\bin* (leave any current settings)\nAdd Java_Home with a setting of *C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jdk-9*\n\nhere are the main ways to locate the environment variables dialog box for each version of windows.\n### Windows 10 and Windows 8\n1.\tIn Search, search for and then select: System (Control Panel)\n1.\tClick the Advanced system settings link.\n1.\tClick Environment Variables. In the section System Variables, find the PATH environment variable and select it. Click Edit. If the PATH environment variable does not exist, click New.\n1.\tIn the Edit System Variable (or New System Variable) window, specify the value of the PATH environment variable. Click OK. Close all remaining windows by clicking OK.\n### Windows 7\n1.\tFrom the desktop, right click the Computer icon.\n1.\tChoose Properties from the context menu.\n1.\tClick the Advanced system settings link.\n1.\tClick Environment Variables. In the section System Variables, find the PATH environment variable and select it. Click Edit. Some experience with creating directories and using the bash terminal is required. Installing and setting up a node on a Mac requires the below process to be followed carefully as there are some dependencies that need to be accounted for. The steps are:\n1.
