      "body": "I think this is the year there could be a legitimate argument for increasing the college football playoff from the current four teams to eight teams.\n\nThis year three of the four teams in the playoff won their conference championship.  Not only did Alabama not win their conference championship game, they didn't even play in it.\n\nI believe winning a conference championship should mean something.  With that said, my proposal would be this...\n\nIncrease the number of playoff teams from four to eight.  There would be six automatic bids, then two at-large bids that the committee would choose.  \n\nThe automatic bids would go like this... \n\nEach of the power five conference champions would get an automatic bid.  Those are the winners of the Big Ten, Pac 12, Big 12, ACC, and the SEC.  The last automatic bid would go to the highest ranked team from the Group of Five conferences determined by the committee.\n\nThe final two at-large bids would be chosen by the committee using the criteria that they currently have established with the exception of being a conference champion since those teams make it automatically.\n\nAfter the 8 teams have been established, the committee would rank them from one to eight.  Then team one would would play team eight, team two would play team seven, and so on.\n\nLets take a look at how it would work this season.\n\nThe ACC Champion is Clemson.\nThe Big Ten Champion is Ohio State\nThe Big 12 Champion is Oklahoma\nThe Pac 12 Champion is USC\nThe SEC Champion is Georgia\nThe highest ranked Group of Five is UCF.\n\nWe need to determine the two at-large teams, so lets take a look.\n\nThe committee really liked Alabama all season and even included them in the final four without playing in their conference championship.  It's a pretty safe bet to say they'd have Alabama as an at-large team.\n\nWisconsin is 11-1, losing only to Ohio State in the conference championship game.  They are also currently ranked 6th by the committee, so we'll pick them.\n\nIf we go by the current committee rankings, our eight would look like this.\n\n1.  Clemson\n2.  Oklahoma\n3.  Georgia\n4.  Alabama\n5.  Ohio State\n6.  Wisconsin\n7.  USC\n8.  UCF\n\nSo, our matchups would look like this:\n\nClemson vs UCF\nOklahoma vs USC\nGeorgia vs Wisconsin\nAlabama vs Ohio State\n\nThe committee could then re-rank the four winners to determine who plays in the New Year's Day Bowl games.\n\nIn this scenario, each of the major conferences is represented as is a group of five team.  We would no longer have to wonder how a team like UCF would matchup against the \"big boys\".  This would also keep winning a conference championship a priority.  If a team takes care of business in their conference, they will be rewarded with a playoff birth.\n\nSo, that's my suggestion.  I don't think it will happen any time soon, but with two major conferences being left out this season... you never know.",

This is the NCAAF version of the Final Four.\n\nThe lucky four teams are Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, and Oklahoma.  Most people would argue that the committee got it right and these are the four best teams in college football this year.  Let's take a look at how they got here.\n\nStarting with the Georgia Bulldogs... Georgia rolled through their SEC schedule, beating everyone in their way except for a November 11th matchup against the Auburn Tigers.  Auburn rolled the Bulldogs 40-17, vaulting the Tigers into the committee's top 4 and putting Georgia's chances at the playoffs in jeopardy.  Georgia rebounded the next two weeks, winning both games by a combined score of 80-20, setting up a rematch against Auburn in the SEC Championship game.  Georgia got their revenge by knocking out Auburn 28-7 and securing one of the top 4 spots in the playoff.\n\nThe Oklahoma Sooners, led by Heisman Trophy winner, Baker Mayfield, used a week two win on the road against the Ohio State Buckeyes to catapult them into the playoff conversation.  The Sooners only had one hiccup on the way to winning the Big 12 Championship and that was on October 7 against Iowa State.  The Sooners may have been looking ahead to the Red River Rivalry the following weekend against the Texas Longhorns, and didn't give Iowa State the attention they deserved.  They rebounded to win the matchup against the Longhorns and didn't have a problem with anyone on the rest of their schedule, including cruising to an easy victory against TCU in the Big 12 Championship game.\n\nThe Clemson Tigers enter the playoffs as the defending champions.  The Tigers, just like the previous two teams, had just one blemish on their schedule.  They lost a Friday the 13th game in October against Syracuse.  They were really only tested one more time in a game in which they won 38-31 against NC State.  They carried this momentum into the highly anticipated game in the ACC Championship against the Miami Hurricanes and their turnover chain.  The Hurricanes proved to be no match against Clemson as they dominated the U 38-3 and secured a return trip to the playoffs.\n\nThe last team in the playoffs is no stranger to the final four.  We have the Alabama Crimson Tide coming in as the committee's fourth ranked team.  They enter the playoffs amid some controversy as to whether they deserve to be one of the four.  They are the only team in this years playoffs that did not win their conference championship.  In fact, they didn't even play in the SEC championship game.  They did finish the season with only one loss, which came against a red hot Auburn team on November 25th.  That loss dropped them to number 5 in the committee's rankings, but after Georgia defeated Auburn in the SEC Championship game, Auburn fell out of the top 4, and Bama was back in again.\n\nThe playoffs begin on Monday, January 1 at 5:00 PM EST, with Georgia playing Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.  The second game, the Sugar Bowl, will be at 8:45 PM EST, with Alabama against Clemson in a rematch of last years National Championship Game.  The winners of these two games will meet on January 8 to decide this season's National Champion.\n\nDid the committee get it right?  Are these the four best teams in the country?
