      "body": "This happened to me in Bangalore. It was one of those rainy days in June 2015. I was on my way back from office on bike. It was drizzling and messy. My Office is in Prestige Tech Park, Marathahalli. I stay in Koramangala. It takes almost one and half hours to reach during heavy evening traffic. Just like any day, I take the road under the Agara Flyover adjacent to the lake. I don't know what intuition I got that day, I decided to take another road (the one which goes to left in front of giant Hanuman statue). \n\nI was riding and there was an Auto in front of me. It was moving along a zigzag line. Out of nowhere, a bag was thrown out of the Auto. I felt something fishy and decided to check it out. I increased speed and tried to overtake the Auto, I saw the Auto driver groping and harassing the lone woman inside. I had a moment to make a decision. In a second - a stream of thoughts flashed through my mind. Should I do something? Is it worth the risk? I am not a localite, so if Cops come to know about it will it create a serious problem criminally? The deciding thought was - I too have a Sister! That's it.\n\nI shouted at the driver to stop in Hindi. He sped away. I accelerated and then the chase began. There was very little traffic on those roads. I was able to finally overtake from front, apply sudden brakes and he hit me from behind. I fell down. He came out, and kicked me before I could even get up. There were nearby huts and two more guys came running and hitting me too. I had one eye looking for the woman. She stood there shouting and screaming for help. Few moments of running and falling and utter chaos passed. I hit back at them, they gave me blows. Three of them were pretty strong and huge for my size. My body was in pain. I shouted at the lady to run towards the main road for safety and get some help. She was too scared to do it.\n\nOut of sheer luck or God's grace or miracle, two military soldiers happened to see the brawl (There is a military post nearby). They came and started hitting the goons. The goons ran away after looking at their uniform. One of the soldiers knew Kannada, he dialled the cops and they arrived after 10 minutes. We were able to retain one of the goons as he had fainted. The lady told us that the auto guy stole her gold chain by threatening her with a knife. She got scared and tried to jump, that's when her bag fell down and the driver started sexually assaulting her. She was shivering and in tears. There was a hell lot of commotion and a huge crowd now. We went to the Police station to register an FIR. The cops congratulated me on my bravery and said that I had helped them nab an important accomplice of gold chain snatching racket. I was happy, it made me immune to the pain for the moment at least. Later, I thanked the Military guys for saving me. We had tea to calm our nerves then, I dropped the lady to her place safely. I told her not to worry too much, everything is fine.\n\nShe said to me that she felt helpless and thought her life is over, just then she prayed to God to save her and that I was like an angel that He had sent. It was a miracle she said. I felt good when I was riding back, my body was in pain, but I felt proud that I have been really fortunate to do my role as a responsible citizen of this country.\n\nP.S.:  I feel good to have shared this on Quora. As a matter of fact, I haven't shared this incident yet with my family. Just for the fear that I will get blasting from my parents as they love me a lot.  There is a saying in Marathi - \"Shivaji should be born again but in neighbors house\". I am no hero, I am just a simple guy working in IT. It just happens that life sometimes throws tough things our way. I have pondered over 'What if I had not chased' aspect of this incident. I don't know the answer to that, but perhaps if I hadn't stopped and did my thing, it would have been a regret. Sometime ago, someone had saved me from a similar situation in Train (You know how weird the eunuchs are for guys!) I believe, I just paid it forward. Again thanks a bunch to everyone of you.       "body": "The experience I am going to share is really shameful especially to the medical community in India. This incident happened with my Atya’s (Father’s sister) friend. The name of her friend is ‘Sandhya’. Sandhya and Anil were a really good couple. They had two kids. A small and happy family indeed. Both were really hard-working individuals. They had created their life from scratch as majority of Indians do. They lived a happy and peaceful life.\n\nEveryone has bad days, or let me rephrase bad ‘moments’ in our lives. This day was just like that for this couple. Anil returned home back from hard day’s work. Sandhya, as ever his loving wife greeted him and bought him a glass of cold water. He drank it. He looked too tired and told her he will take a nap. He went to bedroom to sleep. After sometime, Sandhya got worried as he had neither woken up nor called her to give his medicines. She went inside, and was shocked to see Anil lying in pool of his own urine. She got scared and called the Doctor. The doctor arrived after few tenseful moments, he checked and said it is due to high blood pressure and sodium deficiency. The Doctor promptly gave some medicines and said everything will be alright in a couple of hours.\n\nAnil took medicine and went to sleep again. Sandhya stayed awake. Middle of the night he started to feel suffocation. She again called the Doctor late at night, he came and checked the blood pressure, it had shot to 220. It was extremely high and quickly decided to admit him to a Multi-speciality hospital in Panvel. Anil was moved to one of the famous hospitals in Panvel. All the formalities were done and he was admitted and allocated a special room. The Doctor’s arrived for morning round and without going through the history of medicines he has been taking decided to to shift him to a different tablet course. This reversed the recovery process, the tablets were designed to increase the blood pressure instead of containing it. The outcome was Anil had a severe brain hemorrhage. The Doctor’s responded quickly by deciding to operate on him. The operation failed, Anil was pronounced brain dead his heart however was still beating. He was put on ventilator.\n\nNow the hypocrisy starts, the Doctor comes out of OT and says he is sorry he did all he could but was not able to revive Anil back. He says he is not ‘clinically’ dead yet. He is on ventilator, even though his brain had stopped working. So he tells Sandhya that she has to make a choice whether to ‘keep him alive or plug off the ventilator’.\n\n(I pray no one, and I mean no one should face such a bad choice dilemma!)\n\nWho in their correct senses and facing such a dilemma can make such kind of decision? It’s really difficult to do it. Sandhya was in utter shock! She started to cry uncontrollably. My Atya consoled her. Sandhya did not know what to do. The night just passed this way. Anil hanging on to his consciousness on ventilator and Sandhya hanging on to him. Slowly slowly life seeped out of him.\n\nUnfortunately, Anil was not able to make it through. The Doctors pronounced him dead next morning. The bill arrived, it was a huge amount to arrange in such a short time for Sandhya. The hospital was adamant to hand over Anil’s dead body unless they paid the amount in full. It was a really difficult situation.\n\nDoctor called Sandhya inside his cabin after sometime. He said the hospital has a charitable organ donation program. If she is willing to allow them to extract Anil’s organs for donation, they can waive off some of the bill! (Really!!!)\n\nThis is the real hypocrisy. How can Doctors be so cruel, I can’t understand. This is an organ ‘donation’ racket going on. The relatives of the victim donate the organs. The doctors sell it in market for good commission and price. This is one incident that I have seen closely.\n\nIn another incident, a small baby died and a famous hospital from Ahmednagar, kept the body of the baby for a day on ventilator even after she was no more, just for the sake of money. Her Dad did a smart thing, he took death certificate from a local doctor before admitting her. It was a total blow-up for the hospital authorities. The matter was closed with mutual agreement as very high level doctors were involved in it.\n\nDoctors are second to God. It is a noble profession, but it’s sad to see how dangerous it has become. On a personal note, I have come from Nature like all of us and I will go back to her when I die. I don’t want a price tag on me. God Bless India!",
