For instance, some people attacked traders and fishermen for tying the rain. They alleged that the victims controlled rainfall in the area to benefit their businesses. The practice of rainmaking and unmaking is found in other African societies. Fortunately, the police intervened and warned the perpetrators against making such false accusations.\n\nIn another instance, ritualists killed five bald men in the district of Milange because their head supposedly contained gold. It is not clear how and when Mozambicans started associating baldheads with gold or magical wealth. Similar superstitious narratives have led to violence in other African cultures. For example, in Nigeria, those who believe that the hump contains some precious mineral attack people with a hunchback.\n\nMozambique, however, has been particularly susceptible to ritual murders in recent years. People living with albinism (PLA) have been hunted down and killed in Mozambique for their body parts. The body parts of PLA are used to prepare magical substances that ostensibly bring wealth and good fortune. In September 2017, ritualists killed and removed the brain of a 17-year-old boy.\n\n\nMozambicans who suffer ailments or death impute witchcraft, and those who are accused of witchcraft are frequently attacked or killed. In 2011, at least 20 people were murdered for alleged involvement in witchcraft in Mozambique. Some of those arrested for attacking or lynching alleged witches were even schoolteachers. It has, therefore, become pertinent to explore how these manifestations of superstition and magical beliefs are related to the idea of modernity or the postcolonial context. Why has the spread of modernisation not resulted in the disappearance of superstitious beliefs and practices in contemporary Mozambique?\n\nSome scholars such as Peter Geschiere, Jean and John Comaroff have designated the manifestations of occult beliefs in contemporary Africa as part of the dividends of Africa’s encounter with modernity. They have argued that modern changes have fractured Africa, and disrupted the lives of people within Africa. Ritual beliefs, and superstition-based practices, argue Geschiere and Comaroff, are ways that Africans make sense of these changes.\n\nHowever, the modernity argument needs to be critically re-examined. First, how is accusing traders and farmers of holding the rain or killing PLA a way of making sense of modern changes? Does modernisation propel people to make witchcraft accusations and lynch alleged witches? How is the crisis wrought by modernisation (whatever that means) connected with magical imputations and ritualistic beliefs? Where is the logic in the argument that modernity is the raison detre of the growing visibility of occult beliefs in the region? Are modern phenomena not supposed to be oppositional to magic and superstition?\n\nThere is no doubt that modernisation has brought about significant change in African societies. The introduction of state bureaucracy, the school system, science and technology, neoliberal economics and the media has led to social, economic and political adjustments in postcolonial Africa. But occult beliefs and practices predate modernity in Africa. Africans have been using narratives of magic to make sense of their lives and social organisations before the introduction of state bureaucracy and other modern institutions. Modernisation has not led to the total disappearance of magical beliefs. So, is it justified to postulate that the manifestation of superstitions in postcolonial Africa is because of modernity?",

And if you try to “get her” for a relationship before she signals that she might be open to that idea… you’re toast.\n\nIn nature, it’s the female’s role to try and get the most attractive guy to commit to her. This is because, as we talked about in “What Women Want,” women unconsciously class men they’re interested in romantically in two groups – the LOVERS and the PROVIDERS:\n\n    Often women will have a hot affair with a guy who might not make the perfect daddy, but who has a lot of traits that she finds sexually very attractive. He is the ideal LOVER, and women often chase after this kind of guy and try to MAKE him into a provider.\n\n    At the same time, there is another type of man who might not have the same sex appeal, but who makes up for it with better qualities as a father and breadwinner. This type of guy is usually chasing after HER… and even if he does get her, she will usually hold all the power in the relationship.\n\nWhich one would you rather be?\n\nA guy who is looking for a relationship is also less attractive and hence less able to attract women.\n\nDon’t be TOO easy… human beings have the intriguing characteristic of being unable to value that which they don’t have to work hard for. Everybody loves a challenge… especially women.\n\nIf you’re chasing after her and trying to win her as your girlfriend, you are implicitly communicating that you are the provider… in other words, that you don’t have the sexually attractive traits of a worthy lover, who is confident that she will chase him… or who won’t care either way, for that matter, because he has a lot of options.\n\n \nRule #2: Instead, Look for Dates!\n\nhow to get a girlfriendEven if you want to find the one girl that’s right for you, chances are she won’t be the first one you go out with. You may have to date several people to find one who’d really be a great match.\n\nAnd if you have several flings, one of them is very likely to turn into a relationship… if you simply allow it to!\n\nThese flings will also up your confidence and hence your game… they will make you go from a scarcity mentality to an abundance mentality, and change how you act around women. This will also make you more attractive... because you ARE the lover now… by definition.\n\nWhich triggers girls to chase YOU.\n\nAlso, while you’re still looking for the right girlfriend, you won’t be lonely, sexually desperate or needy… so the wait is EASY… it might even be fun!\n\nAnd don’t worry that she might think you’re a player… women may not admit it, but they find true Casanovas magnetically attractive. In fact, I once asked my first mentor this very question – won’t I get a reputation as a “ladies man”?\n\nHis answer was: “Yes, you will… and you have to nurture this reputation… every chance you get.”\n\n \nRule #3: Don’t Commit Until She’s Committed\n\nAs long as you’re seeing her only occasionally and she’s not fully committed to you yet - don’t you DARE stop dating other girls!\n\nDon’t feel guilty about it either… why should you offer a girl something she isn’t offering you?\n\nA female friend of mine went overseas and asked her boyfriend: \"Are we going to be dating other people?\" He said: \"Well, you can, but I won’t.\" She just said: \"Oh, cool\"… went ahead and dated other people.\n\nNo, no, no, sir.\n\nI need to talk to this guy and put some sense into him!\n\n \nRule #4: Don’t Strive for a “Balance of Power”\n\nSure… it’s a nice idea for a relationship.\n\nUnfortunately, in the early stages of love, the equilibrium is very unstable… and most guys who think they are in a “balanced” relationship are actually in a submissive role… even if only ever so slightly.\n\nThe reason is what we talked about above – you are, by definition, either the lover… or the provider. If you are the former, you will have a slight upper hand in the situation… and if you’re the latter, she will be slightly more dominant.\n\nIt’s just the way of nature… one of the two people in a relationship usually feels more strongly, and chases a bit more. If you would like to know more about this process, I highly recommend the book “The Passion Trap”, by Dean C. Delis.\n\nYes, it’s annoying… I used to get upset about it too.\n\nBut the good news is that once you get to know each other, entirely different rules apply and you can create an equilibrium.\n\nThe rules for dating and relationships are different, and often, opposite!\n\n \nRule #5: Fall in Love, Don’t Settle for Less\n\nPersonally, I would only ever commit to a girl when I’m in love with her.\n\nBut falling in love is something that sometimes happens and sometimes it doesn’t… we don’t have much control over our infatuation, so it’s nothing I could develop techniques for.\n\nHere’s the good news though - keep dating girls you’re attracted to, and sooner or later the right one will be among them.\n\nWhat’s more: this way, you will already be dating a girl once you start developing feelings for her – so you will never find yourself in the unpleasant position of having to chase women you have fallen for and who consider you a friend.\n\nIt is virtually guaranteed that your emotions will compel you to make every single mistake in the book in this case… and ruin all your chances of ever getting with this girl, ending up in the dreaded “just friends” No Man’s Land you never want to end up in.\n\nThis is by no means a cynical perspective… I have enjoyed several exclusive romantic relationships with amazing girls, and I think that falling in love is amazing… so long as it’s mutual!\n\nIt’s okay to have a heart.\n\nThe thing is only – I met most of these girls because I had an active dating life, and not by hoping that the right one would somehow magically fall into my lap, or knock at my door.\n\nIt is always a good idea to be a bit more proactive.\n\nhow to get a girlfriend",

      "body": "Experiencing an Ashram in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. \nIn hindsight, it seems only fitting that the final stop on my Indian journey (this time at least) was Rishikesh.\n\nI’ve come to realise that part of what draws me back to India is that it is a country full of – and place for – seekers. If India is the land of seekers, Rishikesh is the beating heart and soul of India. Rishikesh is also the Yoga capital of the world.\n\nI mean there’s even a train running between Haridwar (gateway to Rishikesh) and Delhi called the Yoga Express. To start with the term “Rishikesh” is usually applied somewhat loosely.\n\nWhat visitors mean by “Rishikesh” is the area of Laxman Jhula and Tapovan, a few miles north of Rishikesh town itself. Two bridges span the vibrantly emerald Ganges that runs between the cliffs here: the Laxman Jhula Bridge and the Ram Jhula Bridge.\nFriends of friends took me to early yoga each morning which set me up for the day and gave me more energy than I had felt in months. (If in doubt… yoga. Really…). One evening I attended the Ganga Aarti (evening Hindu prayer ceremonies) at Parmeth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh. This is the largest and best known Ashram in the area – set on the banks of the holy river. It accommodates up to 2,000 people at any one time. The Ganga Aarti were beautiful if somewhat marred by the many visitors who it seemed had come predominantly to take photos as opposed to soak up the atmosphere and appreciate the rituals.",
