| title | How to create an integrated ICO marketing campaign in English and tips on hiring the right person |
| body | This article is aimed at ICOs in non-English speaking countries but relevant to all ICOs TOP TIP: An excellent command of English is as important when creating content for an ICO as the code that your products are written in. Other tips when hiring a non-native English speaking marketing candidate pre-ICO 1. Ensure that your candidate has a high level of English at least C1 before you begin the interview process. You can get your candidate to do an online English level test before or at an interview. 2. Ask your candidate to write a press release imagining your company's future ICO. 3. Which forums would you expect your candidate to be signed up to? Do they contribute in English? Some forums might be: CrypotoCurrencyTalk.com, BitCoinTalk.org, Steemit.com, TheCrypto.pub 4. Having lived in an English speaking country should get lots of brownie points and praise! 3 important considerations when hiring for an ICO marketing token campaign First of all, there are no experts in the ICO marketing and promotion field as the industry is young. At least I would argue not at present. There are of course people who have worked in successful ICOs, or who have raised venture capital for their own start-ups, or individuals who have worked in the blockchain or cryptocurrencies for a couple of years. This is worth keeping in mind. Secondly, you don't have to pick someone who has experience in the blockchain cryptographic space for your campaign. A specialist in any of the areas below in the next section is just as important as someone entering your team or start-up cold. But, and this is a very big BUT, a bare minimum of knowledge of the space is actually a good idea as it saves time with explanations and learning things which in this space can be a very steep learning curve! Thirdly, people with backgrounds in digital marketing no matter how good their CV don't always get the cryptographic / blockchain / decentralised space. It is already a diverged space from bitcoin to the latest developments such as hashgraph and the 0x protocol. Remember community marketing in the crypto space is in some ways the opposite to digital marketing. You are not focused on increasing sales, or scoring up likes on a Facebook page. Your focus is adding value to the members of your new and decentralised community and rewarding them with tokens and other crypto goodies which can be traded at digital exchanges. Anyway, once you are satisfied that your candidate can speak English at a high level, can write a good press release in English and understands the challenges involved of the ICO marketing campaign here is a final little test you can give... Divide an A4 sheet of paper into three parts. Draw three boxes next to each other. Write 'Previous Hash' in the left box. In the middle box leave a space. The right box write 'Hash'. Ask the candidate to explain roughly what goes into the middle box. If the candidate writes, a block of transactions or scribbles down a very long number then more or less the candidate understands the basic concept of the blockchain. Now before anybody writes to me, the above test is a very personal opinion in terms what I'd expect a candidate to know but a positive shows interest and a conceptual understanding of the technology. If the candidate get its wrong help them out! We are all learning! ★How to create an integrated ICO marketing campaign in English★ The information below can be broadly applied to all ICOs as well. Communication in English 1. Think bold and visual when designing written presentations; facts and figures. 2. Badly translated or difficult to read content can be off-putting. 3. No idioms, platitudes or crass language. 4. Let the meaning of what you trying to say always chose the words; not the other way around. Form should always follow function in language 5. Always use sentence structures that make sense semantically. 6. Create mission statements and corporate logos that add value and meaning to your product or service. 7. Written content should be legible and in easy to read type fonts. 8. Always write in plain English! Don't try to be clever...You are not writing a novel! White Paper & Website Design 1. Say what your product's unique selling point (USP) is loudly and clearly. Don't be afraid to shout this out! 2. Give plenty of unique reasons to back up your USP. 3. Your White Paper is a business plan. Write in plain English! Points to remember are: 3.1 Explain what is the core protocol 3.2 Explain how far you are with the product's development to date 3.3 State who are your lead developers, main team and founders with detailed Linkedin pages and references 3.4 How far you are in the development of your community 3.5 Where's your social media buzz with links and videos 4. Your website is the product's arena pre-ICO to conquer the imagination and interest of individuals and investors who will purchase tokens. 5. Your graphic design and the body of typography should be brilliant across all your promotional material. Remember Steve Jobs studied typography. He was not a computer scientist or coder! 6. Think about how words, texts and quotes interact with the flow of images, your data and info-graphics. Avoid stock photos at all costs and pictures of random people smiling in a group in a business meeting. Original photos of your team and your product only! 7. Remember when you translate content from your mother tongue to English what you thought looked fantastic might not look so cool any more. 8. Do not directly translate brand logos, USPs or statements that sell your product in a few words in Google translate or directly word for word. They could make your product or service sound absurd. Check first! Regards General Marketing, Press Release, Social Media and Community Media 1. Your product fills a need that does not exist at present. It should never be an upgrade to an existing product. At least that is how you should market it, unique! Make sure you get this across clearly in press releases, social media tweets and Facebook posts and other information you share with potential token buyers and investors. 2. Sign up to forums and other interest groups that are associated with your product. 3. Remember the media is controlled by big advertisers and banks. The media is fighting cryptocurrencies, bitcoin and generally doesn't understand the blockchain. So don't expect any help from news media. You are on your own here! 4. Develop communities through various channels. 5. Work out additional rewards schemes for your community. 6. Post Vblogs on YouTube and Vimeo of the product's development. 7. Forget everything you thought you knew about digital marketing. 8. Lock yourself away for 6 months at weekends and get a handle on the technology if you want to get on in this space. Enjoy the journey! It is going to be fantastic and hugely rewarding! Feedback and comments welcome! |
