| body | The first banking notes issued by the Bank of England in 1695 were hand written.[1] Thereafter with the industrial revolution and increase in international trade the number of banks and power allotted to them changed drastically over the next 300 years. In 2008 amidst the chaos that ensued due to the sub-prime crisis, which shattered the global economy, a solution for the upgradation of this archaic system; became very clear to a certain Mr. Satoshi Nakomoto. In a clear and concise 9 page document [2] he demonstrated that a decentralised crypto ledger system, which can be scaled up for real world application, can prove to be an answer to bridge the gaps caused by traditional systems. Like many people reading this. I was quite impressed & enthralled when I first heard of bitcoin and what problems it sought to solve. That was around seven years ago, when my inner skeptic ruled- that this had to be a temporary phenomenon. I expected it to be confined to small groups. Then eventually like most hypes; forgotten in time. Like many of us who dismiss real applicable innovations because of habitual legacy thinking. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Present day Scenario: While I write this, there are 17.2 billion bit coins currently in circulation with a peak market cap of 326 billion dollars in December 2017.[3] The total crypto-currency market cap alone is expected to cross 1 trillion US dollars by the end of this year.[4] What’s even more significant is the development and application of the technology which makes crypto-currencies possible — block chain. The block chain system is akin to the railway track for a train. It provides the necessary infrastructure that makes crypto-currencies usable. The block chain addresses and solves many limitations encountered by traditional systems. Here are a few salient features of the block chain that make it an indispensable solution to the emerging future. Transparency. Imagine a world where all transactions that occur, around the world can be viewed by everyone or anyone. These transactions are tattooed as ledgers in virtual space forever. Knit together by an invisible string of cryptic code to keep it organised in a sequential manner. Making both mundane and crucial transactions that affect people, accessible by the general public. A similar concept, was conceived in ancient India by what is termed as the ‘akashic-records’; a hyperspace where all interactions between all living beings on this planet are stored; in a universal database. Although the akashic records remains beyond the access of regular people like you and I. We can monitor all transactions on the block chain via a computer and an internet connection. Transparency secures trust. Dispels doubt. Increases confidence, engagement and productivity. Losses encountered due to corruption; minimised. With less leakage, resources get utilised better. Benefiting all the stake holders involved . Decentralised. Another feature of the block chain which enables it to be more uniform is its decentralised nature. This is what makes it more trustable, because it is immune to manipulation by a few. It is neither governed nor minted by a single controlling power or authority. That responsibility is chosen based on the functionality of the block chain. For eg. in the bit coin network, any individual connected, can offer their services for the network. These services can be broken down to individuals investing on their own hardware, to power the processing engine that drives the network. All tasks that have to be executed for the functioning is shared and distributed across the entire network. Those that contribute are in turn rewarded back in bit coins. Utility. Unlike conventional FIAT currencies that are also symbolic tokens of value. Block chain based currencies actually perform work by solving problems, to add value. This attribute ensures the appreciation in value just by its mere function. Block chains can also be used as robust records to facilitate the transfer of legal documents, which ascertain ownership rights associated with property, merchandise, or any such goods and products. Etherium is an example of a block chain network that enables people to build businesses, create value and facilitate trade within its own frame work. This is all done without the need of intermediaries. Consumers can purchase products developed by organisations on the same platform. The compensation of the cost is assured through the distribution of etherium tokens. These tokens can be used to pay the employees of the organisation which in turn can be used to purchase other products on the network. This uniformity reduces conversion losses making it more profitable as compared to traditional systems. Accessibility. CodetoInspire.org is a non profit organisation based on etherium that provides education, technology and support to Afghan women.[5] By using the block chain tech as a tool, grass root organisations are emerging around the world. Empowering people, who previously were restricted to participate in the local and global economy. The walls that confined certain demographic groups to engage economically and politically are now beginning to dissolve via block chain tech. This in turn distributes power over communities. Preventing favorism, monopoly and other stagnation caused by conventional systems. Uniform distribution of power in turn reduces the probabilities of rebellions, increasing harmony and overall economic stability. Security. Block chain networks are spread out across millions of nodes(computers) interconnected in virtual space. Since it is decentralised, it would take an enormous amount of computing power to modify the entire network. This protects the block chain from internal manipulation. Unlike traditional assets and currencies which require immense cost to keep them secure, in state of the art facilities like treasuries and vaults, away from the reach of thieves or bandits. Crypto currencies are encrypted with a unique code that is derived from the owners private digital signature. So even if ownership is changed, the blocks of ledgers, can be tracked and the record of its movement monitored. Traditional token systems like FIAT currencies or gold, once stolen can be reused in black markets around the world. Blocks, however can be retraced. The block chain system thereby reduces incentives for theft. The world as we know it is changing exponentially every moment as never before, in known history. In this change, so will the systems that facilitate its interactions. With the increase in accessibility of information through out the planet, so will there be a change in the needs and desires of the people accessing it. Traditional systems which are viewed as a benchmark now, have evolved over hundreds of years of trial and error. The funds raised by the first Bank of England, was primarily intended to wage wars against France. Lets turn the page into a new chapter with a system that promotes more transparency, security & peace. The enormous leaps taken by the block chain industry since its inception in 2009 will make way for paramount growth, which is required in many regions of the world. Rest assured it is here to stay and at one time, for a generation in the future, will be as normal & ‘trusted’ as the very systems it seeks to replace. References: [1] Britishnotes.co.uk. "body": "\n\nThe first banking notes issued by the Bank of England in 1695 were hand written.[1] Thereafter with the industrial revolution and increase in international trade the number of banks and power allotted to them changed drastically over the next 300 years. In 2008 amidst the chaos that ensued due to the sub-prime crisis, which shattered the global economy, a solution for the upgradation of this archaic system; became very clear to a certain Mr. Satoshi Nakomoto.\n\nIn a clear and concise 9 page document [2] he demonstrated that a decentralised crypto ledger system, which can be scaled up for real world application, can prove to be an answer to bridge the gaps caused by traditional systems.\n\nLike many people reading this. Like many of us who dismiss real applicable innovations because of habitual legacy thinking.\n\nI couldn’t have been more wrong.\n\nPresent day Scenario: While I write this, there are 17.2 billion bit coins currently in circulation with a peak market cap of 326 billion dollars in December 2017.[3] The total crypto-currency market cap alone is expected to cross 1 trillion US dollars by the end of this year.[4]\n\nWhat’s even more significant is the development and application of the technology which makes crypto-currencies possible — block chain. The block chain system is akin to the railway track for a train. It provides the necessary infrastructure that makes crypto-currencies usable. The block chain addresses and solves many limitations encountered by traditional systems. Here are a few salient features of the block chain that make it an indispensable solution to the emerging future.\n\nTransparency.\nImagine a world where all transactions that occur, around the world can be viewed by everyone or anyone. We can monitor all transactions on the block chain via a computer and an internet connection.\n\nTransparency secures trust. Dispels doubt. Increases confidence, engagement and productivity.\n\nLosses encountered due to corruption; minimised. With less leakage, resources get utilised better. Benefiting all the stake holders involved .\n\nDecentralised.\nAnother feature of the block chain which enables it to be more uniform is its decentralised nature. Those that contribute are in turn rewarded back in bit coins.\n\nUtility.\nUnlike conventional FIAT currencies that are also symbolic tokens of value. Block chain based currencies actually perform work by solving problems, to add value. This attribute ensures the appreciation in value just by its mere function. Block chains can also be used as robust records to facilitate the transfer of legal documents, which ascertain ownership rights associated with property, merchandise, or any such goods and products.\n\nEtherium is an example of a block chain network that enables people to build businesses, create value and facilitate trade within its own frame work. This is all done without the need of intermediaries. Consumers can purchase products developed by organisations on the same platform. The compensation of the cost is assured through the distribution of etherium tokens. These tokens can be used to pay the employees of the organisation which in turn can be used to purchase other products on the network. This uniformity reduces conversion losses making it more profitable as compared to traditional systems.\n\nAccessibility.\nCodetoInspire.org is a non profit organisation based on etherium that provides education, technology and support to Afghan women.[5] By using the block chain tech as a tool, grass root organisations are emerging around the world. Empowering people, who previously were restricted to participate in the local and global economy.\n\nThe walls that confined certain demographic groups to engage economically and politically are now beginning to dissolve via block chain tech.\n\nThis in turn distributes power over communities. Preventing favorism, monopoly and other stagnation caused by conventional systems. Uniform distribution of power in turn reduces the probabilities of rebellions, increasing harmony and overall economic stability.\n\nSecurity.\nBlock chain networks are spread out across millions of nodes(computers) interconnected in virtual space. Since it is decentralised, it would take an enormous amount of computing power to modify the entire network. This protects the block chain from internal manipulation.\n\nUnlike traditional assets and currencies which require immense cost to keep them secure, in state of the art facilities like treasuries and vaults, away from the reach of thieves or bandits. The block chain system thereby reduces incentives for theft.\n\nThe world as we know it is changing exponentially every moment as never before, in known history. Lets turn the page into a new chapter with a system that promotes more transparency, security & peace.\n\nThe enormous leaps taken by the block chain industry since its inception in 2009 will make way for paramount growth, which is required in many regions of the world. Rest assured it is here to stay and at one time, for a generation in the future, will be as normal & ‘trusted’ as the very systems it seeks to replace.\n\nReferences:\n\n[1] Britishnotes.co.uk. | body | To take the road less travelled. Right after my master's education. I made a decision that was quite unconventional. Instead of taking a high paying job in the city. I decided to go and help a friend of mine who was running a cafe in an isolated mountain village. It was easy to be blissfull 2300 metres above the sea level. Every day we were greeted by surreal gushes of mountain mist. I used to joke that sometimes one could see 100's of kilometres ahead, all the way to the plains and within a couple of minutes the entire scenario would change, making it hard to see even a few feet away. It was hard to get bored in such a dynamic environment. Sometimes the mist would dance with the trees with such magick. That it would just leave me wide eyed staring in pure wonder! I was visited by many friends who often found it ideal to take a break and head to the mountains for some R&R. This one incident that I'm about to describe, remains a strong memory. Was a good lesson to myself. A friend of mine and his fiance came over to spend a few days with me. We had a ball of a time. This one time I decided to take them for a trek through a pine forest. Into these beautiful waterfalls hidden away from most tourists. I hadn't visited the falls for a few months. So the path was not very clear in my memory. Every few months a forest can change because of the growth of the vegetation and movement of animals. So there I was, ready to show my friends this amazing place. Somehow believing that I could find my way there. Like I used to when I was alone. Around 45 minutes into the trek. An eerie feeling started creeping into me. I didn't want to admit it to myself and in no ways wanted to show it on my face to my friends who faithfully just followed me without hesitation. As we cut through the forest I began to realise to my self. I was Lost! I had no idea where I was going! All sorts of images and scenarios started playing in my mind. Horrifying stories on the newspaper covering the tragic story of how 3 people, 2 of who were just recently engaged, went missing in the forest. My friend must have sensed the change in my composure. So, he calmly, keeping the emerging panic from taking over, asked me, why we hadn't reached the waterfalls yet? I simply smiled to him, with an honest sigh revealed that we were lost. I had no idea where we were. In order to retain his composure and not freak out his fiance, he tried to deal with the situation rationally. I was so embarrassed I couldn't even concentrate to figure out where we reached or what to do. So we took a break. I just closed my eyes, took a deep breath and let go. I realised that I had to find a way back. So just following my intuition I bolted in one direction. His fiance just followed my lead and my friend followed behind her in a very sceptical manner. He kept asking me, how did I know that I was heading in the right direction? I had no answer. I just kept walking keeping a steady pace. Something within me knew. I knew... Suddenly! I got flashbacks of how me and my friend would argue over a few cups of cask wine back in our uni days, about the concept of 'knowingness'. He was a very analytical, logical person. We always had an argument about 'knowing'. He said one can never really know. I was like, there is a space of intuition that goes beyond belief and is pure knowing. But I wasn't very convincing. Its something that has to be experienced, I consoled myself. So there we were lost in the middle of a forest. Both me and my friend totally in a state of WTF! I kept finding small animal trails and lead on. Confidently. Fortunately for me, my friend's fiance didn't lose her faith for a single second. She followed with complete trust. This encouraged me to keep pursuing on. Ignoring the doubt my mind was creating. Alas. Before we knew it. I found a tree that was cut down and used as a landmark. I instantly was so relieved! Suddenly that flush behind my ears and the tension subsided. I smiled at my friend and told him that we were just a few metres from the start of the trail. He too was sooo relieved. His tensed face just relaxed and smiled back at me. Once we reached back, he told me that, it was definitely the most memorable experience, of his entire trip. When we live in urban environments. We plan out everything to the tee. We know exactly where we'll be and where we are going next. These days with the aps on smartphones, there is such a certainty in our navigation. Which is a good thing especially if you have to be punctual and effective. However, there is something exhilarating about getting lost and finding your way back. Its as if suddenly the usual thought patterns are interrupted and our attention is brought into the present moment. The vulnerability, the mystery. The crazy insinuations of the mind. Becomes more apparent. That is where the knowingness exists. Its something that cannot be spoken about, but experienced. This space is where magic lives. This is the space where animals and birds exist. The instinct or the intuition. Once I was safe at home I thought back to the question I was asked by my friend. 'How do you know your heading in the right direction?'. I just couldn't get the answer in that moment. But when I thought about it. One thing that dawned on me was the inclination of the slope. While walking to the water fall the higher end was to our left. We were cutting across the mountain so the lower end was sloping rightwards. Although I didn't think about it at that time. Yet, acted on it. While heading back, the higher part of the slope was to our right! Hence whichever path I would have taken. It would have led back to the start! Our mind is capable of taking onto account so many factors. When we act on instinct every detail is taken into consideration. However, it cannot be logically explained or understood at that time. That is how complex and capable our mind is. So I encourage you to go out, explore, get lost, trust yourself to find your way back (within safe boundaries; of course). Our intuition is more powerful and capable than what we give it credit for. |

This one time I decided to take them for a trek through a pine forest. Into these beautiful waterfalls hidden away from most tourists.\n\nI hadn't visited the falls for a few months. So the path was not very clear in my memory. Every few months a forest can change because of the growth of the vegetation and movement of animals. So there I was, ready to show my friends this amazing place. Somehow believing that I could find my way there. Like I used to when I was alone.\n\nAround 45 minutes into the trek. An eerie feeling started creeping into me. I didn't want to admit it to myself and in no ways wanted to show it on my face to my friends who faithfully just followed me without hesitation. As we cut through the forest I began to realise to my self. I was Lost! I had no idea where I was going!\n\nAll sorts of images and scenarios started playing in my mind. Horrifying stories on the newspaper covering the tragic story of how 3 people, 2 of who were just recently engaged, went missing in the forest. My friend must have sensed the change in my composure. So, he calmly, keeping the emerging panic from taking over, asked me, why we hadn't reached the waterfalls yet?\n\nI simply smiled to him, with an honest sigh revealed that we were lost. I had no idea where we were. In order to retain his composure and not freak out his fiance, he tried to deal with the situation rationally. I was so embarrassed I couldn't even concentrate to figure out where we reached or what to do.\n\nSo we took a break. I knew...\n\nSuddenly! \n\nSo there we were lost in the middle of a forest. Both me and my friend totally in a state of WTF! I kept finding small animal trails and lead on. Confidently. Fortunately for me, my friend's fiance didn't lose her faith for a single second. She followed with complete trust. This encouraged me to keep pursuing on. Ignoring the doubt my mind was creating.\n\nAlas. \n\nOnce we reached back, he told me that, it was definitely the most memorable experience, of his entire trip. When we live in urban environments. We plan out everything to the tee. We know exactly where we'll be and where we are going next. These days with the aps on smartphones, there is such a certainty in our navigation. Which is a good thing especially if you have to be punctual and effective. \n\nHowever, there is something exhilarating about getting lost and finding your way back. The instinct or the intuition.\n\nOnce I was safe at home I thought back to the question I was asked by my friend. \n\nOur mind is capable of taking onto account so many factors. When we act on instinct every detail is taken into consideration. However, it cannot be logically explained or understood at that time. That is how complex and capable our mind is.\n\nSo I encourage you to go out, explore, get lost, trust yourself to find your way back (within safe boundaries; of course). Our intuition is more powerful and capable than what we give it credit for.",

| body | To take the road less travelled. It would have led back to the start!
