body![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZn4QRWw8Wfxf5fcti3LJMZQTDE7APJ7dqRTCx92Cb8Xd/image.png) How would you like to create a brand new life for yourself? Don’t be shy…step right up and get ready to look behind the curtain! I am going to reveal the something-from-nothing type of life-changing power that ranks right up there with the Big Bang (the theory, not the show. Nothing compares to the show…) Are you ready? First up is Will. Or more specifically, the power of Will. I don’t like the term “willpower” because it makes it seem like I should be able to buy it off the grocery shelf, right next to Wheaties, that other breakfast of champions. Mix with a liberal sprinkle of Luck, a dab of Good Fortune, eat it with the Silver Spoon you was born with, and life will be grand. That is the common mythology, anyway… and it places us in the enviable spot of being able to blame life, the universe, and everything else except ourselves for our failure to get what we want. If we were not given that bowl of Willpower, along with luck, good fortune and a spoon, how can we help being where we are? Ahhh….Little grasshopper, you need a new sensei! Life just is what it is, bringing rain and sun without regard to who is deserving or worthy of its favors. But the power of Will, on the other hand, is an inalienable right given to every human who draws breath on the face of this earth, and it can be exquisitely directed for good or ill by the other power of creation: Choice. Will is the force, Choice is the instrument. Between the two of them, everything that is, was,or ever will be came into existence. Yep, they are that powerful! What is soooo freaking awesome is that, right now at this very moment, you and I have access to enough Will and Choice to completely make ourselves a new life, separate order from chaos, change darkness into light, and generally make the Avengers look like wimpy men in tights (looking at you Cary Elwes, aka Robin Hood.) Hey, quit laughing:-) This is serious stuff. Seriously! (as I picture Blazing Saddles and Mel Brooks, sorry, I am laughing too…) This First Day business is dangerous, heady stuff! It is also a lot of fun. Think about a time you really wanted to do something, just because you thought it would be a cool thing to do. Build a treehouse, sleep out under the stars, run a mile in less than 15 minutes (my current goal), and you went out and did it. Remember that feeling? What a great feeling! You used your Will to create a vision of where you wanted to go, and your Choices built it into reality. Now I need to give a small word of advice on using your new powers, which I will actually break into three Pillars of Self-Creation. First Pillar Only focus on what you can control, and let the rest go. You know that old saying about having the wisdom to know the difference between what you can change, and what you cannot? The wisdom lies in accepting the things you cannot change. It is an old cliche for a reason. Life, as we said previously, is what it is and no matter how much you fight it it will still be what it is. Other people will also continue to be what they are because they also possess Will and Choice. You cannot do away with other people’s ability to decide what they want to do, and they cannot take it away from you. Our minds are sacrosanct in that respect. When you set out to Will something into existence, you must first be clear on what it is you want to do, and if it lies within your control to do it. I always wanted to be 6 feet tall. Did it happen? No. I need to accept that part of my physical body as it is. Now I want to weight 180 lbs, which is under my control, even though it is a difficult goal. If I want it badly enough, and make the choices that lead to that goal, I will create a 180 pound guy with a 6-pack. Does that make sense? No amount of effort will change something if you don’t have control over it. Now that does not mean total control as the only option. If your job sucks and you want a promotion, you don’t have control over your boss, right? But you DO have control over what kind of employee you are. If you be the best employee at your job, they will either promote you, or lose you to another company that sees your value. Same with relationships… Choose to be the best you can be where you are at, and the universe will bring you good things. It is the law of attraction in action, and leads into the next Pillar. 2nd Pillar Happiness is a “now” thing, not a “when” thing. Did you know that atoms vibrate? And did you also know that they vibrate faster or slower according to their energy states? Hot, happy atoms that drink red bull vibrate faster than cold, depressed, sleep deprived atoms. Fact. So here is a key that will change the way you look at your body forevermore: You are made of zillions of atoms, and they are all vibrating all the time, in tune with your emotional state. This is science, as it is now possible to directly observe the energy field of the body and how emotional changes effect that energy field. Happy people have a more healthy, vibrant energy field than do depressed people. What is so wonderful about these energy field findings is happiness is a choice that we control. No, I am not talking about being a Pollyanna here and ignoring reality. I am talking about the conscious choice we make each and every second to embrace our life as it is right now, or to reject it. It is not the events of our lives that dictate our emotions, but our reactions to those events. We control our reactions. That is why happiness only exists now, in the present moment. That is when our Will and Choice intersect with time. Each of those fleeting present moments, taken together, make up our lives. Many people have a mistaken idea of karma, in that they think that karma (the condition of their life) is immutable, something they cannot change. In one sense that is true, as our present karma is a result of our previous actions driven by intention (cetanā). The reality is that as we change our actions driven by intention in the present moment, we change our future karma. As we choose happiness in the present moment, we create a future karma of happiness. Present action=future karma. Life is what it is. Embrace your life in the present moment by consciously choosing to be happy with what you have, right now. Your atoms and karma will thank you when you embrace the third Pillar! Pillar Three You get more of what you focus on, so focus wisely. Ever use a magnifying glass to start a fire? Wisely done, you now have the life-giving warmth of a fire and the ability to cook food. Foolishly applied, you unleash a wildfire that destroys all in its path. Now that you know the secret of creation through Will and Choice, what you focus on is key. You might have noticed by now that perceptions and focus play a large role in Creation. Indeed, without perception and focus our lives would be chaos. Think of how many different sounds, sight, and smells we experience every day! our senses take it all in, but only a tiny fraction get through our perceptual buffers and filters into our conscious awareness. Of that small slice of reality is all our reactions based upon. Stated differently, change our perceptions, change our reality. Whoa…change our reality! That sounds scary and extremely hard to do..but relax:-) it’s easy-peasy and we do it all the time. Example? Think of your first crush, full-blown, romantic tidal wave of teenage-hormone-attack that you could not imagine your life without: Where are they now? What was once life or death is now merely detritus in our memory banks. We change our reality all the time, every day of our lives. We just rarely do it intentionally, with the end in mind. In the famous words of Pink Floyd “There is someone in my head, and it’s not me!” who is creating your future karma through unconscious and unintentional focus. You see, we can really want to do something and try very hard to achieve that goal, and yet fail miserably time after time. As proof, we need look no further than the endless diet fads that never work. Wayyy back in 2005 a Gallup poll found that the average adult had tried a diet 13 times…and was still not successful at maintaining desired weight! Obesity has only increased since then, despite the over $66 billion spent in 2017 alone. What people say they want and what they unconsciously do are two very different things. Karma is intentional action, consistently applied moment by moment. We must really get to know ourselves, listen to what we are thinking, stop and question what we are seeing in our lives. Do we have unhealthy habits, false paradigms, control issues and other such obstacles to seeing life as it really is? If we do, that is where we need to start changing our reality. change our focus from what we don’t want, to what we do want more of. We live with a deficit mentality of looking at what is broken and trying to fix it. What if we used an abundance mentality and looked at what we cherished, then focused on nurturing the processes that brought us more of it? Perceptions and focus are like a roadmap: if we do not care where we end up, any old map will do. If we have a specific destination in mind, only a very accurate, up to date map of how to get from our current location to that specific spot will suffice. The recipe for a life without limits really is this simple: Focus on what we can control and see ourselves for what we really are, right now. Let the rest go. Love ourselves and choose to be happy now in this present reality. Use our Will and Choice to intentionally act, in the present moment, to shape our future karma (reality) by focusing our perceptions on what we want to create more of. What a wonderful First Day this is going to be!

It is not the events of our lives that dictate our emotions, but our reactions to those events. We control our reactions.\n\nThat is why happiness only exists now, in the present moment. That is when our Will and Choice intersect with time. Each of those fleeting present moments, taken together, make up our lives.\n\nMany people have a mistaken idea of karma, in that they think that karma (the condition of their life) is immutable, something they cannot change. In one sense that is true, as our present karma is a result of our previous actions driven by intention (cetanā). The reality is that as we change our actions driven by intention in the present moment, we change our future karma. As we choose happiness in the present moment, we create a future karma of happiness. Present action=future karma.\n\nLife is what it is. Embrace your life in the present moment by consciously choosing to be happy with what you have, right now. Your atoms and karma will thank you when you embrace the third Pillar!\n\nPillar Three\n\nYou get more of what you focus on, so focus wisely. Ever use a magnifying glass to start a fire? Wisely done, you now have the life-giving warmth of a fire and the ability to cook food. Foolishly applied, you unleash a wildfire that destroys all in its path. Now that you know the secret of creation through Will and Choice, what you focus on is key.\n\nYou might have noticed by now that perceptions and focus play a large role in Creation. Stated differently, change our perceptions, change our reality.\n\nWhoa…change our reality! That sounds scary and extremely hard to do..but relax:-) it’s easy-peasy and we do it all the time. Example? Think of your first crush, full-blown, romantic tidal wave of teenage-hormone-attack that you could not imagine your life without: Where are they now? What was once life or death is now merely detritus in our memory banks.\n\nWe change our reality all the time, every day of our lives. We just rarely do it intentionally, with the end in mind. In the famous words of Pink Floyd “There is someone in my head, and it’s not me!” who is creating your future karma through unconscious and unintentional focus.\n\nYou see, we can really want to do something and try very hard to achieve that goal, and yet fail miserably time after time. As proof, we need look no further than the endless diet fads that never work. Wayyy back in 2005 a Gallup poll found that the average adult had tried a diet 13 times…and was still not successful at maintaining desired weight! Obesity has only increased since then, despite the over $66 billion spent in 2017 alone.\n\nWhat people say they want and what they unconsciously do are two very different things.\n\nKarma is intentional action, consistently applied moment by moment. We must really get to know ourselves, listen to what we are thinking, stop and question what we are seeing in our lives. Do we have unhealthy habits, false paradigms, control issues and other such obstacles to seeing life as it really is? If we do, that is where we need to start changing our reality. change our focus from what we don’t want, to what we do want more of.\n\nWe live with a deficit mentality of looking at what is broken and trying to fix it. What if we used an abundance mentality and looked at what we cherished, then focused on nurturing the processes that brought us more of it?\n\nPerceptions and focus are like a roadmap: if we do not care where we end up, any old map will do. If we have a specific destination in mind, only a very accurate, up to date map of how to get from our current location to that specific spot will suffice.\n\nThe recipe for a life without limits really is this simple:\n\nFocus on what we can control and see ourselves for what we really are, right now. Let the rest go.\n\nLove ourselves and choose to be happy now in this present reality.\n\nUse our Will and Choice to intentionally act, in the present moment, to shape our future karma (reality) by focusing our perceptions on what we want to create more of.\n\nWhat a wonderful First Day this is going to be!",

body![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNqmf5GDL3NR2xr4YEFj9ranRn8gxVeuMVpp4bxZcKQZ9/image.png) Our perception is our reality: This is one of the basic underlying concept of Yin and Yang in the Tao. Most people in the West assume that the two concepts are totally separated, in part because the traditional image shown here of two fish tightly segregated into light and dark, black and white. We are taught that light and darkness cannot exist at the same time, in the same place. Yin and Yang do not deal with segregation, however, but with balance and symmetry. Now take a moment with me and study the image a little closer. Do you now notice that the perfect dots of black and white are actually in the body of the oppositely-colored fish? Even in Yin and Yang (and in all of us) there is a tension and interplay between Light and Dark, effortless effort, detachment and great focus…even love and hate. Because of these opposing tendencies and attributes, we are able to shape and mold our lives. We can exercise choice and express our identity. Yin is not better or worse than Yang: They just are what they are. A sunny day is no better or worse than a day of rain, and most days will normally have some moisture mixed in with some sunlight. That is the way life is. The critical concept to grasp is that we need both, sun and rain, Yin and Yang, to live. The tendency to categorize everything into two opposing entities, and then label one of those entities positively (us, good, safe, beautiful) and the set of entities negatively (them, bad, dangerous, ugly) is an universal human tendency that each of us do. It is also one of the most damaging things we can do to ourselves, because we then start to judge ourselves and others according to these simple, dualistic categories. Because we are all an admixture of whatever category we try to judge others by (or even ourselves), every judgement thus stings our conscious with acrid tang of hypocrisy. Unless we are completely free from whatever fault we call out in others, we condemn ourselves at the same time we outwardly judge. This pattern of outward judgement/inward condemnation brings a large amount of imbalance into our lives, impeding our progress and learning. The way to break this cycle comes from the principles of acceptance, detachment, nonjudgement and control. A common way to learn these four principles is through a meditation practice. When we start a meditation practice, we usually start by observing our breathing as a focal point to calm our mind. We all breathe, so this is a very handy tool, as well as bringing our mind to a position of gratitude for each breath that is keeping us alive! As we focus on our breathing and try to just be present, invariably our mind will very quickly get tired of the silence and start filling it up with thoughts. If we try to force the mind to shut up, things do not go well because we get more of what we focus on (my Third Pillar), So we accept that the mind will always want to talk (it is what is is) and we do not judge it or ourselves. We love ourselves where we are. We just detach ourselves from the stream of thoughts and observe impartially what comes by on one side and leaves out the other. In this way we practice acceptance, detachment and nonjudgement. We also start, as we watch this never ending murmur, to be able to tune it out. What we become habituated to slides into the background and we do not notice it. In this way we exercise control of our focus, as we acknowledge the thought, let it go without judgement, and return to following our breath. As we practice meditation we make a very profound discovery: We are not our thoughts! We have them, yes, but they do not define who we are. This discovery then carries over to our interactions with all these peoples, places, and categories we were talking about earlier, because we can then start to practice the same four principles of acceptance, detachment, nonjudgement and control. We become aware of the constant stream of judgement about ourselves and others. While we acknowledge that right now the person or situation is what is it, we refuse to focus on the judgement and give it power. We instead detach and observe nonjudgmentally what is actually happening, not what we want things to be. We love ourselves right where we are. This allows us to detach from the idea that we must identify ourselves with this story, this person, this action and just observe it without judgement. We then can turn our focus to what we can control, which is our choices. Here is the critical distinction for learning to embrace our Yin and Yang: we do not control all the thoughts that go through our heads, but we DO control our mindful choices. As we love ourselves and detach from the idea that others much be anything else then what they are, we eliminate a great deal of suffering in our lives. Buddhism teaches that if we resist and fight against things, we will suffer but things will still be as they are. If we accept things as they are and allow ourselves to find peace, things will still be as they are…but we will not suffer. To suffer or to have peace is our choice to make, the one thing that actually is in our control. As we embrace the Tao of Yin and Yang through meditation practice and being present minded another concept starts occurring in our lives, that of Wu Wei. It is a very intriguing concept, this Wu Wei, that almost exactly correlates with being present minded, in that one flows, acts, and accepts continuously without conscious thought. The fact that it looks effortless in practice has no relation to the amount of effort a practitioner has had to expend to get to the point of making it look easy:-) Great effort certainly, anxieties...not so much perhaps, to achieve Wu Wei. We create our lives and if we need anxieties to prod us along (or believe that we do), that is what we will have in our life. If we fully accept our creative powers and our Yin/Yang balance, we can progress to the enlightened phase of Wu Wei as a present minded master who accepts that it is what it is. Complete acceptance of ourselves and our path, as it really exists, is perhaps the hardest thing in this life to master for the average person.... so yes, great effort to become effortless:-) ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmXte4FcwbpTHfc8h9NEtJjMXA5EB8dGtHNb6oDpAtU3NW/image.png) *Namaste* ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmStZ638EkXoDctQUEdU5UKceKHfcxcHLs5qK39W8GJaBD/image.png)

bodyFeng Shui as a path to mindfulness From the moment you wake up until you go to sleep- as well as through every single hour of sleep- you’re an energetic being, full of thoughts, awareness, life force electricity and magnetic fields swirling, broadcasting and animating life…. Feng Shui helps us mindfully organize and raise the energy in our lives. Dana Claudet ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmePJkvuUziQASvWmZxUY4xjwMnfuieyhLj4WDbwgcoKon/image.png) As can be seen by this diagram, Feng Shui encompasses much more than just “clear your space, reclaim your life” as many people so blithely phrase it. And yet…, the basic premise is just that, to clear a space so that good things may flow into our lives. There are 9 areas in each living space that correspond to the nine areas indicated on a Bagua map. By transforming each physical area we clear and open our inner space, thereby allowing us to invite increased blessings into each of the areas listed I am a novice practitioner, just getting started on my housecleaning, and I can already tell a difference in my mindfulness and balance:-) Feng Shui is based on ancient principles, and it works if we put the time and effort into harmonizing our lives. One of the principles of Feng Shui I value highly is that we are creators of our lives. Being present minded and acting from our core values is much easier when we are clean and unburdened. We create from a position of strength and clarity when we first unburden ourselves of past limitations, care, and emotional clutter. There is so much to explore about the interplay of Feng Shui and mindfulness that this essay will act as an introduction and invitation to the reader to look at the possibilities. I am committed to doing the research for my next book on this topic, because the small amount I have done (and applied) has led to outsized transformations in my wellbeing. As the quote from Dana stated at the beginning of this essay, we are energy beings interacting constantly with other energy fields. This is a scientific fact. Dana writes and teaches extensively about Feng Shui, and if you want to learn more about her and this topic, you can go here. Think about this simple fact from an emotional and physiological perspective: Imagine you are a magnet, like the ones floating in a compass with a positive and negative charge where one end always points to your true North . Now, if you have ever played with magnets, you will know that when you bring two ends of the same polarity (charge) together they repel each other, and the opposite ends attract each other. This is all fine and good for a magnet, because they don’t wear out (actually they do wear out eventually but I am not going into that subject) and they are oblivious to the emotional and physical damage that occurs from the constant opposing and attractive forces acting on them. Magnets don’t think or feel, they just are. We, on the other hand, are walking, talking, cognizant electrical fields that are constantly bumping into and absorbing energy from other fields, both positive and negative. And here is why knowing this concept is a really big deal: There is no neutral exchange! Every time we interact with another energy field, we either give them some energy of ours or we take some of theirs. To clarify a point, not all energy fields are conscious and moving, which is why the concept of space-cleaning and environment control is so fundamental to Feng Shui. Every person, object, and thing in our lives has an energy field that either attracts or repels us. Another way to state this is to say they either raise or lower our vibrations (another term for energy levels), because when atoms are in a higher energy state, they are vibrating at a higher level. Remember the little imagination experiment I invited you to do of seeing yourself as a magnet? What is visible is the little bar of metal that we call a magnet. What interacts with the environment is the electromagnetic field surrounding the metal. ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYvDomH9GGHQCxUt4y2ccucUuxsVdxS5G3wDNKHG8YB61/image.png) Notice that the field is strongest inside the magnet, but this is not static, but rather where the flow of energy is most concentrated. As the flow goes out the top of our heads (remember, we are a magnet!) it encounters our environment and changes according to what it encounters. That energy then flows back into our feet and becomes concentrated inside of us. Question: If we are hanging out with great people in a positive environment, what do you think is happening to our inner magnet when that higher-level energy vibrations come back into us? We are becoming higher-energy beings! Alas, the same thing happens in reverse when we hang out in dank places with unhealthy people; we become depressed, sick, tired, and generally unhealthy. Life sucks, because we are allowing our life to get sucked out of us. This seems pretty obvious for things like toxic relationships and rotten environments, but it applies equally to even the small things in our environment, because small things cumulatively add up to have big impacts. For an example, I want you to get up right now and get the closest picture you can lay hands on (or a book you have read if no pictures are available), sit down, and look at it. How does it make you feel? What are the memories evoked by that picture (or book)? Are they positive or negative, uplifting or depressing? Does it add life to your life, or suck it out? As you mindfully consider this object, you will begin to see that it does indeed have an energy effect on your wellbeing. It does not matter that you were not conscious and aware of that energy transfer, the energy is always moving. Now multiply that one instance by the thousands of objects and things you interact with every day, and you begin to grasp the magnitude of the change you can make in your life by applying the principles of Feng Shui. Now, Feng Shui has been around for hundreds of years and books about how to practice it are numerous and varied. The core idea that I want to leave with you is one you can start to practice, right now, and make a shift in your life to having a higher energy level. Realize that every person, object, and environment in your life have an effect on your energy and wellbeing. Mindfully consider what of these are the most positive, and most negative, by which I mean those things that add the most life and energy versus those that suck the life out of you. Choose one thing in each category, then focus on bringing more of the positive into your life, while eliminating or minimizing the negative outflow of energy. Work on this one person, object, or environment today in a mindful manner, with purpose and intent. If you have a drama queen for a friend, mute her social media and put he on pause for a while. If your workspace is messy, clean it. If you haven’t hung out with your best friend for a while, or seen an awesome sunset, get out and do it! Mindfully observe your environment and make changes that invite more and higher energy into your life. That is the core of Feng Shui. Living mindfully in the present moment is the best way to create our preferred future, and Feng Shui is a powerful, positive tool to help us on our way :-)

bodyhttps://www.joshuanhook.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/gratitude-piglet.jpg I want you to think about this for a minute...Are you a slave to your desires or a master of them? Put another way, is what you have never enough or are you grateful and content with what you have right now? Because if you are always wanting more and not content and grateful, you are a slave without power over your life. You live in a "happiness when" universe that never arrives. The masters of advertising, social whims, fleeting fashions all yank your chain and make you give them your blood, sweat and hard-earned money...for what?!? Vaporous illusions that never satiate your desire or fulfill your soul, but only leave you thirsting for more. Contrast that with a mind filled with gratitude and content with the abundance that exists in the present moment. We live better now than did any king of only a few centuries ago, with more knowledge, more comforts, and superior lifestyles. If we look inward and cultivate gratitude, we will rest in comfort and easy peace of mind. It is only when we look out and compare that we feel lack and scarcity. Our perspective dictates the power we retain to ourselves, or what we give away to others. The Mahan principle is the turning of life into money, to make gain off of other people's pain. When we become slaves to others by our unbridled desires, and ungrateful about what we have never being enough...it is our lives that our being turned into other people's gain. They suck our life-force to make themselves more gain. True power lies in being happy with what you have right now, in the present moment. Gratitude and contentment are the mindful practices that build the "happiness now" mentality better than any other tools I know. This takes a lifetime of practice, and it gives us moment by moment, a lifetime filled with happiness and grateful contentment as the master of our soul. ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSt7CxHanSCrzUwXaSS53TEDG6F4sTB7Nb3ksdoorTDXd/image.png) *Namaste*

Assumptions and expectations blind us to what actually is our reality by giving us an illusion of control and a scapegoat to blame when things don't work out. Something other than us and our foolish expectations and assumptions! *Assumptions blind us to our ignorance.* *Expectations blind us to our lack of control.* Can you think of two things more likely to bring our happiness to a bad end? I can't. Now imagine the opposite state of affairs, where you accept what is happening in your life without any expectation of things being different. It is what it is, and you are at peace with that. You have no assumptions about change, people, or events, because you know you cannot control those things. You focus on what you can control and let the rest go. Guess what completely disappears from your life? Drama, that's what. Drama takes two, and if you are not dancing, it goes away. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/DI4u9T4XoAUHT55.jpg And what is the opposite of drama? **Peace...** I have an A.A.A.C.C.A. model of present-minded thinking where the first two "A"'s are Accept and Allow. When we truly accept and allow ourselves to be right where we are, holding nothing back, the mental clarity we gain is amazing. Life will never be exactly what we want it to be, and because we are so limited in our knowledge (see the above cartoon) what we think we want would likely cause us great suffering. By accepting life as it is, and allowing ourselves to soak in the beauty and wonder of a life uniquely ours, we will find the end of our suffering. We will find peace in the here and now. ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSt7CxHanSCrzUwXaSS53TEDG6F4sTB7Nb3ksdoorTDXd/image.png) *namaste*

bodyhttps://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2017/04/08/22/26/meditation-2214532_960_720.jpg Meditation is not about sitting very still and thinking about nothing... It is actually one of the very best ways to release trauma and painful events from our lives Buddhists teach that there are two arrows in life. The first one is the one life shoots you with, and causes pain Illness, divorce, death, whatever stimulus it is that causes pain...that is life shooting you. That pain is inevitable. The second arrow life hands to us, and that is the one we shoot ourselves with over and over again as we relive painful events in our mind and don't move on. That is called suffering, it is self-inflicted, and is entirely avoidable. The purpose of meditation is to allow us to gain awareness of our mind and eliminate our suffering. One of the key points of meditating and being mindful about our problems is gaining the ability to let go of things that are hindering us and causing us suffering. The idea of allowing yourself to feel pain and to feel the hurt and anguish, to let it have all the room it needs to grow in your heart while you hold that feeling with compassion is that it is allowed to expand and let the energy behind it out. Once it is fully expressed and you are holding it with compassion...you’re holding your hurt with compassion... then you begin to realize that other people feel the same thing you do, this suffering. the same pain and it lets you disassociate yourself from the story, this personal pain and let it become more impersonal. The process of observing the story and disassociating ourselves from the pain and anguish we feel allows us to see events as a shared burden to have compassion about because it is our shared pain now. It’s no longer a part of my identity... it becomes a shared experience where I have compassion in unity with others in their pain and suffering. When this happens we can let it go much easier and as we let it go we heal. so with a three step process is that we acknowledge our pain and face it while we allow it to take up much room I didn’t need in our heart and we view it with compassion. Secondly When we view our pain with compassion we understand that it is not a personal unique pain but a shared communal event. And the third step is that as we see that it is a communal compassionate event we let go of the identity and the story so that it no longer is attached to us. We let it go and choose to stop suffering. I know this is a great simplification of the process but I wanting to write the core of the truth tonight, so that hopefully one of my readers may realize that relief is possible, peace can actually happen, and it starts with self-compassionate meditation. ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSt7CxHanSCrzUwXaSS53TEDG6F4sTB7Nb3ksdoorTDXd/image.png) *Namaste*

bodyhttps://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/85/Zen_motorcycle.jpg/220px-Zen_motorcycle.jpg OK...for a long time, I thought that I could find enlightenment by working on mechanical things. So when I read this book by Robert Pirsig,it made me realize why I wasn't achieving anywhere near a zen state when I tried my hand at mechanics: It was because I was bringing my troubles and wandering mind to the practice of motorcycle maintenance. Fast forward thirty-odd years since reading the book the first time, and I have just bought a 40 yr old Suzuki SP370 that I am trying to bring back to life. It starts but it is more like alive in a Frankenstein, stumbling and backfiring sort of way rather than the smoothly snarling way I wish it to sound. I don't know for sure how to fix it, but it reminded me of how the act of engaging with a motorcycle engine shows me more about myself sometimes then it shows me about the engine I am working on. Why? Because, as Pirsig puts it so elegantly (if you have not already, please go get his book and read it. You will find your mind seriously expanded about a lot of things, not just Zen and motorcycles!) maintenance is as much about form and perspective as it is about tools and action. What energy/attitude I bring to my work profoundly effects how I do the work. A craftsman cares about his work because it is a reflection of his inner self. Any type of labor has the possibility to be art. On the other side of the spectrum is the "barely good enough to get by"... no pride, no emotional investment, just pocket the cash and move on to the next victim. We all know who we want to work on our cars, cut our hair, and watch our children: The first group of people who care and make art of their work, right? Those kind of people are in high demand for their services and get paid accordingly. Funny thing is, the pay and demand are not why they do such outstanding work. Pay and demand are second-order items that derive from the first-order item called Quality. Now Quality is quite a perplexing trait...Just ask Mr. Pirsig. One of the things he describes in his book is his search for Quality. He taught English to college students in Colorado, and he wanted them to know what quality writing was, so they could produce it themselves. Sounds like an easy task? Turns out to be one of the more difficult things he had ever tried to do. Try it for yourself: name five different books that you feel really exemplify quality writing. Now get five or so of your friends who also think these books are quality and sit down to figure out WHY they are Quality. Not just entertaining prose, elegance, and big words; no, what universal characteristics make one book highly valued and another garbage? P.S. sometimes the same author writes Quality and garbage back to back, so it not guaranteed that anyone will forever produce diamonds or dross. Assuming you and your friends have broken the code and know what Quality is, now set down and write a Quality essay on anything you choose. then read each others essays and look for quality. This is not an easy thing to do! I will let you in on a key secret: The more you care about what you are writing, the better quality it will be:-) So my challenge to myself, and one I invite my readers to also ponder, is what kind of creator do I want to be? A craftsman and artist of Quality, or just good enough to get by? Now to go see if my attitude can shine through on my Suzuki:-) ![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSt7CxHanSCrzUwXaSS53TEDG6F4sTB7Nb3ksdoorTDXd/image.png) Namaste

\n\nAny type of labor has the possibility to be art.\n\nOn the other side of the spectrum is the \"barely good enough to get by\"... no pride, no emotional investment, just pocket the cash and move on to the next victim. We all know who we want to work on our cars, cut our hair, and watch our children: The first group of people who care and make art of their work, right? Those kind of people are in high demand for their services and get paid accordingly. Funny thing is, the pay and demand are not why they do such outstanding work. Pay and demand are second-order items that derive from the first-order item called Quality.\n\nNow Quality is quite a perplexing trait...Just ask Mr. P.S. sometimes the same author writes Quality and garbage back to back, so it not guaranteed that anyone will forever produce diamonds or dross.\n\nAssuming you and your friends have broken the code and know what Quality is, now set down and write a Quality essay on anything you choose. then read each others essays and look for quality. This is not an easy thing to do! I will let you in on a key secret: The more you care about what you are writing, the better quality it will be:-)\n\nSo my challenge to myself, and one I invite my readers to also ponder, is what kind of creator do I want to be? A craftsman and artist of Quality, or just good enough to get by?\n\nNow to go see if my attitude can shine through on my Suzuki:-)\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSt7CxHanSCrzUwXaSS53TEDG6F4sTB7Nb3ksdoorTDXd/image.png)\n\nNamaste",

bodyhttps://procrastination.com/assets/img/procrastination.png Hello my fellow Steemians I owe you an apology for not being present and engaged. It seems that the most important lessons I have ever learned first totally derail my life and through picking up the pieces I learn something valuable. Hence the title of this post: Procrastinator. I feel like there should be a 12 step program dealing with procrastination because it is as real an addiction, and as disabling, as any of the other outward addictions. https://28oa9i1t08037ue3m1l0i861-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/HS1.png Tim Urban at https://waitbutwhy.com/2015/03/procrastination-matrix.html gives a great series of posts on procrastination and unfortunately my brain never got past this high school stage... Actually it is worse. Because I am not addicted to anything, but rather just not doing something until a later date. I have lost control of my ability to keep my word to myself about doing my best work...instead I do the bare minimum necessary to complete a project by the due date. Despite the best advice from well-meaning friends and credentialed experts, nothing changes my behavior. Why? because their advice is written for sane people. https://i2.wp.com/www.mindsettransformers.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/PROCRASTINATION-BUSTER.png?w=1080 *so pretty and so easy right? WRONG!!* I am not sane...I am a procrastinator! There. I have admitted my addiction to the whole world (theoretically) and now am ready to go to step number 2. Truth (step) number 2: I will always be addicted to procrastination. Once an addict always an addict right? While that sounds bleak there is actually a great deal of hope embedded in that statement because ...addiction can be successfully managed. That is why 12-step programs actually work, not by getting rid of the addiction but by managing the addictive behavior. https://www.claynelsonlifebalance.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/bigstock-Great-Things-Never-Came-From-C-77745719-768x508.jpg First order of business is to have a support network that holds me accountable and in this I am turning to my followers and fellow Steemians to help me manage this addiction by holding me accountable to write consistently. I need to engage and be part of a productive group. Usually I post about being present minded and ways to be peaceful... just wanted to share that even when a person is trying hard to be centered life still happens and knocks us for a loop. The key is getting back up one more time then you get knocked down and trying again. http://thememeplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/in-other-news.jpg I am launching a book on Kindle the 13th of December and around the first of Dec. I will be sending out copies to those who would like to act as reviewers.
