      "body": "<html>\n<p>Hi everyone,</p>\n<p>First time post here. I really think the Steem community is on to something here. Therefore, I am attempting my own foray into Steem content creation.</p>\n<p>Science fiction presented through a more experimental publishing outlet: as a series through steemit. Ray Bradbury published \"Fahrenheit 451\" as a series in Playboy many decades ago. Perhaps you and I could forge a similar story, today.</p>\n<p>Here is Part 1:</p>\n<p><img src=\"http://i.imgsafe.org/69f878cc0f.jpg\" width=\"744\" height=\"1048\"/></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>A boy stands on the sofa in an opulent room. His right hand is raised, and wrapped in a black glove illuminated by a flashing blue LED. Silent and focused, a quadcopter hovers above his head. As his hand tilts, the drone pulls back and forth along with his gestures.</p>\n<p>Windows open, the outer night is animated by the sound of crickets. A faint crunching outside cuts the boy’s focus, and he closes his hand in response. The machine falls to the ground with a light thud.<br>\nThe boy’s mother then walks in- ending his half-hearted investigation of the noise outside:</p>\n<p>“Matty, you should be asleep,” she says.</p>\n<p>“No, I’m waiting for Dad to come home”</p>\n<p>“He is having trouble with work, now go to sleep. I love you.”</p>\n<p>Purple bags weigh her sad eyes. She hugs the boy closely.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>“Love you too,” the boy whispers.</p>\n<p>She then exits the room, leaving the boy to gather himself. Moments pass before he jolts violently at the sound of a crash in the other room - shattering glass.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>A piercing yell, a vicious crack. The boys ears pulse with the percussion of terror-induced heartbeats. Its reverberation drowns out the sound of a strange buzzing noise above his head.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Crouched and paralyzed with fear, the boy waits.<br>\n</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>--------</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><br>\nUnder a dark current of water, sunlight barely pierces the murk. A humanoid figure appears, sloshing into view. His goggles foggy, labored breaths send torrents of bubbles to the surface.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Rising above, a boat full of authorities in black rain jackets swarm the looming bridge. Black cars with tinted windows are pelted by rain, and a woman holds a microphone at the center of the anxious scene:<br>\n“Here we are as the FBI begins its manhunt for billionaire Gideon Pierce. His wife was found murdered last night, with his 9-year old son in the house. Gideon’s car was found abandoned here on the Eagle Mountain Bridge, indicating a murder-suicide.”</p>\n<p>The news camera pans to the car parked half on the sidewalk- a note behind the windshield written in red ink, blotted and dirty from the rain: “Suicide is painless.”</p>\n<p>“Dr. Pierce has dominated the headlines for months- trapped in a bitter court battle with authorities over control of his cybertech company alongside a looming divorce.”</p>\n<p>The channel cuts to footage of men in black jackets storming an all-glass building, lit by flashing data servers and futuristic screens.</p>\n<p>Her report continues: “Authorities are searching for the body, although the river’s current has likely washed it out to sea by now. Stay tuned for updates on this tragic story.”&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Zooming out- backwards- the cars and news crews become small as ants as they are obscured by the haze of the storm clouds.</p>\n<p><br>\n-------</p>\n<p><br>\nAmid the vast city skyline, skyscrapers pierce the sky. This room’s vantage however, rises above even the tallest. The towering man smashes a desktop lamp onto the floor and growls:</p>\n<p>“For the CEO of the most advanced company in the world, this office is straight out of the 1950’s.”&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Antique bookshelves line the walls, and the most advanced piece of equipment in the room is a silver laptop.</p>\n<p>“Maybe time-travel was one of his projects too,” his crony jokes while searching aimlessly through a pile of documents.</p>\n<p>“Shut the fuck up,” his superior demands.</p>\n<p>Mounting the usurped chair, the man's frustration turns to arrogance as he preaches to the skyline:&nbsp;</p>\n<p>“Even the smartest man in the world cannot disobey the most powerful country in the world.”</p>\n<p>“Are you sure we’re safe?”</p>\n<p>“Yes,” the man proclaims,</p>\n<p>“He refused to weaponize any of his programs- and that’s exactly why we’re here today.”&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n</html>",
