      "body": "<center>https://polyinnovator.space/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Skill-Tree-Based-Learning.png</center> <br/><h2>Taking a gaming concept and applying it to learning.</h2>\n<p>You want the quickest way to learn a skill most effectively, then look no further.</p>\n<p>Even the greatest minds cannot understand a concept fully at first, in short breaking it down is key to understanding knowledge of any kind.</p>\n<p>Skill Trees are a concept in gaming, where the user/gamer acts in accordance with a branching path of skills. Those skills in turn directly impact the gameplay, changing how the experience is portrayed.</p>\n<p>If one were to take that concept into account when learning, branching paths, and breaking down big pieces; Then the retention/understanding of knowledge will be far superior.</p>\n<p>PolyInnovator is the only place you will find out more on Skill Tree Based learning, so stay tuned with either the mailing list or just check back often to learn more!</p>\n<p>If you want one of the best ways to learn something new, then keep reading on to find out more!</p>\n<p><strong>You will get the basic idea of how to use skill trees in your learning to maximize your skills.</strong></p>\n<p>First we need a topic, or rather skill set, that you want to learn about. Then we break it down into smaller chunks to digest the info quicker. At that point most people would just do one after the other, maybe skipping one if it was too hard. A skill tree allows us to simultaneously tackle multiple chunks, or rather interleave them back and forth. When one hits a dead end, or too advanced, then you switch to another to keep progressing.</p>\n<p>It is almost like a game where you have different side quests, but they all lead up to the main goal or quest. Like a choose your own adventure game, but you choose what the actual topic/plot is so to speak.</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<h1>Choose your own adventure</h1>\n<h3><strong>People like choices, why not have them when it comes to your education?</strong></h3>\n<p>Tell me this: would you rather sit in a class hearing a lecture on a subject you're not interested in, or would you go down a research rabbit hole on a topic you're really passionate about?</p>\n<p>My guess it would be the latter, and I've gone down countless of those rabbit holes myself. Even if you haven't really ever done that before, or you're like me and you have a lot, there is something I can help you with to improve.</p>\n<p>I want to help you become that <a href=\"https://polyinnovator.space/docs/terms-glossary/self-education/\">autodidactic </a>researcher of your dreams.</p>\n<p><strong>A skill tree isn't a new concept, but applying to education is and you are pioneering with me this new frontier of learning.</strong></p>\n<p>You want a way to learn something new that will constantly keep your attention, so that you don't get bored or burned out. How might they be useful, or even be worth the effort?</strong></h3>\n<p>Every single person growing up has that one class where their experience learning was so bad that they wished they could escape.</p>\n<p>Skill Trees work as a way to distract the brain from tedious learning (yes sometimes it is still necessary, but this limits that), and exemplifies the more interesting subject matters to you.</p>\n<p>By breaking down the subject into different pathways that culminate the whole skill, then you create branching learning sprints for yourself.</p>\n<p>After breaking them down you apply micro-goals, which help you complete them because it isn't some big daunting task. On top of that you can switch between them when you get bored/distracted. Now I am not opposed to that, but I am being quite serious in this thought process.</p>\n<p>This concept of treating life like a game is not new, but treating education in that light is rather new. You have an opportunity here to challenge yourself to a new level with a skill; However the challenge is to actually understand, and even better USE the skill.</p>\n<p>You have the potential, so now find a way to maximize the opportunity. This is what I am trying to get across here: Skill Trees act like a diverging path. Giving you a game of learning, to play in life, and to truly master a skill by using the psychological aspects of gamification.</p>\n<p>That is what I am giving you here, the idea of using Skill Trees as a \"game\" to play in life.</p>\n<p><strong>SO WHAT?:</strong></p>\n<p>You may find it hard or easy depending on your video game experience, but you will solely need the dedication to accomplish it. Such as a lecture or MOOC, and\n what you choose to do with that source is different depending on the \nperson.</p>\n<p>However\n despite all that there are still ways to work around your mentality, by\n setting up systems in place instead of relying solely on the student’s \nwillpower. Systems like <a href=\"https://www.growthengineering.co.uk/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gamification</a>, <a href=\"https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-interleaving-effect-mixing-it-up-boosts-learning/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interleaving</a>, or in this case today: <a href=\"https://youtu.be/7HTgqGh-zM8\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skill Tree Based Learning</a>!</p>\n<p>All in all what that means is that the modules and lessons are broken up into a family tree of skills and topics.</p>\n<h3 id=\"e6fc\">“Traditional Learning”</h3>\n<p>The\n old format is passive, leaving the students to scramble notes together,\n all while the lecturer goes on and on. I have nothing against \nprofessors, for in fact I have deep respect. It is the way they are \ntaught to teach that I have problem with, as it prevents a massive \namount of people from actually learning the subject matter.</p>\n<p>This\n is not quite the fault of the students or the teachers, but that of the\n traditional education system we reside in. There lacks a significant \namount of innovation. The CEO of edX, <a href=\"https://www.edx.org/about/leadership\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anant Agarwal</a>,\n even states that there hasn’t been very much innovation in education \ndespite the internet dramatically changing all different other \nindustries.</p>\n<p>Though I will say he is doing some great work in the field of education towards making an innovation! #<a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/ulcweb/?hl=en\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">makeachange</a></p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>This\n model of learning where a large group of students sits while the \nteacher talks is something that has gone on for a century. Before that \nit was even worse, but then came the industrial revolution and we needed\n more people of the same caliber. Now we need the innovators. The \nchange-makers. The “Crazy Ones” as Steve Jobs put it.</p>\n<h3 id=\"a38f\">Why this Paves Way for New&nbsp;Models</h3>\n<p>The\n internet opened many new doors for the world. From agriculture, to \nbusiness, to even the fridge being able to tell you that you are low on \nmilk.</p>\n<p>The very way the entire planet operates changed. The way we live our lives changed. Now why can’t we change the way we learn??</p>\n<p>MOOC’s, OpenCourseWare, and leveraged learning has changed the game.</p>\n<h3 id=\"cbac\">New Age of&nbsp;Learning</h3>\n<p>One\n of the biggest contributors to poverty in the world is the lack of \naccess, or quality education. Just one year of school in Africa or rural\n India, can lead to a dramatic increase in lifetime financial earnings.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*5H2aVp64vlqNj4Sl01iEnA.png\" alt=\"\"/><br/><i>Source: edX Reimagine Education Goals, REG’s for&nbsp;2022,</i>\n<p>If\n we can tackle the Reimagine Education Goals with dedication, and true \ninherent effort. Then I believe the global index for the UN’s \nSustainability Development goals can be greatly increased.</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>Our\n new age systems can replace the old ones, and gives the new generation a\n much stronger platform/foundation to build upon for future generations \nto come!</p>\n<h3 id=\"2c0e\">How to Model After Skill&nbsp;Trees</h3>\n<p>The Skill Tree is a classic example of video game innovations. It allowed players to dynamically make their characters unique.</p>\n<p>If\n we can apply that same mentality, or model, to online courses then the \namount of attention that the course gets will increase. Not to mention \nthe viability of retaining the information because of not only the \nincreased attention time, but the chance that the skills will get spread\n out.</p>\n<p>That\n spreading of the skills gives way for repetitive learning, and taking \nthe time for the brain to process the information over a greater period \nof time.</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>In\n order to model after a Skill Tree however you wouldn’t just build ONE \ncourse, you would build an intro/conclusion, then three mini courses \nin-bedded within.</p>\n<p>Intro — course 1/course 2/course 3 — Conclusion</p>\n<p>You could tackle anyone of those in any order, giving way for an interrelated course structure.</p>\n<h3 id=\"5bd0\">What Are Skill Trees&nbsp;Exactly?</h3>\n<p>Skill trees are from video games that give a sense of progression, and overall increasing the player’s in-game powers.</p>\n<p>Think of Spiderman being able to shoot webs much more effectively after upgrading a skill!</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>They  can be expansive, or only a few skills (usually three is a good  number), so I dare you content creators/teachers/online course creators  to find some way to create a Skill Tree based format to your teaching!!!</p>\n<p>All\n in all the most important thing from this article today is that it gets\n you to think differently on education. Such as a lecture or MOOC, and\n what you choose to do with that source is different depending on the \nperson.</p>\n<p>However\n despite all that there are still ways to work around your mentality, by\n setting up systems in place instead of relying solely on the student’s \nwillpower. Systems like <a href=\"https://www.growthengineering.co.uk/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gamification</a>, <a href=\"https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-interleaving-effect-mixing-it-up-boosts-learning/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interleaving</a>, or in this case today: <a href=\"https://youtu.be/7HTgqGh-zM8\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skill Tree Based Learning</a>!</p>\n<p>All in all what that means is that the modules and lessons are broken up into a family tree of skills and topics.</p>\n<h3 id=\"e6fc\">“Traditional Learning”</h3>\n<p>The\n old format is passive, leaving the students to scramble notes together,\n all while the lecturer goes on and on. I have nothing against \nprofessors, for in fact I have deep respect. It is the way they are \ntaught to teach that I have problem with, as it prevents a massive \namount of people from actually learning the subject matter.</p>\n<p>This\n is not quite the fault of the students or the teachers, but that of the\n traditional education system we reside in. There lacks a significant \namount of innovation. The CEO of edX, <a href=\"https://www.edx.org/about/leadership\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anant Agarwal</a>,\n even states that there hasn’t been very much innovation in education \ndespite the internet dramatically changing all different other \nindustries.</p>\n<p>Though I will say he is doing some great work in the field of education towards making an innovation! #<a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/ulcweb/?hl=en\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">makeachange</a></p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>This\n model of learning where a large group of students sits while the \nteacher talks is something that has gone on for a century. Before that \nit was even worse, but then came the industrial revolution and we needed\n more people of the same caliber. Now we need the innovators. The \nchange-makers. The “Crazy Ones” as Steve Jobs put it.</p>\n<h3 id=\"a38f\">Why this Paves Way for New&nbsp;Models</h3>\n<p>The\n internet opened many new doors for the world. From agriculture, to \nbusiness, to even the fridge being able to tell you that you are low on \nmilk.</p>\n<p>The very way the entire planet operates changed. The way we live our lives changed. Now why can’t we change the way we learn??</p>\n<p>MOOC’s, OpenCourseWare, and leveraged learning has changed the game.</p>\n<h3 id=\"cbac\">New Age of&nbsp;Learning</h3>\n<p>One\n of the biggest contributors to poverty in the world is the lack of \naccess, or quality education. Just one year of school in Africa or rural\n India, can lead to a dramatic increase in lifetime financial earnings.</p>\n<img src=\"https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*5H2aVp64vlqNj4Sl01iEnA.png\" alt=\"\"/><br/><i>Source: edX Reimagine Education Goals, REG’s for&nbsp;2022,</i>\n<p>If\n we can tackle the Reimagine Education Goals with dedication, and true \ninherent effort. Then I believe the global index for the UN’s \nSustainability Development goals can be greatly increased.</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>Our\n new age systems can replace the old ones, and gives the new generation a\n much stronger platform/foundation to build upon for future generations \nto come!</p>\n<h3 id=\"2c0e\">How to Model After Skill&nbsp;Trees</h3>\n<p>The Skill Tree is a classic example of video game innovations. It allowed players to dynamically make their characters unique.</p>\n<p>If\n we can apply that same mentality, or model, to online courses then the \namount of attention that the course gets will increase. Not to mention \nthe viability of retaining the information because of not only the \nincreased attention time, but the chance that the skills will get spread\n out.</p>\n<p>That\n spreading of the skills gives way for repetitive learning, and taking \nthe time for the brain to process the information over a greater period \nof time.</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>In\n order to model after a Skill Tree however you wouldn’t just build ONE \ncourse, you would build an intro/conclusion, then three mini courses \nin-bedded within.</p>\n<p>Intro — course 1/course 2/course 3 — Conclusion</p>\n<p>You could tackle anyone of those in any order, giving way for an interrelated course structure.</p>\n<h3 id=\"5bd0\">What Are Skill Trees&nbsp;Exactly?</h3>\n<p>Skill trees are from video games that give a sense of progression, and overall increasing the player’s in-game powers.</p>\n<p>Think of Spiderman being able to shoot webs much more effectively after upgrading a skill!</p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"/>\n<p>They\n can be expansive, or only a few skills (usually three is a good \nnumber), so I dare you content creators/teachers/online course creators \nto find some way to create a Skill Tree based format to your teaching!!!</p>\n<h3 id=\"6073\"></h3>\n<p>All\n in all the most important thing from this article today is that it gets\n you to think differently on education. You can go about that endeavor through a Modular Degree, and if need focus on test out credits for college completion. That is if a paper degree is worth it to you in the long run. All of that can start here in PolyInnovator Academy, here are the details...</p>\n<p>Here on the PolyBlog we go into detail on how to go about the process of innovative Self-Education. If any point is to come across to you today, let it be this: College is not the end all be all. Is it your family, your job, your car, your hobbies, or perhaps you have that passion for something. That grand ambition you want to work towards, and previously you thought that school was the only way to get there.</p>\n<p>Just today I realized that in order to get things done, particularly this Omni-Content as it were, that I would have to get up early. I actually woke up naturally at 5:30AM despite going to sleep at midnight. I got up, cooked breakfast, drank some coffee, and played a game to stimulate my mind. All in effort to be ready for this endeavor.</p>\n<p>For me it was a matter of getting up, for you it may be more, and really why shouldn't it be? Shouldn't anything in life take the deep knowledge learning experiences to be of value to you? Meaning that you have to work for it, in order to get there?</p>\n<p>I'm here to tell you that you should be learning to accomplish your goals. This particular post is meant to get you thinking about if college is the right play or not.</p>\n<p>Listen I understand that society has cultivated this mindset that if you don't go to college then you're a failure. That exam allows you to test out of certain credits and classes.</p>\n<p>A good example is:</p>\n<p><a href=\"http://bain4weeks.com/\">bain4weeks.com/</a></p>\n<p>Whenever you spend time learning just one class, there is a lot of potential overlap, or even wasted time that could be spent elsewhere. Perhaps during one of your easy classes that you already have an A+ in, then you can spend the time on something different. Not only stimulating your mind more, but also taking advantage of previously <em>wasted </em>time (becasue the time spent on the already passing class was not being used to the fullest).</p>\n<p>Conversely, if you are like me and don't have a degree yet, then you can spend your time outside of work. Even if you have a family, there is some point in the day where you are alone.</p>\n<p>Find that extra time, make it if you have to, stop watching Netflix, and get to studying!</p>\n<p></p>\n<h3><strong>How can you fit in time to learn on your own?</strong></h3>\n<p>Listen to a podcast based around your line of study, or intended education, while on your way to work. Search the internet for resources around your intended learning experience, while in study hall. How could you make it easier by self-learning?</strong></h3>\n<p>Take this moment and think about what it is that you could be doing to make this process quicker and easier. Even if you can't make it easier due to the sheer knowledge base (like say for a hard science); Can you spend time learning some basic stuff like coding or the vocabulary, which would in turn give you a boost in the long run?</p>\n<p><strong>Okay you found the task that will get you one step closer.</strong> Ask yourself these questions:</p>\n<p>How much time will you be able to spend?</p>\n<p>How long do you think it will take to gain this minor skill?</p>\n<p>What resources or websites do you have, that will help you accomplish this?</p>\n<p>Can you maximize your time by not eating?
