      "title": "The Venezuelan Andes",
      "body": "The region of the Venezuelan Andes is conformed by the states Táchira, Mérida and Trujillo, is one of the parts of Venezuela that presents greater contrasts of climate and vegetation, which offers a great variety of ecological floors to which to adapt. In the ecological floors there is a formation of different sequences of environmental or ecological units, defined mainly by their vegetation. In each ecological unit, there are particular environmental conditions of temperature and precipitation that can be associated with characteristic agricultural systems, for example, the wheat and forage systems in the Páramo ecological units or the coffee system in the Selva Semicaducifolia unit.       "body": "El trigo fue uno de los principales cultivos que modificó la fertilidad de los suelos en las Unidades ecológicas Bosque Siempreverde seco y Páramo. Este cultivo además de estar asociado a la siembra en fuertes o altas pendientes (las cuales no eran sembradas por los indígenas anteriormente por ser tierras más frágiles), arado constante (aproximadamente tres arados por ciclo de cultivo: preparación del terreno, arado para el control de malezas y arado para tapar las semillas), falta de reposición de nutrientes extraídos y poca incorporación de materia orgánica (no utilizaban abono, solo el estiércol de los animales que pastoreaban los rastrojos), requería de mucha fuerza de trabajo animal, tanto para el arado y la trilla como para su comercialización, lo cual fue generando que el pastoreo y pisoteo del ganado se sumaran al proceso erosivo. Todo esto ocasionó el abandono posterior de muchas de estas laderas, observándose en la actualidad la formación de cárcavas en algunas laderas destinadas al trigo y que la vegetación natural no ha podido recuperarse, presentando baja cobertura vegetal a pesar del abandono lo que demuestra la poca reversibilidad del daño ambiental ocasionado. El auge del trigo se prolongó hasta el año 1850, pues además de la fuerte degradación ambiental que implicó este monocultivo, empezó a decaer debido a la competencia por precios más bajos generados por otros países.       "body": "Wheat was one of the main crops that modified the fertility of the soils in the ecological units Dry Evergreen Forest and Páramo. This crop in addition to being associated with planting on steep or steep slopes (which were not planted by the indigenous previously for being more fragile land), constant plowing (approximately three plows per crop cycle: preparation of the land, plow for control of weeds and plow to cover the seeds), lack of replacement of extracted nutrients and little incorporation of organic matter (they did not use compost, only the manure of the animals that grazed the stubble), required a lot of animal work force, both for the plowing and threshing as for its commercialization, which was generating that the grazing and trampling of cattle would be added to the erosive process. All this caused the subsequent abandonment of many of these slopes, currently observed the formation of gullies on some slopes for wheat and that the natural vegetation has not been able to recover, presenting low plant cover despite the abandonment which demonstrates the low reversibility of the environmental damage caused. The wheat boom lasted until 1850 because, in addition to the strong environmental degradation that this monoculture implied, it began to decline due to competition for lower prices generated by other countries.       "body": "El trigo fue uno de los principales cultivos que modificó la fertilidad de los suelos en las Unidades ecológicas Bosque Siempreverde seco y Páramo. Este cultivo además de estar asociado a la siembra en fuertes o altas pendientes (las cuales no eran sembradas por los indígenas anteriormente por ser tierras más frágiles), arado constante (aproximadamente tres arados por ciclo de cultivo: preparación del terreno, arado para el control de malezas y arado para tapar las semillas), falta de reposición de nutrientes extraídos y poca incorporación de materia orgánica (no utilizaban abono, solo el estiércol de los animales que pastoreaban los rastrojos), requería de mucha fuerza de trabajo animal, tanto para el arado y la trilla como para su comercialización, lo cual fue generando que el pastoreo y pisoteo del ganado se sumaran al proceso erosivo. Todo esto ocasionó el abandono posterior de muchas de estas laderas, observándose en la actualidad la formación de cárcavas en algunas laderas destinadas al trigo y que la vegetación natural no ha podido recuperarse, presentando baja cobertura vegetal a pesar del abandono lo que demuestra la poca reversibilidad del daño ambiental ocasionado. El auge del trigo se prolongó hasta el año 1850, pues además de la fuerte degradación ambiental que implicó este monocultivo, empezó a decaer debido a la competencia por precios más bajos generados por otros países.
