      "body": "I've spoken at length how the government response to covid is [class warfare](https://steemit.com/covid/@pistolpete/how-the-government-response-to-covid-19-is-used-to-harm-people) and involved the [biggest transfer of wealth](https://time.com/5888024/50-trillion-income-inequality-america/) from the middle class to the weathly in my lifetime.  I've also spoken about how it's creating a caste system in the United States, using the example of service workers who are forced to wear masks while people using those services do not.  It goes greater than that, and New Years Eve is a great example.  \n\nThis caste system was really obvious during the [Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade](https://www.macys.com/social/parade/), where only a select few celebrities were allowed to witness the parade in person, while the rest of us in the lower caste got to watch from home.  The same is happening tonight.  While in my area venues uses by the plebes are [forced to close at 11](https://www.kmov.com/news/new-year-s-eve-celebrations-in-st-louis-cut-short-due-to-continued-covid-19/article_10c82d38-4b16-11eb-acf2-23c5e339008a.html?block_id=990844) or [not allowed to be open at all](https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news/2020/12/14/st-louis-county-extends-ban-on-indoor-dining.html), we will get to watch celebrities of a higher class celebrate.  We are stuck in homes, they are living high.  Pay attention to this- as it's the new normal.  Politicians, celebrities and ultra wealthy will be awarded freedoms and privileges that the lower castes are not.  We will see this over and over this year to normalize the behavior.\n\nSome countries are futher along than the US, like Canada.  Canada has been one of the most locked down countries in the world this year, and they already refer to their government controlled wilderness as [Crown Land](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_land).  Access to that land [was cut off for all people](https://www.ofah.org/crown-land-camping-prohibited-effective-immediately-due-to-covid-19/) except government agents as a part of the Canadian government response to this year's corona virus.  That's not a move that prevents the spread of course, since outdoor exercise is recommended as a way to stay healthy, but an advancement of a caste system.\n\nIn countries like the US, land controlled by the federal government is referred to as [Public Land](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_land) because the intent was for it to remain open to all people to use.  However, even here that has [been changing](https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/public-land-closures-reopenings-during-covid-19).  It's all intentional.  One of the stated agendas of the World Economic Forum is to remove humans from [rural and wilderness areas](https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2016/11/the-world-s-lost-one-tenth-of-wilderness-in-20-years-we-ll-have-to-act-fast-to-save-the-remainder/) and concentrate them in smart cities.  Only a select few in the upper caste will be allowed to visit these closed off areas.  The moves this year are baby steps towards acheiving that.  \n\nIt's not a new push either.  In 2001 the United States decreed one third of federally controlled public lands to be \"roadless\" which [prohibited vehicle traffic](https://www.pbs.org/now/shows/408/rules.html).  In one brush of the pen one third of all publicly accessable land was cut off to people for many uses.  It was sold as an environmental rule change, but the effect was quite different.  Take the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri for example- the Forest Service installed posts to block vehicle access to lakes by vehicles, then turned around and [poured a blacktop path](https://www.accessiblenature.info/?page_id=216) to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act since they cut off access to people in wheelchairs.  The act wasn't about protecting the environment, it was about taking away access.  \n\nLook at how sports are being treated as another example.  My hockey league still hasn't been able to complete [games scheduled for March](http://www.hna.com/leagues/notice_board.cfm?leagueID=5766&clientID=2296) due to lockdowns while the NHL finished their season and has another season scheduled.  The professional players get special treatment and like 2020, only celebrities or the politically connected will be able to attend games at their whim.  The rest of us get to watch from home.\n\nHow many times have [politicians been caught](https://www.chicagotribune.com/columns/john-kass/ct-coronavirus-politics-kass-20201119-xhjzzi46kfcbfa7kq2xal35wze-story.html) [breaking their own rules](https://thefederalist.com/2020/12/03/rules-for-thee-but-not-for-me-a-rundown-of-lockdown-leftists-ignoring-their-own-rules/) when it comes to quarantines and lockdowns?  In my own town Sam Page locked down all of St Louis County, and just went to a nice sit down restaraunt in nearby St Charles County.  Happily, the owner of that restaraunt refused him service. \n\nThis will go on until people push back.  I see so many people happy to see 2020 end with the expectation that 2021 will be better.  Next year won't be any better than this year unless each of us changes to make that happen.  If we all act the way we did this year, 2021 will be worse in many ways.  Take a moment to ponder actions you can take to make 2021 a better year for humanity than 2020.  Together, we can do it.",

      "body": "This post has a lot of words, and a lot of citations.  If you want the gist, or tl;dr, just watch the video from JP at the very bottom.  He hits many of my points in a much more entertaining manner.  But if you want more detail and dozens of citations, please keep reading! \n\nThe government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic has never had the goal to minimize death or suffering from the disease.  Instead, the US government response to the pandemic has the explicit goal of benefitting the ultra-wealthy, destroying the middle class, reducing freedom and advancing agendas towards total surveillanceand implementing a police state.  The virus was used as an excuse to advance an existing agenda that can be traced back to 1992 in the United States.  \n\nThat's a pretty significant statement that I am sure sounds incredulous at first and I hope to use this moment to show why I think it is supported in fact.  Because of that, this post is going to be longer than most of what I've written.  Grab a comfy seat and a beverage and let's dive in!\n\nStarting a year ago, when most people first heard about Covid-19, I thought it sounded fishy.  At that time, I didn't have any real information on it save what was coming out of China on leaked video, and I'm a skeptic by nature, so I took time to absorb information as it became available rather than assume news reports were accurate.  In general I'm skeptical of anything I see on the news, so often they are spun so much that the telling of a story on the news barely resembles the event that actually happened.  The more I read the more I realized the US government response to the virus was doing more harm than the virus itself and many US citizens are only supportive of those actions because of constant propaganda.\n\nSo I'll start with discussing that propaganda.  You may or may not realize that in [2014 Obama ended the restriction that prevented the federal government](https://foreignpolicy.com/2013/07/14/u-s-repeals-propaganda-ban-spreads-government-made-news-to-americans/) from engaging in propaganda by [repealing the Smith-Mundt act](https://www.rcreader.com/commentary/smith-mundt-modernization-act-2012) as part of the defense reauthorization bill.  This opened the door for federal agendas to be injected into general advertising, TV shows, sports programming and social media.  The year after Smith-Mundt was repealed the federal government spent [$56 million on propaganda](https://www.statista.com/statistics/192210/us-ad-spending-of-the-us-government/), which in the budget is called \"Information Campaigns\".  Each year since then that amount spent has increased exponentially.  The US government spent [1.5 billion in 2017 in propaganda](https://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-17-711), up from [900 million in 2015](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/federal-eye/wp/2015/10/14/public-relations-and-advertising-are-a-black-box-in-government-spending/).  This year isn't over, but it looks like the amount spent on propaganda is going to be several times the amount spent in 2017.  Once that door was opened it's increased a huge amount every year.  \nAnd it's not just the US, take the UK- the British government has [become one of the largest advertisers](https://digiday.com/media/the-government-is-becoming-u-k-news-publishers-most-important-client/) in the country.  Our government spends billions of dollars a year on propaganda.  \n\nConsider spending, the US spent a total of [1.62 Trillion ](https://www.usaspending.gov/) up until December on their covid response.  Add to that the 900 Billion December Stimulus and the total comes to over 2.5 trillion, and very little of that went to actually help people or battle the virus.  The pandemic and the resulting stimulus bills were used to funnel money to billionaires and the most powerful corporations, while the small independent businesses were punished with shutdowns.  In fact, in 2020 alone the Federal Reserve created 35% of all the dollars in total circulation according to the [M1 report they publish](https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CDC20N2U029189).  This means that as many dollars were created in 2020 as were created the entire 40 years between 1975 and 2015.  That's going to usher in huge inflation.  Inflation hurts the poor and middle class much more than the wealthy- in fact often times the [wealthy benefit greatly from inflation](https://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-fed-has-fueled-inflation-and-its-helping-the-rich-2016-05-23).  \n\nLet's look at that first stimulus bill passed back in the spring, the CARES act.  Only 100 billion for hospitals and medical facilities.  Does that seems odd to you?  $500 billion was set aside for large corporations, but only a fifth of that to all health care services.  Also- in a seperate action the federal government [gave out a trillion in interest free loans to huge banks](https://reason.com/2020/03/12/federal-reserve-promises-a-trillion-plus-in-short-term-loans-to-banks/ ). Did Walmart and Amazon and [JP Morgan Chase](https://moguldom.com/303038/jp-morgan-chase-we-think-some-of-our-employees-looted-the-ppp-covid-19-bailout-funds/) need to be given taxpayer money?  They are all having record profits this year, along with many other huge companies.  McDonalds is doing great while your local restaraunt isn't allowed to have indoor seating.  [The stimulus made the rich richer](https://time.com/5845116/coronavirus-bailout-rich-richer/) and was completely ineffective at helping regular people or stopping the spread of the virus.  Out of 2.2 Trillion hospitals and health care facilities only got 100 billion earmarked!  I know I keep repeating that, but it's really one of the core issues here.  Health care only recieved double what went to pay off student loans for people, which got 43.7 billion.  The CARES act wasn't about a pandemic, it was used to pay off people who got congress elected.  It's shameful.  If you want to look over a nice info graphic describing where the money went, [this one is pretty good](https://www.marketwatch.com/story/two-trillion-dollars-heres-where-all-that-coronavirus-stimulus-money-is-going-2020-03-30).\n\nOn top of that, some of the largest banks in the country decided they could make a quick buck illegally by taking advantage of the hastily written stimulus.  JP Morgan Chase is being [sued over misconduct involving stimulus funds](https://casetext.com/case/johnson-v-jpmorgan-chase-bank-na-3) and that's just one of [many legal challenges against financial institutions for misconduct](https://www.law360.com/articles/1318818).  Even the financial journals have said that [workers just weren't benefitted by the money that was given to companies in the stimulus](https://www.barrons.com/articles/cares-act-workers-companies-unfair-coronavirus-aid-51586983332).  While big business thrived and used the money to buy back stock to make their shareholders and boards even more wealthy, the state and local governments starting forcing restrictions on small businesses.\n\nLet's talk about all these restrictions next starting with one of the most obvious- mask mandates.  [Most states have mask mandates](https://www.kmov.com/news/most-states-now-require-face-masks-to-reduce-the-spread-of-covid-19-these-are/article_83433ce0-8b8f-5eff-829d-ff7e9afd8db3.html?block_id=985911).  Do mask mandates make us safer?  Do states that have mask mandates have less infections or deaths than those that don't?  **No.**  The numbers don't back that up.  In fact, New York City, one of the regions with the most draconian lock down measures has the [worst death rate by far](https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/covid-19-is-largest-mass-fatality-incident-in-modern-nyc-history-new-report-says/2624598/).  New York City counts for [8 percent of covid deaths for the whole United States](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/nyregion/new-york-city-coronavirus-cases.html), while it is only 2.5% of the population.  On average three times as many people are dying there than the rest of the country.  They are obviously doing something wrong with their approach of lockdowns, mask mandates and other restrictions.  Let's take a moment to look at one of those restrictions- closing all restaraunt dining rooms.  By their own statistics, only [1% of covid cases in NYC come from restaraunts](https://reason.com/2020/12/14/just-1-3-of-nyc-covid-cases-are-coming-from-restaurants-why-has-cuomo-banned-indoor-dining/).  Closing them isn't a rational way to reduce infections, so we have to instead ponder what the real goal of that is.  It's not based in math or science as an effective way to prevent the spread of a virus.\n\nI decided to look more local for mask related data.  I live in a state that doesn't have a mask mandate but several counties in that state have mask mandates and other restrictions.  I'm going to look at St Louis County, where I live, and two neighboring counties- Jefferson County and St Charles County.  St Louis County has had heavy restrictions in place since the spring which includes mask mandates, significant restrictions on dining and reduced hours mandated for many stores and restaraunts.  St Charles and Jefferson Counties, which border St Louis County, have had no mask mandate until just a couple weeks ago and no or much fewer restrictions on businesses.  As well, the recently pushed mask mandate in those two counties has been widely ignored.  I play hockey in St Charles County and mask compliance at the rink and the nearby bar and grill we visit for a beer after games is maybe 20%.  I am a member of a shooting range in Jefferson County and 2 out of 3 visits since they mask mandate the employees are the only people wearing masks.  In St Louis County the mask mandate is widely adhered to by citizens and visitors.  When I skate at the rink in St Louis county the employees will actively harass anyone who isn't masked up.  The approaches of the counties are radically different.\n\nHow has that disparity in approach effected the infection and mortality rates?  If we believe the propaganda then the counties without mask mandates and restrictions should be just full of dead and infected people.  Yet, we see that isn't the case.  See this chart for details, which is the best information as of December 14th, when I gathered this information.  All data was taken from [USA Facts website](https://usafacts.org/visualizations/coronavirus-covid-19-spread-map/state/missouri) for consistency in reporting.  Different sources show different numbers, but the ratio between sources was the same on the data sources I checked.\n\nArea|Total Pop|Covid Case|Infections/100k|Deaths|Deaths/100k\n-| -| -| -| -| -|\nSt Louis County | 994205 | 53282 | 5359 | 1082 | 109\nSt Charles County | 402022 | 23619 | 5875 | 234 | 58\nJefferson County | 225081 | 13119 | 5829 | 113 | 50\n\n\nSo what do we see, percentage-wise?  Both St Charles and Jefferson Counties average a little bit higher when it comes to reported infections than St Louis County- 5.8 and 5.9k per 100k people vs 5.4k in St Louis County.  That's indeed an increase, but not a terribly large one.  If we then look to death rate however, we see a very significant disparity.  St Louis County has double the death rate of the other two counties.  But even St Louis County pales in comparison to NYC, which comes in at 296 deaths per 100k citizens, more than 5 times St Charles and Jefferson Counties and almost triple the St Louis County average.  At least in this analysis, mask mandates and lockdowns don't make people safer.  I've seen other people do similar work and it always comes out the same- places with mask mandates don't have any better outcomes than those that don't.\n\nThere is no positive correlation between mask mandates and health outcomes, despite the constant stream of propaganda telling you otherwise.  In fact, there seems to be a negative correlation- the areas with the highest death rates are areas that have mask mandates.  Masks are not helping and it's very probable they are hurting.  Even Fauci famously said at the beginning that people shouldn't wear masks.  Actually, every media outlet I found in [March said to not wear masks](https://steemit.com/coronavirus/@thepholosopher/coronavirus-media-headline-manipulation-the-history-they-want-you-to-forget). As well, Fauci was part of a [study in 2008](https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/bacterial-pneumonia-caused-most-deaths-1918-influenza-pandemic) that showed that bacterial pnuemonia killed more people than the flu during the Spanish Flu pandemic, primarily from improper hygene regarding face coverings.  Everyone I see is wearing masks improperly and is likely putting their health at risk due to that behavior.  Fauci knows that masks aren't improving health outcomes.  Why are masks pushed so hard then?  \n\nImproper mask wearing makes people sick as shown in that 2008 report, and more people that feel unwell keeps people afraid.  Mask wearing also dehumanizes people.  It creates an issue in which people who support masks think less of people who don't.  It creates and \"us\" and \"them\" wedge in communities and families.  There are even scores of instances in the US where people who weren't wearing masks were attacked by people who support mask wearing.  It's become a huge issue to disagree on, which keeps people distracted from the broader effects of government policy.  Wearing a mask shows support for the government propaganda machine, it makes the wearer an evangalist for the government approach.  It demonstrates to the people pushing these mandates that people are willing to be compliant with anything they say, regardless of the science or outcome.  And it just starts with masks- what else does that government response include other than mandatory mask wearing?\n\n - Social Distancing - a newly created term to discourage human contact\n\n - Closing playgrounds while leaving liquor stores open\n\n - Telling churches they can only seat 25% of their capacity or [closing access altogether](https://reason.com/2020/12/10/brickbat-blocked-from-the-church/) while allowing Walmart to be packed\n\n - Keeping children out of libraries but leaving casinos open to operate\n\n - Closing gyms but leaving fast food drive throughs open\n\n - They [kicked kids out of college](https://www.kmov.com/news/two-students-expelled-three-suspended-for-violating-mizzous-covid-19-rules/article_f741f852-f77e-11ea-9df2-1f925346479a.html), instead of allowing them to [develop herd immunity](https://www.politico.com/news/2020/12/16/trump-appointee-demanded-herd-immunity-strategy-446408) as suggested by docotors.\n\n - Demanding stores reduce their hours, which increases shopper density while they are open\n\n - [Choosing winners and losers](https://www.marketwatch.com/articles/these-debt-heavy-industries-stand-to-fare-worst-during-the-virus-crisis-51584742383) in who gets to stay open and who doesn't, sometimes even [targeting political rivals](https://www.kmov.com/news/city-orders-downtown-restaurant-to-close-cites-continuous-covid-19-violations/article_03961c1a-3f45-11eb-b6a7-4f9f48c6553e.html?block_id=990844)\n\n - Pushing Contact Tracing, which will be used for [predictive policing](https://openscholarship.wustl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=6306&context=law_lawreview) and [social credit scores](https://www.wired.co.uk/article/china-social-credit-system-explained).\n\n - Promoting the idea of a [health passport](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-tech/back-to-work-not-without-a-check-in-app-immunity-passport-idUSKBN24701B) which will decide who can take the bus, get on a plane, buy groceries or go to work.\n\n - Stopping live music, [art](https://theconversation.com/parts-of-life-will-be-damaged-forever-arts-workers-describe-the-pandemics-impact-on-their-mental-health-147252) and any celebratory festival, like weddings and retirement parties.\n\n - It's increased the [violent crime rate](https://www.radio.com/kmox/articles/news/2020-homicides-rivals-total-coronavirus-deaths-in-st-louis) in many cities due to all the forced unemployment.\n\n - Has [doubled incidents of hunger and starvation in the world](https://fortune.com/2020/10/26/covid-19-hunger-food-insecurity-coronavirus/) and cause [more people to starve than die of the virus](https://time.com/5864803/oxfam-hunger-covid-19/).  Even in my local area, [people are going hungry](https://www.kmov.com/news/high-level-of-need-straining-food-banks-in-st-louis-area-nationwide/article_90cf6c74-dc7c-5d27-8f6f-5b1500c8e44e.html?block_id=676556)\n\nThose fighting hunger say they’ve never seen anything like this in America, even during the Great Recession of 2007-2009.  The organization has seen a 60 percent average increase in food bank users during the pandemic: about 4 in 10 are first-timers.  As well, the Salvation Army says [requests for assistance have tripled](https://www.kmov.com/news/as-requests-for-assistance-triple-salvation-army-steps-up-to-help-hundreds-of-metro-east/article_c2089186-39ab-11eb-a513-432ebe45c372.html?block_id=991626).  People are really hurting right now, not due to the virus, but due to the lockdowns and other restrictions.  The response to the virus is doing more harm than the virus itself.  It's hitting [children especially hard](https://www.kmov.com/news/letters-to-santa-reveal-the-toll-the-pandemic-is-taking-on-kids/article_6bbb0654-0def-5510-bf8f-b6312bc05320.html?block_id=985911).\n\nPeople who wear masks show their support for these policies, whether they realize or not.  They show their compliance at the least and their enthusiastic support at the worst.  People who promote mask wearing are complicit in spreading these policies, policies that do obvious harm to other humans.  They become a part of that propaganda machine through social pressure.  That's my primary issue with mask mandates.  If someone freely chooses to wear a mask that's completely different.  People over 75 are at a much higher risk than other people and it's perfectly reasonable that they would choose to be more cautious.  Convincing children they have to stay 6 feet away from their friends and wear a mask or they are going to kill grandma is evil and qualifies as child abuse, yet we see the news, government announcements, schools and even parents pushing that narrative constantly.   Just look at what children are being [taught today](https://www.bitchute.com/video/UMiL5gYHhspb/), it's horrifying.\n\nThat constant messaging is the core of the government driven propaganda I mentioned earlier.  It's omnipresent, like the hand of God or Big Brother from that well known dystopian novel.  You can't escape it- it's on billboards, news shows and websites, in commentary by radio shock jocks, public service anouncements by sportsball players and everywhere on social media.  It's been a message repeated every 5 minutes for 9 months on every possible avenue.  The messaging is way over the top.  An education campaign can stop once the message is out.  Propaganda requires constant reinforcement to convince people to believe things that aren't true.  This is solidly in the propaganda camp.  And it's been effective!  Just think how many people you know who live in constant fear.  People who are afraid to go in public, to visit with family, or do normal every day activities they weren't afraid to do in 2018, even though the 2018 flu season was just as bad for deaths as 'rona.  The danger hasn't changed but the messaging has.  It's [never been safer](https://www.pri.org/stories/2014-10-23/world-actually-safer-ever-and-heres-data-prove) [to be a human](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/excellent-beauty/201607/is-the-world-more-dangerous-now-ever), but [overall people have never been more afraid](https://time.com/4158007/american-fear-history/).  The onslought of constant propaganda on this virus has leveraged that trend to the detriment of humanity.\n\nLet me reiterate the point made in the last few paragraphs, since it's one of the core tenants of this post.  The government response to the virus benefits the ultra wealthy and the largest companies, while it hurts the working class and small businesses, closes gyms, libraries, playgrounds, churches, art, denies human contact, music and [will starve millions of people](https://reliefweb.int/report/world/un-warns-impending-famine-millions-danger-starvation), mostly children, due to shutting down the economy. When a person wears a mask because they are afraid of a virus that is killing almost no one, they are showing their support for these policies even if they don't realize it.  It's like wearing a t-shirt of your favorite team or rock band- it shows to the world your support.  Certainly some people have died, and it's terrible tragic for those people and their families, but overall the world isn't experiencing a statistically significant amount of additional deaths.\n\nWhich is why I stated covid was \"killing almost no one\"?  It's not me that is asserting that in a vacuum, that's supported by CDC stats that are captured in a [report from John Hopkins](https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/coronavirus/johns-hopkins-published-then-deleted-study-questioning-us-coronavirus).  That report was removed from the website several days later because it didn't jive with the propaganda being pushed.  However, anyone has the ability to download data from the CDC database and do their own analysis.  I did, and it matched what I saw in that report.  Not only that, the John Hopkins version has been scrubbed from the internet- you can't find it anywhere unless youcan find someone who grabbed a copy and it doesn't come up in searches.  It's been intentially hidden from people.  \n\nAs well, we see people being [afraid to go to the doctor](https://www.wsmv.com/news/health/people-afraid-to-seek-medical-care-because-of-covid-19-fears/article_7e7e6650-e714-11ea-8c97-bf5db4e45ff4.html) due to the fear campaign, even for [heart attacks](https://www.escardio.org/The-ESC/Press-Office/Press-releases/Fear-of-COVID-19-keeping-more-than-half-of-heart-attack-patients-away-from-hospitals) and [cancer](https://www.qpbriefing.com/2020/05/05/ontario-surgeons-fear-cancer-surge-as-people-likely-going-undiagnosed-without-screening/).  Not treating a heart attack or cancer in a timely fashion is going to greatly impact mortality rates in the future.  Lastly on the health front, lockdowns have resulted in incredibly high numbers of shut businesses which greatly increases the number of people living in poverty.  The link between [poor health and poverty](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2528796/) is very well documented.  Poverty [strips years of life from people](https://news.mit.edu/2016/study-rich-poor-huge-mortality-gap-us-0411).  \n\nThe effects on pollution are stark as well.  You can't go to a restaraunt and use a reusable plate and silverware, you get take-away with foam containers and plastic forks.  You can't just use a condiment container- it has to be transfered to a tiny container for you.  Rather than going shopping and picking up goods once a week people are getting deliveries of single items from Amazon every day.  Think of the packaging and the fuel costs of having everything delivered one item at a time, it's tremendous.  My city is [having a hard time keeping up with all the extra trash](https://www.kmov.com/news/influx-of-trash-in-st-louis-city-hard-to-keep-up-with-staffing-shortage/article_14419256-3f54-11eb-9dab-ebfd4a02700c.html).  [Single use face masks](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jun/08/more-masks-than-jellyfish-coronavirus-waste-ends-up-in-ocean) have become a huge trash problem in nature and the ocean, gloves, hand sanitizer bottles all add up.  People can't use reusable bags at the grocers, we have to use single use bags.  Restaraunst are standing up tents and heating them at an additional cost of fuel.  The ability to live a sustainable lifestyle has been impacted.\n\nI've mentioned many of the ways the government approach has had a negative outcome, but there are so many more.  [Drug overdoses are way up this year.](https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-12-overdose-deaths-outpace-covid-san.html)  Depression and [suicides are spiking](https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/11/23/covid-pandemic-rise-suicides/).  More people [died from suicide in Japan in October](https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/28/asia/japan-suicide-women-covid-dst-intl-hnk/index.html) than have died in total from covid and it's hit women the hardest.  [Global poverty](https://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2020/10/07/covid-19-to-add-as-many-as-150-million-extreme-poor-by-2021) has risen for the first time in 20 years.  The more you look the worse it gets.  These are real world examples of harm and suffering being perpetrated based on a fear response to all this propaganda.  \n\nInformation being deleted and / or not allowed on platforms because it doesn't match the government approved message is an increasingly large problem.  It's the very definition of censorship.  Information that deflects from the \"official\" stance isn't allowed on FCC controlled airwaves.  It's deleted from social media.  It's not searchable in Google.  If you share an article from a medical doctor that doesn't support the CDC stance Facebook will delete it and ban your user account.  If you post a video on YouTube about anything health related you get a warning to read about covid at the CDC.  If you post something challenging the offical stance of the CDC or the WHO the video gets deleted and the poster gets a community strike which can lead to a ban.  Sometimes even if you post an article directly from the WHO it gets deleted if it doesn't support the CDC stance, such as the stance of the WHO to [end lockdowns](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-12/world-health-organization-coronavirus-lockdown-advice/12753688).\n\nThat's why I am so comfortable referring to the persistent government and media messaging as propaganda.  Not only does the messaging to be afraid and wear a mask permeate every bit of media, no one is allowed to present any other view point on any major media platform.  The control over information is near total.  To get any sort of information that isn't in line with the CDC you have to go looking for it on alternative platforms.  If you read an article in a medical journal that says the best defence against covid is to strengthen your immune system and get a lot of exercise, then try to search for it later you'll never find it again due to search engine algorithm weighting.  Search results that don't fit the propaganda are being hidden.  If the messaging from the CDC was accurate and helpful they wouldn't have to cram it down our throats and destroy any dissent.  This is a psychological operation.\n\nI am labelling it a psychological operation without anything to support that?  Again, no- a person I know who has been involved in PsyOps for the US military in other countries identified it as such.  It's a playbook PsyOp as run today by our military, only now it's being run by newscasters and social media tycoons.  The constant messaging is working to convince people of \"facts\" that aren't true at all.  If you tell people something enough, it will start to stick.  Well, unless you are blessed with defiant genes like me- the more I hear something the less I think it's true.  Truth speaks for itself, it doesn't have to be beat into someone's head.  The more you try to force something on me the more I supect ill intentions.  It's a fear campaign at the core.\n\nWhen I say **fear campaign ** perpetrated by the media, I mean exactly that.  I tracked my local news for a few weeks and they lead with the worst possible spin every day.  This isn't new, heck, way back in the 80's it was the focus of a [Don Henley song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju_GLKaH4vM).  But with this pandemic it seems particularly eggregious.  If day to day infections are down, they run with the 7 day rolling average of infections if that number is higher.  If the 7 day rolling average of deaths are down, but there are more infections then that gets the headline.  If every running statistic is down, like it was the week after Thanksgiving, they lead with stories from weeks earlier about random people who died.  Remember when all the talking heads and health officials talked about Thanksgiving being a super spreader event?  The week after Thanksgiving was one of the lowest weeks of the fall for infections.  That part doesn't get reported.  Every day you think this is getting worse, when it's not.  It's pushing constant fear.\n\nThis is how it looks in practice.  Let's say we have a week that looks like this:\n\nDay|Infections|Deaths\n-| -| -| \nFriday | 200 | 1\nSaturday | 120 | 2\nSunday | 140 | 2\nMonday | 180 | 1 \nTuesday | 140 | 1\n\nOn Saturday the corona headline would be **\"Deaths Spike! Deaths Double in One Day\"**  \nSunday would read **\"Infection rate up more than 10%\"**\nMonday's headline would show **\"Infection rates up double digits for second day\"**\nTuesday would say **\"A Couple Married for 85 years dies hours apart from deadly coronavirus\"** because all the metrics are down.\n\nNotice that the trend over those 5 days is steadily lower, but every day has people panicked thinking it's constantly getting worse.  They've been doing this for 9 months now!  It has a long term effect on the psyche and morale of the people who watch or read the news.  It impairs our ability to see the good side, to see things improving because we are fed this negativity every day.  It impairs our ability to make rational choices.  Persistent negativity is also damaging to physical health and resilience.  \n\nSo who is behind all this propaganda?  Why would someone want to do that?  Most people can't imagine anyone who would actually do something like that. Luckily, the answer has never been more obvious- it's driven by the institutions controlled by the billionaires of the world.  The elite 1% of the 1% richest in the world.  The people who used to be kings and queens and are know CEO's and oligarchs.  The people who control the UN, the WHO and the World Economic Forum (WEF).  The people who own our politicians by giving them the millions they need to get elected.  They have never been more obvious in their intent.  This particular story in the US starts with George Bush senior and his well known 1990 speach where he spoke of the upcoming [New World Order](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM11Yo6pFyM).  Two years after that, Bush signed onto [Agenda 21](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenda_21) along with many other nations.  Agenda 21 was first made public at the UN Conference on Environment and Development in South America in 1992 and was later renamed to The Commission on Sustainable Development.  And fun fact!- if you search \"Agenda 21\" on Google the only results point to the new name (CSD) or articles talking about how Agenda 21 is just a conspiracy theory, despite it being published in the official minutes at the UN conference and widely available to read.  Even though it's been in existence for two decades, most major news organizations have articles labeling it a conspiracy theory.  Last year Facebook was even banning people for discussing it.  \n\nOver the time, Agenda 21 has been rebranded several times, but the core precepts remain the same.  Today those goals are captured under the \"[Great Reset](https://www.weforum.org/great-reset/)\" section on the World Economic Forum (WEF) website.  I recommend you take some time to read it!  It involves many hours of reading to fully absorb, but some of the highlights are:\nNo one owns anything- things are delivered in a \"just in time\" model for usage, then they are returned to the depot.\nYou don't have property rights or your own home- the space you sleep in is reused when you aren't present.  Every space will be a multi-use space.\nEveryone lives in smart cities where there is no privacy.\nNo one lives in rural areas, which are set aside as nature reserves for use only by the ruling class.\nFood is highly controlled and people are only allowed low protein diets of GMO food.\n\nMost importantly, the WEF is very forthcoming with these goals and are very open about them seeing this pandemic as an opportunity to advance their agenda.  But again, if you read articles about the Great Reset on the BBC or New York Times or CNN or hundreds of other news sources it gets labeled a conspiracy theory.  But if you go to the WEF website I linked above everything is laid out plain to see, with plenty of graphics and videos and world leaders giving speeches.  It's just bizarre how so many media outlets deny the information exists.  It really shows how modern media companies have just become propaganda machines that only parrot messages allowed by governments and billionaires.  It's not surprising, since almost all the news companies in America are owned by just [15 billionaires](https://www.forbes.com/sites/katevinton/2016/06/01/these-15-billionaires-own-americas-news-media-companies/?sh=4c16ed1c660a).\n\nI want to look next at the approach to the shutdowns.  So many of the shutdown actions didn't make any sense if you look at it from a clinical standpoint.  If you want to slow the spread then the best approach is to give people a chance to spread out.  Allow stores to expand their hours which reduces shopper density.  If 1,000 shoppers a day visit the local grocers and they are open 20 hours then you're going to average 50 people an hour.  If you drop that to 10 hours you are doubling the number of people in the store at any given time.  That's exactly what my town did, though- they took the very action to help spread a virus.\n\nIt doesn't stop there, of course.  They also blocked people from dining in many restaraunts which resulted in [widespread unemployment](https://www.kmov.com/news/were-low-hanging-fruit-restaurant-workers-frustrated-after-losing-their-jobs-to-st-louis-county/article_91990694-3fef-11eb-bf63-1791205f7213.html).  The last week I worked downtown it was a ghost town at lunch and it got worse after that with many restaraunts closing.  In fact, most restaraunts effected by closures [will never open again](https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/operations/yelp-61-pandemic-restaurant-closures-will-be-permanent). Demanding restaraunts close takes the number of people who normally eat out and puts them in the grocery store more often- that very grocery store that is now forced to close early due to government mandate.  My grocery store went from being open 24 hours to being forced to close at 8p, as well as having to carry the extra load of people who couldn't go to restaraunts.  Both moves increased the chance the virus would pass.\n\nThere are several ways this is class warfare.  I've already spoken to how this benefits the rich and hurts the middle class, but there's more to it.  Most of the restaraunts that were told they needed to close for two weeks back in the spring are [permanently out of business now](https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/operations/yelp-61-pandemic-restaurant-closures-will-be-permanent).  Those places will be replaced by chains run by mega corporations when they are allowed to reopen.  The government demands have also created a new underclass that is required to wear masks, like service workers.  It's really disconcerting to see everyone who works a service forced to wear a mask, like in a restaraunt or a golf course, while the customers go unmasked.  In a blink these restrictions set up a caste system and it's disgusting.  As well, we have decreed certain workers as \"essential workers\".  Who is essential changes slightly from region to region, but again it's suddenly created a new class of citizen- the non-essential worker.  How does it feel to be called non-essential?  It's divisive and creates categories to seperate people.  When you categorize people you sow division.  On top of that, any person who works to provide for themself and their family is an essential worker and calling them anything but is degrading.  \n\nI've also noticed that many places have closed their bathrooms to the public.  They are literally impeding the ability to wash our hands.  The ice rink I skate at in St Louis County does this- I literally cannot wash my hands before or after a scrimmage or pick up game.  Same goes for the ice cream place around the corner and dozens of other stores I've seen.  That does the opposite of keeping people safe- it's preventing them from engaging in safe hygene.  Instead there is hand sanitizer at the front desk, so everyone can travel to the same spot to smear goo on their hands rather than allow them to use the multiple sinks most places have.  On the topic of hand sanitizer, it's well known that frequent use has resulted in [resistant bacteria](https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2018/08/02/635017716/some-bacteria-are-becoming-more-tolerant-of-hand-sanitizers-study-finds) that are harder to kill through normal means.  It can even create [super bugs](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-hand-gel-sanitiser-superbugs-a9697031.html) It's use should be discouraged, but instead it's become a ritual that is encouraged.  It's yet another unhealthy outcome that puts people at risk.\n\nAll of these measures were forced onto the populace under false pretenses.  The CDC has stated that Covid-19 will be here [for the long haul](https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02278-5), which is completely expected with a new virus.  Any medical professional or person familiar with virulogy would realize that.  However- people were asked to \"Shut down for 2 weeks to slow the spread\", or \"Lockdown now to flatten the curve\".  How many times were we all told that?  Hundreds?  Thousands?  That intent was never geniune.   The pandemic task forces always knew that restrictions wouldn't achieve anything unless they went on in perpetuity, which is the real plan.  However, misleading the public achieved two things- it prevented people from resisting and it helped drain the savings of small businesses who thought they would get to re-open after a few weeks.  \n\nIf a mayor or governor or even the president said we had to accept restrictions for the next 5 years people would have resisted.  If you told a restaraunt owner they couldn't seat people to capacity for 5 years then they could have closed up shop and taken up other employment before they spent all their savings.  By constantly stringing people along, so many small business owners have exhausted any reserves they had, which not only means they go out of business, it means they don't have the capital to start up a new business.  It was a willful act by the powerful to ruin the middle class business owner.  That's class warfare.  It's not about keeping people safe, the US has only 4% of the [world's population and 25% of the covid infections](https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/30/health/us-coronavirus-toll-in-numbers-june-trnd/index.html) and 20% of the deaths.  Either our government's approach is creating more harm or the numbers reported by the [CDC are inflated](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm#Comorbidities) to spread fear.   \n\nWhy do I say 5 years?  I think that is how long it will take people to get fed up enough to take to the streets and end this, because that's the only way this ends.  Once the powerful get more power, they do not willingly or easily give it up.  Either people resist, or we slowly get more and more rights taken away little by little.  Bill Gates recently said that \"If everyone takes the vaccine and sticks to the lockdowns, we could open up the economy in 12-18 months.\".  So **if** everyone gets the vaccine, which we already know won't happen, **and** everyone plays along with another year of lockdowns we may be able to return to normal by the summer of 2022.  That's another year of no weddings, no music, no art, no graduation ceromonies, being constantly afraid you are going to infect an old person and maybe, just maybe they'll let us have our lives back.  That's the highest level of oppression I've ever witnessed in this country.  \n\nOh, but even if you take the vaccine you [have to keep wearing masks and social distance and have lockdowns](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/08/health/covid-vaccine-mask.html)  In fact, if you take the vaccine you can still [spread the virus](https://www.texastribune.org/2020/12/15/coronavirus-texas-border-vaccine/).\n\nBut wait!  Already they've found a [new strain in the UK](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-19-new-strain-uk-already-here-us/)!  Well, that's going to complicate things.  That'll add 6 months on at least.  And a year from now it will be something else, and a year after that something else until we realize we've been living in fear like caged animals for half a decade.  That's the end game of all of this- to push as many societies as close to the goals in the Great Reset as possible.  Lockdowns and restrictions were never about keeping people safe- we've been fed all that through false pretenses.  A crisis was amplified and used to enact goals that have been widely held and clearly documented for almost 30 years.  The approach has been to slowly boil the frog rather than be upfront about mutli-year restrictions with the end goal of destroying the middle class.\n\nIt's not just me seeing this creeping authoritarianism.  The CATO institute rates countries in it's [Human Freedom Index](https://www.cato.org/blog/new-human-freedom-index-us-15-new-zealand-switzerland-freest) and this year the US has dropped two places.  Or read [this report](https://reason.com/2020/12/14/a-new-warning-that-international-pandemic-responses-are-eroding-freedom/) that states \"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dire impact on civic freedoms globally,\"  We are getting authoritarian at a faster rate than the rest of the world.  All countries have to deal with covid, we are doing it in a more heavy handed way than the rest of the world and it's resulting in more virus deaths and all the other harm I've laid out here.  Why do you think that is?  Who does that benefit?  Hopefully you have a better idea after reviewing what I've presented here.\n\nThe billionaires of the world have convinced people through constant propaganda to act against their own self interest by using guilt to convince people if they aren't compliant with all these restrictions they are harming others.  The reality is directly opposite, being compliant with the government response to 'rona is doing exponentially more harm than the virus, and many of the harms will be generational.  \n\nFrom the beginning the media response to the virus smelled to me just like the response to 9-11.  We were told we have to think of our neighbor and accept restrictions to keep people safe.  As we can see in retrospect to 9-11, it was used to launch a stripping of freedoms, create two new permanent authoritarian government agencies and two decades of non-stop war in the middle east that has done nothing but resulted in death of [Americans and other people](https://www.statista.com/chart/20699/estimated-number-of-deaths-in-selected-warzones/) which has exceeded 800,000 humans, as well as a destatbalization of a dozen countries resulting in famine and poverty.  We are no safer today than before 9-11, but we've racked up in trillions in debt, destroyed the environment, accepted intrusions by the TSA and DHS and killed hundreds of thousands of people while making the richest people in the world richer.  The lockdowns and other restrictions and mandates are going to have a similar outcome.\n\nWhat can we do to resist this?  What's a rational approach?  First we need to feed our immune system.  This is the best source I've seen concatenating various studies regarding [vitamin D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha2mLz-Xdpg), if you don't follow any of these other links I strong recommend you absorb this one.  Get sun, get exercise, take zinc and vitamin D, eat healthy.  Stop watching the news, which gives them revenue to profit from their model of fear.  Stop using social media platforms that censor free speach like Facebook and YouTube, as every click, every page view they get gives them money.  Resist contact tracing apps and mask mandates.  Write your legislators.  Participate in demonstrations.  Support the people around you.  Teach your children that human contact is important.  There is a resistance, it's just not being shown on the news or when it is, it's demonized.  \n\nOne of the best things I've read this year states \"Did you ever wonder what you'd do during the Civil Rights Movement, Slavery or the Holocost?  You're doing it now.\".  I used to wonder how Germany could do such terrible things during world war 2, or how tens of millions could be starved in Russia in the years after that- it was propaganda that created division, made people make choices based on fear rather than morals and encouraged people to shout down and even turn in their neighbors and family who dissent.  We are certainly seeing all of those actions in this moment.  This is one of the biggest power grabs by the billionaires of the world and it's up to each of us whether we want to stand by, help them oppress mankind or resist. \n\nYou may have noticed I've used a wide variety of news sources in this article, I've done so purposefully as to remove bias inhernent in any single news source.  I regularly read very few of these news sites, but I recognize many people have faith in them.  I tend to get my news from news concatenators in podcasts- they bring awareness of a topic and I can do my own research to verify.       "body": "The last time Joe Biden worked in the white house he was vice president for Obama and he was put in charge of the gun violence task force.  Since Biden seems to be staffing his cabinet with many of the same people as Obama, I imagine we will see many of the same ideas.  I went back to 2013 and pulled up their gun control agenda from those days, along with my comments.  I imagine we will see a similar push from Biden once he gets settled.  Here is the published agenda as well as my thoughts on each point.\n\n\n\n**1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.**\nThis seems like a good idea.  I'm not sure why it's not already happening.  I'd like to see what is meant by \"relevant\", but providing criminal history at all levels to the background check is a good idea.  Providing a list of names who say things the administration in power doesn't agree with is a bad idea.\n\n**2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.**\nI can certainly see how it will be a difficult path to discern to arrive at this policy.  Balances doctor-patient confidentiality with public safety will be challenging.  Making sure we keep guns out of the hands of the criminally insane is important, but turning over the names of everyone who has a therapist visit would be quite harmful.\n\n**3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.**\nThis is a huge problem.  States are required to report information to the national background check system, and most of them don't as mentioned in previous blogs.  This is a good idea that will help keep guns out of the hands of prohibited people.\n\n**4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.**\nThis is a reasonable idea in general, but our specific Attorney General has shown he has very poor judgment when it comes to firearms, since he authorized the trafficking of guns to Mexican drug cartels that have been used in the murder of US and Mexican citizens.  Reviewing policies is a good thing, but Holder has proved his cannot be trusted with important decisions like this.\n\n**5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.**\nI'm torn on this one, as it contrasts property rights against public safety.  If my gun is stolen, it seems unreasonable that I have to do a background check to get it back.  But proving I'm not a prohibited person in any transfer seems like a reasonable restriction.  I guess it comes down to whether the police that recover a gun are actually the temporary owners of that gun, and it is a transfer, or if that remains my property under their custody. \n\n**6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.**\nUm, duh.  I'm amazed there aren't already helpful guidelines for this.  The ATF creates enough paperwork.  I've paid for FFL holders to do transfer for me before, it's not hard to do.  It is hilarious that one of the steps is \"Publish a letter\". \n\n**7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.**\nEh, whatever.  The NRA and the NSSF already does this.  It can't hurt but will likely be a waste of money.\n\n**8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).**\nThis one seems odd.  Is there a problem with shoddily manufactured gun locks or safes?  All new firearms sold in the US already come with a lock.  I'm not sure what this will do other than throw busy work to a bureaucrat.  \n\n**9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.**\nThis is a good idea.  When guns are used in crimes, it's a good idea to figure out how those guns got into criminal hands.  When the data is collected we can figure out where the holes are and how to improve.\n\n**10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.**\nYes.  Understanding the data is key to forming a quality solution.\n\n**11. Nominate an ATF director.**\nIt's amazing how many years the ATF has existed without a director.  \n\n**12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.**\nThis is a good idea.  I'd like to see this opened up to certain civilians as well.\n\n**13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.**\nYes.  Stop giving perpetrators of gun crimes a slap on the wrist.  Don't use this as an excuse to promote concepts that infringe on liberty, like stop and frisk.\n\n**14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.**\nBecause the CDC has nothing better to do.  It's sad how often the CDC is weaponized for political reasons.\n\n**15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.**\nI'm completely against this.  This administration supports implausible ideas like microstamping and electronic safeties that don't actually work but add significant cost to products.  Increasing the cost of a product by 50% or 100% and reducing the reliability and durability is a bad idea, especially when it won't lead to a reduction in crime.  See also Holder's track record on making poor decisions regarding firearms in point 4.\n\n**16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.**\nThere is no proof this will prevent crime at all, and it is intrusive.   It's not my physicians business to know if I own a firearm, a motorcycle, a hang glider, scuba gear or anything else they personally thing is dangerous. \n\n**17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.**\nHa, another \"write a letter\" step. \n\n**18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.**\nPutting more militarized police in schools isn't fixing any problem.\n\n**19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.**\nThis seems like a reasonable job for the Department of Homeland Security.  Perhaps they can divert some of their staff and funds that arm police departments with military hardware and watch peaceful demonstrations to actually providing material that will increase the security of citizens of this country.\n\n**20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.**\nWow!  Three letters will be written.  That's impressive.  Maybe his next declaration will call out some Facebook posts or tweets that should be made.\n\n**21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.**\nHuh?  What does this have to do with gun control or violence prevention?\n\n**22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.**\nSee point 21.  Seriously, even in unilateral efforts we get pork inserted. \n\n**23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.**\nI can't decide if a \"dialogue\" is going to be more or less effective than releasing a letter.  Only time will tell.\n\nThe good news here is the president didn't seek to bypass congress in the passing of new laws or regulations that restricts the rights of citizens.  That's a good thing.  I also think some of these ideas have merit and can contribute to keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and prohibited people.  I think some of these ideas can be positive steps, others not so much.  Let's hope Biden doesn't overreach by writing executive orders to ban things or invoke another useless assault weapons ban.",

      "body": "After having several discussions with friends I did some research on the effective range of AR-15 rifles using various types of ammunition.  In this post I'm going to discuss the maximum effective range of the most common bullet weight and type, 55gr full metal jacket (FMJ).  As many people know the standard 55gr full metal jacket projectile's primary wounding capability comes from fragmentation.  There is wounding performed by hydrostatic shock as well, and of course the path of the bullet.  If a bullet itself hits a major blood vessel or vital organ it can of course be lethal.  But when a bullet expands or fragments it greatly increases both the wound channel and the potential to damage something vital.  It's a morbid topic, but if you use a firearm for hunting or defense, you want it to be effective, so it's an important discussion.\n\nIf a person chooses 55gr .223 or 5.56 NATO ammo for use in a defensive carbine it's important to fully understand the fragmentation qualities and understand what the maximum distance is at which a bullet fired from your rifle will still possess fragmentation qualities.  This is because it takes a fair bit of velocity to give the bullet enough energy to fragment when it strikes a target.  Most experts suggest the necessary velocity to ensure reliable fragmentation is 2700 fps.  Since I've read that the bullet can fragment down to 2500 fps, although not as explosively as at higher velocities, I'm going to split the difference and choose 2600 FPS as the threshold.  I've chosen this bullet for this discussion because by a large amount it's the most common bullet found in .223 and 5.56 ammo.\n\nBarrel length is correlative to muzzle velocity.  The shorter the barrel, the lower the muzzle velocity.  The shortest barrel seen in 5.56 rifles is 7\", which is pretty stupid honestly.  A large percentage of the powder burns outside of the barrel and the velocity is way down when compared against a standard length carbine.  For purposes of this blog, we'll be starting at a barrel length of 10.5\", a popular length for short barrel rifles used by military, police and civilians.\n\nA M193 (the military standard 55gr 5.56 cartridge) generates a velocity around 2750 fps in a 10.5\" barrel AR-15.  This isn't much higher than the fragmentation velocity.  Since the bullet will be losing speed every moment after it leaves the barrel, we can figure out it's going to drop below the magic velocity threshold around 40 meters.  That's not much of a range at all.  If you are using a 10.5\" rifle for defensive use, you'd likely be better off with a different type of bullet.\n\nAs an aside, I'm using nice round numbers here, if you want to know exact ranges you'll have to know your exact velocity out of your rifle.  It could easily be 50 fps plus or minus the average velocities listed here which will change the range by a meter or ten.\n\nIf we move up to an 11.5\" barrel we pick up a bit more velocity, 2875 fps or so.  It's a pretty nice bump from 10.5\".  It shows how a cartridge and the burn rate of the powder chosen for factory loadings in that cartridge is tuned to a specific barrel length.  So by moving from a 10.5\" to a 11.5\" barrel we extend our fragmentation range out to 70 meters.  This is a more useful range, but still very limited.\n\n12.5\" gets us to 2950 fps.  This brings the range to 85 meters, still very limited.\n\n14.5\" gets us 3050.  This is the barrel length used by the military in the newest version of the M-16 rifle which is commonly called the M4.  The velocity increases are slowing down at this point, most of the powder has burned by the time the bullet exits the barrel.  This takes our effective frag range to 100 meters.  This is becoming more practical for an effective defensive range.\n\n16\", the most common barrel length sold in AR-15 carbines and the shortest length available for general sale, gives us a muzzle velocity of of 3125. Fragmentation range extends out to just over 110 meters, not much longer than the 14.5\" barrel.\n\nThe second most common barrel length for AR-15 rifles is 20\".  The M193 round gets 3250 fps and a range of just over 150 meters.  This gives us a 50% increase in effective range over the 16\" barrel.\n\n24\" gives us 3300 fps, barely any more velocity than than the 20\" barrel.  We've passed the sweet spot for this particular cartridge, where additional barrel length gives us lower velocity increases.  16 to 20 inches is really the ideal barrel length for this cartridge.  A 24\" barrel gives us very little fragmentation distance over a 20\" barrel.\n\nAll of these calculations were done around the military spec M193 5.56 NATO cartridge.  If instead you use .223 Remington ammo offered by Winchester, Remington, PMC or other companies, your velocity could be 100 fps lower than M193, as .223 is loaded to a lower pressure than 5.56 NATO.  If you are using Wolf, Brown Bear or Silver Bear .223 ammo, your velocities could be 150 fps slower.  That can reduce effective fragmentation ranges effectively.  Using steel cased Wolf .223 ammo in a 11.5\" short barrel rifle gives almost no fragmentation capability.\n\nIn no means is this an attempt to talk people out of using 55gr ball ammunition for defense.  It is an ideal cartridge for defensive work, especially in residential areas where light obstacles (like interior walls) will cause it to fragment very quickly and reduce the chance of missed shots striking or hurting unintended targets.  But if it is the ammo you chose to use, you should understand it's capability.  Once you extend past it's fragmentation range, you are likely better off using another ammunition type.  For instance, the 55gr TSX bullet made by Barnes should offer reliable expansion down to 1,800 fps.  This extends the range quite a bit at which it offers good terminal ballistics.  A reasonable person could practice with 55gr FMJ ammo and use the TSX bullet for hunting or defense to extend your effective range.\n\nFortunately, there are scores of options for 5.56 and .223 ammunition, with many bullet types designed for different purposes.  Some bullets are designed for varmints and offer very fast expansion, some for medium game and expand and retain weight and offer deep penetration.
