What AquaSonic creates is scientific research as well as investigative and experimental play with the wet element. (Image: Warner Bros)\n\n\nAn international team of scientists from the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) is investigating mysterious signal spikes emitting from a 6.3-billion-year-old star in the constellation Hercules—95 light years away from Earth. The implications are extraordinary and point to the possibility of a civilization far more advanced than our own.\n\nThe unusual signal was originally detected on May 15, 2015, by the Russian Academy of Science-operated RATAN-600 radio telescope in Zelenchukskaya, Russia, but was kept secret from the international community. Interstellar space reporter Paul Gilster broke the story after the researchers quietly circulated a paper announcing the detection of “a strong signal in the direction of HD164595.”\n\nThe mysterious star’s designation is HD164595, and it’s considered to be sun-like in nature with a nearly identical metallic composition to our own star. So far, a single Neptune-like (but warmer) planet has been discovered in its orbit—HD 164595 b. But as Gilster explained, “There could, of course, be other planets still undetected in this system.”\n\nDecorated Italian SETI researcher and mathematician Claudio Maccone along with Russia’s Nikolai Bursov of the Special Astrophysical Observatory are the principal scientists working on the apparent discovery. (Photo: Wikimedia Commons)\n\n\n“The signal conceivably fits the profile for an intentional transmission from an extraterrestrial source,” said Alan Boyle, author of “The Case for Pluto” who reported the story for Geekwire. “In any case, the blip is interesting enough to merit discussion by those who specialize in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.”\n\nThe signal’s strength indicates that if it in fact came from a isotropic beacon, the power source would have to be built by a Kardashev Type II civilization. (The Kardashev scale is used to determine the progress of a civilization’s technological development by measuring how much energy was used to transmit an interstellar message.) An ‘Isotropic’ beacon means a communication source emitting a signal with equal power in all directions while promoting signal strength throughout travel.\n\nIn his acclaimed work “Transmission of Information by Extraterrestrial Civilizations,” Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev explained that a Type II civilization would be able to harness the energy of their entire host star. But what if the signal was beamed specifically at our solar system? Well, that would require less energy and could indicate the presence of a Kardashev Type I civilization—meaning that it could be a highly technological, contemporary society that harnesses the solar energy emitted by its local star, much like our planet does with solar panels. This particular civilization’s social structure is theorized to be completely globalized and interconnected.\n\n“The signal is provocative enough that the RATAN-600 researchers are calling for permanent monitoring of this target,” said Gilster. And that’s exactly what is transpiring. As of last night, the SETI institute is diverting its Allen Telescope Array in northern California to investigate while their counterparts at METI International (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence) will use Panama’s Boquete Optical Observatory.\n\nThe detection of the mysterious signal and the ensuing investigations will be discussed at the IAA SETI Permanent Committee during the 67th International Astronautical Congress in Guadalajara, Mexico, on September 27—the same day and location where Elon Musk will reveal his plans to colonize Mars. The first show is scheduled for September 2-4 at Denver's Riot Fest And Rodeo, while the second will happen at Riot Fest And Carnival, set for September 16-18 in Chicago.\n\n\"The MISFITS created the horror punk attitude and had a massive influence on modern rock, punk and metal,\" Lombardo told Rolling Stone. \"It was an easy decision for me to join them for these monumental shows. I was honored to be asked, and am very excited to be playing with the band.\"\n\n\"I first met Dave back in 1988 when DANZIG did four shows with SLAYER in the U.S., before the first DANZIG album was released,\" Danzig said. \"Dave is one of the best drummers around, and I can't wait for everyone to see him pounding MISFITS songs live for these special shows.\"\n\nOnly added: \"With the immensity of the two shows we're planning together, the biggest decision we had was who is going to keep time and power this monster machine on drums? Marshmallow Root\n\nThe marshmallow plant has been used to treat sore throats and other conditions since the Middle Ages.\nIts root contains a gelatin-like substance known as mucilage, which coats and lubricates the throat when you swallow it.\nLozenges containing marshmallow root have been tested in animals and found to be effective and nontoxic, even at very high doses (1).\n\nHere is a recipe for a cold marshmallow root infusion to soothe a painful throat:\n\nMarshmallow Root Infusion\n\nIngredients:\n\nCold water.\n1 ounce (28 grams) dried marshmallow root.\n\nDirections:\n\nFill a 1-quart (1-liter) jar with cold water.\n\nPlace the marshmallow root in cheesecloth and tie up in a bundle.\nLower the bundle into the water just until it’s completely submerged in the water.\nPlace the tied end of the bundle over the lip of the jar, place the lid on the jar and screw on the lid.\nInfuse overnight, or for at least eight hours, and then remove the bundle.\nPour desired amount into a glass. A funding campaign was launched by Katon De Pena from classic underground thrash-metal band HIRAX, who raised about $23,000 to support the building of the statue.\n\nMoore told Loudwire that he and the team behind the campaign tried to find an image that typified Lemmy to base the statue on.\n\n\"I know they were searching for that hat-coat combo,\" he said. \"Photographer Robert John had taken so many good pictures of him and I think that was about the time that they were at the Grammys and 'Ace Of Spades' was re-charting. There was really a resurgence for him and you can see that it was a happy time and he looks healthy and good.\n\n\"We just wanted to stay away from portraying him in a way that wouldn't be proper, and he needed to be rocking, a tough-looking dude with a full face and that was the idea.\n\n\"There was initially some debate about would he be with a guitar? Would he be sitting at the bar? Would he have a bottle of booze? There were a lot of different options, and coincidentally, even the photo that Robert took, he's standing there smoking a cigarette. We took that out, more of a liability reason, because someone could break that joker off or get caught on that.\n\n\"We don't need lawsuits or anyone injured or definitely have the statue damaged on top of anything else. But there was a lot of consideration that went into this thing and everyone involved, their number one focus was honoring Lemmy.\"\n\nMoore told Sky News about twenty people worked on the statue and it took around five months to build.\n\n\"I think it looks a lot like him. It's a compelling image,\" he said.\n\n\"I think it will offer some closure. I think Lemmy is finally home.\"\n\nKaton said in January: \"Lemmy was dedicated to us. Now is our chance to say 'thank you.' Travis will create the best Lemmy sculpture on the planet.\"\n\nMOTÖRHEAD manager Todd Singerman told LA Weekly that he never interfered in Moore's design process. \"This is for the fans. Nothing corporate,\" he said. \"Not the label, nothing. This is a fan thing and we tried to stay out of the way.\" He added that there are plans to expand the tribute with a \"Lemmy Lounge,\" which will temporarily live at the Rainbow and possibly become the actual bar inside a separate \"Motörhead Bar & Grille,\" which Singerman said he's working on, along with a major Lemmy tribute concert and a MOTÖRHEAD museum that will house some of Lemmy's musical and military memorabilia.\n\nLemmy passed away at his home in Los Angeles on December 28, 2015, only four days after his 70th birthday.
