      "body": "<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmXgp1WYB39eaDKSsxxj4KrJ9a4pQRT6GC9R3RdGENcKbp/image.png</center>\n\n\nRecently, leading _anti-rationalist_ Dominic Lawson had his [COVID 19 vaccine promotion pamphlet](https://web.archive.org/web/20200713085418/https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-8516001/Dominic-Lawson-win-war-Covid-19-inoculate-Britain-against-crazy-anti-vaxxers.html) published by the Daily Mail with the headline _\"To win the war on Covid-19 we must inoculate Britain against the crazy anti-vaxxers.\"_ Like many _anti-rationalists_ Dominic seems to struggle with complex issues. \n\nCertainly questioning anything they are told is unthinkable. Repeating information is where it's at for the _anti-rationalists_. _Anti-rationalists_ are incapable of independent thought and need to be told what to believe by someone, some body or organisation, they consider to be important. They call these carefully selected important people and groups _\"reliable sources.\"_ \n\nIt isn't entirely clear what constitutes a _reliable source_ for the _anti-rationalist_ but they appear to range from globalist think tanks and appointed world health authority officials, to mainstream media hacks, multinational corporation spokespersons, the right scientists, fact checkers and government representatives. \n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmaQkmARapN5R8cVh4ZMdCJPSi4az9fzV85j3pi5pP3gTv/image.png</center>\n\nFor many _anti-rationalists_ Dominic is one of those reliable sources. However, there is a pecking order and Dominic probably has his own favourite goto's for information, though presumably [Richard Tomlinson and Boris Johnson](https://web.archive.org/web/20160722121037/https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-outed-journalist-mi6-spy-laugh-foreign-secretary-dominic-lawson-a7148481.html) aren't among them. \n\nGiven that virtually nothing he says in his article is plausible, let alone accurate, it is clear that veracity doesn't have much to do with reliability for the _anti-rationalists._ If they can't cherry pick the information they need to confirm their opinions, they just make it up.  \n\n### Accept Everything And Question Nothing\n&nbsp;\nDominic get's off to a flyer:\n\n>\"There is only one sure way to deal with the coronavirus which has plunged the world’s economy into recession and killed (so far) more than half a million people. A vaccine.\"\n\nThe specific novel strain of coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 may cause the associated respiratory syndrome of COVID 19. While Dominic doesn't bother making this distinction, it is important to do so. Otherwise, he could be suggesting that half a million people have been killed by the common cold, which is what most coronavirus strains are. \n\nI'm sure Dominic knows this isn't just semantics. Something which so called [fact checkers](https://in-this-together.com/not-fact-checkers/) , the kind of reliable sources _anti-rationalists_ prefer, have been keen to highlight. When a [2020 study by Pentagon scientists](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264410X19313647?via%3Dihub) of flu vaccinated U.S. military personnel found that _vaccine interference_ increased the subjects risk of contracting coronavirus by 36%, the inaccurately named [FactCheck](https://www.factcheck.org/2020/04/no-evidence-that-flu-shot-increases-risk-of-covid-19/) were quick to point out that this didn't specifically mean SARS-CoV-2. \n\nThey said the vaccine study only showed an increased risk for coronavirus and that this is not the same as SARS-CoV-2. Despite Dominic's slapdash approach, on this occasion, precision was important for the _anti-rationalists_. The study was of service men and women inoculated between 2017 - 2019. This was before SARS-CoV-2 was discovered. This also means the Pentagon team weren't testing for SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility. \n\nSARS-CoV-2 is a coronavirus, so FactCheck's categorical statement that there is _\"no evidence\"_ that the flu vaccine increases the risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 is false. There is _inconclusive_ evidence that this could be the case. FactCheck have got their facts wrong. \n\nEvidence of this potential risk was also found in [the paper by scientists](https://web.archive.org/web/20200718085348/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3404712/) from the University of Hong Kong who discovered almost a five-fold increase in susceptibility to non influenza respiratory viruses, including coronavirus, among flu vaccinated children. _Anti-rationalists_ will be quick to deny the existence of this science because that's what they do whenever it doesn't _\"fit\"_ with their articles of faith. \n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmdN4ExcmuzpkDPe97GHW1PsfFKER3VsWc8FnreAYZdF74/image.png</center>\n\nGiven that we know that COVID 19 is only a significant threat to the older people with comorbidities, and that this is the section of the population most extensively vaccinated with flu vaccines, the correlation and the existing scientific evidence would seem to warrant further investigation. Something the _anti-vaxxers_ at the [British Medical Journal](https://www.bmj.com/content/368/bmj.m810/rr-0) are willing to contemplate. \n\nHowever, rather than call for urgent research to establish if vaccine interference from the flu shot could increase SARS-CoV-2 risks, Facebook's _anti-rationalist_ [fact checking partners](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/182222309230722) preferred instead to deny everything and suggest that _vaccine interference_ isn't a thing. A quick search of Gargoyle Scholar [reveals hundreds of papers](https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=vaccine+interference&btnG=) and scientific articles discussing vaccine interference. Even the most cursory independent research is not something the _anti-rationalists_ like to do. \n\nA virus has very little to say about fiscal or monetary policy. However, government's do. Dominic's belief that a virus has caused global economic collapse is very silly. Of course it hasn't, the political response to claims about a virus has. \n\nThus far [this virus has supposedly affected](https://web.archive.org/web/20200714115057/https://covid19.who.int/) about 0.15% of the global population and allegedly killed 0.007%. Though it seems, in the UK at least, there is reasonable doubt about the figures. Oxford University [Centre for Evidence Based Medicine](https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/why-no-one-can-ever-recover-from-covid-19-in-england-a-statistical-anomaly/) (CEBM) reports that one of the main sources of mortality statistics in the UK, Public health England (PHE), have considerably overestimated deaths from COVID 19. \n\nAccording to the World Health Organisation, if we accept the figures they report, COVID 19 is slightly less dangerous than a bad, though relatively common, [seasonal influenza](https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/14-12-2017-up-to-650-000-people-die-of-respiratory-diseases-linked-to-seasonal-flu-each-year). Quite why COVID 19 necessitates plunging _\"the world's economy into recession,\"_ while flu doesn't, is difficult to say. Still, Dominic thinks this all makes perfect sense, so that should be more than enough for his _anti-rationalist_ followers. \n\nI say _\"allegedly killed\"_ because there is very little evidence that these people died _\"of\"_ COVID 19. The vast majority of people who sadly died _\"with\"_ COVID 19 were older people approaching, or already receiving, end of life care. No one, including Dominic, knows how many of the people who died _with_ COVID 19 died _of_ COVID 19. Nor do we have much hope of ever finding out because the [death registration process](https://in-this-together.com/covid-19-is-a-statistical-nonsense/) for COVID 19 produces a new from of mortality statistic which is almost perfectly useless. \n\nThis makes no difference to the _anti-rationalists_ and they are willing to report that the virus has killed _\"more than half a million people\"_ because that is what they have been told to think by their _reliable sources_. It is almost certainly a wildly inaccurate claim, but that's no reason not to demand everyone else unquestioningly believe it in the myopic world of the _anti-rationalists_.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27OmxHr6Zm0\n\n&nbsp;\n### No Fault, No Liability, No Responsibility, No Problem\n&nbsp;\nAnd so we come to the central theme of Dominic's fantastical rant. The undoubted wonder of the COVID 19 vaccine, that doesn't exist yet, and why anyone who has any reservations is a lunatic. For _anti-rationalists_ any questioning of their faith is evidence of the _\"perversity of human psychology.\"_ The crazy _anti-vaxxers,_ who, for example, urge use of the precautionary principle before we [irrevocably alter the human genome](https://www.nature.com/articles/nrd.2017.243), are all mad as far as Dominic and his _anti-rationalist_ chums are concerned. Dominic enthuses:\n\n>\"The global race to develop one_ [a COVID 19 vaccine] _has been extraordinary in its scale and speed. As a result, it is thought possible that a vaccine might be approved as safe for general use as early as this winter.\"\n\nThe oxymoron at the heart of this claim eludes _anti-rationalists_ like Dominic. Vaccines usually take [between 10 to 15 years](https://inews.co.uk/news/science/coronavirus-vaccine-uk-latest-oxford-race-scientists-august-covid-19-trials-497704) to develop and trial. Yet Oxford University, and their collaborators Astrazeneca, are among the numerous public private partnerships around the world to have already injected experimental COVID 19 vaccines into thousands of human beings. \n\nThe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) are the largest single contributor to the World Health Organisation (WHO). They funded nearly every aspect of both the COVID 19 pandemic [preparedness exercises](https://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/event201/about) and the planned response. Recently Bill Gates spoke about [the indemnity vaccine manufacturers will need](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjgbMib36do) in order to avoid being sued for the harm their COVID 19 vaccine will probably cause. He Said:\n\n>\"The efficacy of vaccines in older people is always a huge challenge. It turns out the flu vaccine isn't that effective in older people.......Here, we clearly need a vaccine that works in the upper age range.....If we have one in 10,000 side effects, that's way more, you know, 700,000 people who will suffer from that.......So that decisions of OK let's go ahead and give this vaccine to the entire world, governments will need to be involved because there will be some risk and indemnification needed.\"\n\nThis is standard procedure for [vaccines and vaccine manufacturers](https://in-this-together.com/vaccines-part-3/). The various Vaccine Injury Compensation Programmes (VICP's) operating around the world, are overseen by the BMGF owned WHO via their [Global Vaccine Safety](https://www.who.int/vaccine_safety/committee/topics/pharmacovigilance/Dec_2018_VICPs/en/) initiative. The WHO are keen to stress the _“no fault”_ element of the various VICP's. \n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQme1oCJqQhYrWGTYapBRnC8mXPRXPa8LpChkVzzFyQpjYK/image.png</center>\n\nBefore anyone can receive compensation for the proven harm a vaccine caused them or their loved ones, they first have to agree that this is no ones fault. The vaccine manufacturers are not liable and the cost of the harm they cause is picked up by the tax payer. \n\nAs of November 2019 the U.S. NVICP alone had [paid out $4.2 billion](https://www.hrsa.gov/sites/default/files/hrsa/vaccine-compensation/data/data-statistics-november-2019.pdf) in compensation for people injured or killed by vaccines. In the UK the [Vaccine Damage Fund](https://www.gov.uk/vaccine-damage-payment) (VDF), with a ceiling payout of just £120,000, has cost tax payers [just over £74](https://fullfact.org/online/vaccine-damage-fund/) million in compensation. \n\nThis _no fault_ legal technicality allows the the _anti-rationalists_ to claim that there is no evidence, despite the proven deaths and disabilities caused, of any harm from vaccines. A ridiculous legalese argument which is difficult to counter due to the depth of the stupidity it is based upon. \n\nThis fear of liability begs the question why the world's most powerful health authority, the software salesman Bill Gates, wants to indemnify his minions against being sued. Could it be because his own estimate for the potential harm caused by the vaccine seemingly exceeds the risk from the disease he wants to vaccinate the world against? \n\nBill's vaccine hesitancy may be well founded. Previous attempts to create SARS related vaccines have been [a total disaster](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22536382/). \n\nThis explains why, despite decades of trying, science has failed to engineer a vaccine for SARS strain coronavirus. Earlier efforts did stimulate the hoped for antibody and protein reactions but also increased the subjects immunopathological response to the disease, [instigating cytokine storms](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32283152/) which killed the tested ferrets and mice far more effectively than the virus alone. The researchers noted:\n\n>\"Caution in proceeding to application of a SARS-CoV vaccine in humans is indicated.\"\n\nThankfully, initial animal trials of Atrazeneca and Oxford University's ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine (renamed AZD1222 SARS-CoV-2) didn't immediately kill the mice and [6 macaque monkeys](https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.13.093195v1) they tested it on. Following this extensive non peer reviewed study, which the researchers called _\"a rapid yet thorough investigation,\"_ the team decided to inject [more than 10,000 people](https://covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/phase-iiiii-trial-explained) with their experimental vaccine. \n\nPeople really volunteered for this. A tiny bit of independent research would put huge doubt in your mind before ever agreeing to be experimented upon with any alleged SARS vaccine. _Anti-rationalism_ is a high risk faith because the first rule of _anti-rationalism_ is do no research. \n\nMeanwhile no one, anywhere, has reasonably explained how an R&D, trial and safety testing process, that usually takes decades, can suddenly be safely completed in a few months. _Anti-rationalists_, who probably correctly assume the experimental substance will be approved as safe no matter what, consider anyone who asks how this is possible to be an idiot. \n\nIt is safe because the people who want to make billions by selling it, say it is safe. They have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain so why wouldn't they? If you wonder if they actually constitute a _reliable source_ you are clearly deluded. Or, as Dominic puts it, have fallen for _\"an increasingly popular form of conspiracy theory.\"_  \n\n\n&nbsp;\n### The Highest Scientific Standards\n&nbsp;\nTo hammer home just how far off the reservation the _anti-rationalists_ have strayed, their leading light Dominic then completely destroys the whole purpose of his own diatribe. While meandering aimlessly through some strawman argument, weirdly alleging that to question any aspect of any vaccine is to unquestioningly believe in homeopathy, he writes:\n\n>\"This hits the anti-vax nail on the head. Its campaigning is all about the way people say they 'feel’, far removed from the complex and even intimidating world of scientific and medical research. Furthermore, the advance of genuine medical knowledge is a painstaking process, involving exhaustive double-blind’ clinical trials. It can be hard.......for such conscientious empiricism to win out over raw emotional certainty masquerading as knowledge.\"\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmZiaX3V9pFAaSXC71GQhDgXB8pofCzkwJkb9g8PP3RseP/image.png</center>\n\nThis hits the _anti-rationalist_ nail on the head. They genuinely believe that the scientific method is the listing of scientific theories from official _\"reliable sources.\"_ They have completely lost sight, or simply don't understand, that the core tenet of all science is, and always has been, doubt. \n\nMoreover they assume that the considerable [volume of science](https://in-this-together.com/vaccines-part-2/) that questions vaccine safety and efficacy doesn't exist. Therefore, in the goldfish bowl of _anti-rationalism_, to question the science funded by pharmaceutical corporations, often by citing science that isn't, is _\"crazy\"_ and based upon nothing but _feelings_. \n\nOf course _anti-rationalists_ themselves, often cite feelings to back up their arguments against the people they wrongly label _anti-vaxxers_. Dominic tells us about the _\"heart-breaking detail\"_ of Roald Dahl's loss of his daughter Olivia. _Anti-rationalist_ appeals to emotion are fine because they support their opinion. \n\nThe people _anti-rationalists_ label as _anti-vaxxers_ generally do not claim that all vaccines are either useless or dangerous. They acknowledge that vaccines can be, and have been, a useful component of effective public health policy. They point out that [not all vaccines are equal](https://in-this-together.com/vaccines-part-4/), that some have caused harm and that this harm needs to be carefully considered. \n\nBecause _anti-rationalism_ is based upon faith and belief, rather than empirical evidence, its acolytes are often forced fall back on the popular falsehoods they have been spoon fed. One such is the mythology surrounding the 1998 study which Andrew Wakefield participated in. Dominic's version goes like this:\n\n>\"The British (ex) doctor Andrew Wakefield, whose fraudulent 1998 study for the medical magazine The Lancet, claiming that autism in children was caused by the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.....\"\n\nThe only thing Dominic has got right is Dr. Wakefield name and that he was struck off. If he [read the study](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0140673697110960), which presumably he hasn't, he would know that this was the finding:\n\n>\"We did not prove an association between measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine and the syndrome described........Published evidence is inadequate to show whether there is.......a link with measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine.\"\n\nThat [Dr. Walker-Smith's study](https://in-this-together.com/wakefield/) did not say there was a proven link between MMR and autism; that no one questioned the scientific efficacy or conduct of the researchers for more than a decade; that an independent scientific review of Dr Wakefields contribution found no reason even to suspect scientific fraud, nor any misconduct; that it was only a witch-hunt by a lone alleged investigative journalist which caused the furore; that he worked for a GlaxoSmithKline board member at the time and that the High Court then overturned the blatantly corrupt decision of the the General Medical Council, who stripped Dr Wakefield and others of their licenses, matters not to the _anti-rationalists_. \n\nI suspect Dominic knows that confidence in the MMR jab was already waning, prior to publication of the study in the Lancet. This was due to the 1992 withdrawal of the previous MMR vaccine Pluserix after it was found to [cause aseptic meningitis](https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/165/6/704/63700). Though, like every other _anti-rationalists_, who bleats on about the stories they have made up about Dr. Andrew Wakefield, Dominic is careful not to report this fact. \n\nSo it comes as no surprise that, while venerating the _\"double-blind (placebo) clinical trial,\"_  _anti-rationalists_ like Dominic neglect to mention that their are no Randomised Clinical Trials (RCT's) of the vaccine schedule. No one has any idea what the cumulative health benefit or costs are for injecting people with a combination of substances. _Anti-rationalists_ become incandescent with clueless rage whenever anyone raises this concern, because vaccines _save lives_ and have _eradicated disease_. \n\nBlind placebo trials of vaccine schedules are impossible because not to offer vaccines to anyone is to condemn them to certain death. For example, a study found that Danish infants who received the MMR vaccine were not only protected against measles, mumps and rubella but all cause mortality from other _non specific_ diseases also decreased for the vaccinated children. \n\nHowever, they also found increased mortality among vaccinated groups compared to unvaccinated groups. Studies showed that children who received the DTP vaccine were more than twice as likely to die from some other diseases than unvaccinated children; the H1N1 vaccine was found to increase all cause mortality among girls and the attenuated Malaria vaccine more than doubled female all cause child mortality in West Africa.\n\nThe research scientists noted the lack of research studying the combination and order of vaccine schedules. Frankly, I couldn't care less what they think because they are both fantastic tennis players but not independent research scientists.  \n\n\n&nbsp;\n### The Authoritarian Certainty of Anti-Rationalist Scientism\n&nbsp;\nFor the _anti-rationalist_ a restricted, officially approved, tranche of medical science has transcended into the puritanical certainty of _\"scientism.\"_ All that is required is an announcement, from their priests and priestesses in white coats, for the _anti-rationalist_ to obey without hesitation. \n\nThis mindless obedience is damned useful if you are a government that wants to control the behaviour of your population. All the government needs to do is say all their decisions are _\"led by the science\"_ and the _anti-rationalists_ will throw themselves on the bandwagon quicker than the State can say _\"for the general good.\"_\n\nThis technique is predicated upon the _anti-rationalist_ aversion to ever reading any of the _\"wrong science.\"_ Or any of the right science for that matter. The wrong science is the science that doesn't agree with the predetermined political, social or economic agenda. Providing the mainstream media only report the _\"right science,\"_ and tell the _anti-rationalists_ that all the other science, which disproves or question their faith, is _\"crazy,\"_ the authoritarians are good to go. More importantly, anyone who questions their mythical, future ambrosia must be attacked for being a crazy _anti-vaxxer_. \n\nIn keeping with the faith over reason approach, the fact that _anti-vaxxers_ don't really exist fits neatly with their deification of the fictional elixir they imagine to be their only hope. Once the vaccine is ready, a truly independent health body with absolutely no financial ties to any pharmaceutical corporation, no government backing nor government contracts, should undertake an independent scientific evaluation of the vaccine. They could be given temporary authority to select a random sample of the vaccine, from batches they select without warning, and test it's safety and efficacy in a large cohort, double blind, placebo randomised control trial. \n\nThat large cohort will be drawn from all member of parliament, the U.S. congress and the EU Commission, all policy makers and lobbyists who advocate _\"anti-vaxxer\"_ censorship, all boards of pharmaceutical corporations, all BMGF members, all GAVI members, and all World Health Organisation bureaucrats. Once the vaccine injury rate has been independently assessed another, separate, independent panel, again with no links to any pharmaceutical corporations, government or policy makers, will then decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. \n\nOnly following approval via this process, will the vaccine be offered to the people. There will be no suggestion or demand for compulsory vaccination because that would contravene Article 6 of the [United Nations Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights](http://portal.unesco.org/en/ev.php-URL_ID=31058&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html) which states:\n\n>\"Any preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic medical intervention is only to be carried out with the prior, free and informed consent of the person concerned, based on adequate information. The consent should, where appropriate, be express and may be withdrawn by the person concerned at any time and for any reason without disadvantage or prejudice.\"\n\nGiven how enthusiastic Dominic and other _anti-rationalists_ are about the COVID 19 vaccine, and how concerned they are about uptake, who among them could object to this? \n\nHowever, if they mandate that we must take their vaccine, one developed, trialled and deemed safe by the people who profit from it; if they refuse to acknowledge the appalling conflict of interest in the _scientism_ they worship; if they won't listen to legitimate scientific concerns and deny all opportunities for rational debate and independent research; if they censor scientific evidence, and persist with their strawman arguments and false appeals to faux authority; if they continue to deploy the meaningless labels, they have created, to marginalise anyone who dares criticise their vaccine cult, then we must inoculate ourselves against the crazy _anti-rationalists_. \n\nIt's easy, we just ignore these zealots. While I don't agree with their definition of the term, there's not much point in me denying it. It is applied to me, and millions like me, whether we like it or not.\n\nFor those who deem _conspiracy theorists_ to be some sort of threat to society, we are the social and political malcontents who lack reason and hate our democratic _way of life_. We are trolls, bots and disinformation agents on social media, probably employed by the Russians, the Chinese or Iranians.\n\nWe are supposedly hellbent on sewing the seeds of discontent and can be found protesting against every government policy and decision. Alternatively, we are arrogant fools, both anti-science and evidence averse, who trot out crazy theories based upon little knowledge and no evidence. Conspiracy theorists are both imbeciles, who don't have any proof to back up anything they say, while simultaneously being dangerous subversives who threaten to destabilise democracy and foment chaos.\n\nWhich is it? It can't be both. Unless society is so fragile it cannot withstand the opinions of idiots.\n\nSo where does the idea that fools present a threat to _\"our way of life,\"_ come from? What is it that the conspiracy theorists say that is so dangerous? Why do their opinions seemingly need to be censored? What are governments so worried about?\n\n### What is a Conspiracy Theory?\n\nSome definitions are required here. From the Cambridge online English dictionary we have:\n\n*   **Misinformation**: _[noun] wrong information, or the fact that people are misinformed._\n*   **Disinformation**: _[noun] false information spread in order to deceive people._\n*   **Fake News**: _[noun] false stories that appear to be news, spread on the internet or using other means, usually created to influence political views or as a joke._\n*   **Conspiracy**: _[noun'] the activity of secretly planning with other people to do something bad or illegal._\n*   **Theory**: _[noun] a formal statement of the rules on which a subject of study is based or of ideas that are suggested to explain a fact or event._\n*   **Conspiracy Theory**: _[noun] a belief that an event or situation is the result of a secret plan made by powerful people_\n\nIt is notable that Cambridge University Press have introduced the concept of_\"secret\"_ into their definition. By describing something as _secret_ you are suggesting that it is impossible to know what it is. This added notion of secrecy is not commonly found in other dictionaries.\n\nNor is it present in the legal definition of conspiracy. [Blacks Law Dictionary](https://thelawdictionary.org/conspiracy/) defines _conspiracy_ as:\n\n**Conspiracy**: _In criminal law. A combination or confederacy between two or more persons formed for the purpose of committing, by their joint efforts, some unlawful or criminal act._\n\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmf3GPgBEKMVtoDqwnYkhnNCh9ApsCYg6NLEBPkgFxbF4w/image.png</center>\n\n\nObviously conspirators would like to keep their plans hidden. But that doesn't mean they always remain so. If all conspiracies were _\"secrets\"_ nobody would ever discover any of them. Known conspiracies, such as [Operation Gladio](https://in-this-together.com/operation-gladio-false-flag-evidence/), Iran Contra, the Lavon Affair, the 2001 anthrax letter hoax and so on, would not have been exposed had people not highlighted the evidence which proved their existence.\n\nThe notion of the _\"secret conspiracy\"_ is not one most people called _conspiracy theorists_ would recognise. Often the whole point of our argument is that the conspiracies can be quite plainly evidenced. Most of that evidence is in the public domain and freely available.\n\nMore often conspiracy theorists are concerned with the denial or obfuscation of the evidence. It is not that the evidence doesn't exist, rather that it either isn't reported at all or is hidden by labelling those who do report it _conspiracy theorists_.\n\nWe can define _\"conspiracy theory\"_ simply to mean: _the reporting of evidence_ _indicating a plan between two or more people to commit an illegal or nefarious act._\n\nWe can add that a conspiracy theory is an opinion or an argument. The merit of which is solely defined by the strength or weakness of the evidence.\n\nHowever, if you read Wikipedia [a very different definition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theory#Etymology_and_definition) is suggested. Suddenly _conspiracy theory_ means an attempt to ignore other _more plausible_ explanations. It is a theory based upon _prejudice or insufficient evidence_, it _resists falsification_ and suffers from _circular reasoning_. It has left the realms of logical deduction and become _a matter of faith_.\n\nThis rationale is some distance away from the dictionary and legal definitions. It relies heavily upon opinion and is highly subjective. It is a pejorative definition which claims to be based in science, though the scientific evidence is [feeble to non existent](https://in-this-together.com/the-flawed-psychology-of-conspiracy-theory/).\n\nThis depiction of the _delusional conspiracy theorist_, as described by Wikipedia, is the popularly accepted meaning. Perhaps we can agree, the narrative we are given about alleged _conspiracy theorists_ broadly runs like this:\n\n>\"Conspiracy theorists forward arguments that are unfounded. These are based upon limited knowledge and lack substantiating evidence. Most conspiracy theorists are simply wrong and unwittingly spread misinformation. However, prominent conspiracy theorists spread disinformation and have used their large followings on the Internet to create a dangerous phenomenon called 'fake news.' Many of those with the largest followings are agents for foreign powers. They use a global network of trolls and bots to advance their dangerous political agenda. This is designed to undermine our democratic way of life and valued political institutions. Therefore all conspiracy theory is anti democratic and must be stopped.\"\n\nIt is difficult to understand how democracies, which supposedly value freedom of thought, speech and expression, can be threatened by diversity of opinion. Yet it appears many people are willing to ignore this contradiction and support government attempts to censor information and silence the voices of those it labels _conspiracy theorist_. Which is genuinely anti-democratic.\n\nConsequently it has become relatively straightforward for politicians and the media to refute evidence and undermine arguments. Some are more plausible than others. However, by calling everyone who challenges accepted norms a _\"conspiracy theorist\"_ it is possible to avoid addressing the evidence some offer by exploiting guilt by association.\n\nFor example, many people labelled as _conspiracy theorists,_ myself included, believe even the most senior elected politicians are relatively low down the pecking order when it comes to decision making. We suggest powerful global corporations, globalist think tanks and international financial institutions often have far more control over policy development than politicians. We can cite [academic research](https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/perspectives-on-politics/article/testing-theories-of-american-politics-elites-interest-groups-and-average-citizens/62327F513959D0A304D4893B382B992B) to back up this identification of _\"Biased Pluralism.\"_\n\nWe do not believe the Earth is flat or the Queen is a lizard. However, because we believe the former, politicians, mainstream academia and the media insist that we must also believe the latter.\n\nPsychology is often cited as evidence to prove _conspiracy theorists_ are deranged, or at least emotionally disturbed in some way. Having looked at some of this claimed science I found it to be rather [silly and anti-scientific](https://in-this-together.com/the-flawed-psychology-of-conspiracy-theory/). But that is just my opinion.\n\nHowever, unlike many of the psychologists who earn a living by writing junk science, I do not think they should be censored nor stopped from expressing their unscientific opinions. However, governments across the world are seemingly desperate to exploit the psychologist's _'work'_ to justify the silencing of the _conspiracy theorists_.\n\nThis desire to silence people who ask the wrong questions, by labelling all as _conspiracy theorists_, has been a common theme from our elected political leaders during the first two decades of the 21st century. But where did this idea come from?\n\n<center>https://3speak.online/watch?v=oyddodat/mzwfbqku</center>\n\n### The History of the Conspiracy Theorist Label\n\n_Conspiracy theory_ is nothing new. Nearly every single significant world event had at least one contemporary _conspiracy theory_ attached to it. These alternative interpretations of events, which lie outside the accepted or _official_ narratives, are found throughout history.\n\nIn 117 CE, the Roman Emperor Trajan died only two days after adopting his successor Hadrian. All his symptoms indicated a stroke brought on by cardio vascular disease.\n\nYet by the 4th century, in the questionable historical text [Historia Augusta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historia_Augusta), a number of _conspiracy theories_ surrounding Trajan's death had emerged. These included claims that Trajan had been poisoned by Hadrian, the praetorian prefect Attianus and Trajan’s wife, Plotina.\n\nWhile we would call this a _conspiracy theory_ today, the term was not commonly used until the late 1960's. The earliest written reference to something approaching the modern concept of _conspiracy theory_ appeared in the 1870's in the [Journal of Mental Science vol 16](https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=VsRMAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA277&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=3#v=onepage&q=Sankey&f=false).\n\n>“The theory of Dr Sankey as to the manner in which these injuries to the chest occurred in asylums deserved our careful attention. It was at least more plausible that the conspiracy theory of Mr Charles Beade”\n\nThis is the first time we see an association made between \"_conspiracy theory\"_ and implausibility. Throughout most of the 19<sup>th</sup> and 20<sup>th</sup> century, if used at all, it usually denoted little more than a rationale to expose a criminal plot or malevolent act by a group.\n\nAfter the Second World War colloquial use of _“__conspiracy theory”_ was rare. However, academics were beginning to lay the foundations for the interpretation which has produced the label we are familiar with today.\n\nThe burgeoning idea was that the large numbers of people who questioned official accounts of events, or orthodox historical interpretations, were all delusional to some degree. Questioning authority, and certainly alleging that authority was responsible for criminal acts, was deemed to be an aberration of the mind.\n\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmYQcxK2PUGJsvJTPsRAXKE6BbpJpJEbbbd2sQwyczPYUp/image.png</center>\n\n\nIn 1945 The philosopher Karl Popper alluded to this in his political work _\"The Open Society and Its Enemies.\"_ Popper was essentially criticising [historicism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historicism). He stated that historical events were vulnerable to misinterpretation by those who were predisposed to see a conspiracy behind them.\n\nHe argued this was because historians suffered from _cognitive dissonance_ (the uncomfortable psychological sensation of holding two opposing views simultaneously.) They could not accept that tumultuous events could just happen through the combination of error and unrelated circumstances.\n\nIn Popper’s view, these historians were too quick to reject the possibility of random, chaotic events influencing history, preferring unsubstantiated conspiratorial explanations. Usually because they made better stories, thereby garnering more attention for their work.\n\nPopper identified what he called the [_conspiracy theory of society_](https://www.politicsforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145211). This reflected Popper's belief that social sciences should concern themselves with the study of the _unintended_ consequences of _intentional_ human behaviour. Speaking of the conspiracy theory perspective, he wrote:\n\n>\"It is the view that an explanation of a social phenomenon consists in the discovery of the men or groups who are interested in the occurrence of this phenomenon (sometimes it is a hidden interest which has first to be revealed), and who have planned and conspired to bring it about.\"\n\nPopper also believed that increasing secularism had led people to ascribe power to secretive groups rather than the gods:\n\n>\"The gods are abandoned. But their place is filled by powerful men or groups – sinister pressure groups whose wickedness is responsible for all the evils we suffer from – such as the Learned Elders of Zion, or the monopolists, or the capitalists, or the imperialists.\"\n\nPopper's theory illustrates the fundamental difference between those labelled _conspiracy theorists_ and those who, on the whole, defend the official narrative and the establishment. For conspiracy theorists the evidence shows that powerful forces have frequently conspired to shape events, control the flow of information and manipulate society. The deliberate engineering of society, suggested by the _conspiracy theorists_, is rejected by their opponents and critics.\n\nFor them the conspiratorial view has some minor, limited merit, but the suggested scale and prevalence of these plots is grossly exaggerated. They see nearly all world events as the result of the unintentional collision between disparate forces and the random influence of fate.\n\nIn general, they consider the powerful incapable of malice. Where disastrous national and global events have clearly been caused by the decisions of governments, influential groups and immensely wealthy individuals, these are invariably seen as mistakes.\n\nAny suggestion that the power hierarchy's destructive decisions may have achieved their intended objectives receives blanket rejection. Even asking the question is considered _\"unthinkable.\"_\n\nFor many people called _conspiracy theorists_ this is a hopelessly naive world view. History is full of examples of the powerful [using their influence to further their own interests](https://in-this-together.com/balkanisation-the-failed-state-model-of-corporate-profit-generation/) at others expense. Often costing people their lives.\n\nFor their opponents, like Popper, to reject this possibility outright, demonstrates their _cognitive dissonance._ They seem unable even to contemplate the possibility that the political and economic power structures they _believe_ _in_ could ever deliberately harm anyone. They have _faith_ in authority and it is not shared by people they label _conspiracy theorists_.\n\nFollowing the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963 alternative explanations proliferated, not least of all due to the apparent implausibility of the official account. Many U.S. citizens were concerned that elements within their own government had effectively staged a coup. Others, such as the prominent American historian Richard Hoftsadter, were more concerned that people doubted their government.\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmXJhav9wq6Lh92ywGTPSbVBCb8pXeiPvoHoSVTLzn7LuQ/image.png</center>\n\n\nBuilding on the work of Popper, partly as a critique of McCarthyism but also in response to the Republican nomination loss of Nelson A. Rockefeller, American historian Richard Hofstadter suggested that people’s inability to believe what they are told by government was not based upon their grasp of the evidence. Rather it was rooted in psychological need.\n\nHe claimed much of this stemmed from their lack of education (knowledge), political disenfranchisement and an unjustified sense of self importance. He also suggested these dangerous opinions threatened to pollute the body politic.\n\nLike Popper, Hofstadter did not identify _conspiracy theorists_ directly. But he did [formulate the narrative](https://harpers.org/archive/1964/11/the-paranoid-style-in-american-politics/) underpinning the modern, widely accepted, definition. He wrote:\n\n>“I call it the paranoid style simply because no other word adequately evokes the sense of heated exaggeration, suspiciousness, and conspiratorial fantasy that I have in mind...It is the use of paranoid modes of expression by more or less normal people that makes the phenomenon significant.....Of course, there are highbrow, lowbrow, and middlebrow paranoids, as there are likely to be in any political tendency. But respectable paranoid literature not only starts from certain moral commitments that can indeed be justified but also carefully and all but obsessively accumulates “evidence.”....he can accumulate evidence in order to protect his cherished convictions.\"\n\nGoing to great lengths to focus on the _\"paranoid's\"_ tendency to highlight the evidence, as if that were a failing, like most critics of so called _conspiracy theorists,_ Hofstadter chose neither to address nor even mention what that evidence was. He merely asserted that it was unbelievable. The reader just had to take his word for it.\n\nThe [Warren Commission Report](https://www.archives.gov/research/jfk/warren-commission-report) into the JFK assassination drew considerable criticism. The finding that Oswald acted alone contradicted numerous eye witness accounts, film, autopsy and ballistic evidence. Four of the seven commissioners harshly criticised the report issued in their name. Widely seen as quite ridiculous, in the absence of any sensible official account of the assassination, numerous explanatory theories inevitably sprang up.\n\nIn response to the mounting criticism, in 1967 the C.I.A sent an internal dispatch to all field offices called [Document 1035-960: Concerning Criticism of the Warren Report](http://www.jfklancer.com/CIA.html). Revealed by a New York Times Freedom of Information Request in 1976, the dispatch is the first written record we have of the combination of Popper's _\"conspiracy theory of society\"_ with Hofstadter's \"_paranoid style\"_ militant. It defined the modern concept of the _conspiracy theorist_.\n\nThe document states:\n\n>\"Conspiracy theories have frequently thrown suspicion on our organization, for example by falsely alleging that Lee Harvey Oswald worked for us. The aim of this dispatch is to provide material countering and discrediting the claims of the conspiracy theorists.\"\n\nIt can be considered as the origin of the _weaponised term_ \"conspiracy theory.\" It recommends a set of techniques to be used to discredit all critics of the Warren Commission Report. Once you are familiar with them, it is obvious that these strategies are commonly deployed today to dismiss all who question official statements as _\"conspiracy theorists.\"_ We can paraphrase these as follows:\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmPMmQN2E81hh2txgWgqcNnpgEscYKiaY4ee8JDGtoQwmq/image.png</center>\n\n\n*   1\\. Deny any new evidence offered and cite only official reports stating 'no new evidence has emerged.'\n*   2\\. Dismiss contradictory eyewitness statements and focus upon the existing, primary, official evidence such as ballistics, autopsy, and photographic evidence.\n*   3\\. Do not initiate any discussion of the evidence and suggest that large scale conspiracies are impossible to cover up in an open and free democracy.\n*   4\\. Accuse the conspiracy theorists of having an intellectual superiority complex.\n*   5\\. Suggest that theorists refuse to acknowledge their own errors.\n*   6\\. Refute any suggestion of witness assassinations by pointing out they were all deaths by natural causes.\n*   7\\. Question the quality of conspiracy research and point out that official sources are better.\n\nThe report recommended making good use of _\"friendly elite contacts (especially politicians and editors)\"_ and to _\"employ propaganda assets to [negate] and refute the attacks of the critics.\"_ The CIA advocated using mainstream media feature articles to discredit people labelled _conspiracy theorists_.\n\nWhile the use of these methods has been refined over the years, the essential process of labelling someone a _conspiracy theorist_, while studiously avoiding any discussion of the evidence they highlight, is extremely common in the mainstream media today. We only need look at the reports about [academics who questioned the government's narrative](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/british-academics-sharing-coronavirus-conspiracy-theories-online-v8nn99zmv) about COVID 19 to see the techniques in operation.\n\nThe drive to convince the public to use only _official sources_ for information has seen the [rise of the fact checker](https://in-this-together.com/not-fact-checkers/). These organisations, invariably with the support of government and corporate funding, are offered as the reliable sources which provide _real facts_. The facts they provide are frequently wrong and the fact checking industry has settled legal claims from those who challenged their disinformation.\n\nPeople have been directed [by the mainstream media](https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/risj-review/how-fact-checkers-are-fighting-coronavirus-misinformation-worldwide) to abandon all critical thinking. They just need to go to their government approved fact checker in order be told the truth.\n\nProviding the public believe the people labelled _conspiracy theorists_ are crazy, ill informed or agents for a foreign powers, the mainstream media, politicians and other commentators can undermine any and all evidence they present. In keeping with the CIA's initial recommendations, it is extremely unlikely that the evidence will ever be openly discussed but, if it is, it can be written off as _\"conspiracy theory.\"_\n\nHowever, it isn't just the mainstream media who use the _conspiracy theorist_ label to avoid discussing evidence. Politicians, speaking on the worlds biggest political stage, have seized the opportunity to deploy the CIA's strategy.\n\n### Three Speeches One Agenda\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmWzNn4jzWv6mV6EZxHgqyaYT8QJ3YFYxYPN2KJPn3H6Dg/image.png</center>\n\n\nEven for Prime Ministers and Presidents, addressing the General Assembly of the United Nations is a big deal. These tend to be big thematic speeches as the leader impresses their vision upon the gathered dignitaries and global media. Yet, despite the fact that _conspiracy theorists_ are supposed to be idiots who don't know the time of day, global _\"leaders\"_ have repeatedly used this auspicious occasion to single them out as one of the greatest threats to global security.\n\nIn November 2001 George W. Bush addressed the United Nations General Assembly with the following words:\n\n>“We must speak the truth about terror. Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories concerning the attacks of September the 11th; malicious lies that attempt to shift_ _the blame away from the terrorists, themselves, away from the guilty. To inflame ethnic hatred is to advance the cause of terror.”\n\nEven if you accept the official account of 9/11, and there are [numerous reasons why you wouldn't](https://in-this-together.com/why-understanding-911-is-vital-today/), how does questioning it suggest that you support terrorism or mark you out as a racist? The suggestion appears absurd but it does illustrate that the U.S. president wanted both to silence all criticism of the government account and link those questioning it to extremism and even terrorism.\n\nThis theme was reiterated by the UK Prime Minister David Cameron in his 2014 address. He said:\n\n>\"To defeat ISIL – and organisations like it we must defeat this ideology in all its forms.....it is clear that many of them were initially influenced by preachers who claim not to encourage violence, but whose world view can be used as a justification for it. We know this world view. The peddling of lies: that 9/11 was a Jewish plot or that the 7/7 London attacks were staged.....We must be clear: to defeat the ideology of extremism we need to deal with all forms of extremism – not just violent extremism. We must work together to take down illegal online material............we must stop the so called non-violent extremists from inciting hatred and intolerance.\"\n\nLike Bush before him, Cameron was at pains to identify what he called _non violent extremists_ (commonly called conspiracy theorists). According to him, all who question government accounts of major geopolitical events are, once again, [tantamount to terrorists](https://in-this-together.com/conspiracy-theorists-are-potential-terrorists-according-to-the-fbi/). Calling for online censorship to stop any questions ever being asked, it is this authoritarian need to avoid addressing evidence that led his successor, Prime Minister Theresa May, to propose wide-sweeping [censorship of the Internet](https://in-this-together.com/online-harms-white-paper/).\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmbbJ9oGhWVD2u43egbm7phxWQdXxYY7cdwNijMN4wVLyN/image.png</center>\n\n\nAt the time of writing, the UK is among the many nations still in so called \"lockdown\" following the outbreak of [COVID 19](https://in-this-together.com/covid-19-is-a-statistical-nonsense/). When UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the U.N General Assembly in September 2019 he delivered a speech which seemed [weirdly out of context](https://www.businessinsider.com/boris-johnson-gives-bizarre-speech-about-technology-to-the-un-2019-9?op=1&r=US&IR=T). With Brexit and possible conflict with Iran high on the agenda his address, which barely touched on those issues, was received with considerable bewilderment.\n\nSix months later his predictive powers appear to be remarkable. It transpires that Johnson's comments [were extremely relevant](https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-speech-to-the-un-general-assembly-24-september-2019). Just six months too early.\n\n>\"There are today people today who are actually still anti-science.........A whole movement called the anti-Vaxxers, who refuse to acknowledge the evidence that vaccinations have eradicated smallpox.....And who by their prejudices are actually endangering the very children they want to protect.....I am profoundly optimistic about the ability of new technology to serve as a liberator and remake the world wondrously and benignly.....Together, we can vanquish killer diseases.\"\n\nDespite the wealth of scientific evidence which [justifies scepticism about some vaccines](https://in-this-together.com/vaccines-part-1/), _anti-vaxxer_ (a variant of _conspiracy theorist_), is another label used to convince people not to consider evidence. The assertion is that those who question vaccines all fundamentally reject the concept of artificially inducing an immune response against a disease. This isn't true but how would you know? The _anti-vaxxer_ label alone is sufficient to convince most to turn away.\n\nJohnson's speech rambled across so many seemingly irrelevant subjects there is little reason to suspect any COVID 19 foreknowledge. But given the global pandemic that would occur just a few months later, it was certainly prescient. Johnson was sufficiently concerned about the supposedly baseless questions of so called _conspiracy theorists_ (or anti-vaxxers) to allege they killed children. It doesn't matter who you elect or what party you choose to rule over you, they are only capable of tinkering at the edges of the policy platform. The policy agenda is set at a globalist level. Every day they report these hardest of _facts_ to justify the lockdown (house arrest) and to prove to us that living in abject fear of the COVID 19 syndrome is the only sensible reaction. Apparently, only the most lucrative vaccine ever devised can [possibly save us](https://web.archive.org/web/20200425220327/https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/08/lockdowns-cant-end-until-covid-19-vaccine-found-study-says).\n\nThe COVID 19 mortality statistics are the reason millions will undoubtedly download contact tracing (State surveillance) apps. This will help the vaccinated to secure their very own immunity passports (identity papers) and enable them to prove they are _allowed_ to exist in the post COVID 19 society, whenever the State demands to see their authorisation.\n\nBut how reliable are these statistics? What do they really tell us about what is happening outside the confines of our incarceration? Do they reveal the harsh reality of an _unprecedented_ deadly virus sweeping the nation or does the story of how they have been manipulated, inflated, fudged and exploited tell us something else?\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmYR7SZYQne3DQV5sp9ZjaAyi4KRQGrdCubiawgu1ZC7ab/image.png</center>\n\n&nbsp;\n### The Once Reliable Office Of National Statistics\n&nbsp;\nIn order to [register a death](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/changes-to-the-death-certification-process/an-overview-of-the-death-certification-reforms) in England and Wales, under normal circumstances, a qualified doctor needs to record the cause of death on the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD). They must then notify the Medical Examiner for a corroborating opinion. Providing the doctor is clear on the cause of death and no irregularities or suspicions are noted, if the Medical Examiner concurs, there is no need to refer the death to a coroner.\n\nThe second opinion of the Medical Examiner (another qualified doctor) was [introduced in 2016](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/changes-to-the-death-certification-process/an-overview-of-the-death-certification-reforms) following a series of high profile systemic abuses. The mass murderer Dr Harold Shipman, and doctors at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust and Southern Health NHS Trust, covered up crimes and widespread malpractice by improperly completing MCCD's.\n\nToday, once the Medical Examiner agrees, they then discusses the death with a qualified informant. This is usually someone who knows the deceased. It is an opportunity, more often than not, for a family member or friend to discuss any concerns about the suggested cause of death. If no further issues are raised, the death certificate can be issued to the informant, the Local Registrar notified and the death recorded.\n\nRegistered deaths have been recorded in England and Wales since 1837\\. From 1911 onward the cause of death has been coded in accordance with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Maintaining registration records was the responsibility of the General Register Office until 1970 when it became a department of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS). In 1996 the OPCS merged with the Central Statistical Office (CSO) to form the Office of National Statistics (ONS).\n\nThere have been some tweaks and [legislative changes](https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/methodologies/userguidetomortalitystatisticsjuly2017#background-and-history-of-mortality-data) to the system over the years. Technology has sped things up a bit, but essentially the simple process of recording registered deaths has changed little over the last century. The ONS have been accurately recording registered deaths in England and Wales for more than 23 years.\n\nFrom a statistical perspective this consistent, verifiable system has allowed meaningful analysis to inform public health practice and policy for decades. The inbuilt safeguards, maintained and improved over the years, means the ONS provide some of the most reliable mortality statistics in the world.\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmaYyMP3kwAqbN6ocu9k5jib4TpMCzsTrzURJotshNp8bZ/image.png</center>\n\nThey record all registered deaths no matter where they occurred in England and Wales. Whether the deceased died in hospital, a care home or in the community, once registration is complete the ONS add it to their statistics.\n\nFor weekly statistics the ONS week runs from Saturday to Friday and the statistics are released 11 days after the week ending date. There may be an additional lag for a small number of more complex cases. However, all are eventually resolved and the ONS record the registration of the death in the week it was notified. The ONS also release mortality statistics on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis for comparison.\n\nThis does not suit a hungry MSM eager to sensationalise reported COVID 19 deaths. Nor does it serve the immediate interests of State officials who want the public to accept their own house arrest.\n\nConsequently the MSM have reported COVID 19 mortality statistics from a variety of sources. Some [from the NHS](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51979654), some from the [Department of Health and Social Care](https://web.archive.org/web/20200425151509/https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/25/uk-coronavirus-death-toll-passes-grim-milestone-of-20000) (DHSC) and eventually the ONS. Now the [Care Quality Commission](https://web.archive.org/web/20200429221907/https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/apr/29/keir-starmer-pmqs-criticises-government-over-truly-dreadful-coronavirus-death-rate) have also been thrown into the mix.\n\nUltimately, all of these deaths will be registered. The ONS will record them and it will be possible to know how many died, the causes of death and the trends identified.\n\nExcept in the case of COVID 19.\n\n&nbsp;\n### The Vague Case Of A COVID 19 Death\n&nbsp;\nThe [Coronavirus Act 2020](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2020/7/contents/enacted) received Royal assent on March 25th. This had significant implications for the registration of deaths and the accuracy of ONS data in relation to COVID 19.\n\nNot only did the act [indemnify all NHS doctors](https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/coronavirus-act) against any claims of negligence during the lockdown, it also removed the need for a jury led inquest. Effectively, only in the case of death from the notifiable disease of COVID 19\\. Worrying as these elements of the legislation are, they are just part of a raft of changes singling out registered COVID 19 deaths as unusually imprecise.\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmcxNygTHATi2Fb2hRRpSoWNTrBEdvkuevp8ofKQG9bpn2/image.png</center>\n\nThe [NHS issued guidance](https://improvement.nhs.uk/documents/6590/COVID-19-act-excess-death-provisions-info-and-guidance-31-march.pdf) to assist doctors to comply with the new legislation. Any doctor can sign the MCCD. There is no need for the scrutiny of a second Medical Examiner. The Medical Examiner, or any other doctor, can sign the MCCD alone. The safeguards introduced in 2016 were removed, but only in the case of COVID 19.\n\nDoctors do not necessarily need to have examined the deceased prior to signing the MCCD. If it is considered impractical for the doctor who last saw the deceased to complete the MCCD, providing they report that the deceased probably had COVID 19, any other qualified doctor can sign the death certificate as a COVID 19 death.\n\nThere is no requirement for any signing doctor to have even seen the deceased prior to issuing the MCCD. A video link consultation within the 4 week period leading up to the patient's death, is deemed sufficient for them to pronounce death from COVID 19.\n\nIf that were not tenuous enough, as longs as the signing doctor believes the death was from COVID 19, potentially absent any examination at all, perhaps simply by reviewing the patients case notes, if a coroner agrees, a COVID 19 death can still be registered.\n\nThe coroner's agreement is practically a fait accomplis. On the 26th March the UK State released [guidance from the Chief Coroner](https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Chief-Coroner-Guidance-No.-34-COVID-19_26_March_2020-.pdf). This was intended as _advice_ to all coroners in cases of COVID 19 referral.\n\nThere were some notable changes to normal coronal procedures. Paragraph 5 strongly reminded coroners of their obligation to maintain judicial conduct. It stated:\n\n_\"The Chief Coroner cannot envisage a situation in the current pandemic where a coroner should be engaging in interviews with the media or making any public statements to the press.\"_\n\nThis thinly veiled threat to coroners made it clear that speaking out about any concerns would be considered a breech of judicial conduct. A career ending act it would seem.\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmV4ZSefy2tVP7KehkjjvTXnKVqWE3rH7GXM2aYhtXQif5/image.png</center>\n\nThe NHS guidance advised that if no signing doctor has seen the deceased prior to registration of death, a referral to the coroner must be made. This is a procedural recommendation not a legal requirement. A legal requirement is only applicable in cases of unknown or suspicious causes of death. In turn, the Chief Coroner's guidance states:\n\n_\"COVID-19 is a naturally occurring disease and therefore is capable of being a natural cause of death......The aim of the system should be that every death from COVID-19 which does not in law require referral to the coroner should be dealt with via the MCCD process.\"_\n\nThe Coronavirus Act 2020 also meant that a qualified informant, who agrees the cause of death on the MCCD, no longer needed to be anyone acquainted with the deceased. A hospital official, someone who is _‘in charge of a body’_ or a funeral director can perform this vital function. The Chief Coroner advised:\n\n_\"For registration: where next of kin/informant are following self-isolation procedures, the arrangement for relatives (etc) should be for an alternative informant who has not been in contact with the patient to collect the MCCD and deliver to the registrar for registration purposes. The provisions in the Coronavirus Act will enable this to be done electronically as directed by the Registrar General.\"_\n\nMost relatives, or someone acquainted with the deceased, will be following self isolation procedures. They will almost certainly be terrified of contracting COVID 19 because they have just been told their loved one or friend died from it. Furthermore, the Coronavirus Act has effectively placed them under house arrest.\n\nIn other words, if the MCCD signing doctor hasn't seen the patient, while they were alive, no further inquiry is necessary. The qualified informant can be someone who has neither met the deceased nor knows anything about the circumstances surrounding their death.\n\nIn this situation, but only for COVID 19 deaths, it is fine to assume the death was from the disease. If you, the coroner, don't like the idea, don't make a fuss. Just sign the damn thing or else.\n\n&nbsp;\n### Impacting The COVID 19 Statistics\n&nbsp;\nThis quite bizarre death registration process [compelled the ONS](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/877302/guidance-for-doctors-completing-medical-certificates-of-cause-of-death-covid-19.pdf) to issue guidance to doctors signing MCCD's. Not only is there no need for an examination to pronounce death from COVID 19, nor is there any necessity for a positive test or even an indicative CT scan.\n\nIn their guidance the ONS advised doctors on what constitutes an acceptable _underlying_ cause of death. When mortality statistics are used for research it is usually the most relevant factor. A study from [the University of Toronto](https://pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.1021/acsnano.0c02624) found:\n\n_\"The symptoms can vary, with some patients remaining asymptomatic, while others present with fever, cough, fatigue, and a host of other symptoms. The symptoms may be similar to patients with influenza or the common cold.\"_\n\nNor is there any requirement for a post mortem to confirm the presence of COVID 19\\. Guidance [from the Royal College of Pathologists](https://www.rcpath.org/uploads/assets/d5e28baf-5789-4b0f-acecfe370eee6223/fe8fa85a-f004-4a0c-81ee4b2b9cd12cbf/Briefing-on-COVID-19-autopsy-Feb-2020.pdf) states:\n\n_\"If a death is believed to be due to confirmed COVID-19 infection, there is unlikely to be any need for a post-mortem examination to be conducted and the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death should be issued.\"_\n\nClear causation between the underlying cause and the direct cause is imperative to establish the fact. Just because someone tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 (SC2) virus it doesn't mean they developed the associated syndrome of COVID 19.\n\nThe [Oxford Centre for Evidence Based Medicine](https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/covid-19-what-proportion-are-asymptomatic/) found that anything between 5% - 80% of people who tested positive for SC2 did not have any symptoms of COVID 19\\. Asymptomatic people do not have a disease which impacts their health in the short term. Doctors are required to complete MCCD's _\"to the best of their knowledge and belief\" even_ when test results may not yet be available. The difference in the case of COVID 19 is that all the normal requirements for qualified confirmatory opinions and every opportunity to question the cause of death have been removed.\n\nIn addition, the need to complete [Cremation form 5](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/878093/revised-guidance-to-medical-practitioners-completing-form-cremation-4.pdf), requiring a second medical opinion, has been suspended for all COVID 19 deaths. Given that post mortem confirmation is also extremely unlikely and agreement from a coroner is all but assured, this means possible COVID 19 decedents can be cremated without any clear evidence they ever had the disease.\n\nIn light of all the other registration oddities for determining COVID 19 mortality, the direct causation, proving COVID 19 was the _underlying cause_ of death, appears extremely doubtful. We just don't know how many people have died from COVID 19\\. We are told many people have, but we cannot state with any certainty what the numbers are. Neither can the ONS.\n\nObviously concerned about the implications, the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) have called for a systemic post outbreak review. The [Health Service Journal](https://www.hsj.co.uk/coronavirus/systematic-reviews-to-discover-true-cause-of-outbreak-deaths/7027491.article) reports that the RCPath expects a detailed investigation into causes of death due to the degree of uncertainty.\n\n&nbsp;\n### Statistically It Get's Worse\n&nbsp;\nThe overwhelming majority of medical and care staff, coroners, pathologists, ONS statisticians and funeral directors have no desire to mislead anyone. However, in the case of COVID 19 deaths, the State has created a registration system so ambiguous it is virtually useless. The statistical product recorded by the ONS, despite their best efforts, is correspondingly vacuous.\n\nThis hasn't stopped the State and the MSM from reporting every death as proof of the deadliness of COVID 19\\. Claims of COVID 19 as the underlying cause of death should be treated with considerable scepticism.\n\nInitially the _daily reports_ were based upon the figures of COVID 19 deaths released by the NHS via the DHSC. These were the numbers with positive test results. The ONS also recorded positive test registrations from the NHS, care settings and the community.\n\nAs discussed, a positive test for SC2 doesn't necessarily mean you suffered any health impact from COVID 19\\. In combination with the possibly spurious attribution from hospitals, this '_mention'_ of COVID 19, further distanced the statistics from clear, confirmed causes of death.\n\nThis prompted a significant increase in the COVID 19 fatalities reported by the ONS. Not because more people were dying from it, but because the categorisation of COVID 19 deaths had changed. Any _mention_ of COVID 19 anywhere on the death certificate, regardless of other comorbidities, such as heart failure or cancer, were now recorded as registered COVID 19 deaths by the ONS.\n\nThis addition of claimed COVID 19 deaths has punctuated the ONS data [throughout the outbreak](https://www.ons.gov.uk/news/statementsandletters/thedifferentusesoffiguresondeathsfromcovid19publishedbydhscandtheons). While we are told by the MSM that these [new figures better reflect](https://web.archive.org/web/20200410082347/https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/09/covid-19-hundreds-of-uk-care-home-deaths-not-added-to-official-toll) the reality of COVID 19 mortality, in truth we are moving further away from any meaningful record.\n\nThe evidence suggests the methodology has been altered at opportune moments to inflate and maintain the mortality statistics. Just after the virus peak of infection and the start of the lockdown, the State instructed the ONS to include suspected _\"mentions\"_ of COVID 19\\. Again, as the recorded [numbers of deaths were dropping](https://web.archive.org/save/https://www.hsj.co.uk/news/coronavirus-deaths-mapped-every-region-now-at-least-25pc-below-peak/7027212.article), the State started [releasing more figures](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52455072) from the care sector. From April 29th they have introduced additional figures provided by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).\n\nIf the figures from the NHS are at best questionable, the figures from the CQC run the risk of moving us into fantasy land. All the same problems of decedents not being seen, video consultations, lack of corroborative medical opinion and so forth remain. However, in care settings the onus for signing MCCD's shifts from hospital doctors to General Practitioners (GP's).\n\n<center>https://images.hive.blog/DQmQwNy3aXRj8T8fFGFscic3AiSnsYEpxhYtYQ9kz9bUYHz/image.png</center>\n\nThe CQC is the _independent_ regulator of health and social care in England. During the COVID 19 outbreak it [has not required](https://web.archive.org/web/20200409083825/https://www.cqc.org.uk/guidance-providers/notifications/notification-finder) care homes or community care providers to notify them of suspected cases. It has also suspended all inspections.\n\nFrom the 29th April the CQC will provide statistics to the ONS where a _\"care home provider has stated COVID-19 as a suspected or confirmed cause of death.\"_ This notification is made online via the CQC's Provider Portal. _Provisional_ figures will be included in the ONS daily updates.\n\nThe CQC is tasked with making sure decedents from care homes who died in hospital are removed from the reports before submitting them to the ONS. Otherwise massive duplication will occur. We can only hope statisticians will be extremely diligent.\n\nThe ONS has reported what these statistics from the CQC [will be based upon.](https://www.ons.gov.uk/news/statementsandletters/publicationofstatisticsondeathsinvolvingcovid19incarehomesinenglandtransparencystatement) Frankly, it makes jaw dropping reading. The ONS state:\n\n_\"The inclusion of a death in the published figures as being the result of COVID-19 is based on the statement of the care home provider, which may or may not correspond to a medical diagnosis or test result, or be reflected in the death certification.\"_\n\nMost care home providers are not medically trained. Their judgement regarding whether or not the decedent had COVID 19 may well be the result of a once weekly phone call with a GP. Guidance to GP's [from NHS England](https://web.archive.org/web/20200502150715/https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2020/03/COVID-19-response-primary-care-and-community-health-support-care-home-residents.pdf) states that Possible COVID 19 patients should be identified primarily by _weekly check-ins_ online.\n\nThis is in keeping with the NHS [Key Principles of General Practice](https://web.archive.org/web/20200501193018/https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2020/03/C0133-COVID-19-Primary-Care-SOP-GP-practice_V2.1_6-April.pdf), in relation to COVID 19, which states:\n\n_\"Remote consultations should be used when possible. Consider the use of video consultations when appropriate.\"_\n\nThe ONS add:\n\n_\"There is no validation built into the quality of data on collection. Fields may be left blank or may contain information that is contradictory, and this may not be resolved at the point of publication. Most pertinent to this release are place of death and whether the death was as a result of confirmed or suspected coronavirus.\"_\n\nThis is the system the CQC will use to collect the data for the ONS reports. Once someone, either in a care home or cared for in the community, is assumed to have died of COVID 19, based upon the best guess of the care provider following a chat with a local GP, in keeping with the process we have already discussed, their MCCD will be signed off as a COVID 19 death. The ONS will add their death to the COVID 19 statistics and the State and the MSM will report them to the public as confirmed COVID 19 mortality.\n\nHow anyone can consider the statistics from care providers an accurate and reliable record of COVID 19 deaths is difficult to envisage. Nonetheless, that is what we are asked to believe.\n\n&nbsp;\n### The State And MSM COVID 19 Fudge\n&nbsp;\nAll we are able to identify with any certainty are the total number of of all deaths, called _all cause mortality,_ reported by the ONS. For the first time in their history the ONS are reporting a relatively large number of highly dubious registered causes of death. However, they remain our best hope of knowing how many people have passed away.\n\nIn the meantime, while we wait for the ONS data to emerge, the MSM are reporting every COVID 19 death from any source they can find. Some are vaguely confirmed and some not. They are also reporting suspected COVID 19 deaths from care homes, provisional figures from the NHS , the CQC and then the same figures again from the DHSC and later the ONS.\n\nThe narrative they are presenting, on the back of this hodgepodge of statistical irrelevance, is designed to convince the public of the severity of the outbreak in the UK. There is clearly [high excess mortality](https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsregisteredweeklyinenglandandwalesprovisional/weekending17april2020) at the moment. People requiring treatment for a range of other potentially fatal conditions aren't getting it. This was acknowledged by the UK's Chief Medical Officer Chris Witty in the daily briefing on April 30th:\n\n_\"...You have the direct deaths from coronavirus but also indirect deaths. Part of which is caused by the NHS and public health services not being able to do what they normally can to look after people with other conditions....It is therefore important.....to do the other important things like urgent cancer care, elective surgery and all the other thing like screening....which we need to do to keep people healthy.\"_\n\nHow many people have died of other causes, due to the lockdown, only to be registered as COVID 19 deaths? We just don't know and the ONS have no way of finding out.\n\nHowever we do know, thanks to the ONS, the total _all cause mortality_ as a percentage of population in England and Wales over recent decades. This analysis shows us, while excess mortality this year is high, it is by no means _unprecedented_. In fact, as a percentage of population, it is notably lower to the comparable years of 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999\\. However, if we accept this figure, it means the remaining 14,505 people died with other registered underlying causes. That means approximately 56% of additional excess mortality is attributable to something else, either in addition to or entirely separate from suggested COVID 19.\n\nGiven this inexplicable Spring mortality it seems highly likely these are at least some of the _indirect deaths_ the UK's Chief Medical Officer spoke of. To claim all these excess deaths are the result of COVID 19, as the State and MSM persistently do, is without any justification whatsoever.\n\nIt is not possible to identify how many people have died as a direct result of COVID 19 either from the registration of deaths or the resultant statistics. This is not the fault of medical practitioners or statisticians.
