body> MEN in the UK to be financially able to spend more time off work (up to 3 months 90% pay) and with their children during the first few months of their lives.... (much better than the current £139 per week for 2 weeks!) Whilst this sounds great, in practice it won't work, to play devil's advocate; imagine you are a small business owner, you employ 15 staff and it's a family run, family feel business. Because of that, you have 2 sets of couples among the staff; if one of them gets pregnant, and you have to give both the man and the woman 3 months off with 90% pay, may well financially ruin you. If the other couple get pregnant, well you might as well fold the business; because ultimately you can afford to have 15 staff, not 19; which is what you'll have for at least 3 months. I just think forcing employers to give men maternity leave will lead to much more workplace discrimination; it's a tricky issue. *Cg*

bodyhttp://50.87.248.231/~pregnaw2/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/pregnant-then-screwed1.png Pregnant then screwed - This is a genuine website here in the UK due to how cocked up (see what I did there) the system is... 54,000 women are forced out of their jobs here in 'good old Blighty' due to being pregnant ever year and work place discrimination against pregnant women has apparently doubled in ten years. Basically - if you plan on having a child here, you can either be greeted with two potential outcomes dependant on who you are - Men are congratulated (in having sex... well done you!) whilst... Women spend the first 3-4 months of pregnancy in fear of........ 1. People finding out and telling your boss before you do 2. You may actually lose the baby and will need days off sick (not to mention the days, weeks, months it will take to mentally come to terms with it) 3. Trying to hide your morning sickness from your colleagues to avoid point 1 4. The fear that should point 1 happen, the business may 'restructure' or find ways to make you obsolete. Now if you are reading this as a woman (I hope) you'll be nodding to this anger or perhaps if you're reading else where in the world you may be shocked, or perhaps you're thinking 'First world problems sweetheart'. If anything, eventually I hope you are a bit pleased that this issue is being dragged out.... There is nothing that the British people and British government like more, is to be embarrassed! Stay calm and carry on and all... If you are reading this as a man, you could be thinking a few things. I'm not going to be an arrogant cow and pretend I know what is happening in your male head, but lets consider it this way - if, whoever you are, have a wife or girlfriend who you hope to have a child with, just consider how you would feel if her career will be in turmoil because she loves you so much to make an awesome little person with you... ...pretty bullshit right? You may think 'but she doesn't have to work, I'll take care of her' which is very noble of you, but doesn't really resolve the matter that the mother of your children will be pushed out of her career due to pushing your child out of her delicate area (that's going to hurt enough as it is!) The stress also placed on these women who face losing their jobs due to pregnancy is horrific - losing a child is something I would never wish upon anyone - it's heartbreaking and when you lose a child due to stress you are at higher risk of depression as you mentally beat the shit out of yourself for allowing the world to physically destroy your happiness. So I for one will be joining this campaign. Not only is it for women to be protected from unfair dismissal, but equally calls for MEN in the UK to be financially able to spend more time off work (up to 3 months 90% pay) and with their children during the first few months of their lives.... (much better than the current £139 per week for 2 weeks!) So UK readers and those further afield, please join this campaign http://pregnantthenscrewed.com/campaign-and-sign-up .... Help the career-driven, intelligent women in the UK avoid being 'fired' for simply deciding to do the one job they want more than anything in the world... ....failing that, drop us a like or follow and I will keep you updated! bodyNOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED & EASILY OFFENDED. "Open Now", we see this all the time... So here I try to understand why a subject line matters and relate it to shockingly common attitudes many of us have witnessed. "Why would I worry about a subject line, it's clicks I need"...... yes, ultimately it is clicks you need.... but where will they come from if no one opens your email in the first place?..... How will you make revenue from emails if no one looks at them, let alone engages with them. If you are reading this blog, there must be a scratch of intrigue or intention to improve your current emails / ways of working - but please bear in mind, this is a very blunt and basic blog, which people from inside and outside of the marketing sector will (hopefully) enjoy. Now I know this sounds like a really simple and painfully easy topic, but it is shocking how many marketing professionals do not value their email marketing subject lines. A subject line is 90%* of the time a last-minute decision. Imagine a subject line is like a shopping bag.... you need one, it's going to carry your email for you. Let's say your email is new jumper (sweater, if you're reading this from across the pond), and you need a bag (subject line) to wrap up your jumper. But then to your annoyance, the bag pulled out by the sales assistant to place the jumper in is disgusting - It's been used countless times before and it even has the odd hole in it (maybe in email terms this is a missing piece of data which its personalisation is reliant on; and with it missing, it looks pathetic). It just really doesn't suit you; the shop or your jumper.... "I can't walk down the street with this?!" So here you have a great new jumper, it's just what you want and you cannot wait to show it off...... but it's in a shit bag.... a really... shit... reused bag. When you question about the bag before you leave the shop, you're told by your older, 'sensible' friend standing next to you "It's only a bag! It'll do the job". You reluctantly walk away - disappointed and thinking your mate Dave is a cheap bellend. Now an email is not a Jumper. And shopping bag (which costs 5p in the UK!) is not a subject line.... now let's flip that back to my point. Now imagine you have an amazing email. It's beautiful, clearly represents your brand, gets your message across, mobile-responsive and tagged up to the eyeballs! MWAH!!! You could kiss your designer Steve!! (that's if he didn't grin at you across the office with a bit of biscuit stuck in his beard). Then you need a crisp, edgy and attention grabbing subject line.... you look around, searching for inspiration..... Nadda.... "Well the email is about summer isn't it?" asks Jenny, the young know-it-all.... "Yesss" you answer with one eyebrow raised; waiting for a spark of brilliance but preparing for let down bigger than Tony Blair's Millennium Dome.... (google it) "So let's do "Here's some great items for the summer"....... Okay, don't lose your shit.... Gold medal to Jenny for pointing out the obvious here. Then, Simon comes over to you. Simon is the Head of CRM / Email Marketing. He takes one look at you struggling to decide a subject line and says "Just go with 'Don't miss out - check out our great new items'... It works every time, it'll do the job." Now.... think back to that bag. That rubbish bag did the job... Bellend Dave said the same thing... The difference is you've already invested into the contents of your shopping bag, your customers however have not even seen, let alone invested in the content of your email. Why will they bother opening another email with yet another generic, half-arsed subject line. If you go with a subject line with no intelligent use of preview subject line, no smart use of data, no personalisation, no reference to brand personality, no seasonality or psychological triggers (just to name a few) then sadly you're never going to break through the 215 BILLION emails sent in the world every-fricking-day. So please, by the power of Greyskull, the Queen or Grumpy Cat (what ever floats your boat) start planning your subject lines from the moment you come up with the purpose of your email. bodyNOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED & EASILY OFFENDED. And, learn to love your preview or super subject line just as much. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/d6/76/09/d67609128e7779dea3ae29f37d59bb00.jpg Would you like to know more? (Yes, yes 'Starship Trooper' reference) Subject line 'dos and don't' blog will be available by the start of September. 'Super' preview subject lines blog coming by the 10th September. Until then, love your subject lines just as much, if not more than your content - without them you might as well make your designer Steve, and his biscuity-beard, redundant. bodyThanks for being intrigued enough to open one of my posts........... Hello! I'm here to help, that is my purpose in life... Summary: I'm a woman who keeps the world moving and ticking over. By that, I'm the person who picks up those missing keys to find the owner, the one who will change a tyre for someone stranded or on odd occasions jump into some serious situations (whilst scaring the life out of myself). I just want to help people. I'm here on Steemit pure and simply to help make the world think about a topic, laugh at the random events any late-twenties/early thirties professional will face and also offer advise for small businesses in boosting the strength of your marketing strategies. I'm working on some great posts to share with you. But who the hell am I to tell you that? Well I'm not the top of the tree, but I've worked in senior manager positions across some of the biggest businesses in the UK, if not the world on the odd occasion. I'm anonymous in order to not cause conflict whilst working with my current contracts but still shares stories which could help you, without being accused of sharing trade secrets from my direct peers. I am also a feminist (don't decide to stop reading for just ten more seconds). I'm would say i'm a very level feminist. It doesn't mean I hate men before a few of you may ask...I love men... honestly I think I was a man in a previous life (oh eh..) but I will speak out about any major inequality... equal pay anyone? Why Baroness? Well no I'm not formally a Baroness in the UK, however Baroness is traditionally a title for women of low-nobility... basically a middle-woman... so I thought being in my position made this title suitable. I had to work hard (and by that I mean work my backside off) to get to where I am currently, so I see the world what I feel is slightly more realistic view. (That's not a criticism on those who were more fortunate, but surviving on the minimum does teach you a lot of skills). It is also slightly linked to Barren - a very old fashioned term to women who cannot/do not have children... so yes I am child-free, so for now there will be no 'working-mum' blogs on here. So sit back and enjoy what I hope will be entertaining as well as useful to all budding marketing professionals out there, or just those late-twenties workers who need to have a laugh. Check out my current blogs so far on random events in life in general. I may stray into gaming based topics (being married to a games artist will have that effect) and if there is a marketing topic you would like me to talk about, please let me know. bodyHey Nendaz, I agree completely! And it is great that you and millions of people enjoy the game. It's healthy that it's getting people moving around more and out of the house. This is simply raising the question of what negative and positive effects could the game have (if any) in the long run.

bodyHello there! I can agree that the view about catching Pokemon and make them fight each other is rather cruel. And yes we should be more careful what our children do and how it can impact them on a larger scale. But as most things in this world there is both a good side and a bad side. The good side is that Pokemon Go connects people and makes people go out and get some exercise. And i think thats wonderful a lot of people enjoy this game including me! Nendaz

bodyhttp://pokesg.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/pokemon-go-japan-360x248.jpg Pokemon Go, the fad of 2016. Causing people of all ages to become accident prone, slightly obsessed gamers who must 'catch' little critters which do not exist. You would have seen these people, wondering around with their phones in front of them and not paying attention to much else. I even had a colleague pointing their phone at me in the office as there was a 'Bulbasaur' next to my desk (I lost a little respect for him after this). https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/47/57/ab/4757abddedcd19ed10963cedf76b89d8.jpg But why on earth is a game which is based on imprisoning creatures to then fight others for our own amusement/gain even popular? Did Pokemon originate from an ancient way of life / entertainment ideology? Heavy viewpoint I know and yes, yes I know it's based on a fun 'children's show' (maybe the adult gamer's out there should remember that) but the overall concept is loosely similar to that of the Roman Empire and the use of (some) Gladiators. I realised this when (and don't judge me) I had a dream that my cat, aka my furry child, had someone trying to imprison her into a poke ball and steal her from me. It was awful! I then woke up, firstly realising how sad that was, and then the fact that we see kids want to go and capture 'make believe' characters in augmented reality. And obviously augmented reality makes this more 'real' than sitting in a room on a console. Will or could this impact their view on actual reality? Could this make them believe that animals are our future property, simply up for grabs, and devalue their freedom? The world has already seen that aggressive games such as GTA can corrupt vulnerable young minds, but the majority of gamer's were in no way impacted - I didn't exactly grew up and believe I could have any car I wanted by simply throwing the driver out of it and hiding in a garage until the cops passed by. But could Pokemon Go have any type of impact? It's just a thought. If kids are addicted and stupid enough to run up train tracks for non-existent creatures, what long term mindset could this also manifest into (especially if the child has a rubbish parent who doesn't explain that this really is only a game and you cannot use animals to fight... or trespass into your neighbours garden). Pokemon Go fans, please don't berate me - it is a gaming phenomenon, that's not being questioned. It is an intelligent and addictive game which has immense health benefits and gets everyone moving a lot more. My husband has played Pokemon Go, although it did cause us to take an extra twenty minutes to do the food shop with him trying to catch a Pokemon in the cheese aisle, he did get into it for two weeks before the novelty wore off. I'm just considering what the premise actually is for a moment and it would be interesting if there's any research in the future to see if this alters the mindset, be it positive or negative? Will the WWF see a reduction/increase in donations or will the RSPCA (animal welfare charity in the UK) see an increase of animal abuse i.e. dog fights for one. Or could the opposite happen, and a need for ownership increase the amount of abandoned pets who get re-homed? Who knows (but sadly we have already seen some fecking idiot dye their dog yellow to look like Pikachu) Want to catch Pokemon? No thanks, I'd rather go shooting at targets at my archery club... which must be because I grew up playing 'Time Crisis' https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Namco-GunCon-PS1.jpg

bodyIf the majority of women do cleaning and cooking better, that's only because of how we were raised and the expectations put on us. Men are expected to eat like shit when single and women expected to remain skinny no matter how much or how little support we have in the home. Sounds like the guy is waiting for that moment of feeling like he can handle everything, and waiting for each of those life moments and at the end of all of them, we all realize we never really have it all together.

body... Beep Beep... Beep *hit* 5.45am and the alarm goes off. I ignore it, as its not my alarm, so I roll over, snuggle deeper into the duvet and close my eyes. 10 minutes later, the rude noise returns like an irritating child screaming over nothing. Then I hear another sound; far worse then any alarm, child, cat fight or even house alarm (which no one ever phones the police for).... I hear the words “Time to get up for your run baby” .... UUUURGH! 'Go away Monday' and ‘how dare you say that!!’ are the first thoughts that cross my mind when my man speaks. I momentarily hate him, but it isn’t his fault. I distinctly (and stupidly) remember asking him to make sure I get up in the morning for a run before work. ‘Good man!’ you are probably thinking, and ‘stupid girl’ the rest of you would definitely be thinking along with a roll of the eyes and subtle shake of the head! I fall out of bed, feeling more tired then I did when I got into the heavenly duvet. Begrudgingly put on anything which looks remotely like ‘gym gear’ and start to put my trainers on. Hubby, is now up and playing his daily “Where are my _____ game?” Today it was keys, (yesterday his wallet) and there I am glaring at him with the “How dare you do as I say and wake me up when I don’t really mean it” - Men can listen when you don't want them to. Hair pulled back and a real ‘jog on’ face adopted; I start my 3 mile run, jog, walk.... crawl around the block. I hate running, I would rather do almost anything then go running. When you hate running, something is always wrong and you become the master of excuses. It's the environment, It's too hot, too cold, too busy outside, your feet hurt, your bum hurts, people gawp at you (or really laugh at you) from the comfort of their cars. The ones who laugh are those who appreciate the incredible invention, the car, way too much! And the worst reason for hating running (and I speak for all women out there in the UK) is builders. http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02264/building_2264435b.jpg I'm sure its similar elsewhere in the UK but around 'our way', builders are an issue. ‘Back in the day’ when it was still legal for them to have their bums hanging out without offending a menopausal mother; they would have a look, whistle or a quick 'morning love!' and get back to their work aka drinking tea and eating biscuits. Now it has developed into their need to try to have a full blown conversation! "Alright Love! Cheeky! Run before work is it?... go on girl, look at that arse. Look at her.......!!' followed by the usually whistling and cheers - two words come to my mind about now (the second word is definitely 'off'). I just want to begrudgingly torture my lower body and not my ears. The problem continues, as it isn’t just as you go past, it will be for whole time they can see you! This is not helped when they are working on the half a mile stretch of straight road you need to run to get back to your house. Flattered yes, however forced into awkward conversation? Also yes. If I wanted a useless soundtrack to my run which would make my ears want to bleed, I would be listening to Drake. Builders, you jog on.

Look at her.......!!' followed by the usually whistling and cheers - two words come to my mind about now (the second word is definitely 'off'). I just want to begrudgingly torture my lower body and not my ears.\n\nThe problem continues, as it isn’t just as you go past, it will be for whole time they can see you! This is not helped when they are working on the half a mile stretch of straight road you need to run to get back to your house. Flattered yes, however forced into awkward conversation? Also yes. If I wanted a useless soundtrack to my run which would make my ears want to bleed, I would be listening to Drake. \n\nBuilders, you jog on.",

bodyhttp://i67.tinypic.com/n49j7r.jpg This year is definitely the 'Wedding year'... which means it may contain alcohol... a lot of alcohol. Next week we are going to wedding number 8. Considering that's 8 weddings we have attended this year, that also means 8 presents, 8 weekends put aside for these occasions, 8 awkward best man speeches to listen to, 8 outfits and of course 8 stag/hen do's. The joys of late-twenties life. Obviously the attendance to the stag / hen do is optional, providing you are not bothered by upsetting a life long friend, but you need to consider the major factors - Can I afford it? Do I have time off work for it?... Do I really want to go to the Googlebox Rejects Zone aka Butlins? Or even have a stripper called Gavin think he can make my year...? Once attendance is confirmed, you will then find yourself being asked about possible 'add ons'. Hen Do 'add ons' include butler in the buff, cocktail classes, drinks kitty, paying for the bride to wear some god-awful tat etc. Stag Do add ons include chipping in for a stripper, paying towards an evening show or private booth at a 'nightclub' - plus money to stuff down the pants of women dancing in these 'nightclubs'. But the similarity both the Hen and Stag Do's have in common is of course - The named t-shirt / Hoodie. So as you can imagine, we have a selection of hen/stag themed hoodies and t-shirts now lying around the house. There's the hoddie from the Butlins hen do, where I went to Skegness (for those of you unsure - Skegness is a seaside resort in the UK where you could catch Chlamydia from simply touching a beach ball). I have the 'Bride to be' sash and accessories from my own hen do and an army themed t-shirt with 'Chrissie's Privates' across the chest. The hubby has also picked up an array of Stag Do memorabilia which includes the t-shirt titled 'Princess' and 'Team Stanton'. WARNING TO ALL GEEKS OUT THERE - He also has a Princess Leia outfit lying around somewhere - the outfit he always dreamt I would wear, however not anymore since he became every mans dream himself and was Princess Leia for his entire stag do. But what do you do with all these items after? Sure, they're great when out and about during the hen do and you can even get away with wearing the hoodies for a week or two after. But do I really want to be running on a treadmill, getting all hot and sweaty in the gym while wearing 'Chrissie's Privates'? Am I really going to wear my bride-to-be sash and hen do veil ever again? I am considering a few ideas, mainly because I do not want to put these memories in the bin. They are all souvenirs from friends 'last nights of freedom', someone I cared about who had fun before her big day. So perhaps I could make the t-shirts into a blanket? And as for the hen do veil? I'll let princess where that. Let's hope this next wedding is a free bar!

bodyhttp://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article6679910.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Subway.jpg Dear Subway I would like to thank you on your new and surprising diet plan which I completed this week. I never knew that you had created a diet which can induce a faster weight-lose than many other diets advertise. Who would have known a 6" Tuna Sub now not only comes with a coffee (for a bargain £3) but also changes your plans for the next 3 days! After 5 hours of eating this amazing sub, I could feel the changes kicking in - what can only be described as 'Stage 1' The cramps... this was quickly followed by 'Stage 2' Bathroom Resident along with 'Stage 3' Sofa Non-Sleeper. I was thrilled to be awake for 40 hours, in which I made over 200 visits to the bathroom (and I don't need to tell you this is no exaggeration). Not only was I losing weight one way but your clever Sub managed to cause other infections (sorry improvements!) which also made me severely dehydrated and I performed a wonderful rendition of the film 'The Exorcist'.... I know I'm bragging! I also now have a much bigger respect for the NHS and was very happy to visit them, granting them permission to 'knock me out' to end this exciting journey I was on. I have also had time off work, so thank you so much for upsetting my peers and giving me a 'Sub' holiday! I love being waited on and looked after by my tired husband. Thanks to you I have lost half a stone in just 3 days! WOW! Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing of other success stories out there. ..... Pricks.

bodyWhen do you become men? I confused my husband by simply calling him 'a man' and I have been struggling to understand why all week. Much to his 'amusement' he hit 30 a while back and I am sure I have spied a grey hair trying to steal the limelight within his eyebrows. Yet being known as ‘a man’ still makes him raise one eyebrow (with said grey hair) with that 'REALLY?' expression. And he doesn't seem to be the only man our age with this reaction, be it denial or social surroundings, they don't all seem to feel like ‘the man’ they wish to become yet. So is it moving out? I didn’t fly from the nest, more like jumped before I was pushed at 22 and dragged my 28 year old fiancé with me from the comfort of his parents security. He survived.. just... and so far I have successfully managed to do his washing and cook his dinners to keep him ticking over. Still not feeling ‘the man’ though, did marriage not impact him in this way? Our friends also got married earlier this year and after an over-the-top wedding in a castle, it didn’t seem to change much in our friends eyes. He merely fulfilled 'the next step', a duty of keeping his relationship and partner happy… and happy she was! I questioned more; did he feel incomplete, as he is one of a few friends without a baby. He has not yet proven to the world that he is capable of 'creating life', similar to how a caveman would show pride in ‘man make fire!’. In the words of Jeremy Kyle, having a baby doesn’t prove anything! But is this where men of today find their certification for being an adult, when a child is around? Us moving in together didn’t do it, and being married also changes nothing. If anything, during a wedding service, surely the mother of the groom should be walking your fiancé down the aisle and handing him over to you. You’ll be the one making him the man, proving his privates work (therefore destroying yours). You'll be washing his pants and cooking his dinners (and don't shake your head with the 'equal' relationship persona - its fact us women can cook and clean better). Basically being the woman, you will eventually be caring for him as the child he deep down longs to remain. Men never grow up, not really, the lucky so and so's! It is unsurprising that some men believe they are a real man when they provide for and care for the family he created…. Giving him every opportunity to play games and be a kid all over again.... where's the Lego?

"body": "When do you become men?\n\nI confused my husband by simply calling him 'a man' and I have been struggling to understand why all week. \n\nSo is it moving out? I didn’t fly from the nest, more like jumped before I was pushed at 22 and dragged my 28 year old fiancé with me from the comfort of his parents security. He survived.. just... and so far I have successfully managed to do his washing and cook his dinners to keep him ticking over. \n\nStill not feeling ‘the man’ though, did marriage not impact him in this way? Our friends also got married earlier this year and after an over-the-top wedding in a castle, it didn’t seem to change much in our friends eyes. He merely fulfilled 'the next step', a duty of keeping his relationship and partner happy… and happy she was! \n\nI questioned more; did he feel incomplete, as he is one of a few friends without a baby. He has not yet proven to the world that he is capable of 'creating life', similar to how a caveman would show pride in ‘man make fire!’. In the words of Jeremy Kyle, having a baby doesn’t prove anything! But is this where men of today find their certification for being an adult, when a child is around?\n\nUs moving in together didn’t do it, and being married also changes nothing. Basically being the woman, you will eventually be caring for him as the child he deep down longs to remain.\n\nMen never grow up, not really, the lucky so and so's! It is unsurprising that some men believe they are a real man when they provide for and care for the family he created…. Giving him every opportunity to play games and be a kid all over again.... where's the Lego?",

bodyDear Subway I would like to thank you on your new and surprising diet plan which I completed this week. WOW! Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing of other success stories out there. ..... Pricks.

bodyThis year is definitely the 'Wedding year'.
