Other ritual behaviors require a smaller cast of characters, and more or less ceremony that range from a religious confession to obsessive hand washing. Participants' ritual roles may be severely defined, as in graduation and initiation ceremonies, or more diffusely assigned, as in the numerous marketplace rituals, consumers experience as \"fans,\" \"guests,\" etc. As a form of social symbolic behavior, ritual practices are performed for some target audience. Even the solitary rituals of religious prayer, or personal grooming, are commonly performed with significant others in mind. Ritual behaviors are symbolic expressions through which individuals articulate their social and metaphysical affiliations. Douglas, B Holt (1995)\n\n\nRituals and the sacred\n\nLooking back at my soccer fanatic days, every other Sunday I would put on my Wydad AC Jersey and any other red colored garment to go with, running shoes well tied, 25 Dirhams  (the equivalent of no more than $3) tucked in my right sock just enough for the cheapest section of the stadium, yet the most exciting. Several minutes into the game…the stadium is full, yet supporters are still admitted. My section of the bleachers doesn’t sit down, the Ultra culture doesn’t believe in sitting down, people chanted, smoked hash, drank, ate and celebrated. \n\n\n\n\n\nConclusion\n\nThis composite description exemplifies the collective, repetitive, dramatic and emotional qualities that characterize the spectator’s experience of attending a sports game and other consumption activities such as the Movie Theater, concerts, festivals and parades. These attributes are remarkably similar to those associated with the religious or sacred rituals of primitive societies. Thus, The sacred component of the ritual is as important as the beating of the heart and the air that he breaths, making the sacred an external basis of human life. Being an external basis, it is vulnerable to a person’s environment, thus it can be affected positively or negatively and is in itself an unconscious and emotional channel to create a conviction in the support of a belief, ideology or a product; for good or bad… as humans and consumers we must learn to research our consumption, question our societies, protect our identities and take responsibility for our impulses.",

Although ritual practices are intertwined into the tapestry of human history, the term ritual remains vague and lacks a definitive definition. Therese Rando a PHD clinical psychologist maintained that a ritual is “a specific behavior or activity which gives symbolic expression to certain feelings and thoughts of the actor individually or as a group”. Rituals also have important anthropological functions, because they create and transmit societal values and cultural norms. Which proves Psychologists in experiments over the past three decades. It was observed that if you show a child how to perform some action that they haven’t seen before, they will faithfully replicate not only the steps required to achieve the goal, but also superfluous ones. Why they do this is a mystery, especially when other animals do not. It could be a clever strategy: the human world is so complex that it makes sense\n for kids to copy everything until they have time to work out what is necessary. Sometimes, some children can identify actions as causally opaque? If so, perhaps their brains see them as a cue to switch from normal reasoning to a “ritual stance” in which they interpret the behavior of others as social signals, and go out of their way to copy them. It’s been discovered that children copy apparently aimless sequences of actions more faithfully than sequences that move towards an obvious goal. Which explains the almost blind validation of some aspects of societal rituals.\n\nThe foundations of ritual behavior\n\nThree predominate foci of ritual activities have been identified by researchers: liberation rituals, transformation rituals, and celebration or commemoration rituals. Liberation rituals involve the symbolic freeing of individuals from barriers that prevent healing. For this type of ritual, a symbolic act of destruction or termination is used to facilitate healing and obtain closure like the scattering of a loved one’s ashes. Transformation rituals involve societal rites of passage. In particular, an individual may experience rebirth through initiation practices, the receiving of blessings from the community, and affirmation from higher powers. Which explains how an individual may feel a sense of rejuvenation or rebirth when rejecting a previous religion and converse to a new one. Essentially, the liberation, transformation and commemoration rituals are crucial and sometimes undisputed fundamentals of an individual’s identity and belonging to a society. Psychological approaches to the study of ritual behavior vary considerably, but they tend generally to emphasize ritual's dual role in regulating an individual's impulse life, and in mediating social relationships. Freud views some rites and ceremonials as manifestations of obsessional neuroses. He also describes them as necessary prerequisites to the development of human civilization because they demand the renunciation of socially harmful instincts.",

Individuals are often familiar with rituals that are rooted in cultural traditions and life transitions like weddings, birthdays, baptisms and holidays. Individuals can take part in complex daily rituals that include leaving and returning rituals, bedtime rituals, and mealtime rituals, as well as lovemaking rituals, fighting and reconciliation rituals, and holiday rituals. Also, Ritual behavior is dramatically scripted and acted out and is performed with formality, seriousness, and inner intensity.\n\nTypes of rituals\n\nGenerally, the most common types of rituals across developed and under developed societies are initiation rituals in which the seeker or prospect must partake in order to join a certain organization, group, cult…etc. Initiation rituals may include vows of secrecy, a ceremonial rebirth of some kind and an oath of loyalty to the association or group. Magical rituals can be practiced or performed with a group or alone. Usually, magical rituals include the use of ritual tools and an understanding of the nature of correspondence. Worship rituals on the other hand uses prayer, blessings of food and drink towards a divine figure or belief; while celebration rituals uses feasts and consecration of food and drink on a special reoccurring day of the year, like thanksgiving and Christmas. Imber-Black and Roberts (1992) Another interesting type of ritual is the protection ritual, where symbols and geometric shapes like the pentagram are used to direct divine energy for protection to the performer. Two other fundamental rituals that have emerged in some of the first civilizations are healing rituals, which engage a healer in a series of rituals to cure a diseased individual. The second are funeral rituals, where the ritual engages in sending the dead to the next world or to the next realm. Logically, a combination of some or all of these types of rituals can make up what is called “societal Rituals”.\n\nTo be continued...",
