And I will be giving touches to the painting even when I am breathing my last — still, the painting will be incomplete. – Osho\n\nAcross the globe, young people are reporting to clinicians at unprecedented levels with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. At a global level, over 300 million people are estimated to suffer from depression, equivalent to 4.4% of the world’s population. One of the fundamental reason for this mental disorder is that the younger people is showing greater tendency toward perfectionism. This market-based society, principles of neoliberalism, focus on self-interest and competition, enormous pressure to demonstrate their value and outperform their peers (both in family and workplace) has created an atmosphere to prove their worthiness in the society. If people rank poorly, the logic of our market-based society dictates that they are less deserving – that their inferiority reflects some personal weakness or flaw. The very idea of perfection has driven the whole of mankind to a state of madness. \n\n**Are we infallible?**\n\nBroadly speaking, perfectionism is an irrational desire for flawlessness, combined with harsh self-criticism. But on a deeper level, what sets a perfectionist apart from someone who is simply diligent or hard-working is a single-minded need to correct their own imperfections. Perfectionists need to be told that they have achieved the best possible outcomes, whether that’s through scores and metrics, or other peoples’ approval. When this need is not met, they experience psychological turmoil, because they equate mistakes and failure to inner weakness and unworthiness. To think in terms of perfection means you are thinking in terms of ideology, goals, values, shoulds, should-nots. You have a certain pattern to fulfill and if you fall from the pattern you will feel immensely guilty, a sinner. And the pattern is bound to be such that you cannot achieve it. If you can achieve it then it will not be of much value to the ego. So, the intrinsic quality of the perfectionist ideal is that it should be unattainable, only then is it worth attaining. You see the contradiction? And that contradiction creates a schizophrenia: you are trying to do the impossible, which you know perfectly well is not going to happen -- it cannot happen in the very nature of things. If it can happen then it is not much of a perfection; then anybody can do it.\nSo only two alternatives emerge from this: one is, you start feeling guilty. If you are innocent, simple, intelligent, you will start feeling guilty -- and guilt is a state of sickness. And guilt is rooted in the idea of perfection.\nThe second alternative is: if you are cunning then you will become a hypocrite, you will start pretending that you have achieved it. You will deceive others and deceive yourself. You will start living in illusions, hallucinations. To pretend, to live a life of pretensions is far worse than the life of a guilty person. The guilty person at least is simple, but the pretender, the hypocrite is a crook. \nIrrational ideals of the perfect self have become desirable – even necessary – in a world where performance, status and image define a person’s usefulness and value. You don’t need to look far to find examples; corporations and their marketers offer all manner of cosmetic and material solutions for the flawed consumer. Meanwhile, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat provide platforms to exchange curations of the perfect version of oneself and lifestyle with others. This is a culture which preys on insecurities and amplifies imperfection, impelling young people to focus on their personal deficiencies. As a result, some young people brood chronically about how they should behave, how they should look, or what they should own. Essentially, agitating to perfect themselves and their lives.\n\n>In one of the poems of Rabindranath Tagore… the critics all over the world criticized it because it suddenly begins and it suddenly ends; there is no beginning and no end. It seems as if it is a middle portion — something in the beginning is missing, something in the end is missing.\nAnd Rabindranath was asked, “You have been criticized but why are you silent?”\nHe said, “Those people don’t understand life. Life is always in the middle, and my poetry represents life. Out of nowhere it begins, and suddenly it disappears and evaporates without giving you the feeling of completion.”\n\nWe don’t know the beginning of life, we don’t know the end of life. We are always in the middle and everybody has been always in the middle. It is a process, an ongoing process, a river that goes on flowing. That’s the beauty of it, that’s the glory of it.  Young people should learn to detach from the false notions of this society and learn to accept the imperfections which makes us human. To ask for perfection is to ask for death. Death is the full-stop. In life you we can use commas, semi-colons, but never a full-stop.\n\nIt’s no wonder that there’s substantial evidence indicating that perfectionism is associated with (among other things) depression, anorexia nervosa, suicide ideation and early death. For the first time on record, young people are expected to be materially less well-off in adulthood than their parents. And it’s not just their material well-being that’s at stake – their mental and physical well-being is threatened by this hidden epidemic of perfectionism. Machines are perfect. Radhakrishnan p.128)\n\nToday, science and religion inarguably agrees to the fact single entity or force created the universe and is omnipresent, maintaining and governing the fundamental scheme of things in this and other universes. In Sanatana Dharma, Brahman (the Vedantic concept) is the one supreme, universal spirit that is the origin and support of the universe. Physicists and cosmologists call this divine source the Unified Field. In a profound sense, Brahman and the Unified Field of physics appear to be synonymous.\n\n>“Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti,” which means “there is only one truth, only men describe it in different ways.”  - Rig Veda\n\nThe fourth industrial revolution with other socio-economic and demographic factors is coming as storm, resulting in major disruptions to every sector. From intelligent robots and self-driving cars to gene editing and 3D printing, dramatic technological change is happening at lightning speed all around us. There is immense emphasis on interconnectedness is surging in all these sectors. Internet of computers has enabled us to thing beyond computers, to Internet of things(IoT), Internet of economics(IoE), and Internet of everything(IoE). I want to take internet of everything one step further and ask basic question, are we connected as beings? If yes, there must be a way to access each other, communicate with each other without the help of silica. It is called Internet of Beings(IoB). In Vedic system of thought, this internet of beings is called collective consciousness or Unified Consciousness. \n\n**Synthetic unity VS integral unity**\n\nInternet is a synthetic unity as it is, meaning it is a unity of separately existing things that are being put to together in a most coherent fashion. Devices like routers, servers, cell phone towers, satellites, radios, smartphones etc work together with the help of protocols to create the network of networks.  Protocols are sets of rules that machines follow to complete tasks. Without a common set of protocols that all machines connected to the Internet must follow, communication between devices couldn't happen. The various machines would be unable to understand one another or even send information in a meaningful way. The protocols provide both the method and a common language for machines to use to transmit data.\n\nIn Vedic philosophy, we have this concept called integral unity, meaning consciousness is inherently unified to begin with. It is not that we must artificially stick them together like how we do in internet. But this unified consciousness includes structure, includes potential to manifest into all sorts of ways. From this unified entity emerges diversity, no matter how much diversity there is eg: animals, plants, sand rock, water etc. there is fundamental unity which unifies it all. This is different premise on nature of reality. This idea fundamentally distinguishes from synthetic unity of the world. This state of consciousness  is available to everybody, it is not something which is limited to prophets, messiahs. Discoveries of how to attain this consciousness is what our gurus teach, lineages teach, sampradayas teach in Vedic tradition. The whole philosophy of tantra, meditation, yoga is all about people have being to achieve that. There many methods and different methods may work different people just like internet protocols. If you evolve people in that way, you don’t need machines or mechanical devices to make connectivity. You achieve higher states of consciousness, and thereby exhibit (according to rishis) connectivity. People can see what somebody else is seeing, listen to other person, there is remote causation. Ideas we have about matter, space, time breakdown and superseded by other ideas in those states of consciousness. These ideas are not somebody wrote one time or some anecdotal stories based on trust on somebody. They are constantly rediscovered at different point in time and era. It is validated in a way empirical science validates the claims. Scientists are doing research in neuroscience studying yoga and meditation are validating those claims. \n\nNeuroscientific research using functional MRI and various other techniques have been applied on advanced meditators to understand the human brain and mind. Google’s AI guru, Demis Hassabis says that great Artificial Intelligence must build on neuroscience. As Hassabis explains in an interview with the Verge, artificial intelligence and neuroscience have become “two very, very large fields that are steeped in their own traditions,” which makes it “quite difficult to be expert in even one of those fields, let alone expert enough in both that you can translate and find connections between them.”\n\nAfter artificial intelligence went mainstream, ample of resources are being poured in research and development. On the other hand, Vedic system is not being studied with the same enthusiasm. Worst part is Vedic system of thought is being distorted and appropriated into science especially into neuroscience without any or less acknowledgement to the actual source. I offer you a quote from my own (not yet published) novel, regarding ambition:\n\n\"Ambition is the driving force of civilization and the one trait we seem to share with no other creature on this earth.       "body": "Fascinating read. I can definitely see the parallels. Anarchism, which is embraced by many blockchain enthusiasts, is all about small, self-sufficient and self-governing communities with no central government. Very much like that espoused by Ghandi I guess. The blockchain is certainly a step in that direction. Will be interesting to see where it goes.",
