However, its scientific name is Syzygium samarangenese, but it is more commonly called the Rose Apple, Malay Apple or the Mountain Apple. This divine fruit can be found in many tropical territories such as South East Asia, South America and is very abundant in my region of the Caribbean due to its warmer climate, in which it thrives. They are in season several times a year depending on the country such as, May to June, August to September and/or November to December.\n\n\nWhen I was a little one, the pommerac tree that had originally been planted in my backyard for decades, unfortunately had to be cut down, as it began leaning with much instability, toward my home. I remember the day clearly. A sad one indeed, as I looked at the remains of its severed trunk, which now looked like a stool. The glorious tree was now reduced to a place to rest your rear end. My heart bled. \n\nAs time went on, I missed the fruit immensely, it one indeed one of my favourites. But one fine day my dad brought home a few. No I am not biased in the least of the quality of the fruits. My secret, I am immensely convinced, is that when I went to water it, while I watched it grow, I would sing to my tree. Indeed, I showered it not only with water, but love, affection and very lengthy encouragement speeches. The flowers are pink, almost fushia in colour and have beautiful,almost pointed elements, extending outwards, that come together to give it a brush-like appearance. When in season, the bright pink splashes give evidence that pommerac season has arrived and when they fall, they form a lovely pink carpet under the tree. It is an example of the eternal seductiveness of life - a proud assertion that a ray of beauty out-values all the utilities of the world.*\n\nThe fruit is a darker pink to the flowers, more maroon in colour depending on the level of ripeness of the fruit. It has a thin reddish-pink layer covering its exterior, protecting the white fibrous interior which surrounds a large seed. The texture is very similar to that of an apple, but when bitten, the texture is not as crunchy. It can be akin to something like that of a pear with its oblong shape. The taste is significantly different from both, but can be described as an infusion of the two. These can be used to treat conditions such as constipation, diabetes, coughs, fevers and headaches. They also are high in antioxidants like most fruits and contain a high water content. For many reasons. Not only due to the fact that countless animals die because of the irresponsibility of humans and the tradegy of overfishing, pollution and the many numerous threats they pose. But for another reason, it speaks to me.\n\n\nWe as children of God, can be said to be in this same position. Born in sin, we come into this world as defenseless creatures tangled entirely in our sin. The more we participate in the things that God hates, the more entangled we become. Till we become so wrapped up, we become trapped, unable to move. Exactly where the enemy likes to see us. Weighed down by the world - worries, fears, doubts, insecurities, depression, impulsivity and many others.\n\nThis poor turtle was probably swimming, caught unawares of the trap, he was going directly into. Many times we find ourselves swimming head first into the traps the enemy set for our destruction. We may feel that tug to swim another way but deny our convictions and keep going in the same direction anyways. The direction that leads to devastation and destruction. The overwhelming love that sent His own Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins, even though He didn’t deserve it. The love that took our sins selflessly and willingly. The love that doesn’t want to leave us in bondage. The love that doesn’t want to leave us entangled to die. For the times that strangers shared the view with me, we relished together in the dramatic display performed by the star of the show. At that wondrous moment, where the sun dips suddenly below the horizon, gasps in awe and acclaim resounds. Such a sight to behold. Interestingly enough, whenever the rays of the sun radiate its beams of sun shine all across the earth, it evokes awe, wonder and gratitude. It can be defined as a soul-awakening experience. It brings us back to the source. It not only has the capacity to stop us in our tracks and captivate our utmost attention, but redirects our focus to the Maker of beauty itself. What a beautiful thought !\n\n\nThe marvellous wonder of God’s creation can help us pause and reassess, what truly matters. Ultimately, it reminds us that there is a Creator behind the stunning entrance and exit of the day. He loves making His children smile. Can you believe that the One who so loved the world, He made it, just to redeem and restore it. He loves us beyond comprehension.
