Ad oggi, attraverso i suoi post e le sue mail, possiamo risalire solamente alle sue idee politiche, economiche e sociali, chiaramente impregnate dell'ideologia derivata dal movimento dei chyperpunks. Le sue idee, tuttavia, non hanno rilevato molto di se, facendo rimanere la sua identità ancora ignota. Dagli anni 80', i progetti che hanno cercato di realizzare un sistema in cui fosse possibile scambiarsi del valore in rete, senza la necessità di un intermediario, in modo anonimo, sono stati diversi. Molti di questi hanno poi creato i postulati per la realizzazioni di molti progetti attuali. Tuttavia nessuno concretamente, prima di Bitcoin, è riuscito a garantire e risolvere numerosi problemi correlati.\n\nNick Szabo è sicuramente uno dei principali driver di questa rivoluzione chyper. Infatti, il matematico e crittografo statunitense ha posto le basi, sia tecniche sia concettuali, fondamentali per sviluppare efficacemente protocolli contemporanei: l'idea di bene scarso, l'attribuzione di asset digitali a certificati di appartenenza, Il God Protocol, la realizzazione di contratti intelligenti e, infine,  \"bit gold\". Secondo molti, Szabo potrebbe essere il nome e cognome del nickname più famoso di sempre.\n\n\n# Perchè non è Nick Szabo?\nIl progetto di bit gold potrebbe assomigliare, per alcune sue caratteristiche, ad un primo tentativo di bitcoin. Infatti, il protocollo si basava sull'idea di: avere una rete di computer che si sfida, cercando di minare una challenge string e utilizzando una prova di lavoro determinata da una benchmark function (anche proof-of-work function). Una volta che la stringa sarebbe stata risolta, l'utente avrebbe dovuto registrare la soluzione all'interno della rete, nella quale un servizio di timestamping avrebbe certificato quando la prova di lavoro venisse svolta. Inoltre, la proprietà della stringa risolta, quindi della unità scarsa nel protocollo bit gold, sarebbe stata garantita da un sistema di chiavi pubbliche/private (lo stesso Szabo la definisce come \"unforgeable chain of title - chain of digital signatures - in the title registry\"). Ed infine, l'ultima stringa creata sarebbe stata utilizzata come challenge string in modo da creare una catena conseguenziale che legasse ogni unità alla precedente, in modo permanente.  Inoltre, il tutto veniva sarebbe stato svolto in una rete con un protocollo open-source e distribuito.\n\nPerchè allora il creatore di bit gold non potrebbe essere anche il creatore di Bitcoin?\n\nPersonalmente, analizzando come Szabo avrebbe cercato di risolvere alcuni limiti intrinsechi al protocollo, si può delineare come le soluzione proposte siano completamente discordanti con quelle realizzate da Satoshi Nakamoto.\n\n- *Come risolvere il problema del consenso distribuito?* In alcuni suoi progetti, Szabo vuole risolvere il problema del consenso e della sicurezza attraverso la creazione di un sottogruppo di servers (definito come property club), il quale diventa il garante ed il controllore del sistema. Infatti, affinché un dato venga concretamente inserito all'interno del registro distribuito, la maggioranza dei partecipanti avrebbe dovuto univocamente accettare la correttezza di quest'ultimo dato. Il meccanismo di consenso, quindi conseguentemente la procedura di voto, poteva essere determinata utilizzando la modalità \"un voto-un IP\".  Il consenso distribuito viene determinato dal \"Byzantine Quorum System\". Mentre, Satoshi risolve il processo in modalità completamente diverse: la creazione di valore, viene utilizzata come incentivo per garantire il network, e il garante diventa l'intera rete con l'aggiunta di un causale miner, che risolvendo prima degli altri la sfida posta, si occuperà di garantire la creazione del catena. Inoltre, il consenso distribuito è determinata utilizzando un meccanismo \"un-voto-una CPU\". L'incentivo, invece per il property club era una sorta \"Georgian Tax\", caratterizzata da principi da stabilire in seguito.\n\n\n- *Come risolvere il problema della fungibilità?* L'altro grande problema di bit gold riguarda la fungibilità delle unità prodotte. Tecnicamente, la benchmark function utilizzata per risolvere la challlenge string ha una difficoltà fissa nel tempo. Questa decisione era stata decisa perché il valore di ogni unità di bit gold avrebbe dovuto rispecchiare il lavoro svolto dal miner, certificato poi nel tempo attraverso il servizio di timestamping.  Tuttavia, il problema concreto era determinato dal un elemento prettamente esogeno: l'innovazione dei computer. Logicamente, dato che il parametro difficoltà sarebbe rimasto fisso nel tempo, man mano che la forza computazione progrediva, la quantità di bit gold sarebbe aumentata, inflazionandola, e contemporaneamente il valore per ogni unità sarebbe diminuito progressivamente. Szabo risolve questo procedimento ideando un ulteriore registro distribuito in cui, non definisce chiaramente, qualcuno avrebbe legato le varie unità più piccole per crearne una del valore valuto. Satoshi, invece, decide che la difficoltà nel protocollo sia sempre crescente, slegando il valore del unità al lavoro svolto, ma lasciando il suo valore soggetto alla domanda del asset digitale creato. Infatti, Satoshi decide di utilizzare la funzione unidirezionale SHA-256, che non è possibile quantificare in termini di valore.\n\n- *Come risolvere il problema di trasferimento di valore?* Szabo suggerisce la stessa soluzione del consenso distribuito: nel network, prima che una transazione venga effettuata, la maggioranza property club dovrà convalidare e verificare che tutti i dati siano idonei. Tuttavia, il crittografo non aveva valutato il problema chiamato \"the Sybil's Attack\": se il voto è determinato semplicemente dal accesso IP all'interno della rete, in cui gli utenti sono anonimi, un network malevolo potrebbe creare molti gemelli portando la maggioranza dalla sua parte, e quindi manomettendo la rete. Il grande problema del double-spending quindi non viene risolto.\n\n\nNonostante, personalmente, non penso che Szabo sia il creatore di Bitcoin, il suo contributo e le sue idee sono state fondamentali per la concettualizzazione del modello. Tra questi abbiamo deciso di porre alcune domande su alcuni temi ben precisi a Peter Todd.\n\n# Chi è Peter Todd\nAmericano, Developer Bitcoin, Crittografo e Bit-Avangelist. Peter è uno dei capi saldi del mondo Bitcoin dalle sue origini.\n\nDurante il suo panel, Peter ha cercato di spiegare una sua soluzione semi-trustless per il trasferimento di asset virtuali, attraverso i concetti di single-use-seal e proof-of-publication.\n\nIl single-use-seal è una modalità per evitare il problema di double spending. Per seal si intende un lucchetto crittografico. Questa tipologia di garanzia supporta due operazioni fondamentali:\n\n- Chiusura(l,m) → w1 – Dove l è il lucchetto sopra il messaggio m, producendo un witness (un mantenitore) del lucchetto.\n- Verifica (l, w1, m) → bool – dove il lucchetto L che ha chiuso il messaggio m con il witness w1.\nL’implementazione del sigle-use-seal è sicuro, se e solo se, sarà impossibile per un hacker di causare una funzione di verifica di ritorno verso due messaggi distinti, m e m’, applicando lo stesso seal. Ovvero, il lucchetto l è mono-direzionale verso il messaggio m. Tuttavia, è possibile applicare più witness allo stesso lucchetto crittografico.\n\nInoltre, il processo deve seguire altre due condizioni fondamentali:\n\n- Creazione(P) → l – dove il processo della generazione di un nuovo lucchetto è ancorato ad una public key P.\n- Chiusura (l,m,s) → w1 – dove il processo di chiusura del lucchetto sul messaggio m diviene autenticato dalla private key S valida per la public key P.\nNella seconda parte ha trattato della distinzione tra il trasferimento di asset divisibili e asset non divisibili, che invito i lettori ad approfondire sul suo blog.\n\nInoltre, per rendere l’implementazione scalabile e il meno trusty possibile, tale meccanismo può utilizzare la proof-of-publication su un sub-ledeger, come la Blockchain di Bitcoin.  Essendo semi-trustless il meccanismo, Peter ha concluso spiegando una possibile soluzione, basata sulla maggioranza dei witness, in cui se N su M ha pubblicato allora tale messaggio è valido, per limitare le possibili implicazioni negative riguardante il problema della censorship.\n\n# Domande a Peter Todd sull'inflazione\n\nJacopo Sesana (J.S.):  Peter ti è piaciuta la conferenza?\n\nPeter Todd (P.T.):  Si, molto. Non pensavo ci fosse così tanta gente interessata nell’ambito. Mi è solo dispiaciuto di non ricevere molto domande sul panel che ha fatto. Speravo ci fossero più conoscenza tra la platea della crittografia base. Non era facile quello che ho spiegato? (ridendo)\n\nJ.S. È la prima volta che venivi in Italia?\n\nP.T. Sono stato a Milano più volte. Ho partecipato ad alcuni Bitcoin Meetup organizzati da BlockchainLab.\n\nJ.S C’è molta dissonanza tra gli appassionati e critici riguardo a cosa davvero rappresenta Bitcoin. Secondo, potrà mai essere paragonato ad una moneta?\n\nP.T. Bitcoin è Bitcoin. Anche il suo valore non può essere paragonato ad una fiat currency. Niente di più, niente di meno. Penso che è una domanda a cui potremo rispondere tra almeno 100 anni. Adesso non siamo in grado.\n\nJ.S. In merito al tuo ultimo tweet, a proposito di futuro, pensi davvero che dovrebbe essere alterato l’algoritmo di Bitcoin, creando inflazione?\n\nP.T. Davvero ti cambia qualcosa che bitcoin sia inflazionato? Matematicamente, Bitcoin dovrà essere inflazionato, ipoteticamente all’1% fisso, per farlo funzionare nel futuro. Non c’è altra soluzione per dare incentivi ai miners di non uscire dalla chain. Inoltre, questo potrà essere un modo per non far alzare troppo le fees nel futuro. Tuttavia, non risolve a pieno il problema (delle fees). Bisogna lavorare con l’idea di far funzionare il sistema nel futuro, non nell’immediato.\n\nJ.S: Pensi sia l’unico modo per non far uscire i miners?\n\nP.T: I miners sono avidi. Se non avranno più incentivi per utilizzare potenza di calcolo, sprecare risorse, troveranno altri modo per guadagnare. Se non troveranno più profittevole la catena, si rischia il collasso del sistema distribuito e decentralizzato. Non ci sono altre soluzioni.
