titleWhat should i do with my bitcoins before august 1st ?
body## What is going to happen on august 1st ? The bitcoin blockchain is going to split between the original Bitcoin (XBT) that will adopt SegWit 2x (Segregation witness) and BIP148 (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 148) and a new bitcoin : Bitcoin Cash (BCH). For XBT, that will solve some of the problems of bitcoins (mostly time of bitcoins transactions). But things are very uncertain for Bitcoin right now. Around 80% of people (this is my own gessing) are backing the Bitcoin Core team wich is behind XBT. But the Chineese group ViaBTC (mostly Bitmain) have decided to make a hard fork that will led to BCH. If you own bitcoins you must know that there's a very high chance that the bitcoin (XBT) price will go down for a while after the split. We are in unknown territorry here, and investers, in general, don't like uncertainty... So (i may be wrong) but i gess it is probably going down for a while then it will start to rise again. So what should you do if you have bitcoins ? ## The safest option : transfer your funds to a solid ledger Like Trezor or Ledger Nano S. Your funds will be safe there. Ledger has already announced that they will keep XBT for sure and depending of what is going to happen after august 1st, [they'll propose tools to go for the BCH](https://blog.ledger.co/securing-your-free-bitcoin-cash-stash-d50aff765688) (if users want to). ## Second option : keep your bitcoins on a wallet where you own the private keys Typically this means NOT COINBASE guys ! They've already said it in a mailing to their customers (see capture below), they support XBT only : ![coinbase-mailing.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmcGMT11RoL9TYQAqDNupHVaTK76pRynnJeW4hoRQvdZD8/coinbase-mailing.jpg) If you don't know what private keys are, [have a look at this](http://bitzuma.com/posts/six-things-bitcoin-users-should-know-about-private-keys/), then go to your account settings to see if you have access to it. ## Third option : cash out in your fiat currency Another option is to cash out all your bitcoins for your own currency. Bitcoin is quite high right now so you'lI get a good price (if you didn't buy when it was high !). And if bitcoin goes down (even just a bit) after the split you may be able to get more bitcoins and so when it goes back up make some profit. I believe bitcoin is going to fall a bit after the split, but i don't know in what amount and let things be clear this is MY OWN PERSONNAL GUESS. ## If you like taking risks You can choose a wallet that will support both XBT and BCH. For instance, for Europeans, [Kraken](http://www.kraken.com) [will support both blockchains after the split](http://blog.kraken.com/post/1150/bitcoin-cash-and-a-critical-alert-for-bitcoin-margin-traders/). So you'll end up (if everything goes well) with your amount of XBT AND the same amount of BCH (coming out of thin air !!). It will probably worth nothing or not much as nearly everyone is backing up the "traditional branch", but hey who knows ? It may also be worth something one day depending on what is going to happen. For users with Ledger hardware, i also suggest you [take a close look at this](https://blog.ledger.co/securing-your-free-bitcoin-cash-stash-d50aff765688] if you want to get your bitcoin cash stash ! Nice day to you all and hope that the XBT will stay strong ! Nevil

bodyhi nevil thanks for sharing. I have sent in a second time 52sbd once the deposit/withdrawn bottoms were unlocked... thinking that once I was sending those money maybe I was unlocking the blocked 514sbd sent the week before. Weird the 52 were blocked too. The bottoms again unavailable for deposit or withdrawn so I have written a ticket to complaint about it. Time 1 or 2 days I got the 52 sbd deposited on my account. I have no idea why but I am still waiting for the 514 sbd

bodywelcome fellow animator ! I run [shroomstudio](http://shroomstudio.com) CHECK us OUT...yeah it's the heat that's the problem ! We talked about putting a couple of our old machines out to pasture with mining.. we use Dell Workstations with Xeons and I'm sure the GFX cards in them are still up to the job.. I think the nicehash is a really interesting way of using your machine for obtaining bitcoin without hashing your socks off.. agree, I think your $2 per day will be worth quite a bit more in the future.. best of luck to you !!

bodyHi @outerground, you're partialy right. As you noticed, my graphic card is far from being "the latest big thing !". I use this computer to do 3D renderings for clients. It's been a long time that the whole computer as been amortized. So all the money i get is extra-money. I've settled this last year, and all the earning covered more than the price of the machine at the time (the bitcoin was 400$ at the time). All in all it has been more than profitable for me. Plus i keep the bitcoins, as explained. To be true, i also didn't count the extra power needed to make these calculations. But it's still profitable. My MSi graphic card works at 70% of power, 80°C top since february 2016. The real problem is the heat it produces while working...

bodynice article and good luck with mining your hashes.. just a word of wisdom ! f you have a nice machine, with i7 & a good GFX card, be mindful, you do risk wearing out your kit pretty quickly and remember how much it cost to buy that slinky laptop in the first place.. even at $2 per day, how long is your laptop going to last ? you could earn $2 by writing a nice article, and upvoting, commenting and posting here on steemit. your pc would thank you and be taking it easy at the same time. using a browser is a piece of cake for a computer !!

titleHow to earn some cash while doing nothing (part 3)?
body![one_us_dollar.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmTm4sC8W55At52oPWCgvVCJXoaAQcYoJEGmJsRzfn5NhF/one_us_dollar.jpg) In my previous episodes we learned [how to make some cash with our free space on a computer's hard drive](https://steemit.com/earn/@nevil/how-to-earn-some-cash-while-doing-nothing), and how to [make our computer work for us](https://steemit.com/money/@nevil/how-to-earn-some-cash-while-doing-nothing-part-2)... Today, as promissed, we're going to have a look at the **best way to earn money with our computer** and this implies computer processor and mostly graphic cards processor... # OK, So How to do this ? First of, this article will be usefull for you if you have: 1. a good computer processor (this means at least a core i7) 1. and/or a good graphic card (Geforce GTX 970 or above, AMD RX 470 and above) Lot of people have pretty decent machines and don't use them at their maximum capacity. My articles aim at making the best out of these machines. Before you start, if you're not sure with the material installed in your Desktop machine, [you can check this list](https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/#/equipment) it will tell you what you can expect from your graphic card. Or you can also [check this one](https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc), it is more complex but more precise. Again don't expect to become millionaires but you're going to earn a little bit of cash while doing... nothing, so it's worth it ! # Install the software For this tutorial you'll need only two things : * A bitcoin address (in order to get paid !). This is very very easy to do : install **[copay](https://copay.io)**, or **[jaxx](https://jaxx.io)** on your mobile phone and you're done ! If you ask me i'll go for Jaxx because it works also on desktop and tablet, but you're free to use whatever wallet you like ! * The [NiceHash software](https://www.nicehash.com/?p=gstarted#seller). This is the easiest software i've found in all my crypto-currency wanderings. ![nicehash-software.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWksZUMzUXC4w7TMtGGeXB8dARbWESX9mh8TsaiaBjiKm/nicehash-software.jpg) Once you've downloaded the NiceHash software, install it on your computer, then start a precise benchmark (the benchmark button on the right). ![NiceHash-interface.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPCqVrYwZmR6yrom5iznPVRmBj2gUyhkio9bRFLSryLr3/NiceHash-interface.jpg) Check that both your core processor and your graphic card are selected, and that all algorythms are checked too. The precise benchmark will take a bit of time. It's going to test different algorythms on your computer. ![NiceHash-precise-test.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUa37se7Y5Mbaa2bBVsSFQmSw6FSPFhvgmB2dCeMiVbcc/NiceHash-precise-test.jpg) Then we're going to choose the most profitable algorythm, depending on your hardware. Select your core processor first and check what is the best algorythm for it (the one that has the best score in mBTC/day column). For the core processor, you probably only have one option: the Crypto Night algorythm. Then select your graphic card and look for the two or three algorythms with the best score in mBTC/day column. Note them on a piece of paper and close this benchmark test panel. Go to the settings. In the general panel, put your BTC address from your wallet (see above). ![NiceHash-general.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmT2Vp38RVKRpKEhERJNyQSThNAGiBfn53ko1yyRp5bmYy/NiceHash-general.jpg) Then go to the devices/algorythms panel. Here, for each of your devices you're going to select the best two or three algorythms (check the checkboxes !). ![NiceHash-Algorythms.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmRDveEZwSZHubu7CgQXz6gu69cvqmTZrKVPK45JzZ1QVh/NiceHash-Algorythms.jpg) Then save and close the settings panel. # Are you ready ? Now, you only have to click on the **start button** and your computer is going to start earning money for you. ![NiceHash-steady.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXe8oCAkYdonuaDJZb77ZJ3sefTVYtyevTBKtjEjA1Qza/NiceHash-steady.jpg) As you can see, i reach a decent 1.9 to 2.5$/day depending on the bitcoin price. Just for one graphic card. Check your desktop tower motherboard. If you have a PCI-e x16 extra slot, you might want to buy another graphic card (if you can find one... these days, all graphic cards are sucked out by miners like... YOU!). If you have a small PCI connector [you'll probably need to buy a riser](https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_4_3?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pci+riser&sprefix=PCI%2Caps%2C202&crid=2DLF7NM5S655E). What is really cool with NiceHash is that you get payed in bitcoins. You do not mine crypto-currencies directly. Actualy you're selling your computation power to NiceHash. Then NiceHash sells this hashing power to people who would like to mine crypto-currencies. So why is this good to be payed in bitcoins? Because, the bitcoin is still going UP, even if it has a lot of technical problems compared to ethereum, it is still going to grow. Some experts expect it to reach 5000$ in the next 2 to 4 years. Some dreamers even expect it to reach 10 000$ (and who knows?). So if you keep these bitcoins, chances are they'll grow in value with time and this all thing may become very profitable to you if you do not spend your bitcoins. Another cool thing is that if you checked several algorythms, NiceHash will automatically select the most profitable for you at the moment. It will switch automatically to optimise your profits depending of your benchmark results (that's why you need to do a precise benchmark instead of a standard one). If you can, keep your bitcoins for a minimum of two years. Then you'll thank me for writing this article (at least i hope so)... Last thing, if you have an NVIDIA graphic card you **need to check the P0 state option in the settings**. Seriously, CHECK IT, you'll get a boost in your performances. ![NiceHash-P0-State.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUPU7jYABbC7CeLGgjmuCbb6YRsmrnrciV1u8RSroPRuU/NiceHash-P0-State.jpg) I really hope you enjoyed this article, if you do, you know what to do right? It's just under this article, this small blue round dot with a up arrow... It screams "Push me! Push me!...". In any case, i wish you an excellent day, and hope to come back with some more interesting articles in the next weeks... In the meanwhile, don't hesitate to leave comments good or bad, i'll try to answer them the best i can... **Nevil** ### Acknoledgements *One dollar picture : credit : commons.wikimedia.org, user : Mattes*

bodyPlease actually take the time to read my response. I am not even sure you actually took the time to read the original blog to understand it. Why do I say that. Because I even addressed the some of the very points you made. For example, I said in the original blog: "But that is unlikely to be the case as over time because it gets more difficult to mine as time progresses and in two years, we have no idea what the US dollar price will be per bitcoin or ethereum." Clearly that comment already acknowledged that I would not see the high figures. I respect you and I am taking the time to address each point you bring up. Please have the courtesy to do that with the ones you converse with. You aren't rude. But you have to understand that because you don't seem to be reading what is actually said. You keep on repeating yourself and I am forced to repeat my response as I try to address each of the specific points you bring up. You said "But i really think you wont get your 300% return. Mining the big players (btc, eth) is becoming harder and harder with the increase of difficulty, so with the same hashing power, your income is going to decrease, and with the PoS ethereum mining is going to be dead soon. " My response was (unchanged quote) "So you are telling me that a $65 investment that may yield me hundreds of dollars is a bad? Now I am assuming that the above figures won't hold up and I won't actually get the number I cited, But even at $200, that is over a 300% return." "Also, I can change my mining allocation at any time. If I like, I can have Genesis Mining do 100% bitcoin, no additional cost. What is mined gets sent directly to my wallet, no conversion needed or any extra procedures. " Additionally, I just noticed that I can have Genesis mine steem. And I might just choose that option. Below is a screen shot of my choices. ![gm1.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQKh6NjLWAZNpYKd7EDv5o13Cnyp3yX31KfTxiLFiDUTm/gm1.jpg) You said "I really think it's more profitable to invest directly in cryptos rather than mining. Yesterday i bought some litecoins when i knew they got on Bitstamp at 34.6 and they are nearly at 40 already. But hey, maybe you're going to prove me wrong ;) I hope so !" My response (unchanged quote) "But neither you nor I know exactly what will happen. I invest in all sorts of crypto directly by buying it off of coinbase. That is my main source of crypto. Coinbase does not trade in steem. Genesis doesn't do steem either. I think that addresses all the points you brought up. Thanks for reading." So I hope you can see how I have answered your points and it seems you are either ignoring them or simply didn't really read my response to see that your point was address, even when it agreed with you. Finally, my last comment. The point of this blog was to shows others the actual experience of someone trying out contract mining and also to test Genesis Mining itself. Thus the value I am trying to give readers is information so that they may decide for themselves whether it is for them. This is not a right or wrong issue or my way is better then your way. I hope you have a better understanding of this blog.

bodySorry @bonsaitreehouse, i didn't mean to be rude... Or if i was and i apologise for that. But i really think you wont get your 300% return. Mining the big players (btc, eth) is becoming harder and harder with the increase of difficulty, so with the same hashing power, your income is going to decrease, and with the PoS ethereum mining is going to be dead soon. Mining smaller coins may be interested though as they may have a rise in their price, but it is a bet on the future, and you have to pick the good one. (I didn't chack what alt-coins you could mine with genesis rentals...) I really think it's more profitable to invest directly in cryptos rather than mining. Yesterday i bought some litecoins when i knew they got on Bitstamp at 34.6 and they are nearly at 40 already. But hey, maybe you're going to prove me wrong ;) I hope so ! Lot of people have good material in their PC and it just sits there doing nothing. Lot of Gamers have excellent graphic cards that could generate money and they don't. That was my intend. To get the most of what you ALREADY have and do not exploit. 108€ for renting 100Gigs for a year (it's about 120$) is not bad i think considering that it is space you do not use and costs you nothing (i've recycled a 1To hard drive that was doing nothing just for that on an old computer)... And with a core i7 processor alone (that lot of people have!) you can generate 0,36 € to 0,45€ a day depending of the model. You already have it, you don't exploit it's computation power. You're right on cost to exchange the storj coin and the fees to exchange money from accounts. true. But i believe in the storj project, and i really think that it's going up (it already went from 0.15 to 1.5$)... But true it's a bet. "body": "Sorry @bonsaitreehouse, i didn't mean to be rude... (I didn't chack what alt-coins you could mine with genesis rentals...)\nI really think it's more profitable to invest directly in cryptos rather than mining. Yesterday i bought some litecoins when i knew they got on Bitstamp at 34.6 and they are nearly at 40 already. But hey, maybe you're going to prove me wrong ;) I hope so !\n\nLot of people have good material in their PC and it just sits there doing nothing. You already have it, you don't exploit it's computation power.\n\nYou're right on cost to exchange the storj coin and the fees to exchange money from accounts. true. But i believe in the storj project, and i really think that it's going up (it already went from 0.15 to 1.5$)... But true it's a bet.\n\nI'm going to follow you and i really hope you'll prove me wrong ;)\n\nHave a very nice day @bonsaitreehouse !",
