      "body": "**President Starts a War? Congress Yawns. Threatens to End One? Condemnation!**\nBy Rep. Ron Paul  Global Research, February 12, 2019\nThe Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity 11 February 2019\n\nhttps://www.globalresearch.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/washington-400x216.jpg\n\nLast week’s bipartisan Senate vote to rebuke President Trump for his decision to remove troops from Syria and Afghanistan unfortunately tells us a lot about what is wrong with Washington, DC. While the two parties loudly bicker about minor issues, when it comes to matters like endless wars overseas they enthusiastically join together. With few exceptions, Republicans and Democrats lined up to admonish the president for even suggesting that it’s time for US troops to come home from Afghanistan and Syria.\n\nThe amendment, proposed by the Senate Majority Leader and passed overwhelmingly by both parties, warns that a\n\n“precipitous withdrawal of United States forces from the on-going fight…in Syria and Afghanistan, could allow terrorists to regroup.”\n\nAs one opponent of the amendment correctly pointed out, a withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan is hardly “precipitous” since they’ve been there for nearly 18 years! And with al-Qaeda and ISIS largely defeated in Syria a withdrawal from that country would hardly be “precipitous” after almost five years of unauthorized US military action.\n\nSenators supporting the rebuke claim that US troops cannot leave until every last ISIS fighter is killed or captured. This is obviously a false argument. Al-Qaeda and ISIS did not emerge in Iraq because US troops left the country – they emerged because the US was in the country in the first place. Where was al-Qaeda in Iraq before the 2003 US invasion the neocons lied us into? There weren’t any.\n\nPresident Trump: Toss Your Generals’ War Escalation Plans in the Trash\nUS troops occupying Iraqi territory was, however, a huge incentive for Iraqis to join a resistance movement. Similarly, US intervention in Syria beginning under the Obama Administration contributed to the growth of terrorist groups in that country.\n\nWe know that US invasion and occupation provides the best recruiting tools for terrorists, including suicide terrorists. So how does it make sense that keeping troops in these countries in any way contributes to the elimination of terrorism? As to the “vacuum” created in Syria when US troops pull out, how about allowing the government of Syria to take care of the problem? After all, it’s their country and they’ve been fighting ISIS and al-Qaeda since the US helped launch the “regime change” in 2011. Despite what you might hear in the US mainstream media, it’s Syria along with its allies that has done most of the fighting against these groups and it makes no sense that they would allow them to return.\n\nCongress has the Constitutional responsibility and obligation to declare war, but this has been ignored for decades. The president bombs far-off lands and even sends troops to fight in and occupy foreign territory and Congress doesn’t say a word. But if a president dares seek to end a war suddenly the sleeping Congressional giant awakens!\n\nI’ve spent many years opposing Executive branch over-reach in matters where the president has no Constitutional authority, but when it comes to decisions on where to deploy or re-deploy troops once in battle it is clear that the Constitution grants that authority to the commander-in-chief. The real question we need to ask is why is Congress so quick to anger when the president finally seeks to end the longest war in US history?\n\n*\n\nNote to readers: please click the share buttons below. Oxfam has just issued a brand new report on global inequality, and what they have discovered is making headlines all over the globe.  The rich just keep getting richer, and meanwhile the slice of the pie owned by the poor just keeps getting smaller.  Today, almost half the world lives on less than $5.50 a day, and approximately 795 million people “do not have enough food”.  And even in a “wealthy country” like the United States, the gap between the rich and the poor is the largest that it has been since the 1920s, and more than half a million Americans are homeless right now.       "body": "**Smart speakers raise a number of privacy questions, which owners are choosing to just shrug off.**\nIf you find always-listening smart devices creepy, but bought an Amazon Echo anyway, you’re not alone. A recent study from researchers at the University of Michigan found that people who own smart speakers are aware of the risks, but feel resigned to the idea that the erosion of privacy is now a fact of life.\n\nhttps://video-images.vice.com/articles/5bfc4fda24a5e900066afbaf/lede/1543262222078-alexa-amazon-cortana-717237.jpeg?crop=1xw%3A0.84375xh%3Bcenter%2Ccenter&resize=1250%3A*\n\n“What was really concerning to me was this idea that ‘it’s just a little bit more info you give Google or Amazon, and they already know a lot about you, so how is that bad?’” said Florian Schaub, an assistant professor in the University of Michigan School of Information and a co-author of the study. “It’s representative of this constant erosion of what privacy means and what our privacy expectations are.”\n\nSmart home devices—like internet-connected speakers, TVs, and microwaves—have been involved in multiple privacy scandals. This year, a couple’s private conversation was recorded by their smart speaker and then sent to a random contact. In 2015, people discovered that a buried line in the privacy policy for Samsung’s smart TVs meant that everything you say could be captured and sent to a third party. Like all internet-connected tech, such devices are also susceptible to data breaches or hacks.\n\nYet despite knowledge of these risks, many people say they’re resigned to the idea that we’re going to be spied on and there’s nothing we can do about it.\n\nThis kind of privacy nihilism isn’t new, and we’ve long understood that while people say they value privacy, they often act in ways that undermine their privacy protections (like not changing their password, for example). But Schaub and his colleagues wanted to investigate how this played out with internet-connected, voice-enabled speakers, like the Amazon Echo, in particular. Schaub told me they were curious if people’s behavior with the device might reveal a more conscious effort to preserve privacy.\n\nThe researchers interviewed 17 smart speaker users and 17 people who deliberately had not bought a smart speaker yet, and had the smart speaker users keep a weekly log of how they used the device. Schaub and his team found that speaker owners weren’t bothering to take steps to protect their privacy. Many devices have a mute button that allows the user to turn off the microphone, for example, but the researchers found most users had never used it.\n\nIt was also rare for users to go through their activity logs, where they can review and delete recordings. Instead of using this feature to protect personal privacy, the researchers found users were actually using it to spy on housesitters and babysitters.\n\nSmart speaker makers like Amazon say the devices only record after they hear a special “wake word” (like “Alexa” or “Hey, Google”), something many users said gives them peace of mind. But Schaub said this requires us to deeply trust the companies we buy the devices from.\n\n“We really have to trust Google and Amazon that they respect people’s privacy and adhere to what they’re describing,” Schaub said. “It’s still a fact that you are putting a live microphone into your home and your intimate spaces, and it’s software that decides whether it’s recording with a trigger word or all the time.”\n\nDevice functions with huge privacy implications could change over time, Schaub said, and users might not always be up to date on the latest changes.\n\nSchaub said he found the results of the study concerning, particularly the fact that many users seemed apathetic to the idea of companies getting more information about their private lives—if we’re fine with the constant erosion of our privacy, it might no longer exist one day.\n\nIf users were more demanding of privacy protections, Schaub said, a few simple changes to the technology could be made to improve user’s privacy without having to give up convenience. Let me begin by stating that I have been doing work with Metaphysical topics for many years now.       "body": "![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNykZE5XRwRNJmGTSwQva2T7c2PVah7erZ9QS8KoUVSPm/image.png)\nhttp://www.phillytrib.com/news/tyler-perry-announces-civil-suit-against-former-deputy-relating-to/article_b4d75119-4f76-5728-9eba-fa67d8df40a7.html\nSandra Gonzalez and Keith Allen\nFilmmaker Tyler Perry and civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump have announced the filing of a wrongful death lawsuit against a former sheriff's deputy who they believe may be responsible for the disappearance of two men nearly fifteen years ago.\n\nThe last known whereabouts of Felipe Santos and Terrance Williams, who disappeared in 2003 and 2004 respectively, was in North Naples, FL with former Collier County Sheriff's Deputy Steven Calkins, Crump said.\n\nSantos was arrested by Calkins and placed in his patrol car after a fender bender.\n\nWilliams was pulled over for unknown reasons and taken into custody by Calkins after failing to show his driver's license and registration.\n\nSantos and Williams' remains were never discovered.\n\nWilliams' estate filed suit last week, accusing Calkins of wrongful death.\n\nAccording to the suit, Calkins was later fired from his job with the Collier County Sheriff's Department for giving conflicting statements during the missing persons investigations but no charges were ever filed.\n\nCalkins is believed to currently be living in Iowa, the suit said.\n\nAn attorney working on the case at Crump's office said he was unaware whether Calkins has retained counsel yet.\n\nA message left by CNN at a phone number believed to be associated with Calkins was unreturned.\n\nAt a Tuesday morning press conference, Crump said he will subpoena Calkins and wants to bring the case in front of a jury in Collier County.\n\nPerry also announced he was offering $200,000 for information leading to the conviction of \"the person\" who they believe to be the culprit in the disappearances.\n\nPerry previously offered $100,000 for pertinent information.\n\n\"I don't know how you can sit and not be upset that these two people, black, white, Mexican, it doesn't even matter, would be put in the back of a sheriff's deputy's car, somebody we are supposed to trust,\" Perry said. \"They're put in the back of the car, they disappear, and they haven't been seen for 14 years. I don't know anyone who that would not move unless you have a heart of stone.\"\n\nPerry also thanked the Collier County Sheriff's Office for their assistance and participation in the ongoing investigation.\n\nCrump said he hopes the civil suit can lead to a renewed collection of evidence that could lead to the filing of criminal charges in this case.\n\nIn a statement, the Collier County Sheriff's Office said it \"continues to be committed\" to investigating the disappearances of Williams and Santos.\n\n\"We thank our community which has been working this case together with us for years and for providing numerous tips and leads to investigators,\" Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. \"We also thank actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry for continuing to raise public awareness about these local cases and keeping them in the national spotlight.\" -- (CNN)",

This realization gives us extraordinary power.\n\n\nBased on what we know about the brain, mind, and consciousness, most of our decisions are made without conscious thought, that is, we are driven by low-level mental activity which happens automatically. This level of thinking is the product of the subconscious mind.\n\n“Contrary to what most of us would like to believe, decision-making may be a process handled to a large extent by unconscious mental activity. A team of scientists has unraveled how the brain actually unconsciously prepares our decisions. “Many processes in the brain occur automatically and without involvement of our consciousness. But there a great deal of other things all around us which interfere with our subconscious programming on a daily basis.\n\n**1.) Beauty Programming** – In 2017, Forbes magazine estimated that the beauty industry is worth nearly half a trillion dollars a year in the U.S. The industry is so lucrative because of how body image is used to manipulate people and their sexual identities, especially women. An ideal, largely unattainable representation of beauty is projected throughout our culture, causing a major disruption to self-identity. Over-sexualization of even the youngest members of society is everywhere.\n\n\n**2.) Violence Programming** – This one is everywhere, from the nightly news to the vast majority of television shows and movies, and even throughout the music industry. Violence is presented as the solution to any problem, darkly coloring the subconscious mind with images of death, torture, fighting, destruction, war and violence against nature.\n\n“Have you ever noticed how television and print media will scream themselves hoarse in news documentaries, editorials and heavy analytical pieces about ‘rising pornography, crime, violence, gunplay’, etc? And yet in the same TV Guide announcing the latest special on ‘The Crisis of Sex and Violence’ will appear an advertisement for Miami Vice, the ‘show that brings you the action and excitement you’ve come to expect’, etc. Or your newspaper will condemn sex and violence in the loftiest terms but there in the entertainment section is a half-page advertisement for a new ‘action’ movie accompanied by a photo of women in string bikinis and high heels fondling automatic pistols and machine-guns.” Michael A. Appearing throughout entertainment media, the spiritual symbols of the occult present a constant reminder that dark forces are at play in our world. They trigger the deeply subconscious fear of death, which is thought to be the main driver of all human behavior, as well as submissiveness to base level forces, such as fear, greed, and lust.\n\n“The themes are applied in so many productions that it utterly defies coincidence, which means there must be some greater unifying message or purpose to it all. The government is pretty much always engaging in scandal, murder, corruption and every other evil things, while, again, presenting itself as an organization that brings justice and equity to our world.\n\n**5.) Victim Consciousness** – If you believe you are a victim, then you also believe that you have no control over your choices and fate. Church and state love for people to play the role of victim, because they know it leaves a power vacuum in one’s life, causing them to look outwardly for direction, while giving up their power.\n\nFinal Thoughts\nThe subconscious mind doesn’t speak the same language as the conscious mind.
