| body | >"Hi there! After your constant talk of Blockchain and bitcoin, we've decided to follow in your footsteps ... we've started reading about it, but there's a lot to wrap our heads around and we'd rather avoid making any silly mistakes if possible. So, we ask you ... do you maybe have any advice for absolute beginners? Which exchange platform to use? What to read and where? Where to best get info on icos? Keep a private wallet or a public one? Anything else we should think about or read about or learn about? …” Image Source: David Iskander on Unsplash My main advice to absolute beginners is don’t let the amount of information out there throw you. There’s a lot of it and the idea of operating in a space with very little certainty and more information than one human can absorb can be overwhelming at first. One important question which may narrow down your reading list is - why am I doing this? What is my objective, right now? (leave room for your objective to change over time) defining your objective will make it easier to search for solutions. Later, when unsure about a certain decision - go back to your objective, check in with yourself if it is being served. ## Which exchange platform to use? ## This probably deserves it’s own dedicated article, and as with every other question, the answer always starts with “it depends”. In the interest of conciseness, here’s my list of top criteria to consider when choosing an exchange: __Funding Options.__ You should use an exchange platform which accepts the currency you want to trade in. So, if you’re starting off with Thai Baht, you may find it the easiest to sign up for an exchange that accepts that as a funding method. This makes things a bit less complicated for you to begin with, so you don’t have to deal with conversions too much. __Withdrawal Fees__. Check what is it going to cost to get your cryptocurrency of choice _off the platform_ and into your wallet. This is a bit trickier as many exchanges don’t make this information very easily available. What I often end up doing is going through the signup process and creating a user account on a new exchange I’m looking into, but, without going through any verifications or funding, first find the withdrawal page and see if I can figure out what the fees are for the cryptocurrency I plan to be trading on the platform. Same goes for fiat - check what is the withdrawal fee for cash back into your bank account. That being said do consider if you’re making a long term buy, you may not use the same exchange to sell back into fiat when the time comes (you may choose to buy some bitcoin with Thai Baht on one exchange, then later buy some Ethereum with your bitcoin on another, and eventually cash out on your profits on a different platform altogether - making your profit in EUR or USD for example). So, for the time being we are checking what is it going to cost to make your first withdrawal. __Trading Fees.__ What is the additional cost for every exchange you make? I’ve noticed somewhat of a “standard” 0.1-0.25% fee on top of trades in most exchanges I use. Here’s an article I found comparing [Crypto Exchanges in Thailand](https://medium.com/@thaicryptocoin/buying-crypto-coin-in-thailand-8d9174391810), but I would also recommend doing your own research. My personal go to’s are Kraken & Bittrex with an occasional visit on Cryptopia and HitBTC. __Consider Bitcon ATM’s.__ If you happen to live in (or near) a city with a bitcoin ATM, consider making a pilgrimage to that location for your crypto purchases. You’ll be charged a higher fee for the transaction but that may well be worth your privacy and bank account not being associated with a crypto purchase, even if it’s not (yet) regulated by your country of residence. [Coin ATM Radar](https://coinatmradar.com/) can help you find an ATM near you :) ## What to read and where? ## I suppose this is the trickiest part. Reading crypto often means falling into a rabbit hole of information which can take hours to days to weeks to come out of. Personally, I follow the subreddits of all the altcoins / crypto projects I’m interested in and regularly check in on Steemit for Trending, Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency posts. If I feel like a bit of mainstream, light reading, I go to Coin Desk. I personally don’t follow any individual bloggers or youtubers but I have heard from some folks it’s been very helpful to follow a “one voice” for advice. I Googled “who to follow in Cryptocurrency” and [here is just one of the results](https://cryptoclarified.com/2018/01/08/the-top-25-cryptocurrency-traders-to-follow-2018/). ## Where to get info on ICOs? ## To find out about the best ICOs what you really need is a friend who’s regularly investing in ICOs and is connected to all those secret groups who collaborate and share resources on both researching new ICOs as well as pre-sale investment. It’s my opinion that the “big money making” part of ICOs is no longer available to the common person with little investment background. That being said, I personally still make a point from occasionally taking a few hours to take a deep dive into [one of the ICO listing sites](https://hackernoon.com/top-10-ico-listing-sites-ico-alert-679191242da0), to see if there’s a project I like enough to throw some money at. Here’s a decent list of [criteria to consider](https://cryptopotato.com/10-keys-evaluating-initial-coin-offering-ico-investments/) when thinking of making an investment in an ICO. I try to follow most with emphasis on team composition, analysis of the roadmap and actually reading the white paper in full. I follow the same advice I once received from an investment expert about buying real estate, who suggested the first purchase should be a home I can see myself living in. I try to apply that to my crypto portfolio as much as I can. ## What type of wallet should I use? ## Use a wallet that’s easy to back up and difficult to get access to, depending on your own lifestyle. At the bottom of my “types of wallets I’d use” list is the web wallet / hosted wallet - basically anything which doesn’t let you have your private keys. As long as you do have your private key (and your own method of keeping them safe), the rest depends on how often and in what circumstances you think you’ll use your wallet. __Paper wallet__ - simple to use, very secure, good for long term (you can only withdraw once) Mobile wallet on an unused smartphone - install a mobile wallet on an old phone you don’t use anymore and you have a poor man’s hardware wallet. __Hardware wallet__ - more secure than a phone / desktop app, but isn’t free and if you ask me not really necessary in light of all the other options (though I do own one!) __Mobile / Desktop / Browser add-on Wallet__ - simplest to use and most accessible, especially for “early days” of crypto purchases. _Remember_ - You can always move your crypto assets from one wallet to another with a tap of an index finger! Don’t let your memories of switching bank accounts distort your perception of moving crypto around ;) More on [choosing crypto wallets](https://code.likeagirl.io/intro-to-crypto-wallet-types-risks-f9003e44d38d).
Well, I hope this has been helpful. "body": ">\"Hi there! \nWhich exchange platform to use? \nWhat to read and where? \nWhere to best get info on icos? \nKeep a private wallet or a public one? \nAnything else we should think about or read about or learn about? …”\n\n\nImage Source: David Iskander on Unsplash\n\nMy main advice to absolute beginners is don’t let the amount of information out there throw you. There’s a lot of it and the idea of operating in a space with very little certainty and more information than one human can absorb can be overwhelming at first. \n\nOne important question which may narrow down your reading list is - why am I doing this? What is my objective, right now? (leave room for your objective to change over time) defining your objective will make it easier to search for solutions. Later, when unsure about a certain decision - go back to your objective, check in with yourself if it is being served. \n\n## Which exchange platform to use? ##\nThis probably deserves it’s own dedicated article, and as with every other question, the answer always starts with “it depends”. In the interest of conciseness, here’s my list of top criteria to consider when choosing an exchange: \n\n__Funding Options.__ You should use an exchange platform which accepts the currency you want to trade in. So, if you’re starting off with Thai Baht, you may find it the easiest to sign up for an exchange that accepts that as a funding method. This makes things a bit less complicated for you to begin with, so you don’t have to deal with conversions too much. \n\n__Withdrawal Fees__. Check what is it going to cost to get your cryptocurrency of choice _off the platform_ and into your wallet. This is a bit trickier as many exchanges don’t make this information very easily available. What I often end up doing is going through the signup process and creating a user account on a new exchange I’m looking into, but, without going through any verifications or funding, first find the withdrawal page and see if I can figure out what the fees are for the cryptocurrency I plan to be trading on the platform.\n\nSame goes for fiat - check what is the withdrawal fee for cash back into your bank account. \n\n__Trading Fees.__ What is the additional cost for every exchange you make? I’ve noticed somewhat of a “standard” 0.1-0.25% fee on top of trades in most exchanges I use. \n\nHere’s an article I found comparing [Crypto Exchanges in Thailand](https://medium.com/@thaicryptocoin/buying-crypto-coin-in-thailand-8d9174391810), but I would also recommend doing your own research. \nMy personal go to’s are Kraken & Bittrex with an occasional visit on Cryptopia and HitBTC. \n\n__Consider Bitcon ATM’s.__ If you happen to live in (or near) a city with a bitcoin ATM, consider making a pilgrimage to that location for your crypto purchases. You’ll be charged a higher fee for the transaction but that may well be worth your privacy and bank account not being associated with a crypto purchase, even if it’s not (yet) regulated by your country of residence. [Coin ATM Radar](https://coinatmradar.com/) can help you find an ATM near you :) \n\n## What to read and where? ##\nI suppose this is the trickiest part. \n\n## Where to get info on ICOs? ##\nTo find out about the best ICOs what you really need is a friend who’s regularly investing in ICOs and is connected to all those secret groups who collaborate and share resources on both researching new ICOs as well as pre-sale investment. \nHere’s a decent list of [criteria to consider](https://cryptopotato.com/10-keys-evaluating-initial-coin-offering-ico-investments/) when thinking of making an investment in an ICO. \n\n## What type of wallet should I use? ##\nUse a wallet that’s easy to back up and difficult to get access to, depending on your own lifestyle. \n\n__Paper wallet__ - simple to use, very secure, good for long term (you can only withdraw once)\nMobile wallet on an unused smartphone - install a mobile wallet on an old phone you don’t use anymore and you have a poor man’s hardware wallet. \n__Hardware wallet__ - more secure than a phone / desktop app, but isn’t free and if you ask me not really necessary in light of all the other options (though I do own one!) \n__Mobile / Desktop / Browser add-on Wallet__ - simplest to use and most accessible, especially for “early days” of crypto purchases. \n\n_Remember_ - You can always move your crypto assets from one wallet to another with a tap of an index finger! Not entirely sure when the change happened. My last withdrawal from Kraken onto my Revolut account was on May 2nd and it went through quickly and smoothly as always. But then when I went back to top up my fiat balance again this past Monday the 14th, I received the following message from Kraken Engagement Team: >*Your recent withdrawal was on hold because Revolut recently decided to suspend deposits and withdrawals for Kraken accounts. Hence we will fail your withdrawal.* My next attempt was [Cryptopay](https://cryptopay.me/) withdrawal. I've tested them before for bank transfers and had good, quick results. Alas, not 20 minutes after submitting the withdrawal, I received this message from Cryptopay Support: >*I regret to inform you that your withdrawal of ... has been cancelled and refunded. Unfortunately, "Revolut" doesn't accept withdrawals coming from Cryptopay and return them back.* And, just like that - the honeymoon was over. No Bitwala, no TenX, no Xapo... And now no Revolut. While the card does work and the account is active, there's no real use for it to me if I can't fund it through crypto platforms. For the time being the only alternative I can think of is bitcoin ATMs. I'll keep searching for alternatives and updating my findings. Folks, please share in comments if you're familiar with a reliable crypto-to-fiat alternative for European residents without a bank account. Cheers! ♥ |

| body | Smart, shameless, sexy and all sorts of wonderful - here are some of my favorite, groundbreaking female voices in the podcast sphere: *(quotes taken from official podcast descriptions)*
Image Source: [Tim Gouw](https://unsplash.com/photos/AdJTW_dqGhY) on [Unsplash](https://unsplash.com/)
#### Sluts & Scholars

"What do sex and studying have in common? Well personally, we've done a lot of both. The fact is that most people are thinking about sex or having sex, but not talking about it. Whatever your views, we've seen people from all walks of life, from politicians to porn stars, having to deal with judgment about who they are and their level of competence because of their sexual desires and practices." [Listen to Sluts & Scholars](http://slutsscholars.libsyn.com/) ---------- #### Terrible, Thanks for Asking

You know how every day someone asks “how are you?” And even if you’re totally dying inside, you just say “fine,” so everyone can go about their day? This show is the opposite of that. Hosted by author (It's Okay to Laugh (Crying Is Cool Too)) and notable widow (her words) Nora McInerny, this is a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talking honestly about our pain, our awkwardness, and our humanness, which is not an actual word. [Listen to Terrible, Thanks for Asking](https://www.apmpodcasts.org/ttfa/) ---------- #### Guys We Fucked: The Anti Slut Shaming Podcast

A weekly self-produced podcast during which New York City-based stand-up comedians Corinne Fisher & Krystyna Hutchinson interview men they’ve slept with and titans in the comedy and sex industry (i.e.: comedians Jim Norton & Artie Lange, porn star Stoya & sex advice guru Dan Savage), discuss sexual taboos, and create a sex-positive environment for their million plus listeners worldwide. [Listen to Guys We Fucked](https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/blogtalkradio/guys-we-fd) ---------- #### Made of Human

The Made of Human Podcast, also called MohPod, is about connection. I sit down with a lovely person and we talk about life. I want to find out how to cope with being an adult person. I want to find out how to deal with all of the confusing bits of life. All of the hurtful bits of life. I want to sit, for just an hour, with a great person and learn from them. Well personally, we've done a lot of both. The fact is that most people are thinking about sex or having sex, but not talking about it. Whatever your views, we've seen people from all walks of life, from politicians to porn stars, having to deal with judgment about who they are and their level of competence because of their sexual desires and practices.\"\n\n[Listen to Sluts & Scholars](http://slutsscholars.libsyn.com/)\n\n----------\n\n#### Terrible, Thanks for Asking\n\n

\n\nYou know how every day someone asks “how are you?” And even if you’re totally dying inside, you just say “fine,” so everyone can go about their day? This show is the opposite of that. Hosted by author (It's Okay to Laugh (Crying Is Cool Too)) and notable widow (her words) Nora McInerny, this is a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talking honestly about our pain, our awkwardness, and our humanness, which is not an actual word.\n\n[Listen to Terrible, Thanks for Asking](https://www.apmpodcasts.org/ttfa/)\n\n----------\n\n#### Guys We Fucked: The Anti Slut Shaming Podcast\n\n

\n\nA weekly self-produced podcast during which New York City-based stand-up comedians Corinne Fisher & Krystyna Hutchinson interview men they’ve slept with and titans in the comedy and sex industry (i.e.: comedians Jim Norton & Artie Lange, porn star Stoya & sex advice guru Dan Savage), discuss sexual taboos, and create a sex-positive environment for their million plus listeners worldwide. \n\n[Listen to Guys We Fucked](https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/blogtalkradio/guys-we-fd)\n\n----------\n\n#### Made of Human\n\n

\n\nThe Made of Human Podcast, also called MohPod, is about connection. I sit down with a lovely person and we talk about life. I want to find out how to cope with being an adult person. I want to find out how to deal with all of the confusing bits of life. All of the hurtful bits of life. I want to sit, for just an hour, with a great person and learn from them. And - if they have no idea how to 'adult', then that will be absolutely okay - at least we will have an hour of feeling like we're not the only ones in the world.\n\n[Listen to Made of Human](https://www.madeofhumanpodcast.com/episodes/)\n\n----------\n\nHope you find this share helpful and inspiring!
