Chunyun means \"spring transportation\" referring to the annual homecoming period in China when citizens return to their homes to celebrate the new year with the family.\n\nAs of Tuesday (6/2), police can identify seven fugitives related to hit-and-run and human trafficking cases, and 26 cases of fake identities with sophisticated glasses. \"All the captured criminals were identified at four train station entrances,\" said a report on China's railway website Cnrail.net.\n\nThe sophisticated glasses are designed for police use and associated with tablet devices. After scanning the faces of passengers coming to the station, the device activated the software to match faces in the database, and likened it to the faces of the suspects.\n\nThis proved to be effective for the police to arrest suspects or fugitive criminal cases. It appears that the train station became an early police test to determine the effectiveness of such advanced technology.\n\nAround 70,000 to 120,000 people use the station every day. The presence of the technology could make it easier for police personnel to recognize criminals or crime suspects among ordinary citizens passing by in public places. The successful trials at the station are likely to be applied elsewhere in China.\n\nChina is currently building the world's most powerful facial recognition system capable of identifying anyone from its 1.3 billion citizens in just three seconds.
